Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a rim for pneumatic tires and is particularly intended for use in connection with fast-moving commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses or the like.
  • fast-moving commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses or the like.
  • the tire pressure has decreased, when driving through curves or the like. due to shear forces occurring parallel to the wheel axis, the tire with its bead foot moves inwards into the rim base, which loosens the tire bead against the rim flange. This can result in the remaining air escaping from the interior of the tire and the entire tire becoming detached from the rim.
  • the object of the invention is to counter the aforementioned risk of sliding of the tire bead foot on the rim shoulder by the special design of the rim itself and to provide a rim in which sliding the tire bead into the rim bed even with increased stress (excessive speeds when cornering) and is prevented even with negative pressure in the tire.
  • the surface of the support shoulder of the rim is sawtooth-like in the region in which at least a portion of the tire bead foot comes to rest, the tooth flanks being directed outwards so that the tire bead must overcome a very large force when moving against the tooth flanks, while it is much easier to slide on the back of the teeth, that is to say in an outward direction.
  • Fig.2 the formation of the surface of a support shoulder for a drop center rim according to Fig. 1,
  • FIG. 4 shows a plan view of an embodiment according to FIG.
  • Fig. 5 and 6 possible bumps, as they can be used advantageously to increase the friction between the tire bead and support shoulder within the scope of the invention.
  • FIG. 1 shows in section a possible embodiment of a drop center rim, as it is used in this form in practice for trucks. It is a two-piece drop center rim, the sections in the drawing which are of no importance for the explanation of the invention being cut out.
  • 1 denotes the outer rim flange, which normally comes to rest on the outside when the wheel rim is mounted on the vehicle.
  • the rim flange 1 is then followed by a first support shoulder 2 and a second slightly offset support shoulder 3, which merges into a drop bed 4 accordingly.
  • the back of the rim shown has a support shoulder 5 which merges into the rear rim flange 6.
  • the rim itself is provided with stiffening and cooling ribs 7 and 7 'on the inside, which are evenly distributed over the circumference of the rim.
  • the surface in the area of the support shoulder 2 and optionally also in the area of the support shoulder 5 is provided with - as only schematically indicated - bumps 8 and 8 'in an embodiment to be described in detail.
  • These bumps are the friction between the - not shown in the figure 1 - foot of a tire bead and the support shoulder greatly increase, preferably in such a way that a very high resistance is opposed to an inward sliding of the tire bead, while a displacement outward against the rim flange 1 is possible with much less friction.
  • FIG. 2 how this can be done in detail is shown schematically in FIG. 2, where only rim flange 1 and support shoulder 2 of a wheel rim are shown schematically and in sections.
  • the surface of the support shoulder 2 is sawtooth-shaped in section, the teeth 11 being directed such that the tooth flanks are directed outwards in the direction of the rim flange 1.
  • the dimensions of the tooth height and the distance of the tire foot are recorded strongly.
  • the height of the individual teeth should only be selected from a few tenths of a millimeter to a few millimeters, the foot of the tire bead being pressed firmly into the teeth due to the high internal pressure, so that the airtightness of the tire is not impaired in any way becomes.
  • the teeth are guided in a ring on the support shoulder around the entire wheel, so that the same resistance is opposed to a displacement of the tire bead inwards regardless of the position of the wheel in relation to the ground.
  • the configuration of the support shoulder with the features according to the invention is of particular importance in the support shoulder that comes to the outside when the wheel is mounted.
  • the shoulder that is to be inward can also be advantageously configured in accordance with the invention in the sense of increasing the slip resistance for the mounted tire.
  • truck bikes that can be mounted on both sides, it is advisable to design both support shoulders accordingly.
  • the measures taken to increase the sliding friction between the tire bead foot and the support shoulder can also be used to additionally secure the tire on the rim against rotation relative to the rim in the circumferential direction.
  • FIG. 3 shows in a sectional view approximated to FIG. 2 the formation of the support shoulder 2 following the rim flange 1. It can be seen that two square knobs 12 are provided instead of sawtooth-shaped elevations. These knobs 12 are distributed on the surface of the support shoulder, as seen in the direction of arrow 13, as shown, for example, in FIG. 4, FIG. 4 being a short section of a development extending in the direction of the two arrows 14, 14 ' Shows shoulder of a rim ring.
  • knobs or cams 12 which, in combination with an embodiment according to FIG. 2, can also be designed as inclined ramps with a flank side to the outside, guarantees on the one hand that the friction of the tire bead foot on the inside is significantly increased, and on the other hand that a relative shift in the circumferential direction between the rim and the tire is made more difficult by an increased friction between the two parts. As already indicated above, this is of particular importance if a tire which does not have sufficient internal air pressure is subjected to severe stress by braking in the event of a hazard, with conventional wheels no longer being able to fully transmit the braking force from the rim to the tire.
  • serpentine ridges 15 can be provided, as shown, for example, in FIG. 15, these ridges 15 in addition to ring-shaped sawtooth ridges 11 according to FIG. 2 or also on their own can be provided.
