Description

The present invention relates to a coupling articulation of two railway vehicles resting on a median bogie, with elastic support members.

The current coupling joints on median bogie include a sole linked to one of the vehicles, supported on the median bogie by springs, and carrying by means of elastomeric bodies a ball joint on the upper surface of which comes s '' support a spherical seat linked to the other vehicle. These joints include spherical surfaces requiring a lot of machining. They are expensive and relatively heavy.

Document CA-A-1218900 describes a coupling articulation of median bogie wagons, in which the ends of the bodies of the two vehicles are pivotally mounted on the axis of a cylindrical-conical connecting piece, connected by the intermediate of an annular elastomer part to a bogie bowl. This articulation does not allow one of its elements to form an angle with the vertical axis, in order to ensure the heeling of a vehicle with respect to the other when entering and exiting sections of track on a slope and during passages of hollows or bumps.

The object of the present invention is to provide a joint of a low and relatively light cost price, which moreover provides the required functions, even in the case of high-speed trains. It must allow on the one hand the rotation of the parts between them to ensure the passage on the curved tracks and on the other hand that one of its elements forms an angle with the vertical axis to ensure the heeling of a vehicle compared to each other. It must, in addition to the traction and braking forces in normal service, respond to the forces due to exceptional shocks within determined limits. The lifting of the middle bogie must be made possible by leaning under the vehicles during the re-ening operations. Coupling and uncoupling must be able to be carried out quickly.

The subject of the invention is therefore a coupling articulation of two railway vehicles resting on a median bogie between two vehicles, comprising an O-ring part connected to one of the vehicles, of frustoconical surface in its lower zone and cylindrical in its upper zone , comprising a cylindrical bore in its center, a support part connected to the other vehicle enveloping the toric part by means of a sole located at a level lower than that of the toric part, a cylindrical axis being fixed on the sole and engaged in the cylindrical bore of the toric part, this axis being of smaller diameter than said bore, a toric articulation element comprising metal plates sandwiched between layers of elastic material ensuring the articulation between the sole and the toric part , the articulation element being fixed on the sole, characterized in that the latter comprises a frustoconical plate co nstituating a bearing surface on the frustoconical part of the toric part, the cylindrical axis ending in a horizontal circular shoulder facing a horizontal circular shoulder situated around the top of the cylindrical bore of the toric part, the support part comprising in its upper part an internal cylindrical part facing the external cylindrical surface of the upper zone of the toric part.

It also preferably meets at least one of the following characteristics:
  • - The metal plates and the layers of elastic material of the toric articulation element are in the form of a spherical sector.
  • - The layers of elastic material can be hollowed out (cells) so as to obtain different stiffnesses of the articulation element in the radial directions (longitudinal and transverse).
  • - The O-ring piece is provided under a lower flat face external to the O-ring articulation element of the safety lug support part entering into opposite forks integral with this O-ring articulation element.
  • - The toric articulation element is attached to the sole by means of a support piece connected to the sole by a locking member.
  • - The angle with the vertical of the frustoconical external surfaces of the toric part and of the toric articulation element, as well as the clearance between the cylindrical bore of the toric part and the cylindrical axis of the support part, are such that they allow coupling of the toric piece and the support piece even when the toric piece is presented opposite the support piece with a large offset.

  • FIG. 1 represents an articulation in section through a longitudinal plane of symmetry, the surfaces coming into contact with the O-ring part and with the O-ring articulation element of the support part being of frustoconical shape.

In FIG. 1, the articulation comprises a central toric part 1, connected to the body of one of the vehicles, having a frustoconical bearing surface 2 on the toric articulation element made of elastic composite material 13. Its part upper has a cylindrical outer surface 3, facing the cylindrical outer surface 20 of the sole 9 secured to the body of the adjacent vehicle, but spaced therefrom.

The O-ring is pierced with an axial bore 4, with a recess in its central zone 5. In the central zone of its upper part, a circular shoulder 6 is provided with elastomer elements 7 supporting a circular steel crown 8 of polished upper surface.

The sole 9 connected to the body of the adjacent vehicle, composed of several elements welded together, has a vertical cylindrical rim 10 to which is fixed by bolts such as 11 a circular piece of triangular cross section 12 supporting the toric articulation element composite 13. This is composed of metal plates 14 sandwiched between layers of elastic material 15. A frustoconical plate 16 constitutes the bearing surface of the periphery of the lower part of the toric part 1. This articulation element can be in one piece, or in two or three parts.

La partie supérieure de cet axe forme un chapeau circulaire 18 présentant une surface inférieure plane 18A, venant en regard de la couronne circulaire en métal dur poli 8 de la pièce torique 1.On the center of the sole 9 is fixed by means of a thread 19 a vertical axis 17, coming to engage in the bore 4 of the O-piece 1, leaving a significant clearance with this bore. This play is sufficient so that the periphery of the axis does not come into contact with the bore during normal longitudinal movements during periods of traction or braking, and can only do so during exceptional impacts. The upper part of this axis forms a circular cap 18 having a flat lower surface 18A, facing the circular crown of polished hard metal 8 of the O-ring 1.

Safety lugs 21, integral with the central toric part 1, engage in forks 22 integral with the toric element 13, so as to avoid any sliding between this part and the toric element, in particular during passages in curve of small radius, while allowing their relative rotation.

In the variant shown in FIG. 2, the layers of elastic material 34 and the metal plates 35 of the toric articulation element 33 are in the form of a spherical sector, as is the bearing face of the support piece 31. The contact surface 32 with the central toric part (not shown) is frustoconical.

Figure 3 shows the end of the body of one of the vehicles, with the corresponding median bogie and the joint support part. The end 40 of the body is carried by the median bogie 41, supported by the wheels such as 42, 43, only one of the axles 46 being visible. The axles are connected by the side members 44, 45, joined by crosspieces such as 47, and supporting the air suspensions 58, 59. The support piece of the joint 48 is supported by oblique arms 49 connected to the end face of the box.

The O-ring part 51, with an extreme cylindrical periphery 53, is carried by the beams 54, 55 connected to the end face of the body, and by the oblique arms 56, 57. During the coupling, it will fit into the support piece 48 of the adjacent box (fig. 3).
