Die p-Carboxyphenylphenylphosphinsäure ist bereits bekannt und
wurde von L.D. Quinn et al. in mäßiger Ausbeute hergestellt (L.D. Quinn et al., J. org. Chem. 27, 4120 (1962)):

Dabei muß das Umsetzungsprodukt von Phenyldichlorphosphin mit
p-Cyanophenyldiasioniumtetrafluorborat einer Reduktion mit Aluminium
unterworfen v/erden, damit das p-Cyanopheny.lphenylchlorphosphin

deutschen Offenlegungsschrift 2.118.223 (entsprechend der US-Patentschrift
Nr. 3.705.214) bekannt, Phosphorverbindungen der allgemeinen Formel R1R1T-OR,mit R = Alkyl,mit gegebenenfalls substituierten
Phenyl-halogeniden zu Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel R 1R11P(O)-Phenyl (substituiert) umzusetzen. Carboxyphenylalkyl-phosphinsäure
bzw. ihre Ester oder Diester sind jedoch in diesen Patentschriften weder beschrieben, noch hergestellt oder genannt.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind nun Carboxyphenylalky!phosphinsäuren
sowie deren Ester der Formel I

Gegenstand der Erfindung ist weiterhin ein Verfahren zur Herstellung

an sich bekannter Weise mit Glykolen der Formel HO-(CH2) -CHR-OH,
η = 1 bis 3 und R = Viasserstoff oder eine Alkylgruppe mit 1-4
C-Atomen,verestert oder umestert. Auch die Anhydride der Carboxyphenylalkylphosphinsäuren
können hergestellt werden.
Überraschend ist, daß beispielsweise im Gegensatz zu dem bekannten
Verfahren der britischen Patentschrift Nr. 1.200.273 (Beispiel 17,
Ausbeute: 11%) bei Verwendung von Alkanphosphonigsäurediestern . als Reaktionspartner sich auch 2-Kalogenbenzoesäureester in
wirtschaftlieh interessanten Ausbeuten zu den erfindungsgemäßen
Produkten umsetzen lassen.
Als Ausgangsverbindungen der Formel III kommen z.B. in Frage:
Methanphosphonigsäuredimethy!ester, -diäthy!ester, -di-isobutylester,
-dioktylester, -didodecy!ester, Äthanphosphonigsäuredimethylester,
-diisopropylester, --dicycXohexylester, Butanphofjphonig-cäurediinethylester,

-dioktylester. Die Herstellung dieser Alkanphosphonigsäurediester
ist bekannt.
Als Ausgangsverbindungen der Formel II können u.a. eingesetzt werden: o-, m-, p-Chlorbenzoesäuremethyl-, -äthyl-, -propyl-,
-butyl-, -hexyl-, -decyl-, -dodecylester, o«, m~, p-Brombenzoesäuremethyl-,
-äthyl-, -propyl-, -butyl-, -cyclohexyl-, -oktyl-, -dodecylester.
Die nun nach an sich bekannten Verfahren herstellbaren erfindungsgemäßen
Alkoxycarbonylphenylalkylphosphinsäureester
werden zur Herstellung der Carboxyphenylalky!phosphinsäuren
durch starke anorganische Säuren oder Basen gespalten und/oder hydrolysiert.Es kommen dafür z.B. in Frage: konzentrierte
Salzsäure, wäßrige Schwefelsäure, wäßrige Phosphorsäure, Natronlauge, Kalilauge, Calcium-, Magnesium-, Bariumhydroxid.
Die Aufarbeitung erfolgt in an sich bekannter Weise. So kann z.B. beim Einsatz von konzentrierter Salzsäure nach beendeter
Umsetzung das Wasser und der Chlorwasserstoff im Wasserstrahlvakuum abdestilliert und die verbleibende rohe Säure aus
Wasser umkristallisiert werden.
Bei der Verseifung mit Alkalien anfallende Alkalisalze der erfindungsgemäßen Phosphinsäuren werden durch einfache bekannte
Maßnahmen in die erfindungsgemäßen Phosphinsäuren übergeführt.
Die vorstehend unter b) genannte Esterspaltung kann beispielsweise
nach den Angaben in der DOS 2.156.284 und die unter c) genannte Phosgenierung analog den Angaben in der
DOS 2.129.584 und/oder entsprechend der Patentanmeldung P 23 21 122.5 durchgeführt worden.

Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen sind interessante Zwischenprodukt
ejz.B. für die Herstellung von Pflanzenschutzmitteln
und Pharraazeutika. Sie sind jedoch auch und mit Vorteil
unmittelbar verwendbar als wertvolle Korrosionsinhibitoren und Komplexbildner. Vor allein aber werden sie eingesetzt
als Comonomere bei der Herstellung von Kunststoffen, wie z.B. Polymerisaten, Polykondensaten oder Polyadditionsprodukten,
beispielsweise Polyestern, insbesondere linearen, wie
Terephthalsäure-Polyestern, denen sie gute flammwidrige
Eigenschaften, insbesondere aber eine verbesserte Anfärbbarkeit
verleihen (vergl. Patentanmeldung P (interne
Nr. HOE 73/F 2.89 ), sie haben gegenüber den bisher bekannten
phosphororganischen Verbindungen wie Triphenylphosphinoxid, die
Polyestern beigemischt werden können, den Vorzug einer höheren thermischen Stabilität und einer geringeren Flüchtigkeit.
Die Erfindung v,'ird durch die folgenden Beispiel erläutert:

a) Herstellung des o-Kthoxycarbonylphenylmethylphosphinsäureäthylesters
91 g o-Brombeuzoesäureäthylester und 3 g Nickelchlorid v/erden
auf 190 C erhitzt und dazu unter lebhaftem Rühren 54 g Methanphosphonigsäurediät
hy !ester wäh.vend 4 Stunden eingetropft und das entstehende Äthylbromid abdestilliert. Nach beendeter
Umsetzung wird destilliert.
Man einhält 67 g o-Äthoxy car bony Iphenylme thy lphosphinsäureäthy!ester,
Kp g: 139 C - 144 C. Das entspricht einer
Ausbeute von 68 % der Theorie.
b) Herstellung der o-Carboxyphenylmethylphosphinsäure
106 g o-Äthoxycarbonylpheiiyimet hy iphosph insäur eät hy lest er
werden mit 200 ml konzentrierter Salzsäure versetzt und zum
Rückfluß erhitzt, während gleichseitig ein langsamer Chlorwasserstoff
strom durch das Reaktionsgemisch geleitet wird. Nach 24 Stunden wird das Wasser und der Chlorwasserstoff
abdestilliert. Der Rückstand wird über Ätzkali getrocknet.
Man erhält 78 g o-Carboxyphenylnethylphosphinsäurc, Fp: 170 C
172 C (umkristallisiert aus Wasser). Das entspricht einer Ausbeute von 95 % der Theorie.

BeiBpiel 2;
a) Herstellung des m-iltlioxycarbonylphenylmethylphosphinsäure-äthylesters
100 g m-Chlorbenzoesäureäthylester und 3 g Nickelchlorid
werden unter Stickstoffatmosphäre auf 200°C - 210°C erhitzt und dazu unter lebhaftem Rühren 73 g Methanphosphonigsäurediäthylester
während 2 Stunden eingetropft und das entstehende Athylchlorid abdestilliert. Nach beendeter Umsetzung wird'
destilliert.
Man erhält 89 g m-ÄthoxycarbonylphenyimethylphosphinsäurG-
äthylester, Kp „: 140°C - 145°C. Das entspricht einer

Ausbeute von 64 % der Theorie.
b) Herstellung der m-Carboxyphenylmeihylphosphinsäure
130 g m-A'thoxycarbonylphenylmethylphosphinsäureäthy !ester
werden mit 200 ml konzentrierter Salzsäure vermischt und dieses Gemisch 7 Stunden auf 100°C gehalten, während gleichzeitig
ein langsanier Chlorwasserstoffstrom durch das Reaktionsgemisch geleitet wird. Dann wird abgekühlt und abgesaugt.
Nach Trocknung über Ätzkali erhält num 80 g m-Carboxyphenylmethylphosphinsäure,
Fp.: 230 C - 232 C (umkristallisiert aus Wasser). Bas entspricht einer Ausbeute von 80 % der Theorie,

a) Herstellung des p-Athoxycarbonylphenyli.iethylphOEphinsäureäthylesters
405 g p-Brombenzoesäureäthylester und 12 g Nickelchlorid
werden auf 17O°C - 180°C erhitzt und unter lebhaftem Rühren
•240 g Methanphosphonigsäurediäthylester während 3 Stunden eingetropft, wobei das entstehende Kthylbromid abdestilliert.
Nach beendeter Umsetzung wird destilliert.
Man erhält 355 g p-Äthoxycarbonylphenylmethylphosphinsäureäthylester,
Kp a; 148 C - 150 C. Das entspricht einer Ausbeute
von 78 % der Theorie.
b) Herstellung der p-Carboxypheny line thy lphosphinsäure
200 g p-Athoxycarbonylphenylmethylphosphinsäureäthylester
werden mit überschüssiger konzentrierter Salzsäure am Rückfluß gekocht. Nach beendeter Umsetzung wird im Wasserstrahlvakuum
das Wasser und der ChlorAvasserstoff abdestilliert. Der Rückstand wird aus Wasser umkristallisiert.
Man erhält 135 g p-Caz'boxyphenylmethylphosphinsäure, Fp. :
238°C - 240°C. Das entspricht einer Ausbeute von 87 % der Theorie,

der Formel I
