Description
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf Schmierfette mit hoher Beständigkeit bei erhöhten Temperaturen.
Schmierfette enthalten gewöhnlich ein flüssiges Medium und ein Gelierungsmittel. Das flüssige
Medium ist vorzugsweise ein Mineralöl, und das Gelierungsmittel ist gewöhnlich eine Seife von Fettsäuren
oder Oxyfettsäuren oder ein anorganisches Kolloid. Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf
Schmierfette, die anorganische Gelierungsmittel enthalten. Es sind bereits Schmierfette hergestellt
worden, welche amorphe kolloidale Gele, wie SiIiciumdioxydgel, oder Tone oder Oniumtone als Gelierungsmittel
enthalten. Die letzterwähnten Tone sind Tone mit starken basenaustauschenden Eigenschaften,
welche durch Basenaustausch mit oberflächenaktiven Oniumverbindungen, wie quaternären
Ammoniumsalzen oder ihren Phosphonium-, Sulfonium- oder Stiboniumanalogen, in oleophile
Stoffe umgewandelt worden sind. Anorganische Gele erleiden im Gegensatz zu Seifengelen mit
steigender Temperatur keine Phasenveränderungen, sondern behalten ihre ursprüngliche Struktur. Da-
her" ist das Temperaturgebiet, in welchem Schmierfette
verwendet werden können, die ein anorganisches Gelierungsmittel enthalten, nicht durch den
Erweichungspunkt des Schmierfettes bestimmt, sondiernistvielmehrabhängig
von derStabüitätwnidFlüchtigkeit
der flüssigen Komponente des Schmierfettes. Bei Hochtemperaturschmierfetten, welche anorganische
Gelierungsmittel enthalten, können als flüssige Phase entweder mineralische Schmieröle
ίο oder synthetische Flüssigkeiten verwendet werden.
Da die Flüchtigkeit eine der die Grenzen bestimmenden Eigenschaften ist, muß natürlich jedes bei
hohen Temperaturen zu verwendende Schmierfett einen- größeren Anteil an- hochsiedender ölartiger
Flüssigkeit enthalten.
Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung .sind Schmierfette, die ihre Struktur und Stabilität auch
bei Temperaturen über 1500, wie sie z. B. in Motorenlagern auftreten, behalten.
Es wurde gefunden, daß Schmierfettmischungen, welche ein anorganisches Gelierungsmittel enthalten,
unerwartet hohe Stabilität bei höheren Temperaturen aufweisen, wenn sie eine wasserstoffabgebende
Substanz und einen wasserstoffübertragenden Katalysator enthalten.
Die in der erfindungsgemäßen Mischung enthaltenen wasserstoffübertragenden Katalysatoren
werden nur bei verhältnismäßig hohen Temperaturen aktiv und bewirken dann eine Übertragung
von Wasserstoff aus dem wasserstoffliefernden Mittel auf die oxydierbaren Komponenten des
Schmierfettes bzw. deren Oxydationsprodukte. Die Wasserstoffübertragung kann also zur Reduktion
von Säuren zu Alkoholen oder anderen unschädlichen Produkten führen oder — noch wahrscheinlicher
— zur Reduktion von Peroxyden, wodurch die autokatalytische Kette des Schmierölabbaues
unterbrochen wird.
Wasserstoffabgebende Verbindungen sind vorzugsweise hochmolekulare organische Verbindungen,
insbesondere cyclische (monocyclische sowie auch polycyclische) Kohlenwasserstoffe oder ihre
Derivate. Vorzugsweise sind die Kohlenwasserstoffe aromatische oder cycloaliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe,
z. B. Naphthene. Typische wasserstoffabgebende Verbindungen sind

Die Zusatzmenge der wasserstoffabgebenden Stoffe beträgt vorzugsweise mindestens 1 Gewichtsprozent
und insbesondere 5 bis 25 Gewichtsprozent, gerechnet auf das Gesamtschmierfett. In den
meisten Fällen dient als wasserstoffabgebende Substanz mehr als eine Verbindung oder ein Gemisch
der obengenannten Verbindungen; man kann aber auch mit einer einzigen wasserstoff abgebenden Verbindung
arbeiten. Bevorzugte Wasserstofflieferanten sind Naphthene und insbesondere solche mit
einem Molgewicht über etwa 200 und vorzugsweise im Bereich von 300 bis 750, wobei diese Verbindungen
sowohl als Wasserstofflieferant als auch als Schmiermittel wirken können. In gewissen
mineralischen Schmierölen, wie Brightstock oder Zylinderöl, kommen Naphthene von Natur aus vor.
Wenn also ein solches Schmieröl als Schmierölgrundlage
in den Schmierfetten gemäß der- Erfindung verwendet wird, ist im allgemeinen die Zugabe
weiterer Wasserstoff lief eranten nicht erforderlich. Wenn die Schmierölgrundlage in den erfindungsgemäßen
Schmierfetten nicht von Natur aus ein wasserstofflieferndes Material enthält, wie es
bei synthetischen Schmierölen der Fall ist, muß ein wasserstoffabgebendes Material zugesetzt werden.
Im letztgenannten Fall sind die in Brightstocks vorhandenen Naphthene geeignete Zusatzmittel.
Nach der für die Erläuterung des Stabilisierurigsvorganges
gegebenen Theorie umfaßt die Wasserstoffübertragung sowohl intramolekulare als inter-
molekulare Reaktionen organischer Verbindungen, bei welchen mit Covalenzen gebundene Wasserstoffatome
den Ort ihrer Bindung wechseln. Zur Herbeiführung dieser Art einer Wasserstoffübertragung
sind zahlreiche Katalysatoren vorgeschlagen worden. Diese Katalysatoren sind in der Technik der
Katalyse gut bekannt. Zum großen Teil umfassen sie kolloidale Stoffe, die vorzugsweise amphotere
Metalle enthalten und Teilcjiengrö'ßen von weniger
als 10 μ, vorzugsweise in der Größenordnung von
2 μ oder darunter, aufweisen.
Typische Wasserstoffübertragungskatalysatoren, welche sich in den erfindungsgemäßen Schmierfetten
als besonders wirksam erwiesen haben, sind insbesondere die aluminiumoxydhaltigen Katalysatoren,
wie Siliciumo'xyd—Aluminiumoxyd, Aluminiumoxyd—Boroxyd, S iliciumoxyd—Zirkonoxyd—Aluminiumoxyd,
Siliciumoxyd—Aluminiumoxyd—Magnesiumoxyd—Boroxyd
und Chromoxyd—Aluminiumoxyd, sowie die aktivierten Tone,
z. B. die durch Säure aktivierten Tone. Die Herstellung von wasserstoffübertragenden Katalysatoren
ist in der Literatur der katalytischen Praxis beschrieben worden und stellt keinen Teil der vorliegenden
Erfindung dar.
Zusätzlich zu den vorstehend erwähnten- Katalysatoren
können andere Stoffe verwendet werden, wie Zinkoxyd, anorganische Zinksalze, z. B. Zinkcarbonat,
und Stoffe, welche bei den Anwendungstemperaturen der Schmierfette zur Bildung eines
wasserstoffübertragenden Katalysators führen, z.B. Zinkstearat und andere Seifen amphoterer Metalle,
welche vermutlich bei Temperaturen über etwa 2320 zersetzt werden und die entsprechenden
Metalloxyde (vorzugsweise Oxyde amphoterer Metalle) bilden.
Der bevorzugte, in den erfindungsgemäßen Schmierfetten verwendete Katalysator ist Aluminiumoxyd—Siliciumoxyd,
in welchem Siliciumdioxyd in einer Menge zwischen 60 und 90 Gewichtsprozent
der vereinigten Oxyde enthalten ist. Diese als Katalysatoren erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Zusätze,
insbesondere Schwermetallverbindungen (z. B. Zinkcarbonat), können auch entaktivierend auf
freie Radikale wirken und so die Zersetzung der Schmiermittelgrundlage verhindern.
Der wasserstoffübertragende Katalysator kann lediglich in seiner Eigenschaft als Wasserstoffüberträger
oder aber auch außerdem als Gelierungsmittel wirken. So kann der wasserstoffübertragende
Katalysator in den Schmierfetten zusätzlich neben dem Gelierungsmittel vorhanden sein, oder er kann
das Gelierungsmittel teilweise ersetzen oder sogar das einzige Gelierungsmittel darstellen.
Im allgemeinen muß die Menge des Katalysators mindestens 0,0025 Gewichtsprozent, berechnet auf
das Gesamtfett, betragen. Die günstigsten Ergebnisse werden erhalten, wenn der Katalysator in
einer Menge von 1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, berechnet auf die gesamte Schmierfettzusammensetzung,
vorliegt.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Schmierfette können auch die üblichen Oxydationsverhinderer enthalten, so
daß sie nicht nur bei Temperaturen über 1500, sondern auch bei niedrigeren Temperaturen gegen Oxydation
geschützt sind. Zum Beispiel können sie aromatische Amine, wie Phenyl-a-naphthylamin, oder
phenolische Qxydationsverhinderer, wie 1,2-Dioxybenzol,
enthalten. Eine andere zweckmäßige Gruppe von OxydationsVerhinderern umfaßt die Epoxyverbindungen
und insbesondere Glycidylverbindungen, wie Glycidilphenyläther.
Ein noch weitergehender Schutz gegen Abbau bzw. Zersetzung bei erhöhten Temperaturen kann
durch die Einverleibung von Metallsulfiden, wie Zinksulfid, Kupfersulfid oder Woframsulfid, in die
vorliegenden Schmierfette erzielt werden.
In den erfindungsgemäßen Gemischen ist das anorganische Gelierungsmittel gewöhnlich ein Kolloid.
Es muß in ausreichender Menge vorliegen, um die Schmierölgrundlage zur Schmierfettkonsistenz zu
verdicken. Im allgemeinen ist zu diesem Zweck eine Menge von mindestens 1 Gewichtsprozent erforderlich.
Beispiele geeigneter Gelierungsmittel sind Oxyde (z. B. Siliciumoxyd oder andere anorganische
Gele saurer Oxyde, Magnesiumoxyd, Kalk), Tone, oberflächlich verestertes Siliciumdioxyd
und Oniumtone. Durch die kombinierte Verwendung von Siliciumdioxyd mit einem kleineren
Anteil eines Erdalkalimetalloxyds, wie Magnesiumoxyd oder Kalk, erhält man Schmierfette mit verbesserten
Korrosionseigenschaften.
Das bei den erfindungsgemäßen Schmierfetten verwendete Schmieröl kann natürlichen oder synthetischen
Ursprungs sein. Besonders brauchbare mineralische öle sind Rückstandsöle, welche gewöhnlich
unter der Bezeichnung Zylinderöl oder Brightstock bekannt sind. Sie weisen vorzugsweise
einen Gehalt an aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen von weniger als 15 Gewichtsprozent und eine Viskosität
von 1250 bis 11 000 Saybolt-Sekunden bei
37,8° auf.
Brightstocks, die besonders zur Verwendung in den erfindungsgemäßen Gemischen geeignet sind,
haben die in der nachstehenden Tabelle durch Bereiche angegebenen Eigenschaften:

Synthetische Schmiermittel, welche im vorliegenden Rahmen verwendet werden kennen, umfassen
insbesondere die Schmiermittel vom Estertyp und die aliphatischen Polyäther. Für die beanspruchten
Hochtemperaturschmierfette sollten solche Verbindungen ausgewählt werden, die im Temperaturverwendungsbereich
des Schmierfettes eine geeignete Viskosität aufweisen, und vorzugsweise sollten sie
eine Verdampfungsgeschwindigkeit von weniger als etwa 5 % bei 2040 während 8 Stunden aufweisen.
Geeignete Verbindungen sind z. B. die Dialkylester von Dicarbonsäuren, wobei diese Säuren 4 bis
■16 Kohlenstoff atome zwischen den Carboxylgruppen aufweisen und der Alkoholanteil der genannten
Ester sich von einwertigen oder mehrwertigen Alkoholen mit mindestens etwa 4 Kohlenstoff-
atomen und vorzugsweise von 6 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen
ableitet, z. B. Sebacinsäure-bis-(2-äthylhexyl)
-ester. Geeignete phosphorsäurehaltige Ester - umfassen nicht nur organische Phosphate, sondern
auch Phosphonate und Phosphinate. Auch die entsprechenden Phosphinoxyde sind geeignet. Geeignete
Phosphorsäureester sind z.B. Trikresylphosphat, Trioctylphosphat, Diphenylkresylphosphat,
Diphenyloctylphosphat, Dinonylisöoctenphosphonat und Bis-(phosphonäthyl)-äther. Geeignete siliciumhaltige
Ester sind z. B. die Trialkylsilikate, in welchen jede Alkylgruppe 2 bis 8 Kohlenstoff atome
aufweist, wie Kieselsäuretetrabutylester undKieselsäuretetra-2-äthylhexylester.
Die Thiaalkylsilikate [z. B. Kieselsäure-tetra-(7-methyl-4-thiaoctyl)-ester]
sind ebenfalls verwendbar und verleihen den diese Stoffe enthaltenden Schmierfetten besondere
Hochdruckeigenschaften.
Um die Stabilität der erfindungsgemäßen Gemische gegen thermische oder oxydierende Zersetzung
aufzuzeigen, werden dreierlei Prüfmethoden verwendet. Nach dem ersten Test wird ein Film
des Schmierfettes in einer Dicke von etwa 0,033 cm . auf einer mit Sandstrahlgebläse behandelten Stahlplatte
ausgebreitet und 6 Stunden in umlaufender Luft auf 2040 gehalten. Ein Schmierfett, welches
einen Brightstock mit etwa 16 Gewichtsprozent Naphthenen und 10 Gewichtsprozent Silicium-•
dioxyd—Aerogel enthält, oxydiert unter diesen Bedingungen
zu einem harten Lack. Wenn dieses Schmierfett, welches aber noch' zusätzlich 5 °/o Zinkpxyd,
Zinkstearat, Aluminiumoxyd oder Aluminiumoxyd—Boroxyd
enthält, unter diesen Bedingungen erhitzt, wird, so bleibt der Schmierfilm
plastisch und ist im wesentlichen im Vergleich zu seinem Zustand bei Beginn der Prüfung unverändert.
Ein zweiter Test zur Untersuchung der Schmierfette besteht darin, daß eine verdünnte Schmierfettzusammensetzung
in einer Dornte-Oxydationseinrichtung auf i8o° erhitzt wird, um die Geschwindigkeit
der Sauerstoffabsorption in Anwesenheit eines Eisenkatalysators zu bestimmen. Zu· diesem
Zweck werden die Schmierfette mit zusätzlichen Mengen des gleichen Schmieröls, welches im ursprünglichen
Schmierfett verwendet- worden ist, verdünnt, so daß man einen flüssigen Zustand erreicht,
welcher das Hindurchführen von Sauerstoff 'in Bläschenform ermöglicht. Unter den beschriebenen
Bedingungen erforderte ein flüssiges Schmierfett, welches 2 Gewichtsprozent Siliciumdioxyd und
Brightstock enthielt, hur i,r Stunden, um 1500 ecm
Sauerstoff zu absorbieren. Eine ähnliche Mischung, die aber durch die Anwesenheit von 10 Gewichtsprozent
Zinkcarbonat modifiziert war, blieb im Vergleich zu der keinen Oxydationsverhinderer enthaltenden
Mischung annähernd während der sechsfachen Zeit stabil.
Ein dritter Test zur Prüfung der Stabilität der erfindungsgemäßen Gemische besteht darin, daß das
Schmierfett in einem Prüflager bei 2040 verwendet wird, bis die Schmierung versagt (was sich in
starkem Geräusch oder Festfressen des Lagers äußert). Bei diesem Text wird das Prüf lager
Stunden bei Raumtemperatur in Betrieb gehalten, und dann wird die Arbeitstemperatur 10 Stunden
auf 2040 erhöht. Die Maschine wird dann während 10 Stunden stillgesetzt, und darauf wird
die Prüfung wiederholt. Unter diesen Bedingungen arbeitete ein Schmierfett,; das Siliciumdioxyd und
Brightstock enthielt (mit 10 Gewichtsprozent Siliciumdioxyd), nur während etwa 4 bis 6 Prüfstünden.
Der Zusatz von 10 Gewichtsprozent Zinkearbonat
ergab eine 200- bis 300°/oige Steigerung der Wirkungsdauer. ' .
Ähnliche Ergebnisse wurden auch erhalten durch Einverleibung von 5 Gewichtsprozent Aluminium-.oxyd
oder Boroxyd—Aluminiumoxyd in Schmierfette auf Brightstockbasis, die mit 10 Gewichtsprozent
eines Siliciumdioxyd—Aerogels geliert waren.
Claims (3)
- PATENTANSPRÜCHE:I. Schmierfett, bestehend aus einer Schmierölgrundlage, insbesondere aus einem mineralisehen Schmieröl, vorzugsweise einem Brightstock, und einem anorganischen Gelierungsmittel, wie Siliciumdioxyd oder Oniumton, vorzugsweise in einer Menge-von mindestens -i Gewichtsprozent, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es 9» eine wasserstoffliefernde Substanz, wie einen cycloaliphatischen oder naphthenischen Kohlenwasserstoff, vorzugsweise in einer Menge von mindestens 1 Gewichtsprozent und insbesondere in einer Menge von 5 bis 25 Gewichtsprozent, und einen wasserstoffübertragenden Katalysator, vorzugsweise in einer Menge von mindestens 0,0025 Gewichtsprozent und insbesondere in einer Menge von 1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, enthält, wobei die Mengenangaben auf das Ge- 10a samtfett berechnet sind.
- 2. Schmierfett nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Katalysator ein mit Säure aktivierter Ton oder ein aluminiumhaltiges Oxydgemisch verwendet wird.
- 3. Schmierfett nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Katalysator eine zinkhaltige Verbindung, wie Zinköxyd, oder ein anorganisches Zinksalz, wie Zinkcarbonat, oder ein Stoff, der sich bei Temperaturen über 2300 unter Bildung von Zinkoxyd zersetzt, verwendet wird.Angezogene Druckschriften:Deutsche Patentschriften Nr. 878 832, 872 625, 723, 864 722.509 664 2.56
