Definitions

  • the present invention relates to lugs intended to enclose the terminals of accumulator batteries.
  • These lugs can be made of flexible elastic material, the elasticity ensuring tightening on the terminal. Given the need for an effective connection between the elements, the elastic characteristics of the conductive material used must be such that a very high pinch or tightening is obtained; it then becomes impossible to remove the terminal without using appropriate tools, which makes the device impractical.
  • terminals fixed with screws on the battery terminals.
  • a screw-nut system can then be used laterally, to connect the two jaws of the terminals. The screwing brings these jaws together and tightens around the terminal.
  • Another solution is to provide the top of the terminal with a threaded rod.
  • the terminal made up of a metal ring, is embedded in the rod and an insulating cap, comprising an orifice also threaded, is screwed on the rod of the terminal so as to wedge the terminal.
  • a removable battery terminal without the use of tools is, for example, known from DE-A-3 403 400.
  • This terminal consists of two articulated half-clamps between which a spring acts permanently. One of the half-clamps is extended by an operating arm.
  • the object of the invention is a battery terminal, which can be quickly removed without the use of any tools.
  • This new terminal can be mounted on any standard battery. It allows very quick and easy assembly and disassembly interventions ensuring on the one hand the rapid isolation of the vehicle's electrical circuit in the event of a mass or accident and thus avoiding vehicle fire and allowing on the other hand easy cleaning and proper loading of the drums.
  • the clamping system used ensures flexible, but nevertheless very effective, contact between the terminal and the terminal.
  • the terminal for an accumulator battery comprises two articulated jaws enclosing the terminal and extended by two operating arms between which an elastic member acts permanently. These two jaws are articulated at one of their ends and extended, at their other end, by the two operating arms which intersect.
  • the terminal is intended to be placed between the articulation of the two jaws and the crossing of the operating arms.
  • one of the lateral branches of the operating arms is provided with a clamp system intended for the connection of a connecting wire.
  • the clamp is produced by the lateral branch of the arm and a movable plate interposed between the lateral branch and the elastic member.
  • the movable plate comprises at least one orifice and the lateral branch at least one rod, intended to be fitted into the orifice, so as to guide the movable platen in translation.
  • the arm and the movable plate comprise housings intended to receive the connection wire; the spring-shaped elastic member is held in place by embedding each of its ends in a circular boss with a diameter slightly smaller than that of the spring.
  • the terminal 1 of the accumulator battery shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 comprises two base plates 2 and 3, made of cast and molded conductive metal and by machining the large parts, to obtain the general framework of the device.
  • These base plates 2 and 3 each have a part in the shape of a semicircle 21 and 31.
  • the part 31 in the form of a semicircle, of the base plate 3, comprises, at its front end, a cylinder 33 in the form of a tube, having a width a substantially equal to half the width b of the base plates 2 and 3.
  • This cylinder 33 is placed in the middle of the end of the part 31.
  • This part 31 is extended by an operating arm 32 in the form of a square.
  • the part 21 in the form of a semicircle, of the base plate 2 comprises, at its front end, two cylinders 23 a and 23 b . These two cylinders 23 a and 23 b are arranged laterally at the front end of the part 21 in the form of a semicircle; they have a width c substantially equal to a quarter of the width b of the base plates 2 and 3.
  • the parts 33, 23a and 23b are complementary and can be produced by molding and then machining the large parts.
  • the rear end of the part 21 is extended by an operating arm 22 in the form of a square.
  • each part 21 and 31 in the form of a semicircle comprises a boss 25, 26 of thickness 1.5 mm, width 3 mm and of convex shape.
  • Each plate 2 and 3 has a central recess 24, 34, starting approximately from the angle of the arms 22 and 32 in the form of a square and going until approximately the beginning of the parts 21 and 31 in the form of a semicircle.
  • These recesses 24 and 34 have a depth substantially equivalent to half the width b of the plates 2 and 3 and are made on these plates, so as to allow their intersection, to obtain the assembly as shown in the figures.
  • the plates 2 and 3 are introduced into each other via the recesses 24 and 34, to obtain a device of thickness b .
  • the assembly of these two plates 2 and 3 constitutes the general framework of the terminal 1.
  • the operating arms 22 and 32 are situated respectively on the same side as the jaws 31 and 21.
  • the recesses 24 and 34 are such that they allow a certain freedom of movement of the plates 2 and 3 between them.
  • the internal surface of the parts 21 and 31 is provided with a fine protruding bulge 27 visible in FIG. 4.
  • This projection 27 extends, after assembly, over the entire inner and lower diameter of the conical orifice 4, at the level of the most big surface.
  • this protruding part When mounting the terminal on the terminal, this protruding part enters the lead of the battery terminal, thus avoiding any risk of sliding from bottom to top.
  • the meeting of the operating arms 22 and 32 has a U shape, seen from the front, the lateral branches 221 and 321 of the U extending parallel backwards.
  • the operating arms 22 and 32 are covered with an insulating plastic film.
  • This rivet 6 will be matted at its ends while leaving free the movement of articulation.
  • the orifice 4 In the equilibrium position, the orifice 4 has a surface less than the surface of occupation of the battery terminal.
  • FIGS. 1 and 3 that the elastic member 7 acts on the lateral branch 221 by means of a plate 8.
  • This plate 8 is mobile and has two orifices 81.
  • Two rods 9 extend from the lateral branch 221 and come to be embedded in these orifices 81 to guide the plate 8 in translation.
  • connection wire 10 The branch 221 and the plate 8 are clamped against one another by the spring 7 and these two parts are intended to pinch a connection wire 10.
  • the branch 221 and the plate 8 for this purpose have housings 11 intended to hold the wire 10 in place.
  • the spring 7 bears on the internal sides of the lateral branch 321 and of the plate 8 and ensures, on the one hand the spacing of the lateral branches 221 and 321 and on the other hand the nipping of the wire between the plate 8 and branch 221.
  • the internal sides of the plate 8 and of the lateral branch 321 are each provided with a circular boss 71, 72 with a thickness of approximately 1.5 mm and a diameter slightly smaller than that of spring 7, which will fit there.
  • the elastic member is in the form of a helical spring. Any other form or elastic means may nevertheless be used in a completely equivalent manner.
  • the exemplary embodiment described proposes guiding in translation of the mobile part, by means of two rods extending from the lateral branch. It is obvious that the number of these rods may vary and that for example a single rod, associated with an orifice on the plate 8, will be sufficient to provide this guidance.
  • the shape of the jaws will be adapted to the shape of the terminal. This can be cylindrical or polygonal and in this case, the jaws will have a complementary shape to ensure maximum contact between the two elements.
