Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a cross-country ski comprising a longitudinal rib projecting from its upper face.
  • Cross-country skis which have a longitudinal rib on their upper face (FR-A-2 572 944).
  • This longitudinal rib generally has a trapezoidal cross section, in other words it is delimited by a horizontal upper face and two inclined lateral faces, and this rib with trapezoidal cross section is connected to the lower part of the ski which has a rectangular cross section, of small height, whose short sides constitute the edges of the ski. Due to the reduced height of these edges, such a cross-country ski slides more easily over the snow.
  • the upper longitudinal rib contributes to the lateral guiding of the boot mounted on the cross-country ski which is adapted for this purpose thanks to the provision, in its sole, of a groove having in cross section a shape complementary to that of the rib. ski.
  • the present invention relates to improvements made to such cross-country skiing with the aim of easily adapting its rigidity or its elastic response and improving its technique, without notably increasing its weight.
  • this cross-country ski comprising a longitudinal rib at its upper part is characterized in that it comprises on each side of the longitudinal guide rib and at least in the area where a boot is supported on the ski, an auxiliary profile. attached attached attached to the lateral face of the longitudinal guide rib and of height less than this rib, this auxiliary auxiliary profile having a horizontal upper surface on which the sole of the shoe is supported.
  • auxiliary profiles allow, thanks to a judicious choice of their material and their shape, to easily modify the characteristics of a cross-country ski with a longitudinal guide rib, with regard in particular to its flexibility and its response to stresses.
  • FIG. 1 and 2 a cross-country ski 1 which has, at its upper part, a longitudinal guide rib 2 with a trapezoidal cross section.
  • This trapezoidal cross section is not, however, limiting and it could have any other suitable shape, in particular polygonal or curved.
  • the cross section of the rib 2 is formed by the superposition of two sections elementary isosceles trapezoid shape.
  • the guide rib 2 thus has a horizontal upper face 2a constituting the small base of the upper trapezoidal section which is extended by two inclined lateral faces 2b, 2c.
  • This upper trapezoidal section is connected to a lower trapezoidal section whose small upper base corresponds to the large base of the upper trapezoidal section.
  • the lower trapezoidal section comprises two lower inclined side walls 2d, 2e which are less inclined than the upper inclined side walls 2b, 2c.
  • the two lower inclined side walls 2d, 2e are connected to the vertical edges 1a, 1b, of low height, of the ski 1 which extend to the sole 3 of this ski.
  • the cross-country ski 1 is provided, on each side of the longitudinal guide rib 2, with an attached auxiliary profile 4 which is rigid in the case of the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • This profile is fixed to the inclined lateral faces 2d, 2c of the rib 2 by any suitable means, for example by gluing.
  • the profile 4 has a cross section in the shape of a right triangle and it includes a horizontal upper face 4a, a vertical external face 4b and an inclined internal face 4c corresponding to the hypotenuse of the right triangle.
  • the triangular cross section of the added auxiliary profile 4 is such that its vertical external face 4b is located in the plane of the edge 1a, 1b of the ski, that its inclined internal face 4c is applied to one of the lower inclined faces 2d, 2e of the rib 2 and that its upper horizontal face 4a is situated in the horizontal plane constituting the plane of separation of the two trapezoidal sections of the rib 2.
  • the rigid auxiliary auxiliary profile 4 can be full as shown in the left part of Figure 2 or hollow as shown in the right part of this figure, provided that in the latter case the wall of the profile is sufficiently thick to provide the desired rigidity.
  • the forecast on both sides of the guide rib 2, of rigid attached auxiliary sections 4 makes it possible to modify at will the overall characteristic of rigidity or elasticity of the cross-country ski 1, according to the wishes.
  • FIG. 2 also shows the sole 5 of a ski boot which is provided, in its lower face, with a longitudinal groove 6 which covers the guide rib 2.
  • This sole 5 is supported on the upper horizontal faces 4a of the profiles rigid attached auxiliaries 4 and the bottom of the groove 6 is located a little above the upper face 2a of the rib 2, because the depth p of this groove 6 is slightly greater than the height h of the upper trapezoidal section 2a, 2b, 2c of the rib 2.
  • the cross-country ski 1 carries, on each side of the longitudinal guide rib 2, an attached auxiliary profile 7 made of flexible and elastic material, for example rubber . Consequently when the skier exerts a strong pressure on his ski, at the time of the support on the ground, the elastic material of each added auxiliary profile 7 is compressed by the sole 5 of the ski boot, as is represented in FIG. 4
  • This compression is made possible because the depth p of the groove 6 of the sole 5 is greater than the height h of the upper trapezoidal section 2a, 2b, 2c, of the rib 2, so that the sole 6 can s lower with respect to this rib, by compressing the two added auxiliary sections 7.
  • This compression therefore results, when the skier releases his pressure on the ski at the start of the advance travel of this ski, by an elastic return of profile material 7 in the relaxed state which thus contributes to the action of the skier's foot.
  • the longitudinal guide rib 2 has a cross section having the shape of a single isosceles trapezoid.
  • the inclined lateral faces 2b, 2c extend downwards, with the same slope, up to low distance from the sole 3, and they are, at this point, connected to horizontal wings 2f, 2g of small width, which extend outwards to the edges 1a, 1b.
  • each added auxiliary profile 8 has a cross section in the shape of a rectangular trapezoid defined by a horizontal upper face 8a, a vertical external face 8b located in the vertical plane of the edge 1a, 1b, a horizontal lower face 8c in contact with the 'lower horizontal wing 2f, 2g and of the same width as the latter, and an inclined internal face 8d, of the same inclination as the inclined lateral faces 2b, 2c of the rib 2, and in contact with the lower part of these faces.
  • Each profile 8 is shown as being rigid in FIG. 5 and it can be either full (left part of FIG. 5) or hollow (right part of FIG. 5).
  • Figures 6 and 7 show an alternative embodiment in which the added auxiliary profiles 9 have the same trapezoidal cross section as the profiles 8 but are made of a flexible and elastic material, which allows their compression by the sole 5 of the shoe as shown in Figure 7.
  • the cross-country ski comprises two added auxiliary profiles 11, 12 of trapezoidal cross section, which are arranged on either side of the longitudinal guide rib and are connected to one another.
  • the two added auxiliary profiles 11, 12 constitute the extreme lateral parts of a single profile which comprises an upper central part 13 of trapezoidal shape, flared downwards, which covers the upper part of an internal profile 14 also of trapezoidal cross section, flared downwards and connecting to the sole 3 of the ski.
  • the two lateral sections 11, 12 respectively comprise upper horizontal faces 11a, 12a, which are connected to external vertical faces 11b, 12b constituting the edges of the ski and which end in lower horizontal wings 11c, 12c extending towards the inside.
  • the central trapezoidal part upper 13 comprises, for its part, an upper horizontal face 13a and two inclined lateral faces 13b, 13c which are respectively connected to the upper horizontal faces 11a, 12a of the two lateral profiles 11, 12.
  • the internal profile 14 of trapezoidal cross section comprises an upper horizontal face 14a on which is pressed the upper horizontal face 13a of the upper trapezoidal central part 13, and two inclined lateral faces 14b, 14c on the upper parts of which the inclined lateral faces are pressed 13b, 13c of the trapezoidal upper central part 13.
  • These lateral inclined faces 14b, 14c end, at their lower ends, by wings 14d, 14e, extending outwards and on which the internal lower wings 11c are pressed.
  • the volumes delimited inside the ski can be left empty or on the contrary they can be filled with a rigid but light material such as a foam.
  • FIGS. 9 and 10 illustrate how an elastic added auxiliary profile, such as profile 7, gives way and reacts when a ski boot 15, which is articulated, relative to the cross-country ski 1, about a horizontal axis and transverse 16, pivots about this axis, by lifting the heel when pressing on the ski for advancing the other ski. It can be seen, in FIGS. 9 and 10, that the end 5a of the sole 5 penetrates slightly into the elastic added auxiliary profile 7, during the pivoting of the shoe 15 in an anti-clockwise direction around the axis 16, and that the elastic deformation of the profile 7 results in a return force f tending to bring the boot 15 back to the horizontal position on the ski.
  • the front part 5a of the sole 5 of the shoe is in abutment against an inclined face of a raised part 7a of the elastic added auxiliary profile 7. From this makes the pivoting movement of the shoe 15, anticlockwise shows around the transverse axis 16, results in the depression, by the end of the sole 5a, of the inclined face of the elastic raised part 7a which forms a slight bead 17, strongly exaggerated in FIG. 12, projecting relative to the upper surface, this bead 17 contributing to the elastic return of the boot flat on the ski.
  • the added auxiliary profile can extend only under the boot 15 (FIG. 13) or over practically the entire length of the cross-country ski 1 ( Figure 14) or only over part of this length.
  • the two added auxiliary sections situated respectively on the two sides of the longitudinal guide rib 2 can be of the same type or possibly of different types, for example rigid on one side of the rib 2 and flexible and elastic on the other.
