On leaving the machine, the skins are removed manually to be stored properly on a mechanical stacker.

- the skins are dried directly in the open air, but this solution involves immobilizing the articles for an extended period of time.
- the fact that the two pressing drums are mounted on two structures which can be moved apart or brought closer depending on the working phases is such as to determine a very clear limitation of the pressure that the two drums can exert on the skin to be treated, and, in the final analysis, a limitation of the percentage of liquid which can be eliminated during this phase. It follows that most of the liquid must be removed during the second phase of the process; so that the latter does not have unacceptable durations, it is necessary to operate at the relatively high temperatures mentioned above, which inevitably implies a certain reduction in the quality of the skins.
- the present invention proposes to implement a method of stretching and drying the skins at their exit from the dyeing operation which is free from the drawbacks mentioned above.
- the pressing phase is carried out using a device operating continuously and comprising means for the continuous supply of the skins between the two pressing drums; around the drum or drums provided at at least one of the faces of the skin to be pressed is mounted a movable mat which constitutes the element which will effectively bring the skins into contact, it being noted that another mat can be mounted around the rollers provided on the oppo side the skin to be pressed.
- Such a structure is capable of giving surprising results as regards the quantity of liquid which can be wrung during the phase in which the said structure is involved, the said quantity possibly reaching up to 70%.
- the presence of the carpets is likely to increase the surface which performs the pressing, which surface in the case of the device implementing the usual process is very small since it extends only at the level of the zone. of contact between the skins and the pressing drums.
- the device according to the invention comprising at least one drum with prior stretching blades of the type described above, and also taking into account the greater pressure that the pressing drums can exert on the skins, the latter tend to increase their surface considerably, which constitutes a notable advantage for producers of skins since, as is known, skins are usually sold by unit of surface and not by unit of weight.

- the drums are not directly brought into contact with the skins, but on the contrary between said drums and the skins is interposed a mat 7 preferably made of felt and whose movement is ensured by the aforementioned drums, also wrapping around return cylinders 8.
