Description
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf stabile Tieftemperatur-Schmierfette
und insbesondere auf Lithiumseifen - Schmierfette, welche als ölgrundlage ein
Kohlenwasserstofföl mit einer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante über 0,84 und einem Stockpunkt unter
— 500 enthalten.
Die Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante ist eine willkürliche Konstante, welche aus der Saybolt-Universalviskosität
eines Öls und seinem spezifischen Gewicht berechnet wird. Der Wert dieser Konstanten erhöht
sich mit dem Naphthengehalt und erniedrigt sich mit dem Paraffingehalt des Öls (vgl. den Aufsatz von
C. Walther in »öl und Kohle« 1936, S. 221 bis 229
und den Aufsatz von Hill und Coats in Vol. 22, 1928, pp. 641 bis 644. Ind. Eng. Chem. mit dem
Titel »Viscosity Gravity Constant of Petroleum Lubricating Oils«). Pensylvanische öle, welche typische
paraffinische öle darstellen, haben eine Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante
von etwa 0,80, während typische naphthenische öle eine solche über etwa 0,84 bis zu
etwa 0,90 haben.
Untersuchungen über die Fließeigenschaften von Schmierfetten bei niedrigen Temperaturen haben
in der Vergangenheit gezeigt, daß das Fließen von Schmierfetten in erster Linie eine Funktion der Viskosität
des Öls bei dieser Temperatur ist und in geringerem Umfang eine Funktion der Menge und
der Art der verwendeten Seife. Da öle mit niedriger Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante sich bei einer bestimmten
Änderung der Temperatur bezüglich der Viskositat weniger ändern als öle mit höherer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante,
sind bisher öle mit niedriger Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante für tiefe Temperaturen
verwendet worden.
Bezüglich des Einflusses der Seife ist bekannt, daß verhältnismäßig geringe Mengen von Seife zur Er-
haltung der Fließeigenschaften des Öls vorzuziehen sind und daß Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette bei tiefen
Temperaturen bessere Fließeigenschaften haben als vergleichbare, mit anderen Seifen hergestellte Schmierfette,
Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette müssen zur Vermeidung des übermäßigen Gelierens freie Fettsäure enthalten.
Derartige Tieftemperatur-Schmierfette, wie sie bisher unter Verwendung von ölen mit S.-U.-Viskositäten
unter ioo Sek. bei 37° hergestellt worden sind, enthalten normalerweise mindestens etwa 0,5 °/0 freie
Säure, berechnet als Stearinsäure.
Man hält es gewöhnlich für erforderlich, daß die Tieftemperatur-Schmierfette eine Konsistenz zwischen
etwa 200 und 370 Penetration (A. S. T. M.) bei 250 haben sollen. Unter tiefen Temperaturen werden in
vorliegender Beschreibung Temperaturen bis herunter zu etwa — 750 verstanden.
Es ist nun gefunden worden, daß verbesserte Tieftemperatur-Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette
besser unter Verwendung eines naphthenischen Öls anstatt eines paraffinischen Öls hergestellt werden können. Die
Tief temperatur-Schmierfette nach der Erfindung bestehen im wesentlichen aus einem Kohlenwasserstofföl
mit einer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante über 0,84 und einem Stockpunkt unter — 50° und enthalten
zwischen etwa 3 und 10 Gewichtsprozent einer Lithiumseife einer Fettsäure von 12 oder mehr Kohlenstoffatomen,
zwischen etwa 0,01 und 0,5 °/0 einer freien Fettsäure mit 12 oder mehr Kohlenstoffatomen
und zwischen etwa 0,01 und 2 Gewichtsprozent eines Antioxydationsmittels.
Die neuen Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette nach der
Erfindung unterscheiden sich von den bisherigen Seifenschmierfetten mit gleicher Konsistenz und
gleich guten physikalischen Eigenschaften darin, daß die Schmierfette nach der Erfindung nur etwa die
Hälfte der Seifenmenge und weniger als ein Viertel der Menge an freier Fettsäure benötigen, wie sie bisher
bei Lithiumseifen-Tieftemperatur-Schmierfetten verwendet worden sind.
Die verringerte Menge der bei den erfindungsgemäßen Schmierfetten verwendeten Lithiumseife
stellt einen wesentlichen wirtschaftlichen Vorteil dar, da Lithiumseife sehr teuer ist. Außerdem hat die
verringerte Menge der Seife den Vorteil, daß die Fließeigenschaften des im Schmierfett enthaltenen
Öls besser erhalten bleiben als in den bekannten Tieftemperatur-Lithium-Schmierfetten,
welche im wesentliehen aus einem öl mit niedriger Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante
und einer größeren Menge Lithiumseife bestehen als bei den Schmierfetten nach der Erfindung.
Die Menge der freien Fettsäure in den neuen Schmierfetten
ist insofern von entscheidender Bedeutung, als ein Überschuß an Säure über die angegebene Menge
hinaus das Schmierfett zu weich macht. Wenn das Schmierfett zu weich ist, muß mehr Seife zugesetzt
werden, wodurch einer der Hauptvorteile der Erfindung verlorengeht, nämlich die Anwendung einer
geringeren Seifenmenge.
Diese Unterschiede und Vorteile der Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette nach der Erfindung beruhen auf dem
eigenartigen und unerwarteten Einfluß naphthenischer Mineralöle mit einer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante
über 0,84 auf die Fähigkeit der Lithiumseife, ein Schmierfett von einer bestimmten Konsistenz zu erzeugen.
Mit den zur Herstellung der Tieftemperatur-Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette
nach der Erfindung verwendeten Bestandteilen können beständige, glatte
und homogene Schmierfette erzeugt werden. Die Erfindung umfaßt auch Schmierfette, welche den
scharfen Anforderungen des Heeres- und Marinefiugwesens entsprechen (Army and Navy Aeronautical
Specification AN-G-3). Die Schmierfette haben im Temperaturbereich zwischen etwa — 75 und + 1500
günstige Schmiereigenschaften.
Die folgende Zusammenstellung gibt in der letzten Spalte bevorzugte Bereiche für die Mengenanteile
der Bestandteile der Schmierfette, während in der zweiten Spalte die schon vorstehend erwähnten
weiteren Bereiche angegeben sind.

Schmierfette mit der vorstehend angegebenen Zusammensstzung
haben eine Konsistenz zwischen etwa 200 und 370, gemessen mit dem A. S. T. M. Penetrometer.
Geeignete Lithiumseifen bestehen im wesentlichen oder enthalten überwiegend Lithiumsalze von Fettsäuren
mit 12 oder mehr Kohlenstoffatomen. Zusätzlich zu der Lithiumseife können die Schmierfette
geringere Mengen fettsaurer Salze anderer Metalle insbesondere von Na, K, Ca, Ba, Zn, Al usw., enthalten.
Gesättigte Fettsäuren, die zur Herstellung der Lithiumseife und auch als freie Fettsäure im Schmierfett
bevorzugt verwendet werden, sind z. B. Laurin-, Myristin-, Palmitin-, Stearin-, Arachin-, Behen-,
Oxystearinsäure usw. Als ungesättigte Fettsäuren kommen ölsäure, Ricinolsäure usw. in Betracht. no
Lithiumseifen können nach üblichen Verfahren hergestellt werden, z. B. durch Verseifen verschiedener
Fette oder Fettsäuren mit Lithiumoxyd oder -hydroxyd. Gewünschtenfalls kann diese Verseifung
von Fetten oder Fettsäuren mit Lithiumoxyd bzw. -hydroxyd auch in Anwesenheit von Oxyden oder
Hydroxyden eines oder mehrerer der oben angegebenen Metalle durchgeführt werden.
Die freie Fettsäure kann in der Seife enthalten sein, wenn diese durch Umsetzung einer Fettsäure mit
einer etwas geringeren Menge Lithiumoxyd- oder -hydroxyd, als zum Neutralisieren der Fettsäure
erforderlich ist, hergestellt wurde. Die freie Säure kann aber auch später entweder zu der Seife oder zu
dem Schmierfett nach Vermischen von öl und Seife zugegeben werden.
Zwecks Erzeugung eines oxydationsbeständigen Schmierfettes ist ein Antioxydationsmittel wesentlich.
Manche Schmierölantioxydationsmittel sind in den Schmierfetten nach der Erfindung wirksamer als
andere. Speziell ist festgestellt worden, daß N-Alkylp-phenylendiamine
und kondensierte, mehrkernige, aromatische Monoamine am wirksamsten sind. Die N-Alkyl-p-phenylendiamine haben den Vorteil, daß
sie die Oxydationsbeständigkeit und die Lebensdauer ίο des Schmierfettes ganz wesentlich erhöhen. Solche
Antioxydationsmittel sind N-Butyl-p-phenylendiamin, N-N'-Dibutyl-p-phenylendiamin usw. Die kondensierten,
mehrkernigen, aromatischen Monoamine ergeben ein Schmierfett, welches keine so lange Lebensdauer
hat wie ein mit der gleichen Menge N-Alkyl-pphenylendiamin
hergestelltes Produkt. Solche Antioxydationsmittel sind a- oder /J-Naphthylamin, Phenyl-a-
oder -ß-naphthylamin, α-α-, ß-ß- oder a-ß-Dinaphthylamin
usw. Einige dieser Antioxydationsmittel haben den Vorteil, daß sie die Konsistenz des
Schmierfettes etwas erhöhen. Andere geeignete Antioxydationsmittel sind gemischte Erdölalkylphenole,
welche von etwa 200 bis 240° sieden.
Einige in den Schmierfetten nach der Erfindung weniger wirksame Antioxydationsmittel sind Diphenylamin,
Tetramethylaminodiphenylmethan, 2, 4-Di-tert.-butyl-6-methylphenol
und einige Schwefel und Phosphor enthaltende Antioxydationsmittel.
Die zur Herstellung der Tieftemperatur-Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette nach der Erfindung geeigneten
naphthenischen Mineralöle sind, wie erwähnt, solche mit niedriger Viskosität, niedrigem Stockpunkt und
einer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante über 0,84. Solche öle sind im allgemeinen Schmieröle, welche aus GoIfküsten-,
kalifornischen, Venezuela- und ähnlichen Rohölen erhalten worden sind. Der Stockpunkt muß
unter etwa — 500 liegen, und die Saybolt-Universal-Viskosität
bei 370 muß gewöhnlich weniger als 100 Sek.,
vorzugsweise zwischen etwa 50 und 90 Sek. betragen.

zu leicht, um als Schmieröle betrachtet werden zu können.
Andere Bestandteile, die noch zugesetzt werden können, sind Korrosionsverhinderer, Hochdruckzusatzmittel,
Abnutzung verhindernde Mittel, Stabilisatoren, Viskositätsindexverbesserer u. dgl., soweit
sie die Wirksamkeit des Schmierfettes bei tiefer Temperatur und die Oxydationsbeständigkeit nicht stören.
Einige verwendbare Hochdruckzusatzmittel sind Ester von Säuren des Phosphors, wie Triaryl-, Alkyloxyaryl-
oder Aralkylphosphate, -thiophosphate oder -phosphite usw.; neutrale aromatische Schwefelverbindungen
mit verhältnismäßig hohem Siedepunkt, wie Diarylsulfide, Diaryldisulfide, Alkylaryldisulfide,
z. B. Diphenylsulfid, Diphenolsulfid, Dikresolsulfid, Dixylenolsulfid, Methylbutyldiphenolsulfid,
Dibenzylsulfid, entsprechende Di- und Trisulfide usw.; geschwefelte fette öle oder Ester von
Fettsäuren und einwertigen Alkoholen, z. B. Spermöl, Jojobaöl usw., in welchen der Schwefel stark
gebunden ist; geschwefelte langkettige Olefine, wie sie durch Dehydrieren oder Spalten von Paraffinen
erhalten werden können; geschwefelte phosphorierte fette öle oder Säuren, Ester von Säuren des
Phosphors, welche geschwefelte organische Reste enthalten, wie Ester der Phosphorsäure oder phosphorigen
Säure mit geschwefelten Oxyfettsäuren; chlorierte Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie chlorierte Paraffine,
aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, Terpene, mineralische Schmieröle usw., oder chlorierte Ester von Fettsäuren,
j welche das Chlor in einer anderen Stellung als der α-Stellung enthalten.
Als zusätzliche Bestandteile außer den Hochdruckzusatzstoffen kommen die Abnutzung verhindernde
Mittel in Betracht, wie öllösliche Harnstoff- oder Thioharnstoffderivate, z. B. Urethane, Allophanate,
Carbazide, Carbazone usw.; oder Kautschuk, Polyisobutylen, Polyvinylester und andere hochmolekulare,
öllösliche Polymeren, welche die Beständigkeit des Schmierfettes erhöhen; Stockpunkterniedriger,
welche den Stockpunkt des Öls noch weiter herabsetzen; Stabilisatoren, welche das Bluten verringern,
wie Glycerin (weniger als 0,1 Gewichtsprozent); Viskositätsindexverbesserer, wie" Polyisobutylene
mit Molgewichten über etwa 800, voltolisierte Paraffine und polymerisiert^ Ester aus Fettsäuren
und ungesättigten einwertigen Alkoholen.
Zwecks Herstellung eines Tieftemperatur-Schmierfettes nach der Erfindung wurde zunächst in einem
offenen Kessel aus Lithiumstearat und einem Destillatöl mit einer Saybolt-Universal-Viskosität von 62 Sek.
bei 37°, einem Stockpunkt von — 6o° und einer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante von 0,8468 ein Schlamm
hergestellt. Der Schlamm wurde ständig gerührt und auf eine Temperatur von etwa 1900 erhitzt. Bei dieser
Temperatur wurde Phenyl -α - naphthylamin zum Schmierfett zugesetzt. Die Temperatur des entstehenden
Gemisches wurde dann während eines Zeitraumes von etwa 15 Minuten zwischen etwa 195 und
205 ° gehalten. Darauf wurde das Schmierfett aus dem Kessel abgezogen und so rasch wie möglich in
offenen Pfannen von 2,5 cm Tiefe abgekühlt. Das gekühlte Schmierfett wurde dann bearbeitet, um
etwa darin vorhandene Klumpen zu beseitigen. Die Mengen der Bestandteile waren derart, daß sich folgende
Zusammensetzung des Schmierfettes ergab:

Phenyl-a-naphthylamin .. . 0,20

Dieses Schmierfett war glatt, nicht korrodierend, hell gefärbt, homogen und hatte eine Konsistenz von
etwa 275, gemessen mit dem A.-S.-T.-M.-Schmierfettpenetrometer. Nach 50 Stunden hatte es durch
Bluten weniger als 1,5 % verloren, und es erwies sich bei der Prüfung als wirksames Schmiermittel bei
Temperaturen bis herunter zu — 55°.
In ähnlicher Weise wurden acht andere Muster derartiger Lithiumseifen-Schmierfette hergestellt. Diese 1*5
enthielten 1. kein Amin, 2. o,i °/0 und 3. 0,25 °/0
Phenyl-a-naphthylamin, 4· ο,1 °/ο un<i 5· °>25 °/ο
Phenyl-yS-naphthylamin, 6. ο,ΐ °/ο N-N'-Dibutyl-pphenylendiamin,
7. 0,1 % und 8. 0,25 °/ο Alkylphenole, welche zwischen 200 und 2200 sieden. Diese acht
Proben wurden nach dem 100-Stunden-Norma-Hoffmann-Oxydationstest auf Oxydationsbeständigkeit
geprüft. Diese Prüfung wird wie folgt durchgeführt: Eine Probe des Schmierfettes wird unter einem Anfangsdruck
von 7,7 kg/cm2 Sauerstoff in eine Bombe eingeführt und die Bombe in ein Bad von 990 gebracht.
Der Druck wird mit einem Manometer gemessen. Es wird die Zeit festgestellt, welche erforderlich
ist, um ein Abfallen des Drucks infolge Sauerstoffadsorption durch das Schmierfett herbeizuführen.
Die folgende Tabelle zeigt die mit diesem Muster erhaltenen Resultate.

Die zulässigen Grenzen für die Oxydationsbestän- | digkeit nach den obenerwähnten Bestimmungen des
Heeres- und Marineluftfahrtwesens liegen für Tief- ! temperatur-Schmierfette bei 0,35 kg/cm2 Druckabfall
nach ioostündiger Oxydation. Die Muster 2, 3, 5, 6 und 8 entsprechen also diesen Anforderungen.
Die Tieftemperatur-Schmierfette nach der Erfindung sind insbesondere anwendbar für die Schmierung
von Mechanismen einschließlich der Kugellager, welche in kaltem Klima verwendet^ werden, sowie
auch für die Schmierung von Transporteinrichtungen einschließlich der Flugzeuge, welche innerhalb kurzer
Zeiträume zwischen tropischen Temperaturen, bei Meeresniveau und bei Temperaturen unter Null in
größeren Höhen arbeiten müssen.
Claims (4)
- PATENTANSPRÜCHE:i. Tief temperatur-Schmierfette, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie aus Kohlenwasserstoffölen mit einer Viskosität-Dichte-Konstante über 0,84 und einem Stockpunkt unter — 500 als Mineralölgrundlage, einer Lithiumseife mit 12 oder mehr Kohlen-stoffatomen im Molekül in einer Menge von etwa 3 bis 10 %, vorzugsweise 6 bis 9 Gewichtsprozent, einer freien Fettsäure mit 12 oder mehr Kohlenstoffatomen in einer Menge von etwa 0,01 bis 0,5 °/o, vorzugsweise 0,03 bis 0,2 Gewichtsprozent, und einem Antioxydationsmittel in einer Menge von etwa 0,01 bis 2 0J0, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 1 Gewichtsprozent, bestehen.
- 2. Tieftemperatur-Schmierfette nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Lithiumseife Lithiumstearat ist.
- 3. Tief tempera tür-Schmierfette nach Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Kohlenwasserstofföle eine Saybolt - Universal -Viskosität von weniger als 100 Sek. bei 37°, vorzugsweise zwischen etwa 50 und 90 Sek., besitzen.
- 4. Tief temperatur-Schmierfette nach Anspruch 1bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Antioxydationsmittel ein am Stickstoff alkyliertes p-Phenylendiamin, z. B. N-N'-Dibutyl-p-phenylendiamin, oder ein kondensiertes, mehrkerniges, aromatisches Monoamin, z. B. Phenyl-a- oder -/J-naphthylamin, ist.1 5368 9.52
