Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft neue, phosphorhaltige Härter für Epoxidharze, die gleichzeitig härtende und flammhemmende Wirkungen entfalten.
- Handelsübliche Epoxidharze sind im wesentlichen flüssige, viskose, glasige oder auch kristalline Substanzen, die vor ihrer Anwendung mit geeigneten Härtern versetzt und gegebenenfalls noch mit Lösungsmitteln, reaktiven Verdünnern (viskositätserniedrigenden Epoxidharzen), Weichmachern, Füllstoffen oder Pigmenten modifiziert werden. Als Härter werden beispielsweise Dicarbonsäureanhydride oder Aminhärter wie zum Beispiel Diethylentriamin verwendet. Es gibt Epoxidharz-Härter-Systeme, die bei Raumtemperatur sofort, unmittelbar nach dem Zusammenbringen von Epoxidharz und Härter aushärten, und es gibt Systeme, die erst nach einer bestimmten "offenen Zeit" nach dem Zusammenbringen von Epoxidharz und Härter oder erst nach Überschreiten einer relativ hohen Temperatur aushärten. Weil die Härtungswirkung bei den zuletzt genannten Systemen erst mit einer gewissen Verzögerung eintritt, werden die dafür verwendeten Härter gelegentlich auch als "latente Härter" bezeichnet.
- Die für viele Verwendungszwecke vorgeschriebene Flammfestmachung von Epoxidharzen wurde ursprünglich durch Einarbeitung von herkömmlichen Flammschutzmitteln wie zum Beispiel Antimontrioxid oder hochbromierten organischen Verbindungen in die Epoxidharz-Zusammensetzungen bewerkstelligt (vgl. zum Beispiel "International Plastics Flammability Handbook", 2. Auflage, Carl Hanser Verlag, München, 1990). Abgesehen von den toxikologischen Risiken, führt die Verwendung solcher traditioneller Flammschutzmittel-Zuschläge zu einer dramatischen Verschlechterung der mechanischen und physikalischen Eigenschaften der damit ausgerüsteten Epoxidharze. Es ist deshalb auch schon lange bekannt, reaktive Flammschutzmittel zu verwenden, die an das Polymergerüst des Epoxidharzes chemisch gebunden werden, wie zum Beispiel das als "DOP" bekannte 10-Oxo-10H-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren, das auch als 9,10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren-10-oxid bezeichnet werden kann (vgl. EP-B1-0 806 429, Patentanspruch 24).

- Die vorstehend beschriebene Flammfestmachung von Epoxidharzen mit DOP ist jedoch für viele Anwendungsfälle aus folgenden Gründen unzureichend:
- – Zur normgerechten Flammschutzausrüstung von Epoxidharzen ist ein Phosphorgehalt von mehr als 2,2 Gew.-%, bezogen auf die Gesamtmasse des ausgerüsteten und gehärteten Epoxidharzes, erforderlich. Um diesen Phosphorgehalt zu erreichen, müßte der DOP-Anteil mindestens 60 % des modifizierten Harzes ausmachen.
- – Ein derart hoher Anteil an Flammschutzmittel führt zu einer Verringerung der Glasübergangstemperatur (Tg). Je nach Epoxidharz lassen sich damit nur Glasübergangstemperaturen von weniger als 150°C erreichen, dynamisch gemessen durch "DSC", das heißt Dynamic Scanning Calometry. Eine für solche Systeme typische Tg beträgt etwa 135°C (DSC). Epoxidharze, die zur Herstellung von Leiterplattensubstraten oder für andere elektronische Zwecke, zum Beispiel als Gießharze oder Einbettmassen, verwendet werden sollen, müssen aber im Hinblick auf die heute üblichen bleifreien Lötzinn-Zusammensetzungen, die Schmelzpunkte zwischen etwa 185 und 205°C aufweisen, eine Glasübergangstemperatur von mindestens 150°C, vorzugsweise von mehr als 160 oder 165°C (DSC) besitzen.
- – DOP ist nur für einige wenige Epoxidharze als direkt an die Glycidylgruppen bindendes Flammschutzmittel einsetzbar. Schon bei geringfügiger Änderung der chemischen Struktur des Harzes, beispielsweise beim Übergang von Phenolnovolak-Harzen auf Kresolnovolak-Harze, können Inkompatibilitätsprobleme auftreten.
- Aus der DE-OS-100 06 592 sind "latente" Kombinationsverbindungen aus Aminhärtern für Epoxidharze und Flammschutzmitteln wie zum Beispiel DOP sowie deren Verwendung zur Herstellung gehärteter, flammfest ausgerüsteter Epoxidharze bekannt, die sich, wenn sie als Einkomponentensystem vorliegen, durch eine offene Zeit von mehreren Stunden auszeichnen, in denen eine Härtung nicht eintritt, oder die nur dann aushärten, wenn eine bestimmte, relativ hohe Schwellentemperatur überschritten wird. Bei diesen bekannten latenten Härtern ist das – Stickstoffatom der Aminogruppe eines Aminhärters direkt an das Phosphoratom von DOP gebunden.
- Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, neue Härter für Epoxidharze, die gleichzeitig härtende und flammhemmende Wirkungen haben, bereitzustellen, die entweder allein oder als Cohärter zu einem für die Flammschutzausrüstung geforderten Phosphorgehalt von mindestens 2,2 Gew.-% im gehärteten Epoxidharz führen, ohne die Glasübergangstemperatur Tg des Harzes auf einen Wert unter 150°C (DSC) absinken zu lassen.
- Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß gelöst durch einen Härter für Epoxidharze, der erhältlich ist durch
- A) Addition mindestens eines Aldehyds oder Ketons der Formel I worin R1 und R2, unabhängig voneinander, ein Wasserstoffatom, gegebenenfalls substituiertes C1-C8-Alkyl, Aryl, Alkaryl oder Aralkyl bedeuten, an mindestens ein Phosphonigsäure-Derivat der Formel II worin R3 und R4, unabhängig voneinander, gegebenenfalls substituiertes C1-C8-Alkyl, Cycloalkyl, Aryl, Alkaryl, Aralkyl, Heteroaryl oder R3 und R4 gemeinsam ein ein- oder mehrkerniges, gegebenenfalls substituiertes aromatisches oder nicht-aromatisches Ringsystem darstellen, (erste Stufe) und
- B) anschließende Kondensation des in der ersten Stufe erhaltenen Addukts mit mindestens einer Diamino- oder Polyamino-Verbindung (zweite Stufe).
- Es hat sich überraschenderweise gezeigt, daß sich bei Verwendung der erfindungsgemäßen Härter zur Härtung und Flammfestmachung von Epoxidharzen der zur normgerechten Flammschutzausrüstung erforderliche Phosphorgehalt von mindestens 2,2 Gew.-% ohne eine schädliche Verminderung der Glasübergangstemperatur des Harzes auf unter 150°C erreichen läßt. Es wurde im Gegenteil eine Steigerung der Glasübergangstemperatur auf bis zu 170°C (DSC) bei einem Phosphorgehalt des Harzes von etwa 3 Gew.-% festgestellt. Dadurch läßt sich das Bedürfnis nach halogenfreien, flammfesten und gehärteten Epoxidharz-Systemen befriedigen, die insbesondere zur Herstellung von Leiterplattensubstraten und anderen elektronischen Bauteilen, die mit hochschmelzendem, bleifreiem Lötzinn in Berührung kommen, verwendet werden können.
- Für die erfindungsgemäßen Härter ist als Aldehyd vorzugsweise Formaldehyd, Paraformaldehyd, eine Formaldehyd abspaltende Verbindung wie 1,3,5-Trioxan oder ein gegebenenfalls substituierter Benzaldehyd verwendbar, während als Keton vorzugsweise ein gegebenenfalls substituiertes Acetophenon oder Benzophenon verwendbar ist.
- Als Diamino- oder Polyamino-Verbindung ist vorzugsweise Ethylendiamin, 4,4'-Diamino-diphenylmethan, 4,4'-Diamino-diphenylsulfon (DDS), Harnstoff oder Melamin verwendbar.
- Die Additionsreaktion in der ersten Stufe der Herstellung des erfindungsgemäßen Härters ist vorzugsweise bei einer Temperatur von 50 bis 150°C durchführbar, während die Kondensationsreaktion in der zweiten Stufe vorzugsweise bei einer Temperatur von 100 bis 200°C, gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart eines Katalysators, durchführbar ist.
- Als Phosphonigsäure-Derivat ist zur Herstellung des erfindungsgemäßen Härters vorzugsweise die als "DOP" bekannte Verbindung 10-Oxo-10H-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren (= 9,10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthren-10-oxid) verwendbar, oder aber ein DOP und 2'-Hydroxydiphenyl-2-phosphinsäure enthaltendes Gemisch, wie es beispielsweise aus EP-B1-0 833 832 bekannt ist.
- Das Molverhältnis der Komponenten (a) Aldehyd oder Keton, (b) Phosphonigsäure-Derivat und (c) Diamino- oder Polyamino-Verbindung liegt bei der Herstellung des erfindungsgemäßen Härters vorzugsweise zwischen a:b:c = 1:1:1 bis a:b:c = x:x:1, wobei x der Anzahl von Aminogruppen in einem Molekül der Polyamino-Verbindung entspricht.

- Die erfindungsgemäßen Härter können als alleinige Härter oder als Kohärter für Epoxidharze, das heißt zusammen mit mindestens einem anderen Härter für Epoxidharze, verwendet werden, vorzugsweise zusammen mit einem Aminhärter, insbesondere mit einem oder mehreren aus der Gruppe Diethylentriamin, Dimethylaminopropylamin, Isophorondiamin, Dicyandiamid (Cyanoguanidin).
- Besonders vorteilhaft ist die Verwendung des erfindungsgemäßen Härters zur Erhöhung der Glasübergangstemperatur des gehärteten Epoxidharzes auf über 150°C, besonders bevorzugt auf über 165°C, jeweils dynamisch gemessen.
- Ebenfalls besonders vorteilhaft ist die Verwendung des erfindungsgemäßen Härters zur Flammfestausrüstung eines Epoxidharzes, besonders bevorzugt zur Herstellung flammfest ausgerüsteter, gehärteter Epoxidharze mit einem Phosphorgehalt von mindestens 2,2 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise von 2,8 bis 3,2 Gew.-%.
- Gegenstand der Erfindung sind schließlich Epoxidharze, die mit einem erfindungsgemäßen Härter gehärtet und flammfest ausgerüstet sind, wobei es sich bei diesen Epoxidharzen vorzugsweise um Epoxynovolak-Harze handelt.
- Das erfindungsgemäß gehärtete und flammfest ausgerüstete Epoxidharz dient vorzugsweise der Herstellung von Leiterplattensubstraten und anderen Gegenständen auf dem Gebiet der Mikroelektronik, bei denen es wegen des Kontakts mit geschmolzenem bleifreiem Lötzinn, welches üblicherweise einen Schmelzpunkt zwischen etwa 185 und 205°C aufweist, auf eine hohe Glasübergangstemperatur von mindestens 150°C und gleichzeitig auf einen wirksamen Flammschutz besonders ankommt.
- Die Erfindung wird nachfolgend anhand eines Ausführungsbeispiels näher erläutert:
- Beispiel
- Herstellung des Härters
- A) Erste Stufe
- 40 g (185 mmol) DOP wurden auf 130°C erhitzt. 15 g Formalinlösung (37 %ig) wurden bei dieser Temperatur innerhalb von 45 Minuten unter Rühren tropfenweise zugegeben. Nach weiteren 30 Minuten entstand ein weißer Festkörper, der bei ca. 140°C zu schmelzen begann.
- B) Zweite Stufe
- Das in der ersten Stufe entstandene Addukt wurde weiter erhitzt auf etwa 150°C. Zu der entstandenen klaren Lösung wurden 7,8 g Melamin (61,7 mmol) gegeben, und das Gemisch wurde innerhalb von zwei Stunden auf 200°C erhitzt. Das Gemisch wurde so lange bei 200°C gehalten, bis kein Wasser mehr gebildet wurde.
- Härtung und Flammfestmachung eines Epoxidharzes
- 7 g eines Epoxynovolak-Harzes (LER N 740 der Firma LG, Korea; EZ: 0,575 mol/100 g) und 3 g eines Epoxynovolak-Harzes (Ukanol EPUK der Firma Schill + Seilacher, Böblingen; EZ: 0,28 mol/100 g) wurden mit 3 g des erfindungsgemäßen Härters gemäß dem vorstehenden Beispiel auf 160°C erhitzt und so lange gerührt, bis eine klare Lösung entstanden war. Zu dieser Lösung wurden 2,4 g Diaminodiphenylsulfon in fester Form eingetragen und so lange gerührt, bis eine klare Lösung entstanden war. Die Lösung wurde 15 Minuten bei 160°C, dann 30 Minuten bei 175°C und schließlich 3 Stunden lang bei 195°C gehalten und dabei gehärtet. Es entstand ein gelber transparenter Festkörper aus gehärtetem und gleichzeitig flammfest ausgerüstetem Epoxidharz. Die Glasübergangstemperatur des auf diese Weise hergestellten Harzes betrug 170°C (DSC) und wies einen Phosphorgehalt von 2,9 Gew.-% auf. Der so entstandene gehärtete Probenkörper erfüllt die Brandschutznorm UL 94 V-0 der Underwriters' Laboratories (USA).
Claims (23)
- Härter für Epoxidharze, erhältlich durch A) Addition mindestens eines Aldehyds oder Ketons der Formel I worin R1 und R2, unabhängig voneinander ein Wasserstoffatom, gegebenenfalls substituiertes C1-C8-Alkyl, Aryl, Alkaryl oder Aralkyl bedeuten, an mindestens ein Phosphonigsäure-Derivat der Formel II worin R3 und R4, unabhängig voneinander, gegebenenfalls substituiertes C1-C8-Alkyl, Cycloalkyl, Aryl, Alkaryl, Aralkyl, Heteroaryl oder R3 und R4 gemeinsam ein ein- oder mehrkerniges, gegebenenfalls substituiertes aromatisches oder nicht-aromatisches Ringsystem darstellen, (erste Stufe) und B) anschließende Kondensation des in der ersten Stufe erhaltenen Addukts mit mindestens einer Diamino- oder Polyamino-Verbindung (zweite Stufe).
- Härter nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Aldehyd Formaldehyd, Paraformaldehyd, eine Formaldehyd abspaltende Verbindung wie 1,3,5-Trioxan oder ein gegebenenfalls substituierter Benzaldehyd verwendbar ist.
- Härter nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Keton ein gegebenenfalls substituiertes Acetophenon oder Benzophenon verwendbar ist.
- Härter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Additionsreaktion in der ersten Stufe bei einer Temperatur von 50 bis 150°C durchführbar ist.
- Härter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Diamino- oder Polyamino-Verbindung Ethylendiamin, 4,4'-Diaminodiphenylmethan, 4,4'-Diamino-diphenylsulfon (DDS), Harnstoff oder Melamin verwendbar ist.
- Härter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Kondensationsreaktion in der zweiten Stufe bei einer Temperatur von 100 bis 200°C, gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart eines Katalysators, durchführbar ist.
- Härter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Phosphonigsäure-Derivat 10-Oxo-10H-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren (= 9,10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren-10-oxid) ("DOP") oder ein DOP und 2'-Hydroxydiphenyl-2-phosphinsäure enthaltendes Gemisch verwendbar ist.
- Härter nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß er durch Umsetzung der Komponenten (a) Aldehyd oder Keton, (b) Phosphonigsäure-Derivat und (c) Diamino- oder Polyamino-Verbindung in einem Molverhältnis von a:b:c = 1:1:1 bis a:b:c = x:x:1 erhältlich ist, wobei x der Anzahl von Aminogruppen in einem Molekül der Polyamino-Verbindung entspricht.
- Härter nach Anspruch 12, nämlich N,N',N''-Tris-(10-oxo-10H-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren-10-ylmethyl)-[1,3,5]triazin-2,4,6-triamin.
- Verwendung des Härters gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 13 als Cohärter für Epoxidharze, zusammen mit mindestens einem anderen Härter für Epoxidharze.
- Verwendung nach Anspruch 14, zusammen mit einem Aminhärter, insbesondere mit einem oder mehreren aus der Gruppe Diethylentriamin, Dimethylaminopropylamin, Isophorondiamin, Dicyandiamid (Cyanoguanidin).
- Verwendung nach Anspruch 14 oder 15 zur Erhöhung der Glasübergangstemperatur (Tg) eines gehärteten Epoxidharzes auf über 150°C (DSC).
- Verwendung nach Anspruch 16 zur Erhöhung der Glasübergangstemperatur eines gehärteten Epoxidharzes auf über 165°C (DSC).
- Verwendung nach einem der Ansprüche 14 bis 17 zur Flammfestausrüstung eines Epoxidharzes.
- Verwendung nach Anspruch 18 zur Herstellung flammfest ausgerüsteter, gehärteter Epoxidharze mit einem Phosphorgehalt von mindestens 2,2 Gew.-%.
- Verwendung nach Anspruch 19 zur Herstellung flammfest ausgerüsteter gehärteter Epoxidharze mit einem Phosphorgehalt von 2,8 bis 3,2 Gew.-%.
- Epoxidharz, gehärtet und flammfest ausgerüstet mit einem Härter gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 13.
- Epoxidharz nach Anspruch 21, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Epoxynovolak-Harz ist.
- Epoxidharz nach Anspruch 21 oder 22, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Leiterplattensubstrat ist.
