Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electric heating glazing comprising narrow heating conductors disposed on a surface between current supply collector strips and made of an electrically conductive composition printed and baked and a protective layer of the enamel or glaze type in a paint. electrically insulating ceramic hardening by firing deposited on the collector strips so as to extend beyond their contours.
- the covering layer which must also serve as a protective layer for the electrical conductors, is arranged not only on busbars, but also on narrow heating conductors.
- the protective layer is applied in the form of a printable paste by means of a printing process to the previously printed and dried electrically conductive layer, and is baked at the same time as this last layer, in the course of a single and even heat treatment.
- the heating conductors open into the collector strips without transition and keeping their width. Strictly speaking, a slight rounding is provided at the precise locations of the outlets of the heating conductors.
- these baked-on protective layers of the enamel type can only be applied before the electroplating, so that the layers of metal cannot extend only to the edge of the protective layer of the header strips. It is enough when it is necessary to apply an effective protective layer on the conductive strips. This is particularly so when the collector strips are arranged near the periphery of the glazing in the zone which is used for mounting the glazing in the bay of the bodywork, and when the glazing is fixed by gluing.
- the adhesive materials or the base layers used have an unfavorable influence on the collector strips.
- heated glazing comprising both heating conductors reinforced by electroplating and collecting strips provided with a baked protective layer
- difficulties caused by possible weakened places in the transition zone between the heating conductors and the collecting strips worsen, because the cross section of the heating conductors is increased by the deposition of metal from the boundary edge of the protective layer.
- the object of the invention is to provide a heated glazing unit which has current supply collector strips provided with an enamel-type protective layer and which satisfies the requirements imposed by lasting reliability.
- the invention resides in the fact that the final sections of the heating conductors lying below the protective layer are widened to the point that the electrical resistance of the conduits heaters is lower in the final sections than it is on all of the actual heating sections.
- desired transition zones are therefore provided in the final sections of the heating conductors, provided that they are below the protective layer. Weak places are thus avoided in this transition zone which could lead to overheating or even destruction of the heating conductors in these places.
- the final sections of the heating conductors are preferably arranged in such a way that they widen over a distance which is greater than the distance by which the protective layer exceeds the collector strips. It is thus possible to eliminate any harmful influence during a displacement of the protective layer resulting from the printing tolerances.
- Heated glazing is used primarily as a rear window in motor vehicles.
- the heating conductors 2 are arranged on the surface of the glazing 1 facing the interior of the passenger compartment in the form of narrow strips with a width of approximately 0.4 to 1.2 mm.
- the heating conductors 2 are connected at their ends to relatively wide collecting strips 3. After mounting the glazing, the heating conductors 2 are usually arranged horizontally and the collector strips 3 are arranged along the two essentially vertical sides.
- a strip 4 with a width of about 1 to 3 cm is disposed along the periphery of the glazing and is made of an opaque ceramic material hardening by firing.
- This strip 4 is applied as a protective layer 4 on the collector strips 3 and is wider than the latter.
- the strip 4 can be limited as regards its surface area, to the two collecting strips 3.
- the strip 4 however has the form of a closed frame arranged all along the periphery glazing 1 and further provides, outside of current supply conductors 3, along the periphery of glazing 1, an opaque zone intended to conceal the limits of the layer of adhesive which normally are not completely made regular and to stop the UV rays contained in daylight which have an unfavorable effect on the adhesive layer.
- the widening of the heating conductors in their final sections 7 begins at a distance B from the delimiting edge 6 of the collector strips 3, the distance B having a length of 4 to 8 mm and therefore being at least twice the distance A which indicates for its part, the extent to which the protective layer 4 protrudes from the collector strips 3 towards the heating field.
- the distance A is of the order of 1 to 3 mm, which, within the framework of the printing tolerances, guarantees that the collector strips are in any case completely covered.
- the final sections 7 of the heating conductors gradually widen to a maximum width C at the location of the outlet in the collecting strip 3, the distance C being of the order of ten times the width of the heating conductors.
- FIG. 2 illustrates in detail the arrangement of the layers in a heated glazing whose heating conductors 2 are provided with a layer of metal 15 applied by electroplating.
- the metal layer 15 extends to the delimiting edge 5 of the covering layer 4.
- the height H of the metallized heating conductors 2 is thus greater than the height h of the collector strips 3 free of layer deposited by electroplating.
- the widening of the heating conductors in their final sections 7 also serves in this case to avoid a sudden drop in electrical conductivity at the transition point where the metal deposition ends 15.
- the cross section of the heating conductors is increased by correspondingly increased width dimensions, up to a section value preferably at least equal to that of the section reinforced by the metal deposition.
- the protective layer 4 which protrudes laterally by a few millimeters the collector strips 3, protects the latter against attack by the base layer 9 which is intended to improve the adhesiveness of the adhesive layer 10.
- the adhesive layer 10 connects the window pane 1 to the window frame 11 of the bodywork intended to receive this glazing unit 1.
- FIG. 3 illustrates an embodiment in which the heating conductors 2 are made simply of a conductive composition of printed and baked metal, in particular of a conductive composition of silver, and in which another layer 12, which corcidates with the protective layer 4, is arranged below the collector strips 3, directly on the surface of the glazing 1.
- the protective layer 4 has a gap 13, so that at this location, the surface of the collector strip 3 is exposed.
- a gap 16 of equal size is also provided below the gap 13 in the layer 12 disposed on the surface of the glass.
- the conductive material based on silver hardened by baking which forms the collector strips 3 is connected directly to the surface of the glass. This avoids an unfavorable influence on the welded junction between the collecting strip and the electrical connection element 14. It has indeed been found that under certain conditions, the welding operation can be made more difficult by the fact that the constituents of the layer located below the welding spot diffuse in the collector strips 3, which influences for example the wettability of the current supply conductor 3 by the welding.
- the screen printing stencil thus produced is used to print the glazing 1 using an electrically conductive baking paste. After printing the baking paste, the printed glazing is dried at a temperature of about 80 ° C for 5 to 10 minutes.
- the covering or protective layer 4 in the form of a frame and this also by screen printing in a manner corresponding to that used for the preparation of the screen printing stencil used to print the electrical conductors.
- care must be taken to provide, on each of the two collecting strips 3, a gap 13 which releases the collecting strip 3, so that the electrical connection elements 14 for the power cables can then be soldered in these places.
- contact openings 7 must remain in the protective layer 4 in order to establish contact with the collector strips in the electroplating bath.
- paste for printing it is possible to use in this second printing operation for example the ceramic paint hardening during cooking 14 710/80 392 from the company DEGUSSA.
- the protective layer 4 After printing the protective layer 4, this printed layer is also dried again.
- the glazing 1 is then heated to its bending or quenching temperature, it is bent if necessary to the desired shape, then it is subjected to thermal quenching by sudden cooling.
- the glazing After tempering, the glazing is subjected to an electroplating process by establishing contact at the contact openings 17 and by depositing a layer of copper and a layer of nickel 15 in the corresponding electroplating baths.
- the electroplating is carried out in accordance with the method described in US Pat. No. 3,553,833 already cited.
- the procedure is basically as described above. Unlike the process used in the first printing operation, however, in this case the layer is printed. in the form of a frame 12.
- the same screen printing stencil as that which must later be used to print the protective layer 4 on the collector strips 3.
- the same ceramic paint that hardens during firing is used for the layer. 12 and for the protective layer 4.

Abstract
Description
- - la figure 1 est une vue fragmentaire d'un vitrage chauffant conforme à l'invention ;
- - la figure 2 est une vue en coupe suivant la ligne II-II de la figure 1 d'une première forme d'exécution d'un vitrage chauffant collé dans la baie de fenêtre d'une carrosserie ;
