Definitions
- the invention relates to an exhaust system of a motor vehicle piston engine according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such an exhaust system is known from DE-PS 25 60 475.
- the exhaust gases coming from the engine first flow through a front silencer and then through a larger rear silencer before they reach the outside. Since the exhaust gases flow through the small front silencer in the entire load range of the engine, the exhaust gas back pressure increases as the load increases and the exhaust gas volume flow increases accordingly, which reduces engine output.
- a solution to this problem is achieved with the characterizing features of claim 1. If a bypass pipe is installed parallel to the front silencer, it becomes possible to direct the majority of the exhaust gas directly into the large rear silencer bypassing the front silencer. By suitable dimensioning of the cross section of the exhaust pipe and the volume of the rear silencer it is achieved that even in this operating state of the engine a not too loud, acoustically pleasant engine sound is achieved.
- bypass tube is only opened at vehicle speeds which are higher than 30 km / h.
- exhaust manifolds 4, 5 are connected to its two V-shaped rows of cylinders; a catalyst 6 is installed in each of them.
- the exhaust manifolds unite in the X-piece mixing chamber 7.
- An exhaust pipe 8 is connected to it, which contains a front silencer 9.
- a second mixing chamber 12 the exhaust pipe 8 and the bypass pipe 10 are combined.
- a large rear silencer 13 is connected to the second mixing chamber 12, and after it has flowed through it, the exhaust gases pass through an end pipe 14 into the open.
- the exhaust pipe 8 consists of a front pipe 8a in which the front silencer is seated and a main pipe 8b in which the rear silencer is inserted.
- the front pipe has a diameter of 50 mm
- the bypass pipe has a diameter of 75 mm
- the main pipe has a diameter of 80 mm.
- the diameter ratio of the main pipe to the front pipe is 1.6.
- the volume ratio of the front silencer volume V1 to the rear silencer volume V2 is approximately 1/3.
- the rotary valve 11 is actuated by a vacuum actuator 15 in two-point operation so that it is fully opened from the closed position.
- the vacuum actuator 15 receives its pressure via a solenoid valve 16 which is connected to the air intake 20 of the engine via a vacuum accumulator 17 and a check valve 18 near the throttle valve 19.
- An electrical control unit 21 is used for the electrical control of the solenoid valve 16. It receives a signal for the vehicle speed, which is determined by a wheel sensor 22. Furthermore goes into the control unit 21 the 50% full-load curve, which is determined in a computer 23 from the engine speed determined on the distributor 24 and the position of the throttle valve 19 detected by a throttle valve sensor 25. In accordance with these signals, the control unit opens the solenoid valve 16 if the vehicle speed is also higher than approximately 30 km / h and the engine is operated above the 50% full-load curve.
- the limit value for the engine speed is about 3360 1 / min, the opening angle for the throttle valve 19 is about 26.5 °.
- the housing 26 of the rotary valve 11 is designed so that it can be used in the bypass tube 10 instead of a ball clip sealing and compensation element.
- the outer surfaces 27, 28 of the housing 26 are spherically turned. In the ball clamp encompassing the housing 26, it is then only necessary to make a hole for the valve shaft 29 to pass through.
- the circular valve body 30 of the rotary valve 11 is eccentrically attached to the valve shaft 29.
- the longer, lower part 31 of the valve body 30 weighs heavier than the upper part and offers a higher resistance to the exhaust gas flow 32 which acts on it.
- the valve body 30 is brought into its closed position by its own weight and the flow impulse of the exhaust gas 32.
