Definitions
- the invention relates to a plastic oil pan according to the preamble of claims 1 and 6.
- a metallic threaded insert in a plastic wall is known, DE-PS 32 46 768, in which an elastic sealing ring is provided for sealing between the threaded insert and the plastic wall.
- the latter is arranged in a groove.
- the object of the invention is to take such measures on an oil drain plug for a plastic oil pan of an internal combustion engine that it is secured against undesired oil leakage.
- the main advantages achieved with the invention are the fact that the radial seal between the screw and the recess is highly effective, i.e. that no oil allows oil to pass through when screwed in, and any leakage that occurs between the oil pan and the threaded insert is accepted.
- a good sealing function can be achieved by one, possibly also several O-rings connected in series, which can be inserted in the groove of the receiving section in a simple manner.
- compliance with manufacturing tolerances is straightforward in this embodiment.
- a plastic oil pan 1 comprises an upright wall 2 and a horizontal wall 3.
- 4 denotes a local thickening, which is provided in the transition area between wall 2 and wall 3.
- the thickening which protrudes beyond both sides of the wall 2 - W1 and W2 - serves to accommodate a threaded insert 5 into which an oil drain plug 6 is screwed; the latter two are made of metal.
- Threaded insert 5 embedded without an additional seal has a circular cylindrical basic shape and is provided with a polygonal anti-rotation device 7 which projects beyond the outer diameter D1 of the threaded insert 5.
- the thickening 4 has on the side facing away from an interior 8 of the oil pan 1 a circular cylindrical recess 9; it is similar to a hole. It is also possible to provide the recess as a cone with an opening inclination ⁇ .
- a radial seal 10 which interacts on the one hand with the recess 9 - D2 - and on the other hand with a useful pin section 11 - D3 - for the radial seal 10 on the oil drain screw 6.
- the oil drain plug 6 extends in sections within the recess.
- a shoulder 12 of the oil drain screw 6 is axially clamped against the threaded insert 5, the threaded insert 5 projecting slightly by an amount A relative to a boundary 13 of the recess 9 running parallel to the shoulder 12.
- the radial seal 10 is an O-ring made of resilient material, several O-rings can also be connected in series in the axial direction, which is inserted into a groove 14 in the oil drain plug 6.
- the outer diameter D4 of the groove 14 is slightly smaller than the inner diameter D2 of the recess 9.
- the oil drain screw 6 is screwed with a threaded pin 15 into a threaded bore 16 of the threaded insert 5, a screw head 17 serving to actuate the oil drain screw 6.
- the threaded insert 5 opens on the side facing away from the interior 8 into a space 18 of the thickening 4, which is sealed off from the outside 19 of the oil pan 1 with the radial seal 10.
- the radial seal 10 interacts both with the oil drain screw 6 - more precisely with the useful pin section 11 - and with the cylindrical recess 9.

Abstract
