Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for the intermittent application of liquids, such as adhesive, in particular hot melt adhesives with the features of the preamble of claim 1.
- the device according to the invention is particularly suitable for applying viscous material such as melted hot melt adhesive.
- valve arrangement consists of a simple shut-off valve which is opened and closed intermittently.
- the full pressure of the supply pump builds up in the line between the storage container and the valve that is not mitigated by dynamic pressure drops. If the valve is now opened suddenly, and this is necessary for rapid application with a high interruption frequency, a relatively large amount of adhesive shoots onto the material to be coated at the start of the application, so that the application there becomes undesirably thick.
- the simple shut-off valve in the adhesive feed line has already been replaced by a valve arrangement that works according to the principle of the three-way valve, in which the adhesive does not stand still in the supply line during the non-order period, but via a return line flows back, which is opened each time the adhesive supply to the nozzle is closed. In this way, the constant change between full dynamic pressure and dynamic pressure in the nozzle area is avoided. Nevertheless, even with such a valve construction, the cleanliness of the onset of the job can be improved, particularly when the job is interrupted and the relative speed between the web and the application nozzle is high.
- the invention solves the task of developing the device according to the preamble of claim 1 in particular in such a way that an optimally dimensioned job is carried out, in particular at the beginning and end of the job, even when the web arrangement is moving very quickly and the working frequency is high.
- the invention solves this problem in that the nozzle arrangement has two shut-off valves connected in series, the main valve of which is connected directly upstream of the nozzle, can interrupt the flow from the reservoir to the nozzle, while a pre-valve upstream of the main valve can shut off a return line to the reservoir which is connected to the line, and that both valves can be controlled in an adjustable temporal relationship to one another.
- Such a valve arrangement makes it possible, by means of the pilot valve, to regulate the pressure ratios in the main valve exactly as desired, both when opening and closing, and both from the beginning to the end of the usually short application distance, a constant application thickness and also a clean insertion and termination of the order.
- the pre-valve is only closed shortly after the main valve is opened (the time delay is of course very small), not only the excessive order which normally occurs when only one valve is present at the start of the order is prevented.
- the job is also used extremely evenly and razor-sharp, as was previously not possible. By regulating the time interval, practically any desired use of the job can be achieved here.
- the valve remote from the nozzle is opened shortly before (the time shift is also very small here).
- the main valve is one which, when it closes in the direction of flow, exerts an additional thrust on the adhesive column downstream of the needle valve, for example a needle valve.
- opening the pilot valve shortly before the main valve closes reduces the pressure in the area between the outlet slot of the nozzle and the main valve, which counteracts any type of dripping in the nozzle. This advantage is achieved regardless of how the main valve is constructed.
- the length of the line from the pre-valve to the main valve should be short. It is advantageously not much larger, but also not much smaller than the path from the main valve to the nozzle outlet opening and is advantageously three to six times this path.
- At least one of the valves - preferably also the other - is a needle valve.
- Such needle valves have the great advantage that they are commercially available as finished units and, moreover, are particularly well suited for the specific task at hand here.
- valves Since in many cases the valves have to be actuated very quickly, the valves can preferably be actuated pneumatically. If the pneumatic actuation pressure is selected to be sufficiently high and the areas acted upon by it are correspondingly large, extremely rapid and reliable valve actuation can be achieved.
- the pneumatically actuated valves preferably carry differential pistons on their shafts, the smaller surface of which is constantly under pressure, which keeps the valve closed or strives to close it, and whose larger surface can be acted upon by pressure medium from the opposite side in order to open the valve .
- the control of the valve loading with pressure medium - generally compressed air - is preferably carried out electromagnetically, since in this way it is possible to actuate the valves very precisely and quickly, even at a high frequency.
- the invention is based on the following of the preferred embodiment illustrated in the drawing.
- the drawing shows a view of the device according to the invention from the side, for the sake of clarity the storage container for pressurized hot melt adhesive including the feed pump required for this and the connecting lines to the application head are not shown.
- the application head shown in the drawing bears on its underside an application nozzle 1, which at 2 has an application slot extending perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, from which hot-melt adhesive is to be applied intermittently to the material web indicated at 3.
- the material web is moved under the application nozzle at a small distance of, for example, half a millimeter at a speed of, for example, 250 m / min.
- Hot melt adhesive should be applied with the nozzle at intervals of, for example, 2 cm over a length of 4 cm.
- the nozzle is screwed onto the application head 4 from below, which essentially holds and supports the valve arrangement.
- the feed channel 5 for hot melt adhesive which is closed at the top by a valve seat body 6, which sits pressure-tight by means of 0-rings in a correspondingly stepped bore 7 of the head 4.
- the needle 8 of a needle valve 9 which, in its lowered position, which is shown in the drawing, closes the valve seat in the valve seat body 6 and, in the raised state, the inflow of hot-melt adhesive through the horizontal line 10 to channel 9 allows.
- the needle valve 9 is the main valve. It is commercially available.
- the valve needle carries a differential piston, the smaller one, in a manner not shown the upward-facing surface is under the pressure of air, which tends to push the valve needle down into the valve seat and thereby close the main valve.
- the compressed air is fed via line 12 to the top of the cylinder of the differential piston valve 9.
- line 13 air is supplied from the same pressure to the underside of the piston, which is correspondingly larger, so that when the air supply is switched from line 12 to line 13, the differential piston is suddenly raised and the valve is opened, in which the Needle 8 is lifted off the seat.
- An electromagnetically operated reversing valve 15 is used to reverse the compressed air supply from line 12 to line 13 and vice versa.
- Such electromagnetic reversing valves 15 for compressed air and the needle valve 9 are known and are therefore only described thematically here.
- the indicated in the right half of the application head 4 dotted horizontal channel 10 connects to a nozzle 20 on which an insulated supply hose, not shown, for hot melt adhesive is attached.
- the other end of the supply hose is located at the outlet of the pressure and feed pump for the hot melt adhesive.
- the pump is provided with a pressure relief valve in the usual manner, which opens when the pressure on the pressure side of the pump increases, and opens the hot melt adhesive back into the supply for liquid hot melt adhesive can flow back.
- a second needle valve 25 is arranged above the horizontal feed bore 10, which has essentially the same structure as the valve 9 and is also actuated in the same way by means of a solenoid valve. This valve arrangement is therefore not described in more detail in terms of structure and control.
- a vertical bore 26 extends downward from the horizontal feed bore 10 and then to the right in the drawing kinks and leads to the nozzle 28, from which a pressure hose for excess hot melt adhesive leads back to the reservoir for liquid hot melt adhesive.
- the entrance of the bore 26 from the horizontal bore 10 is closed by the valve needle 30 of the second needle valve 25, which valve needle is held wider than the needle 8.
- Needle 30 is of course dimensioned such that it does not oppose the flow of hot-melt adhesive in bore 10 with too high a resistance.
- the bore 26 is dimensioned large enough to allow the hot melt adhesive supplied through the connector 20 to be returned through the connector 28 without undesirably high throttling.
- the electromagnetic control valves 15 and 30 for the needle valves 9 and 25 are actuated electromagnetically at desired intervals and time intervals.
- the control is carried out with the help of a so-called microprocessor, which can control the opening and closing of the two needle valves 9 and 25 with very high accuracy at desired time intervals and displacements with respect to one another.
- the applicator 2 is preferably such as ov in the 26 N.
- the feed channel 5 bends to the right within the nozzle body at approximately half its height in the drawing, in order then to flow in the region of the joint 5a between the right and left parts of the nozzle body into a distribution chamber, which is shown in the drawing perpendicular to the plane of the drawing and symmetrical with respect to the plane of the angled feed channel5.
- the hot-melt adhesive then flows vertically from this spreading chamber through a slot of constant width and constant thickness down to the outlet opening, from where it lies on the web material 3.
- the slot is formed by a milling in the left part of the nozzle body in the drawing, while the spreading chamber is formed by a recess in the right part of the nozzle body, so that / what the flow of the melt Concerns adhesive in the horizontal direction, this first flows into the spreading chamber, in which it spreads in both directions perpendicular to the plane of the drawing across the width of the nozzle, but then has to flow back to the area of the slot in the horizontal direction.
- Such training has proven to be particularly advantageous.
- the pilot valve can also e.g. be designed as a three-way valve.
- the needle of the same can e.g. have a thickening that closes the line to the main valve with its lower end and the return line with its upper end. This enables the pressure behind the pilot valve to be controlled even more precisely.

Abstract
