Definitions

  • black pepper or an extract thereof has a toxic effect on a large number of insects. It was initially assumed that the pungent principle of the pepper, the piperine or a derivative of the piperine, was responsible for the insecticidal action. However, in later work it was shown that not the piperine but other alkaloids of the pepper have an insecticidal action (su li. ' Horvat, Agricult. Food Che. 29, 115 (1981). The authors mentioned have ground black pepper with acetone extracted and isolated from the extract with the aid of chromatographic methods alkaloids containing amide groups with insecticidal activity .. Black pepper is the dried, unripe fruit of the tropical plant
