Definitions

  • the subject of the present invention is a method of coating a substantially flat quadrilateral face of a support with a continuous layer of aggregates.
  • the existing methods essentially consist of either coating the face of the support to be coated with the layer of aggregates with a material which makes these aggregates adhere to the support, depositing the layer of aggregates in their natural state on the coated face of the support, coat, using said material, the upper face of the layer of aggregates deposited on the support and harden the aforementioned material, either to mix the aggregates and the aforementioned material at the time of use and to spread this mixture over the support with trowel or float.
  • the object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide a method for coating the material with each aggregate constituting the layer to be deposited on the support in order to obtain perfect adhesion of the aggregates to the latter, using a small quantity of said material, which makes it possible to keep the aggregates their natural appearance; this process also offers the advantage of authorizing a high production rate.
  • the aggregates are freed of foreign matter, they are brought to a level higher than that of the support, the flow rate of the aggregates is adjusted, they are distributed to form the aforementioned layer, this last, towards the support, by gravity, during the fall of the layer, the aggregates which form it are coated with a material which makes these aggregates adhere to the support, the place of fall of the layer is moved relative to the support , in a direction parallel to one of the sides of the latter, the relative speed of movement of said location is adjusted and the material coating the aggregates placed on the support is allowed to harden.
  • the aggregates are washed to rid them of foreign matter and they are kept in the required moist state until they are coated with the aforementioned material.
  • the layer of aggregates deposited on the support is coated, using the aforementioned material, at a location close to the place of fall of the above-mentioned layer, as well as the face of the support to be coated in a place close to the place of fall of the above-mentioned layer.
  • the aggregates and the abovementioned material are charged electrically, with opposite polarities.

  • a face 1 in the form of a substantially flat quadrilateral, of a support 2 by a continuous layer 3 of aggregates 4.
  • the aggregates of foreign matter in 5 are brought to a higher level 6 than that of the support 2, we adjust, in 7, the flow of the aggregates, we distribute them to form the layer 3, we move the latter , at 8, towards the support, by gravity, during the fall of the layer, the aggregates 4 which form it are coated with a material capable of making the aggregates adhere to the support, the drop location 9 is moved from the layer relative to the support 2 in a direction parallel to one of the sides of the latter, the relative speed of movement of said place 9 is adjusted and the above-mentioned material is allowed to harden at 10, coating the aggregates placed on the support.
  • the aggregates 4 are coated with the above-mentioned material, as well as to facilitate the adhesion of the said material, consisting of an aqueous dispersion of an acrylic copolymer free of plasticizer, to the aggregates, the aggregates 4 are washed, in 5, to rid them of foreign materials and they are kept in the required moist state until they are coated with this material.
  • the said material consisting of an aqueous dispersion of an acrylic copolymer free of plasticizer

  • the location 15 of the projection of the water vapor is of course chosen so that the latter reaches the layer of aggregates before the curing of the material begins.
  • the face 17 of the support 2 which is opposite to the face 1 receiving the layer 3 of aggregates is advantageously heated at 16, as shown in FIG. 6, this heating taking place in the area of said support which is coated with the aforementioned material in the uncured state.

  • the means 18 for ridding the aggregates of foreign matter advantageously comprise a washing enclosure at the outlet of which are arranged heating elements 24 intended to dry, at least partially, the aggregates.
  • the means 20 for regulating the flow of the aggregates and the means 21 for distributing them and forming a continuous layer thereof comprise, on the one hand, an inclined table 25 on the upper face of which the aggregates 4 move by gravity, which has, parallel to its lower edge 26, over the entire length and close to the latter, an element 27 projecting from this upper face, the section of which is substantially semi-circular, and, on the other hand, a vibration generator 28 connected to the table 25, means not shown being provided, on the one hand, vary the inclination of the table and, on the other hand, modify the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations provided by the generator 28.
  • the heating means 24, intended to at least partially dry the aggregates 4, are advantageously constituted, as shown in FIG. 6, on the one hand, by ramps 29 arranged to emit infrared radiation directed towards the upper face of the table inclined 25 and, on the other hand, by resistors 30 associated with the upper face of said table.
  • the means 22 for coating the aggregates 4 with the above-mentioned layer of material may consist of a single nozzle ramp 31 disposed parallel to the support 2 and to the layer 3, at 8, and the length of which is substantially equal to the dimension of the layer 3 taken parallel to the ramp 31, the nozzles being oriented to disperse said material, to coat the aggregates 4 of the layer, in the area 8 above.
