  • a gear pump 57 pressurises a line 58 which is supplied to thee sub-frame wheel motor 52 and to the hydraulic rams 40. The supply of this fluid is controlled by a two-position valve 59. Each of the pumps 53 and 57 is driven by the engine 44.
  • the valves 55 and 59 are controlled by an electrical control 62. This is also fed by a tachometer 60 which detects the forward movement of the machine 10 in the first direction 17. By making the separation between the grooving heads 13 the same width as the grooving heads, the span is a multiple of the separation distance. Thus if the tachometer is arranged to produce an output every separation distance, say 200 millimetres, then the control circuit counts the first of these and brakes the machine by using the dump valve 63 to dump the fluid from the motors 47 and 48 to tank 64 as described above. The lateral grooving movement of the machine then takes place and after that the machine 10 is advanced until another nine outputs from the tachometer have been recorded. The machine is then stopped again and the cycle is repeated.
  • the above machine is virtually fully automatic in operation and only requires a single operator to steer the forward movement in the first direction 17. It is therefore very cheap on manpower and because of the large number of heads operates relatively quickly.
  • the machine can be constructed in many different ways provided that it is capable of controlled forward movement in the first direction and intermediate lateral grooving movement.
  • the grooving wheels 31 on the sub-frame 12 rotate in the opposite direction to those on the other sub-frame. This arrangement counters a tendency of the grooving wheels to run away and removes the necessity to provide heavy braking capabilities.

Abstract

Machine (10) pour traiter une surface (15) de route, et en particulier, mais non exclusivement, machine (10) pour créér des rainures latérales dans de telles surfaces (15). La machine (10) comporte essentiellement un châssis principal (11) équipé de roues, sur lequel sont montés deux châssis secondaires latéraux (12) équipés de roues et qui porte des têtes de travail (13). Lesdites têtes (13) peuvent être soulevées pour permettre de déplacer la machine (10) dans le sens longitudinal (17), et ensuite abaissées sur les roues (14) des châssis secondaires (12) afin d'effectuer le mouvement de rainurage (18).

Claims (17)

1. Machine (10) pour traiter un revêtement routier ou une surface similaire, comportant un bâti ou un châssis principal (11), une tête de traitement (13) montée sur le châssis, des premiers moyens (16) pour déplacer le châssis dans une première direction (17), la tête de traitement (13) étant relevée par rapport au revêtement, et des moyens (40) pour mettre la tête de traitement en contact avec le revêtement, caractérisée en ce que la machine comporte égalament des seconds moyens (14, 41) pour déplacer le châssis (11) dans une seconde direction (18), d'une manière générale transversale, la tête de traitement (13) agissant sur le revêtement routier et les premiers moyens (16) étant relevés par rapport à celui-ci.
2. Machine selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle le châssis principal (11) est monté sur roues en vue d'un déplacement dans la première direction et comporte également un sous-châssis sur roues (12) qui est monté sur le châssis principal (11) en vue d'un déplacement dans la seconde direction (18) et porte la tête de traitement (13), des moyens de levage (39, 40) destinés à relever et à abaisser l'une des séries de roues de façon que la machine puisse être déplacée, au choix, dans la première direction (17) ou dans la seconde direction (18).
3. Machine selon la revendication 2, dans laquelle les moyens de levage (39, 40) relèvent et abaissent les roues (14) du sous-châssis.
4. Machine selon la revendication 3, dans laquelle les moyens de levage (39, 40) relèvent et abaissent la tête de traitement (13) en même temps que les roues (14) du sous-châssis de façon que la tête de traitement (13) ne soit en contact avec le revêtement que lorsque les roues (14) du sous-châssis le sont.
5. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications 2 et 4, dans laquelle il est prévu plusieurs têtes de traitement (13) montées côte à côte sur le sous-châssis (12).
6. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications 2 à 5, dans laquelle une tête de traitement (13) est montée pivotante sur le sous-châssis (12).
7. Machine selon la revendication 6, dans laquelle des moyens pour relever et abaisser la tête de traitement comportent un organe (41) qui s'étend entre les roues (14) du sous-châssis pour venir en prise avec la tête (13) ou avec un prolongement (38) de celle-ci de telle façon que, lorsque les roues (14) du sous-châssis se relèvent, la tête de traitement (13) se relève aussi.
8. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans laquelle la tête de traitement (13) est formée par une tête à rainurer.
9. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications 2 à 8, comportant également des moyens de pulvérisation (61) destinés à pulvériser de l'eau sur le revêtement de la route en train d'être traitée.
10. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications 2 à 9, dans laquelle il est prévu deux sous-châssis (12) disposés côte à côte qui portent une série de roues (14) et une série de têtes de traitement (13), les têtes de traitement (13) montées sur l'un des sous-châssis (12) étant alignées avec celles montées sur l'autre sous-châssis (12), dans la seconde direction (18).
11. Machine selon la revendication 10, comportant également des moyens ajustables (27, 28, 29) destinés à modifier la position des sous-châssis (12) le long de la seconde direction (18), par rapport au châssis principal (11).
12. Machine selon la revendication 11, dans laquelle les moyens ajustables (27, 29, 29) sont conçus pour modifier l'écartement des deux sous-châssis (12).
13. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications 2 à 12, comportant des moyens de commande (62) pour actionner la machine selon le cycle suivant qui consiste à:
(i) déplacer la machine (10) vers l'avant le long de la première direction de déplacement (17) sur les roues (16) du châssis principal,
(ii) mettre les roues (14) du sous-châssis en contact avec le revêtement routier et relever par rapport à celui-ci les roues (16) du châssis prinicpal,
(iii) conduire la machine (10) et par conséquent la tête de traitement (13) dans la seconde direction (18),
(iv) relever les roues (14) du sous-châssis et
(v) abaisser les roues (16) du châssis principal pour faire avancer la machine dans la première direction (17).
14. Machine selon la revendication 13, dans laquelle les déplacements dans la première direction correspondent alternativement à une première distance et à une seconde distance, la première distance étant égale à l'écartement des têtes de traitement montées sur les sous-châssis, tandis que la seconde est égale à l'étendue totale des têtes mesurée dans la première direction.
15. Machine selon l'une quelconque des revendications 2 à 14, dans laquelle les roues (16) du châssis principal sont entraînées hydrauliquement.
16. Machine selon la revendication 15, comportant également une soupape d'évacuation actionnée automatiquement (63) destinée à ramener le fluide hydraulique à un réservoir (64), lorsque la distance requise a été parcourue.
17. Machine selon la revendication 16, comportant également des freins à sécurité intrinsèque destinés à freiner les roues principales (16) à chaque fois que le fluide hydraulique est évacué.
