Definitions
- the invention relates to a ground connection for the spark plugs of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine for a vehicle, the metallic plug housing of each spark plug having a ground electrode and being screwed into a cylinder head of the engine, and the engine having a vehicle ground and the vehicle ground having a pole of the battery of the vehicle is electrically connected.
- Spark plugs are components of an ignition system for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle.
- Each spark plug consists of a metal center electrode that is embedded in a ceramic insulator. The lower part of the insulator is held by a metallic candle housing, which has a connection thread for screwing the candle into a cylinder head of the engine.
- a second electrode, the ground electrode is welded to the base of the candle. The ground electrode is connected to the vehicle ground via the cylinder head of the engine.
- the ground electrode has a fixed air gap to the center electrode, the electrode gap. High voltage ignition current coming from the distributor flows through the center electrode and bridges the electrode gap as a spark.
- the spark must be strong enough to ignite the fuel mixture. This requires a relatively large electrode gap. However, the greater the electrode spacing, the greater the voltage required to generate the spark.
- the invention has for its object to provide a ground connection, with the help of which the ignition is improved.
- the invention is based on the knowledge that it is not only a question of increasing the voltage. Rather, the invention is characterized in that an additional ground cable is provided for improving the ignition for each spark plug, which is connected to the plug housing of the associated spark plug, and in that the additional ground cables are connected to a common ground cable connected to the negative pole of the battery connected is.
- a significantly more powerful spark is generated.
- the engine starts better than an engine without an additional earth cable. His cold run is better; the engine doesn't buck.
- the engine reaches its operating temperature faster, but does not become too hot. Warming up the engine is calm and powerful.
- the sprint of the vehicle is better, regardless of whether the engine is still cold or already warm.
- the performance of the engine on the mountain is very good.
- the fuel consumption is lower. - -.
- the more powerful spark leads to fewer misfires.
- the combustion of the fuel is cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
- the spark plugs also stay cleaner. After all, the combustion chamber - pistons and valves - is cleaner.
- the optimal setting of the engine with the help of the additional earth cable leads to results that are also remarkable for the special exhaust gas examination.
- the electrical circuit of a motor vehicle is fed from a battery 1.
- the positive pole 12 of this battery 1 is connected to an ignition distributor via an ignition lock and an ignition coil (not shown).
- One of - in the exemplary embodiment - four spark plugs 31 to 34 of the ignition current is supplied via the ignition distributor with the aid of lines 21 to 24.
- the extended line 21 supplies the spark plug 31 with the ignition current.
- the lines 22 to 24, which lead to the spark plugs 32 to 34, are de-energized. They carry the ignition current cyclically when the distributor is turned.
- the negative pole 13 of the battery 1 is connected to the vehicle ground 5, usually to the vehicle body. All other electrical devices of the motor vehicle are also connected to the vehicle ground 5.
- a ground cable 4 also extends from the negative pole 13 of the battery 1. Secondary cables 41 to 44 are connected to this additional ground cable 4, each of which is connected to one of the spark plugs 31 to 34.
- Each spark plug 31 to 34 consists of a center electrode 61 which is embedded in a ceramic insulator 62.
- the lower part of the ceramic insulator 62 is received by a metallic candle housing 63.
- the metallic plug housing 63 has a connection thread 64 for screwing the spark plug into a cylinder head 71 of an engine 7.
- a second electrode, the ground electrode 66, is welded to the plug base 65. It is connected to the vehicle mass 5 via the cylinder head 71.
- the ground cable 4 which is fastened to the negative pole 13 of the battery 1 on the one hand, is fastened to the candle housing 63 via its auxiliary cable 41.
- a hole is drilled in the candle housing 63 in the axial direction, into which the free end of the secondary cable 41 is inserted and welded.
- Other types of attachment of the earth cable 4 to the spark plugs 31 to 34 are possible.
- a ring can be attached to the ground cable 4, 41, which is placed around the candle housing 63.
- a clamping shoe can also be attached, which with the plug housing 63 is screwed.
- Other types of attachment of the earth cable more precisely the ends of the auxiliary cables 41 to 44 with the spark plugs 31 to 34, are possible.
- the invention can be used commercially for all spark plugs that are components of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine for a vehicle.

Abstract
Description
- Figur 1
- ein schematisches Schaltbild;
- Figur 2
