Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a modular door closer with single or double action.
  • the door closers are either single action for closing a door with only one opening direction, or double action for closing a door with two opening directions.
  • single action door closers are often formed by a pivot pivot secured to the door to be closed and meshing with a rack connected to a spring-loaded and damped control device, the assembly being placed in an appropriately shaped housing.
  • Such door closers of the type set out in the preamble of claim 1 are known in particular from document FR-B-1 157 246.
  • double action door closers generally comprise a pivot pivot integral with the door to be closed and carrying one or more cams ensuring the movement of an operating lever of a spring-loaded and damped control device , the assembly also being placed in a housing of corresponding shape.
  • Such door closers are described in particular in document FR-A-2 045128.
  • the main drawback of these known embodiments is that it is impossible to use the same elements to produce a single action door closer and a double action door closer.
  • the two types of door closers indicated above require casings having very different proportions, and the moving parts cannot be transposed from one type to another. This entails, on the one hand, high manufacturing costs, since the parts cannot be produced in very large series, and, on the other hand, the manufacture and storage of a large number of different parts.
  • the invention aims to remedy this drawback and, for this purpose, relates to a door closer comprising, in a housing, a motor device comprising a pinion whose rotation is linked to the movement of the door and which meshes with at least one rack, said rack being connected to a spring and damper control device.
  • This door closer is remarkable in that, when it is single-acting, it is formed by assembling, on the one hand, a motor module consisting of a housing containing a motor device with a single rack and , on the other hand, a control module consisting of a second housing containing the spring device and damper.
  • a control module consisting of a second housing containing the spring device and damper.
  • it is formed by assembling the aforementioned control module, on the one hand, a connection module consisting of a housing and, on the other hand, a motor module consisting of a box containing a motor device with two racks.
  • the same control module can be used to make a single action door closer and a double action door closer.
  • the motor modules of the two types of door closers have many identical elements.
  • the door closer shown in Figs. 1 to 4 has three parts, namely, from left to right considering FIG. 1: a rack and pinion motor module 2, a connection module 3 and a control module 4.
  • Each module 2 to 4 consists of a housing 5 to 7 respectively, these housings fitting into one another for constitute after screwing the door closer housing.
  • This casing has a generally parallelepiped shape whose thickness e (Fig. 2) is constant and sufficiently small to accommodate the door closer in a door profile.
  • the housing 5 consists of two halves screwed to each other along a median vertical joint plane P, the housing 6 is in one piece, and the housing 7 consists of a body 7a open on a large face vertical and a flat cover 7b screwed on this face.
  • Each of the boxes 5 and 6 has on the right a female shape 5c, 6c, and each of the boxes 6 and 7 has on the left a male shape 6d, 7d which can fit without play in the shapes 5c, 6c respectively.
  • the shapes 5a and 6a, on the one hand, 6d and 7d, on the other hand, are identical.
  • the motor module 2 comprises a pivot 8 of vertical axis X-X freely rotatable in the housing 5 but axially fixed.
  • the intermediate part of this pivot forms a pinion 9 which meshes with two rectilinear racks 10 and 11 which each slide against a side wall of the housing 5 and which form the reflected image of one another.
  • each rack carries a horizontal pin 12 directed towards the other rack.
  • the pins 12 are in the extension of one another, and the ends of the racks are contained in two vertical planes perpendicular to the vertical plane of symmetry P of the door closer.
  • the housing 6 of the connection module 3 has a central passage 13 of rectangular section in which slides a piston 14 parallelepiped.
  • the upper wall of the passage 13 has a longitudinal groove 15 in which a flexible blade is fixed 16.
  • the left end of the latter is folded down to define a short stop 17, and its right end, which has a vertical deflection facility, has a rounded recess 18.
  • the blade 15 is fixed by screws in its left part, and a rotary cam 19 with a horizontal axis makes it possible to adjust the height of a part of this blade located between these screws and the recess 18.
  • the left end of the piston 14 carries a transverse axis 20 on which is mounted for a lever 21 in L with two arms.
  • a lever 21 in L with two arms.
  • an arm 22 In the rest position (Fig. 1), an arm 22 is retained by the stop 17 in the vertical position; the other arm 23 projects horizontally to the left out of the piston 14, and a hook 24 directed downwards, which forms the end of this arm, is situated above the common horizontal plane of the pins 12.
  • the control module 4 comprises a rotary lever 25 with a horizontal axis, one arm of which is connected to an adjustable compression spring 26 and the other to a hydraulic damper 27, also adjustable, with piston 28.
  • This assembly 4 is conventional; it will therefore not be described in more detail and is shown diagrammatically.
  • Two parallel connecting rods 29 are articulated by one end to an eccentric horizontal axis 30 carried by the lever 25 and by the other end to a horizontal axis 31 mounted in the right end of the piston14.
  • the axes 20 and 31 and the pins 12 are parallel and contained in the median horizontal plane Q of the door closer.
  • the operation of the double action door closer 1 is as follows.
  • the door closer housing is for example fixed in the upper section of the frame of a door, the lower end of the pivot 8 being fixed to the door, along its axis of rotation. Any other suitable arrangement of the door closer can also be considered.
  • the pivot 8 rotates clockwise according to the arrow f (Fig. 4) by carrying with it the rack 10, which slides to the right, and the rack 11, which slides in the opposite direction. Under the effect of this sliding, the rack 10 directly pushes the piston 14, which also slides to the right.
  • the connecting rods 29 then rotate the lever 25 in the clockwise direction of the arrow g (Fig. 3), which causes, on the one hand, the compression of the spring 26 and, on the other hand, the displacement to the right without significant obstruction of the damping piston 18 in its cylinder.
  • This opening movement is limited by the stop of the rack 11 against the left end wall of the housing 5.
  • the spring 26 tends to rotate the lever 25 in the opposite direction to the arrow g, and this rotation is braked by the damper 27, the return speed being adjustable.
  • the rotation of the lever 25 in the opposite direction to the arrow g causes the piston 14 to be pushed to the left by the connecting rods 29; the piston 14 in turn pushes the rack 10 to the left, which rotates the pivot 8 in the opposite direction to the arrow f while ensuring the closing of the door.
  • the arm 22 of the lever 21 meets the stop 17, which causes it to rise and returns the lever 21 to its starting position in FIG. 1. During this movement, the hook 24 releases the lug 12.
  • the bent end 22a of the arm 22 passes through an opening in the stop 17 to allow the lever 21 to tilt.
  • the damper 27 can comprise, as known, an oil pressure limiting device which allows in such a case an increase in the speed of movement of the piston 28.
  • damper 27 can also be provided with means allowing the abrupt acceleration of the movement at the end of the closing stroke, in order to guarantee the complete closing of the door and in particular the engagement of the lock of this door.
  • the blade 16 can serve not only as a stop for the lever 21 but also as a device for holding the door in the open position or "door stop". In fact, when the cam 19 is retracted, the blade 16 does not interfere with the trajectory of a ball 32 carried by the piston 14. However, if desired, the cam 19 can be given an angular position in which ' ei) e pushes down the right part of the blade 16. In this case, the recess 18 snaps resiliently at the end of the opening stroke on the ball 32, which constitutes the stop of the door.
  • Figs. 5 and 6 show a single action door closer 1a formed by a pivot-rack module 2a and the control module 4.
  • Module 2a is almost identical to module 2 in Figs. 1 to 4; however, it comprises a single rack 10a similar to the rack 10 but provided at its right end with a guide block sliding on the two side walls of the housing 5a and carrying a transverse axis 31a.
  • the connecting rods 29 of the assembly 4 are directly articulated on this axis 31a.
  • the door stop device 16-19 is mounted in the housing 5a and the ball 32 in a recess in the rack 10a.
  • the external dimensions of the housing 5a are the same as those of the housing 5, and we find in particular the female form 5c fitting onto the male form 7d of the housing 7.
  • This modular construction of this single action and double action door closer reduces manufacturing costs, since most of the parts are identical in both cases and can therefore be produced in very large series.
  • This modularity also makes it possible to limit the number of parts to be stored in order to assemble these door closers, and also a limitation on the number of spare parts to be supplied to resellers.
