Definitions
- the invention relates to water-soluble, low-foaming corrosion inhibitors for the weakly acidic to alkaline range, which consist of a synergistic mixture of known corrosion inhibitors, one component of which is represented by at least one reaction product of orthoboric acid and alkanolamines.
- foam dampers often have to be used, but these often have a disruptive effect because, for example, can change or even weaken the function of the process water.
- foam dampers since they are often expensive organic substances, they make the various processes in which the foam dampers are used more expensive.
- boric acid salts inhibit corrosion (Held, «Cooling Water», 2nd ed., 1977, Vulkanverlag Essen, pages 223 ff).
- the subject of an older proposal according to EP-A 0002780 is the use of certain alkanolamine salts of maleic acid as low-foaming corrosion protection agents. Although these compounds are relatively low-foaming inhibitors, they are not sufficiently microbiostatic or microbiocidal and not sufficiently anticorrosive in hard water.
- DE-A 2514000 discloses salts of certain amidosulfocarboxylic acids, which are also used as anti-corrosion agents. They are characterized by good low foam; their antimicrobial effect is also still too low.
- the aim of the invention was to find such corrosion protection agents which are at least colloidally water-soluble, offer good corrosion protection from the weakly acidic to the alkaline range, are low-foaming and as insensitive as possible to water hardness, chloride and sulfate ions and are microbiocidal or microbiostatic in the use concentrations.
- the mixtures according to the invention show the same activity against microorganisms as the boric acid condensation products alone, and that the corrosion protection effect of the mixtures, especially in very hard and strongly saline waters, is significantly greater than the sum of the effects of the individual components.
- Component a) is represented by reaction products of orthoboric acid with alkanolamines.
- Alkanolamines in the sine of the invention are understood to mean mono-, di- or trialkanolamines having 2 or 3 carbon atoms per alkanol group or mixtures thereof.
- the dialkanolamines are preferably chosen from the individual alkanolamines. Mixtures such as those produced in the production of alkanolamines by alkoxylation of ammonia are of particular technical value. Such a mixture contains dialkanolamine as the main component in addition to smaller proportions of mono- and trialkanolamine.
- Preferred individual compounds are diethanolamine and diisopropanolamine and mixtures which are formed by ethoxylation or propoxylation of ammonia and which largely contain diethanolamine or diisopropanolamine.
- alkanolamines are those which are simply substituted on the nitrogen atom by methyl, ethyl or n or isopropyl groups, e.g. Methyl, ethyl or isopropyl diethanol (diisopropanol) amine or mixtures thereof, which can be obtained by alkoxylation of the corresponding primary amines.
- condensation products obtained do not have a uniform structure; low and high molecular weight fractions with ester structures (B-O-C bonds) and amide structures (B-N-C bonds) were found.
- Component b) of the combination according to the invention is once represented by the salts of maleic acid with alkanolamines according to the definition (b 1 ), which are the subject of patent application EP-A 0002780 and are described in detail there.
- R is an isoalkyl radical 8 to 12 carbon atoms, and the longest chain has 6 to 8 carbon atoms. In the cheapest compounds, R is an isooctyl or isononyl radical.
- Preferred compounds are maleic acids derived from 2-ethylhexylamine and isonylamine (3,5,5-trimethylhexylamine).
- B l as component mixtures are suitable as they are defined according to claim 2, and up to 90 wt .-% of such Contain maleic acids of the formula I in which R is an n-alkyl radical having 8 to 12 carbon atoms.
- Mixture components are, for example, n-octyl-, n-decyl- or n-dodecylmaleinamic acid in the form of their di- or trialkanolamine salts as defined above.
- Component b 2 which is also possible. is represented by compounds or compound mixtures which obey the formula 11 defined in the claim and which are described in detail in DE-A 2 511 400.
- Mixtures of b 1 and b 2 can be chosen in any ratio, depending on the representatives of one or the other substance class currently available.
- Representatives of the group b l or mixtures of b l and b 2 in which b 2 is present up to 25% by weight are preferably selected as component b.
- the weight ratio of the mixture components a) and b) can vary within wide limits, according to the invention between 15:85 and 85:15.
- a content of 20% by weight of boric acid-alkanolamine reaction product in the mixture causes e.g. Already an excellent biocidal or biostatic effect and the addition of only 20% to a representative of component b), such as 2-ethylhexylmaleinamic acid in the form of the triethanolamine salt, provides corrosion protection, especially in very hard and salt-rich water, which is far higher than that of the individual components a).
- component b such as 2-ethylhexylmaleinamic acid in the form of the triethanolamine salt
- the corrosion inhibitors according to the invention can be used in all aqueous systems which come into contact with iron or its alloys (steels), aluminum or its alloys.
- examples include Hydraulic fluids, cooling lubricants, neutral to alkaline technical cleaners or mine water, which are particularly hard and salt-rich, and which are used directly in mining as mixing water e.g. are used for hydraulic processes and which have a particularly strong corrosive effect.
- the application concentrations of the inhibitors according to the invention vary depending on the application and type of the aqueous medium and the metals to be protected. In general, based on the aqueous preparation, 0.01 to 5% by weight is used. Falling below this limit reduces the protective effect; exceeding this does not result in any additional advantages.
- the concentration should preferably be 0.1 to 3% by weight.
- the resulting glassy solidified condensation product was water-soluble and was used for the investigations without further treatment.
- the pH values of the diluted solutions were 8.5 to 9.2.
- the corrosion protection effect was determined by the so-called «Herbert» corrosion test and the «gray cast iron» filter test.
- the sound attenuation was determined by the "IG impact method" based on DIN 53902.
- the corrosion protection effect is in 1% aqueous solution on active substance and at a water hardness of 10 ° d.H. on the Herberts test system introduced in the metalworking sector.
- This consists of a standardized gray cast iron plate and also standardized steel chips of 5 mm length, which are supplied by Alfred Herbert, Coventry / England.
- the square plate with the dimensions 100x100x5 mm is carefully sanded using a belt grinder with 120 corundum sanding belt, washed with white spirit and ethanol and dried with a clean cloth.
- the steel chips supplied with the test system which are obtained under standardized conditions from 0.40% carbon steel, are placed on the prepared cast steel plate in four piles using a suitable metal or plastic spoon with the capacity of a normal teaspoon so that they separate from each other and have the same distance from the edges of the plate.
- the chips should lie in a single layer in the narrowest possible position.
- the solutions or emulsions to be tested for their corrosion behavior are applied to the piles of chips by means of a measuring pipette in such a quantity that the liquid reaching the cast steel plate is held together by the chips. After standing for 24 hours in an atmosphere of 70% relative humidity, the chips are shaken off the plate by tilting. The clearly visible outline of the dried aqueous medium remains. At the contact points of the chips with the plate, depending on the corrosiveness of the liquid, rust marks of smaller or greater extent have formed, which can also have grown together to form a closed rust layer. The assessment can be made by visually estimating the percentage of rust in the area.
- a further corrosion test consists of the gray cast iron filter sample.
- a petri dish with an inner diameter of approx. 10 cm is used with a suitable lid dish.
- a black band round filter is placed in the Petri dish.
- a suitable spoon is used to distribute 5 to 10 g of coarse cast iron GG-20 shavings onto the filter in such a way that an even heap is created in the middle, which is around 1.5 cm from the edge all around.
- the chips are approx. 5 to 8 mm long and must be made from clean gray cast iron GG-20 material without the use of drilling oil or other cooling lubricants. All fine components must be screened off.
- the impact method was used based on DIN 53902.
- the simple test procedure was sufficient, in which the punch with the perforated plate was manually inserted and removed 30 times in 30 s and then carefully pulled out (IG impact method).
- the foam volume is read on the graduated foam cylinder after 1, 5 and 10 min in ml. Information about temperature, concentration and water hardness are also important.

Description
Da die Inhaltsstoffe (Tenside u.a.

- sehr schlecht: (--)
- intensive grosse überwiegend gelbbraune Flecken;
- schlecht: (-)
- intensive grosse Flecken mit etwa gleichem gelbbraunen und blaugrünen Anteil;
- mittelmässig: (+-)
- abgeblasste mittelgrobe Flecken mit etwa gleichem gelben und blaugrünen Anteil;
- gut: (+)
- stark abgeblasste, kleine (Stecknadelkopfgrosse) Flecken mit überwiegendem Anteil an blaugrün;
- sehrgut: (++)
