Definitions

  • the invention relates to a printing unit with a housing in which a plurality of type carriers are mounted, which are in a drive connection with coaxially arranged adjusting wheels each having a central bore, an adjusting shaft which is axially displaceable and rotatable in the space formed by the central bores of the adjusting wheels is arranged and can be brought into a drive connection by axial displacement with each of the setting wheels, an actuating button attached to an end section of the setting shaft for shifting and rotating the setting shaft and a display device which is arranged in the housing in a manner parallel to the setting shaft and with one end section of the Adjustment shaft is connected so that it can rotate relative to it, but can only move axially together with it, the display device being assigned to the type holders so that their position can be seen which type holder is in the respective
  • the axial position of the setting shaft can be adjusted via the drive connection between the latter and a setting wheel and between the setting wheel and the type carrier.
  • Such a printing unit is known from DE-OS 30 31 820.
  • This printing unit is intended for use in a hand-held labeling device by providing self-adhesive labels with a price imprint or the like, which can then be attached to an article of goods by means of the labeling device.
  • the individual type carriers must be adjusted in the printing unit in such a way that the desired print types reach the printing position.
  • This setting can be achieved by a suitable rotation and displacement of the setting shaft using the operating button.
  • the actuation button protrudes on the side of the housing of the printing unit, and in the application specifically mentioned, it also projects on the side of the housing of the hand-held labeling device, so that the printing types can be set without removing the printing unit from the device housing.
  • the display device used to control the adjustment processes to be carried out is connected to the end section of the adjustment shaft which carries the actuating button via a web which surrounds the end section by means of a hub, then runs radially and carries at its end the display device running parallel to the axis of the adjustment shaft.
  • the actuation button is as easily accessible as possible and protrudes far out of the housing.
  • sticking out far is disadvantageous when handling the labeling device, since the operator can easily hit objects or get caught somewhere with the actuating button, which under certain circumstances can even damage the printing unit.
  • a reduction in the protrusion of the actuating button makes the operation not inconsiderably difficult, since it can happen that the operator gets caught with the fingers gripping the operating button during the rotary movement to be carried out on the web carrying the display device. This could only be avoided by touching the control button with your fingertips, which, however, makes twisting difficult.
  • an axially displaceable actuating button is used to improve the ease of use, which can be moved back into a less protruding position after the setting operations have been carried out.
  • the use of the actuating button which can be displaced relative to the setting shaft, is disadvantageous with regard to the clear association between the position of the actuating button and the position of the display device.
  • the operator must always first convince himself of the position of the adjusting shaft by looking closely at the display device, while in the case of printing units with an axially immovable actuating button the position of the button also contributes to the detection of the position of the adjusting shaft.
  • Moving the operating button before adjusting the setting shaft is an additional operating step, which is particularly troublesome when the setting wheel to be adjusted when the setting shaft is fully inserted is to be acted on.
  • the invention has for its object to design a printing unit of the type described in such a way that a good ease of use is achieved with a little protruding button on the side.
  • connection between the end section of the adjusting shaft carrying the actuating button and the display device is formed by a circular cap which has a hub on the end section of the Adjustment shaft is mounted and on the edge of which the display device is attached.
  • the cap has the shape of a cone tapering towards the hub. This further development creates a little more space for the operator's fingers when grasping the actuating head.
  • the printing unit 10 shown in FIG. 1 contains a printing unit housing composed of two housing halves 12 and 14, in which a plurality of type carriers 20, embodied as tapes, are arranged next to one another in parallel, guided around setting wheels 16 and a deflection edge 18.
  • the type carriers 20 carry print types 22 on one half of their outer peripheral surface and display types 24 on the other half.
  • the assignment of the print types 22 to the display types 24 is carried out in such a way that print types 22, which are currently in the printing position on the deflection edge 18, and Display types 24, which are visible through a window 26 arranged on the top of the housing, each represent the same number, the same bus letter or the like. This means that it can be seen on the top of the housing through the window 26 which character can be printed on the recording medium with the printing types 22 located at the bottom on the deflecting edge.
  • the type carriers 20 are guided around setting wheels 16 which are rotatably mounted on a sleeve 28.
  • At least one slot 30 is provided in the sleeve 28 and is open at the sleeve end on the right in FIG. 1.
  • a tooth 36 which is attached to an adjusting shaft 42, extends through this slot.
  • the setting shaft 42 is axially displaceably mounted in a bearing bushing 44 in the housing half 14. By displacing the setting shaft 42 in the axial direction, this shaft can be brought into a drive connection by engagement of the tooth 36 in one of a plurality of recesses 46 in the hub regions of the setting wheels 16.
  • An actuating button 48 is attached to the section 45 of the adjusting shaft 42 protruding from the housing, with the aid of which the shaft can be axially displaced on the one hand and rotated on the other hand.
  • the tooth 36 attached to it is first brought into engagement with one of the recesses 46 of an adjusting wheel 16 to be adjusted, and by rotating the adjusting shaft 42, the type carrier 20 guided around its outer circumference is moved until one Desired print type 22 is in the printing position below the deflection edge 18.
  • the respective position of the print types 22 can be checked through the window 26 attached to the top of the housing.
  • the type carriers 20 have teeth on their inner surface, which engage in recesses in the outer peripheral surfaces of the setting wheels 16.
  • a latching mechanism is provided which ensures that the adjusting shaft engages in positions in one position in which it can be clearly felt by the operator unique drive connection is made with an adjustment wheel 16 to be adjusted.
  • This locking mechanism contains a locking finger 54 integrally formed on the sleeve 28, which projects radially inward on the inner surface of the sleeve and engages in locking recesses 56 which are provided in a region of the outer peripheral surface of the adjusting shaft 42.
  • a latching recess 56 is provided for each of the setting wheels 16 supported on the sleeve 28.
  • the setting shaft 42 in which the setting shaft 42 is engaged with the leftmost setting wheel 16, the setting shaft 42 is moved to the right so that it comes into engagement with the next setting wheel 16, for example first the latching force exerted by the latching finger 54 on the adjusting shaft 42 is overcome when it is moved upward out of the associated latching recess 56 in the illustration in FIG. 1; it can then fall into the next latching recess 56, which occurs precisely when the setting shaft 42 is in engagement with the second setting wheel 16 from the left.
  • the setting shaft 42 extends in the section 45 directly adjacent to the actuating button 48 through a hub 62 which is attached to a conical cap 64.
  • This cap carries a frame 27 surrounding the window 26, which is slidably mounted on the top of the housing. If the Setting shaft 42 is axially displaced, the frame 27 moves with the window 26, the end of the viewing window on the left in FIG. 1 being in the region of the plane of the setting wheel 16 with which the setting shaft 42 is engaged.
  • the frame 27 thus forms a display device with its window 26, and by observing the left end of the window 26, the operator knows in every axial position of the setting shaft 42 which type carrier 20 can just be brought into the desired position.
  • a marking arrow 29 recognizable in FIG. 3 on the frame 27 facilitates the identification of the type carrier 20 that is to be adjusted.
  • This locking mechanism consists of a helical spring 66 which is arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the adjusting shaft 42 on the circumference of the adjusting wheels 16 in such a way that it partially penetrates into the recesses 52 on the circumference of the adjusting wheels 16, which can be clearly seen in FIG. 1. So that the setting wheels 16 can be rotated, although the coil spring 66 engages in its recesses, the coil spring 66 is mounted on an elastically flexible cushion 68.
  • the helical spring 66 can deflect in this way and thereby push into the cushion 68.
  • the operator initially feels an increase in the torsional force to be used, which then decreases again when the coil spring penetrates into the next recess 52. The operator therefore feels significant force peaks, and he knows that whenever he has overcome a force peak, a type of pressure 22 is in the exact printing position below the deflection edge 18.
  • the cap 64 connecting the section 45 of the adjusting shaft 42 with the frame 27 containing the window 26 has a conical shape toward the actuating button according to FIGS. 1 and 3. 2 completely covers the upper part of the printing unit when the setting shaft 42 is pushed completely into the printing unit, as is the case in FIGS. 1 and 3. Since the cap 64 forms a closed surface, the touching and twisting of the actuation button 48 is not impeded, even if the actuation button 48 is made relatively narrow, so that the fingertips of the operator protrude inward towards the cap 64 beyond the actuation button 48. The fingertips can easily slide along the smooth outer surface of the cap 64 when the actuating button 48 is turned. The side projection and the thickness of the actuation button can therefore be kept small.
  • the conical cap 64 the stability of the connection between the adjusting shaft 42 and the frame 27 is also considerably improved.
  • the cap 64 also contributes very well to protecting the printing unit against the ingress of contaminants, since the bearing area is well closed in the fully inserted state of the adjusting shaft.
  • the cap 64 carries at its end diametrically opposite the frame 27 a pin 70 which projects through a passage 72 in the housing half 14 into the cavity surrounded by the coil spring 66.
  • This pin 70 contributes, inter alia, to an improvement in the guidance of the cap 64, since its edge is thus guided at two diametrically opposite points when the adjusting shaft is axially displaced.
  • the printing unit described is intended to be used in a hand-held labeling device, in which price labels and the like can be found on self-adhesive labels. Like. Can produce by moving it downward relative to the housing of the device in the view of Fig. 1.
  • the wall of the device housing runs parallel to the printing unit housing half 14 at a distance, and it protrudes until just below the pin 70.
  • the operating button protrudes undesirably far from the housing of the labeling device.
  • pin 70 prevents actuation of the labeling device, which is associated with a lowering of the printing unit.
  • the pin 70 bumps against the wall of the device housing, so that the operator is reminded to bring the adjusting shaft back into the position shown in FIG. 1 before actuating the device again.
  • the conical shape of the outer surface of the cap can be used in conjunction with the wall of the device housing to automatically reset the setting shaft to the fully retracted position when the printing unit is lowered when the device is actuated and the setting shaft is still slightly pulled out.
