Definitions

  • the invention relates to a foldable wheelchair with a frame which has two mutually mirror-image frame side parts and a connecting linkage connecting them, a drive wheel and a follower wheel being mounted on each frame side part and the linkage having essentially horizontal joints with which it connects with the frame side parts is connected to a rigid seat plate, which consists of two seat plate parts, the frame side parts being articulated to the seat plate parts by means of upper side joints, and to each frame side part furthermore at least one telescopic rod, each articulated at its lower end by means of a lower side joint on the frame side parts is connected and the upper end of which is articulated to a seat plate part, and with at least one tension element tensioned in the unfolded state of the wheelchair below the level of the seat plate.
  • Collapsible wheelchairs should be able to be folded and unfolded as comfortably as possible. Only then is it possible for a disabled user to fold the wheelchair themselves after getting into a passenger car and to stow and unfold before disembarking and park next to the passenger car.
  • the weight of the wheelchair should also be as low as possible to enable such handling.
  • a foldable wheelchair is known (DE-C-34 30 292), in which the seat plate and backrest each consist of two parts connected by a joint.
  • a wheelchair which is partially collapsible, i.e. can be reduced in width so that it can be pushed through narrow doors, for example.
  • the known wheelchair has a split seat, these seat halves being arranged in an articulated manner on the frame side parts and being supported on the other hand by telescopic rods which are likewise connected in an articulated manner to the side parts with their other ends. The upper ends of the telescopic rods engage the seat part connected to the opposite side part.
  • the known wheelchair has four resiliently supported trailing wheels and two drive wheels, so that when the chair is relieved these are lifted and the wheelchair is pushed together by a certain part of its width without external force.
  • the invention has for its object to design a wheelchair of the type mentioned, that is, a wheelchair with joints with a horizontal axis, so that it has a low weight, small dimensions in the folded state and a rigid seat plate, and on the other hand folds up automatically when lifting.
  • the two seat plate parts are connected to one another by a seat joint, the joint axis of which lies in the longitudinal center plane of the wheelchair, that a handle is arranged approximately above the center of gravity of the wheelchair, which lies in or below the seat plate and through a hole in it is accessible, and that the telescopic rods are pressed onto the block in the unfolded state of the wheelchair.
  • the seat plate parts form, so to speak, components of the linkage by which the frame side parts are connected to one another.
  • a seat shell half, a telescopic rod and a side part together form a rigid triangle. Two such rigid triangles are articulated to one another via the seat joint. The pulling element prevents these two triangular constructions from unfolding.
  • the wheelchair folds itself up when it is lifted at the seat joint or above the seat joint. Additional manipulations are not necessary. All parts of the wheelchair remain connected, so that it is not necessary to assemble parts after the wheelchair has been unfolded. Folding and unfolding is just as easy as with a wheelchair with flexible straps as a seat and backrest.
  • the telescopic rods are resilient (claim 2). Such telescopic rods endeavor to bring the wheelchair into the folded state, as a result of which the folding is much easier. Gas springs are particularly suitable as telescopic rods because of their light weight.
  • the tension element is preferably flexible (claim 3).
  • the tension element can be a belt or a wire rope. This also helps to keep the weight of the entire wheelchair low.
  • telescopic rods and tension element Preferably two parallel arrangements of telescopic rods and tension element are provided (claim 4). Overall, this results in a warp-resistant construction. With a corresponding stiffness of the joints and the telescopic rods, it is also possible to get by with an arrangement of telescopic rods and tension element.
  • the seat plate is preferably trough-shaped (claim 5). This provides the user with a particularly good hold. When the side joints are arranged in the region of the troughs, the width of the folded wheelchair is as small as possible.
  • a rigid backrest is preferably also provided (claim 6), which can also be trough-shaped (claim 7).
  • a rigid two-part backrest gives the user a good hold in the back and also helps to stiffen the wheelchair, since it also acts as a spacer between the frame side parts.
  • a handle is arranged approximately above the center of gravity of the wheelchair in or below the seat plate, which is accessible through a hole in the seat plate. This allows a particularly comfortable grasping of the wheelchair when folding and unfolding.
  • the wheelchair has a frame 1 on which wheels 2 and 3 are mounted. There are also trailing rollers 4, 5 on the frame.
  • the frame also has a seat plate, generally designated 6, and a backrest, generally designated 7.
  • the frame 1 has two frame side parts 8, 9 which are connected to one another via a linkage consisting of two identical arrangements 10, 10 '.
  • the entire construction is symmetrical about a longitudinal central plane 11, so that the side parts 8, 9 are symmetrical about this longitudinal central plane 11.
  • the nature of the frame side parts 8, 9 is described in detail using the example of the frame side part 9.
  • This has a horizontal area 12, at the rear end of which there is a bearing 13 for the impeller 2. From the horizontal area 12, a downwardly sloping area 14 protrudes, which carries a footrest 15 at its lower end.
  • the trailing roller 4 is also attached to the frame side part 9. This is mounted in a fork 16 which can pivot about a vertical axis 17. Due to the lateral displacement of the roller axis of rotation 4a with respect to the vertical axis 17, the wheel 4 continues to run without the same being controlled.
  • the arrangement 10 has two telescopic rods 18, 19 designed as gas springs.
  • the cylinder parts 18a, 19a of the gas springs are articulated on the frame side part 8 or on the frame side part 9 by means of lower side joints 20, 21.
  • the axes of the lower side joints run horizontally.
  • the piston rods 18b are articulated on a seat joint 22.
  • the seat joint 22 also connects the seat plate parts 6a, 6b of the seat plate 6.
  • Each seat plate part 6a, 6b then has a flat part 24 on the seat joint 22 and on the outside thereof an outer region 25 which is concavely curved, so that the seat plate 6 as a whole is trough-shaped.
  • the seat plate part 6a is connected in an articulated manner to the frame side part 8 by means of an upper side joint 26.
  • the joint 26 is arranged in the curved region 25 of the seat plate part 6a and, like the joints 20, 21, 22, has a horizontal joint axis.
  • the seat plate part 6b is articulated to the frame side part 9 by means of a corresponding upper side joint 27.
  • a flexible tension element 28 extends between the lower side joints 20, 21, which e.g. can be designed as a wire rope.
  • the arrangement 10 is located in the rear area of the seat plate 23 and the arrangement 10 'in the front area thereof. There is a hole 29 in the seat plate 6 (see FIG. 2), which is bridged by a handle 30.
  • the handle 30 coincides approximately with the axis of the seat joint 22.
  • Posts 31, 32 rise from frame 1.
  • the upper end of each post is designed as a handle 31a or 32a. The wheelchair can be pushed using these handles.
  • the backrest 7 already mentioned extends between the posts 31, 32. It consists of two parts 7a, 7b which are mirror images of one another and which are articulated to one another at a backrest joint 23. In their outer regions, the backrest parts 7a, 7b are connected to the posts 32, 31, which in turn are rotatable relative to the frame side parts 8, 9.
  • the backrest parts 7a, 7b are in such a position relative to one another that flat parts 34 thereof lie in one plane. At the flat parts 34, curved parts 35 also adjoin here, so that the backrest 7 also forms a depression, which, however, is flatter than on the seat plate 6.
  • the backrest 7 also serves as a spacer between the frame side parts 8, 9 and at the same time forms one Stiffening plate, which prevents the entire frame 1 from twisting in the form of a parallelogram.
  • the handle 30 If the wheelchair is to be folded up, it is gripped by the handle 30. Gripping the handle is easily possible thanks to the hole 29 in the seat plate 6.
  • the handle 30 When the wheelchair is lifted, its parts reach the position shown in dash-dot lines.
  • the flat parts 24 of the seat plate parts 6a, 6b are in an approximately parallel position to one another.
  • the piston rods 18b and 19b of the gas springs are extended. This extension movement is supported by the gas pressure in the springs, which makes it much easier to fold up the wheelchair.
  • the tension elements 28 become slack, which is also shown in FIG. 5.
  • the backrest parts 7a, 7b are folded together, which is also shown in the drawing, is particularly clearly visible in FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • the footrests 15 are also shown according to the arrow 36 on the falling ones Areas 14 of the frame side parts 8, 9 created.
  • the wheelchair has the appearance according to FIG. 4 when viewed from the front. In this state it can be comfortably carried on the handle 30.
  • the wheelchair When the wheelchair is unfolded, it is placed on the floor with a slightly inclined wheel 2 or 3. A downward pressure on the handle 30 causes the wheelchair to spread apart.
