Definitions

  • Blind rivets consist of a hollow rivet which has a flange-shaped rivet head at its end and is penetrated by a nail-shaped rivet pin, the upsetting head of which is supported against the other end of the hollow rivet.
  • the shaft of the hollow rivet is inserted through aligned holes in the parts to be joined, usually made of sheet metal, and the rivet pin is pulled out of the latter by means of a tool which is supported on the head of the hollow rivet, the compression head of the rivet pin the free end of the Expands the shaft of the hollow rivet to a second rivet head and in most cases also causes the shaft to be compressed.
  • the shaft of the rivet pin is usually provided with a predetermined breaking point, which yields when the riveting process ends, the compression head and a subsequent stub of the rivet pin remaining in the set rivet.
  • the upsetting head is pulled through the hollow rivet or pulled out of the same.
  • the rivet pin must be pulled over a drawing section to adequately deform the hollow rivet and thus to accomplish the riveting process.
  • the present invention relates to a blind riveting device according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • a blind riveting tool of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1 is known from DE-AS 1 627 426.
  • the threaded segment must be pressed into its engagement position by hand, namely before the riveting process, held in this position during the riveting process and retrieved from this position after the riveting process has ended.
  • this is not only a manual, but also a mental burden, since full attention is required to avoid incorrect manipulation.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a blind riveting device in which the riveting process is carried out completely without manual intervention by the operator.
  • the device only has to be pressed against the objects to be connected to one another in order to start the riveting process, the individual device parts automatically returning to their starting position as soon as the riveting process ends and the rivet pin either torn off or out of the Hollow rivet has been pulled out.
  • the housing of the electric drive motor has a cylindrical extension 1, in which a cylindrical sleeve 2 of the support, which is denoted overall by 3, is guided so as to be longitudinally displaceable. Under the action of a spring 4, the sleeve 2 is supported at 5 with its deposition on a shoulder of the extension 1.
  • the support 3 has a support head 14 in the form of a hollow cone, which is firmly connected to the sleeve 2.
  • the front end of the support head 14 is formed by a guide piece 6 designed in the manner of a cap screw with an axially extending guide channel 7. The latter serves to receive the rivet pin 32, the shaft 33 of which is inserted into the channel 7 from the front and at 34 a predetermined breaking point having.
  • the guide piece 6 is preferably made of magnetic material to give the blind rivet a temporary hold.
  • the cylindrical shaft 8 of an overall drawing piston 9 is guided.
  • This has a conical piston head 10, which rests in the drawn starting position of the drawing piston 9 according to FIG. 1 under the action of a spring 11 on the inner wall of the support head 14, the drawing piston 9 being supported on the support 3.
  • a spring chamber 12 extends through the piston head 10 and ends in the direction of the channel 7 at 13 in an inner cone.
  • clamping jaws 15 are arranged, which together form an extension of the channel 7 and act on the shaft 33 of the rivet pin 32 under the action of a spring 16 and the cone 13 located in the spring chamber.
  • the clamping jaws 15 are supported on the guide piece 6, whereby they are pushed back somewhat against the action of the spring 16, so that the shaft of the rivet pin is not held by the jaws 15.
  • the contact surfaces of the clamping jaws 15 with the guide piece 6 can be concave / convex, so that the clamping jaws can be pushed apart not only axially, but also radially apart. Thanks to these precautions, the shank of the rivet pin can be inserted without further ado, but also - as will be explained later - can be easily pulled out or ejected after the magnetic holding force has been overcome.
  • radial bores 17 play a role, which connect the spring chamber, which is sealed at its rear end by a screw 18, to the cavity 19 (see also FIG. 3) which lies in front of the drawing piston 9. if this is withdrawn from its starting position.
  • the drawing piston 9 has an axial bore 19 in which a slide 20 is guided, which is located at the end of a threaded spindle 21.
  • the thread 22 begins at a distance from the slide 20 and it extends up to an oblique shoulder 23.
  • a threaded nut segment 24 provided with a corresponding internal thread is radially displaceable bar in an inner bore 25 of the shaft 8 of the drawing piston 9.
  • the arrangement is such that, in the illustrated starting position of the parts explained so far (FIG. 1), the threaded segment 24 of the threaded spindle 21 is upstream and radially outwards on the inner surface of the Sleeve 2 supports.
  • the segment 24 is held against a movement radially inwards by means of a locking ball 26, which is under the action of a spring 27.
  • the segment 24 is radially centered so that it can be brought into engagement with the thread of the spindle 21 against the force of the spring 11 when the support 3 is moved.
  • the sleeve 2 has an extension 28.
  • segment 24 comes into the region of this extension, it can be displaced radially outward to such an extent that it disengages the thread of the spindle 21.
  • the longitudinal displaceability of the sleeve 2 is limited by mutually interacting stops 29 and 30 of the support on the one hand and the extension 1 on the other.
  • a wedge arrangement indicated at 31 enables the sleeve 2 or the drawing piston 9 to be displaced, but ensures that these parts cannot start to rotate.
  • a further wedge arrangement 35 prevents the nut segment 24 from rotating about its own axis without preventing its radial displacement.
  • the shaft 33 of the rivet pin 32 is first inserted into the guide channel 7 of the guide piece 6 and then the hollow rivet 37 through holes which are aligned with one another Inserted sheet metal parts 38 and 39 until the rivet head 40 is pressed against the sheet metal part 39 by the guide part 6.
  • the sleeve 2 of the support 3 is pushed into the extension 1 as far as the stops 29 and 30 allow.
  • the thread segment 24 of the support 3 comes into engagement - as can be seen in FIG.
  • the spindle 21 is equipped with a saw thread, the thread flanks essentially perpendicular to the axis facing the drive motor, so that no or no substantial radial force component acts on the segment 24.
  • the spring 11 can push the drawing piston 9 back into the support 3 until the piston head 10 rests on the support head 14.
  • the tool will hardly continue to be pressed against the sheet metal parts 38/39, especially since the spring 4 tries to push the sleeve 2 of the support out of the extension 1.
  • the support thus reaches its starting position shown in FIG. 1 before the drawing piston 9 is uncoupled from the spindle 21 under the action of the inclined surface 23. This leads to a further increase in the cavity 19 which arises in front of the piston head 10 of the drawing piston when it is withdrawn.
  • the blind rivet is set in the manner described above and the rest of the rivet pin or the rivet pin is ejected after the riveting process.
  • the extension 28 ends in an inclined shoulder 43, the threaded segment 24 having a corresponding bevel 25. This will the threaded segment is pushed back into its detent position determined by the ball 26 when the drawing piston 9 is returned to its starting position by the spring 11.
