- the invention relates to a dampening unit for an offset printing machine with a pair of rollers, consisting of an applicator roller for applying dampening solution to a plate cylinder and a metering roller, a first contact zone formed by mutual pressing of the metering roller and the application roller along axially parallel surface lines of the roller pair in contact, with a gear mechanism for driving the pair of rollers with the circumferential speeds of the metering roller and the application roller essentially pointing downward in the region of the first contact zone and with a reservoir for dampening solution formed above the first contact zone and formed by the lateral surfaces of the pair of rollers and sealing means at its ends .
- Such a dampening system is known from DE-OS 22 06 498.
- the applicator roller for the dampening solution is driven via a gear connected to it by a gear meshing with it and connected to the plate cylinder.
