- the invention relates to an arc extinguishing device for switching devices in electrical power engineering according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Arc extinguishing devices have the task of extinguishing the arc that occurs in switches when switched off. Such an arc occurs when the contacts are opened due to the evaporation of the last metal bridge due to the current heat. With switch disconnectors and circuit breakers, it is important to make this arc disappear as quickly as possible and to create sufficient insulation between the contacts. While with direct current it is important to achieve a high arc voltage in the switching chambers, alternating current is the effective reduction of the charge carriers in the short time between a zero current crossing and the oscillation of the recurring voltage. It depends very much on the type of switch whether the final power interruption occurs after one or more zero crossings. It is important that the arc gap is sufficiently cooled.
