Definitions

  • the invention relates to a cross cutter for material webs provided with printed images according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the knife roller has a slot between each pair of parallel knives, into which the waste strip is sucked in and pneumatically discharged through a hollow roller pin.
  • Such a cross cutter has not proven itself in practice because it can easily lead to blockages in the discharge channel.
  • An increase in the cross section of the discharge channel, which reduces the risk of clogging, is countered by the associated reduction in the stability of the knife roller. This applies in particular to the case where the knife roller is equipped with two pairs of parallel knives.
  • the hardened, smooth, synchronous counter-roller is assigned to the cutter block equipped with a pair of parallel cutters. This is studded with protruding needles, which pierce the material web so that the waste strip is held by them and is stripped on the opposite side by stationary teeth of a comb.
  • a device for cutting sheets or webs of material in which the waste pieces resulting from the cutting are held in place by negative pressure and are repelled by the supply of blown air at a point which is displaced and is suitable for removal.
  • the suction and blowing air is supplied and removed via a hollow shaft, hoses and valves.
  • such a device is rejected as unsuitable because of the effort required for this (DE-OS 19 28 966, page 2 below to page 3 above).
  • FR-A-2 392 916 discloses an apparatus for treating cut pieces which are cut out of a continuously running web. Between two axially parallel cylinders, a strip of material is cut out by knife pairs of a knife cylinder. The material strip is then taken over by a cylinder arranged under the knife cylinder. Circumferential openings of this further cylinder can alternately be connected to a source of blown air and a suction air during its rotation, so that the one initially sucked in Material strip is later repelled from the circumference of the other cylinder.
  • the curved surface of the further cylinder serves as the counter surface to the cutting edges of the cutting knives - hence a moving surface, which does not simplify the exact cutting setting in comparison to a stationary counter surface.
  • a further cylinder is also required in order to convey the material strips away from the conveying plane, so that trouble-free web travel is ensured.
  • a knife cylinder which is provided with a pair of knives, works together with a stationary counter knife. The narrow web strip separated by the cut is sucked through an opening into a hollow shaft around which the knife cylinder rotates.
  • the design chosen for this device removes the strips of material through the interior of the cylinder, which creates the risk of a jam that is difficult to clear. If several pairs of knives are arranged on the circumference of the knife cylinder, this principle reaches its limits, since an enormous suction air volume flow has to be generated in order to convey the strips back into the inside of the knife cylinder against the centrifugal force which detects them.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a cross cutter for material webs provided with printed images of the type mentioned, with which the resulting waste strips can be removed without problems with high performance without great expenditure on device technology.
  • the waste strips accumulating between the knives of a pair of knives are safely removed from the processing process even at high outputs, because it is possible by means of the valve control to apply a high vacuum and a high overpressure of the suction and blowing air source to the suction and blowing air openings lay.
  • the switching operations of the valve control with rapid pressure build-up and reduction required for the cross cutter to be used in printing shops can be easily mastered with special training of the valve control. With 30 print images per second, 60 air changes per second are necessary. Assuming 1/3 of a turn for the valve control switchover process, there is a period of a few milliseconds for the pressure build-up and release. With the from the relative movement of knife roller and fixed inlets and outlets of the suction and blown air source derived switchover can meet this requirement safely.
  • the suction hood has blowing air-operated floating nozzles with a conveying effect on the inside.
  • the waste strips can be protected against unintentional detachment by providing support levels set back between the knives and their cutting edges.
  • the knives have a certain shielding function for the waste strips.
  • a material web 1 provided with printed images is fed via a suspension table 2 to a cross cutter which consists of a rotating knife roller 3 with two pairs of parallel knives 4a, 4b and a stationary counter knife 5 with a knife 4c. Between the knives 4a, 4b, a series of suction and blowing openings 9 is arranged, which can be connected alternately to a suction and blowing air source via radial channels 17 in a manner to be described, depending on the rotational position of the knife roller 3.
  • the knife 4a In the position of the knife roller 3 shown in FIG. 1, the knife 4a has just cut a sheet 6 with the printed image from the material web 1 with the knife 4c, which sheet is removed via a floating table 7. A waste strip 8 which is still to be cut is held by the suction and blowing openings 9 which are subjected to negative pressure.
  • the knife 4b cuts off the waste strip 8 together with the knife 4c. This remains attached to the suction and blowing openings 9 until the suction and blowing openings are disconnected from the suction air source and connected to the blowing air source. This happens after at least 1/4 and at most 1/2, in particular 1/3, rotation of the knife roller 3 from the cutting position.
  • a suction hood 12 is arranged above the knife roller 3 and is equipped with a conveying action in the direction of arrow 11, 14 to form blown air nozzles 13 arranged on the inside.
  • the knife roller 3 webs 10 carry the suction and blowing openings 9, which consist of suction cups 9a and holding, axially pierced fastening screws 9b.
  • the axial channel of the fastening screws 9b opens into the channel 17, which in turn opens into an axial groove 16a of a rod 15, which is seated in a central bore in the knife roller 3.
  • two axial grooves 16a, 16b are arranged in the rod 15. They are sealed off from one another by sealing strips which are seated in grooves 18 and acted upon by an elastic hose.
  • connections 27a, 27b are provided at the ends of the two channels 16a, 16b, which abut tightly against a stationary distributor plate 25a, 25b with an inlet 26a and an outlet 26b.
  • the inlets and outlets 26a, 26b are rotatably offset relative to one another in such a way that when the suction and blowing openings 9 are in the cutting position, these with the inlets 26a for suction air (see FIG. 4 below) and the suction and blowing openings 9 which are not in the cutting position with the Outlets 26b for blown air (see FIG. 4 above) are connected.
  • the rotational displacement of the inlets and outlets 26a, 26b is such that, on the one hand, the waste strips are held long enough and, on the other hand, are blown off sufficiently early for removal. This can mean that the inlets and outlets 26a, 26b must not be diametrically opposite.
  • the stationary distributor plates 25a, 25b are screwed to hollow pins 24a, 24b, which in turn are connected to the lines Suction and pressure medium sources are connected.
  • the stationary hollow pins 24a, 24b are mounted by means of bearings 28a, 28b in a hollow bearing pin 3a of the knife roller 3.
  • the pressure required for sealing between the distributor plate 25a and the connections 27a, 27b is applied by a spring 30 which is supported on the one hand on a threaded ring 29 seated in the hollow pin 3a and on the other hand on the axially fixed on the hollow pin 24b in the form of an angular contact ball bearing 28b.
  • a side channel compressor of 100 mbar working pressure can be used for suction and blown air, with a pressure loss of 50% due to resistance.
  • the vacuum of 50 mbar under normal pressure with a total resistance figure of 12.5 is 4 milliseconds for covered and 8 milliseconds for free Suction cups with 2 mm bore used in the fastening screws 10.
  • the knife travel is 40 or 80 mm, corresponding to an angular travel of 22.5 degrees or 45 degrees.
  • the opening and closing of the openings of 12.5 mm diameter with 15 mm eccentric position takes 8 milliseconds with an angular path of 45 degrees each.
  • the time for switching from suction to bubbles is just short enough to ensure trouble-free operation on 1/4 rotation of the cutter roller 3 at 30 sheets per second, which corresponds to a speed of 900 revolutions per minute.
  • a centrifugal force of 180 g acts on a 1 m wide waste strip with a weight of 2 g.
  • the holding force on the suction cups 9a of 10mm inner diameter in 30mm division is 1250g and the repulsive force of the blowing openings 9b of 2mm diameter is 50g.
