Definitions
- the invention relates to an improved method for cleaning surfaces made of anodized aluminum and its alloys.
- Anodization forms thin layers of aluminum oxide on the surface, which are then compacted in the manufacturing process, usually by treatment with boiling water, so that the pores are closed.
- the aluminum surfaces treated in this way are very hard and largely protected against the weather.
- anodically oxidized aluminum surfaces are often used in practice due to their high protective effect and attractive appearance, especially when used outdoors.
- Large-area aluminum parts with an anodized surface are often used as facade cladding, for example.
- Neutral cleaning agents are recommended for cleaning anodically oxidized aluminum surfaces and their alloys, as alkaline cleaning agents easily attack the metal surface of the aluminum.
- abrasive-free neutral cleaners are often not sufficient, particularly in the construction industry, for cleaning heavily soiled metal facades made of aluminum or similar material. If neutral cleaners containing an abrasive component are used, the desired effect can be achieved, but these processes are quite time-consuming and costly.
- Short-chain phosphoric acid esters have also been proposed as an acidic, low-attack cleaning component. Without mechanical support, however, such agents only remove lightly adhering soiling.
- acidic cleaners for anodized aluminum surfaces are known from DE-AS 27 21 573. These agents consist of an acidic treatment solution in the pH range of 0.8 to 3 and contain complex fluorine compounds of boron, aluminum, silicon, titanium or zirconium, individually or as a mixture. A good cleaning effect is achieved, whereby after an exposure time of
- a 65 percent solution is expediently used as the nitric acid.
- the phosphoric acid partial esters used are mixtures of mono- and diphosphoric acid esters. Products of this type can be produced by reacting phosphoric acid with aliphatic alcohols having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
- 1-hydroxyalkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids in particular, in particular in the form of 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid, and 1-aminoalkane-1,1-diphasphonic acid n or phosphonic acids containing carboxyl groups, such as 2- Phosphono-1,2,4-butane tricarboxylic acid or in particular nitrilotrimethylene phosphonic acid into consideration.
- Suitable surfactants are alkyl sulfonic acids with a chain length of C 8 to C 18 and / or alkylbenzenesulfonic acid with 8 to 15 C atoms in the alkyl radical and / or nonionic surfactants, such as adducts of 8 to 15 moles of ethylene oxide with alkylphenols, the alkyl radical of which has 8 to 12 C atoms contains as well as fatty alcohols with 8 to 18 carbon atoms.
- Suitable solubilizers and / or solvents are aliphatic alcohols, such as ethyl, propyl, isopropyl or n-butyl alcohols.
- the cleaning solutions described above are applied to the anodized surface in a thin film at ambient temperature. This can be done, for example, by spraying, but expediently by brushing, rolling or by hand wiping. After the solution has had sufficient time to act, it is then rinsed off with water.
- a major advantage of the procedure described above is that the solution can remain on the surface for a relatively long time without any noticeable attack on the aluminum oxide layer.
- a uniform and very dirty looking anodized façade was divided into three test fields, each measuring 50 x 50 cm.
- the middle test area was cleaned as well as possible with the abrasive cleaner.
- Two acidic cleaners were tested against this standard. The cleaners were applied undiluted to the test field evenly without pressure using a washer saturated with the test solution, so that a homogeneous, thin cleaning film remained. After an exposure time of 2 minutes, it was washed with plenty of water using a lambskin wiper and the remaining moisture was scraped off.
