Tetrasubstituierte Harnstoffe, Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung sowie iftre. Verwendung als Herbizide .
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft neue N, N'-tetrasubstltuierte
Harnstoffe, welche herbizide Eigenschaften haben, sowie Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung.
Es ist bereits bekannt geworden, daß N,H*-tr!substituierte
Harnstoffe wie 3-(3f4-Dichlorphenyl)-1,1-dimethylharnstoff,
3-(4-Chlorphenyl)-1,1-dimethylhamstoff und 3-(4-Ghlorphenyl)■
1-methyl-1-methoxyharnstoff herbizide Wirksamkeit haben,
(vgl. US-Patentschriften 2 655 444, 2 655 445, 2 655 447,
2 655 534 und Deutsche Auslegeschrift 1 028 986), Ihre Wirksamkeit

Überraschenderweise zeichnen sich die erfindungsgemäßen tetrasubstituierten Harnstoffe durch gute herbizide Wirksamkeit
und eine erheblich bessere Selektivität in Kulturen wie Baumwolle, Getreide, Möhren und Bohnen aus als die aus dem
Stand der Technik bekannten trisubstituierten Harnstoffe wie 3-(3,4-Bichlorphenyl)-l,l-dimethylharnstoff, 3-(4-Chlorphenyl)-l,l-dimethylharnstoff und 3-{3,4-Dichlorphenyl)-1-methyl-l-methoxyharnstoff, welche die chemisch nächetliegenden Wirkstoffe gleicher Wirkungsart sind. Die erfindungegemäßen Stoffe stellen somit- eine Bereicherung der Technik
dar.
Verwendet man 3-(4-Trifluormethylphenyl)-3-chlormethyl-1,1-dimethylharnstoff und 2-Chloräthanol als Ausgangsstoffe,

Die als Ausgangsstoffe verwendeten N-Halogenmethylharnstoffe
sind durch die Formel (II.) allgemein definiert. In dieser Formel steht R vorzugsweise für geradkettiges Alkyl mit
1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen und für gegebenenfalls ein- oder mehrfach substituiertes Phenyl oder Benzyl. Als Substituenten

mit mindestens 1 Mol Formaldehyd oder Formaldehyd abgehenden Stoffen und einem Halogenierungsmittel bei Temperaturen von

Harnstoffe der Formel (V) sind zum größten Teil bekannt; die noch nicht bekannten können nach bekannten Verfahren
hergestellt werden (vgl. z.B. Z.Angewandte Chemie , 851-854 (1963)).

Die als Reaktionskomponenten verwendeten Alkohole 9 Merkaptanep

Als Substituenten des Alkylxestes seien vorzugsweise genannt: Alkoxy und Alkoxycarboiiyl mit 1 bis 3 Kohlenstoffatomen im
Alkylteil, beispielhaft Methoxy, Methoxycarbonyl und Aroxy
oder Aralkoxy mit 6 bis 1G Kohlenstoffatomen im Aryl- und
1 bis 2 Kohlenstoffatomen im Alkylteil. Die beiden letztgenannten Reste können ein oder mehrfach substituiert sein und

Die als Ausgangsstoffe verwendeten Alkohole, Merkaptane,
Phenolej Thiophenole, Carbonsäuren, Thiοcarbonsäuren, Sulfinsäuren, Amine sowie deren Salze entsprechend den Formeln
(III) und.(IV) sind bekannt.
Als Verdünnungsmittel kommen bei der erfindungsgemäßen' Umsetzung (Variante a)" alle inerten organischen Lösungsmittel
infrage. Hierzu gehören vorzugsweise Kohlenwasserstoffe wie
ligroin, Benzin, Benzol, Toluol; Halogenkohlenwasserstoffe wie Dichlormethan, Chloroform, Tetrachlorkohlenwasserstoff5
Äther wie Diäthyläther, Dioxan oder Tetrahydrofuran od©r Ester wie Acetessigester und Essigsäureäthylester.
Als Säurebinder können alle üblichen Säurebindemittel verwendet werden. Hierzu gehören vorzugsweise Alkalihydroxide,
Alkalicarbonate und tertiäre organische Basen. Als besonders geeignet seien: im einzelnen genannt: Natriumcarbonat, TrI-äthylamin
und Pyridin.
Die Reaktionstemperaturen können in einem größeren Bereich variiert werden. Im allgemeinen arbeitet man zwischen -2O0C
und + 10O0C, vorzugsweise zwischen -1O0C und +800C.

Bei der Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens setzt man auf 1 Mol N-Halogenmethylharnstoff der Formel (II.) 1 Mol
der Verbindungen der Formel (III) und 1 bis etwa 1,2 Mol Säurebinder ein. Weitere Überechreitung der stöchiometrischen
Verhältnisse bringt keine wesentliche Ausbeuteverbesstrung.
Zur Isolierung der erfindungsgemäß wirksamen Verblödungen der
Formel (I) wird der entstandene Niederschlag abgesaugt, gut ausgewaschen und die erhaltenen vereinigten Filtrate im
Vakuum vom Lösungsmittel befreit. Man kann auch das Reaktionsgemisch,
ohne Abfiltrieren des Niederschlags, zur Trockne eindampfen, den Rückstand mit Wasser aufnehmen und mit
Chlorkohlenwasserstoffen extrahieren, die organische Phase trocknen und abdestillieren. Der Rückstand wird nach
üblichen Methoden weiter behandelt und durch Umkristallisieren gereinigt. In einigen Fällen werden Jedoch öle erhalten,
die weder zur Kristallisation gebracht noch ohne Zersetzung destilliert werden können.
Als Verdünnungsmittel kommen bei der erfindungsgemäßen Umsetzung (Variante b) alle polaren organischen Lösungsmittel
infrage. Hierzu gehören vorzugsweise Nitrile wie Acetonitril, Tolunitril, Sulfoxide wie Dimethylsulfoxid oder Amide wie
Dimethylformamid.
Die Reaktionstemperaturen können gleichfalls in einem größeren Bereich variiert werden. Im allgemeinen arbeitet man zwischen
O0C und 15O0C, vorzugsweise zwischen 200C und 1000C.
Bei der Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens
(Variante b) setzt man auf 1 Mol der Verbindung der Formel (II) 1 bis 2 Mol der Verbindungen der Formel (IV) ein.

Zur Isolierung der Verbindungen der Formel (1) wird das entstandene Halogenid abfiltr.iert, das Piltrat zur Trockne eingedampft, der Rückstand mit einem organischen Lösungsmittel aufgenommen.
Nach kurzem Schütteln mit Wasser wird die organische- ·
Phase getrocknet, danach das Lösungsmittel im Vakuum abdestilliert. Das so erhaltene Produkt ist in vielen Fällen reih,
wenn nötig, kann es nach üblichen Methoden weiter gereinigt werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Wirkstoffe haben ausgezeichnete herbizide Eigenschaften und können deshalb zur Bekämpfung von
Unkraut verwendet werden.
Unkräuter im weitesten Sinne sind Pflanzen, die an Stellen aufwachsen,
wo sie unerwünscht sind. Als Unkräuter seien genannt: Dikotyle wie Senf (Sinapis), Kresse (lepidium), Klettenlabkraut
(Galium), Vogelmiere (Stellaria), Kamille (Matricaria), Franzosenkraut (Galinsoga), Gänsefuß (Chenopodium), Brennessel
(Urtica), Kreuzkraut (Senecio) und Monokotyle wie Lieschgras (Phleum), Rispengras (Poa), Schwingel (Festuca), Eleusine
(Eleusine), Fennich (Setaria), Raygras (Lolium) und Hühnerhirse (Bchinochloa).
Die erfindungsgemäßen Wirkstoffe beeinflußen das Pflanzenwachstum
sehr stark, jedoch in verschiedener Weise, so daß - sie als selektive Herbizide verwendet werden können«
Sie zeigen besondere Vorteile als selektive Herbizide in Baumwolle-, Getreide- und Möhrenkulturen. Einzelne der erfindungsgemäßen
Wirkstoffe sind auch vorteilhaft als selektive herbizide Mittel in Bohnenkulturen anwendbar. In hohen
Konzentrationen (> 10 kg/ha) eignen sich die erfindungsgemäßen Wirkstoffe auch zur totalen Unkrautbekämpfung.

Die erfindungsgemäßen Wirkstoffe können in die üblichen
Formulierungen übergeführt werden, wie Lösungen,-Emulsionen,
Suspensionen, Pulver, Pasten und Granulate. Diese werden in bekannter Weise hergestellt, z. B. durch Vermischen der
Wirkstoffe mit Streckmitteln, also flüssigen Lösungsmitteln, unter Druck stehenden verflüssigten Gasen und/oder festen
Trägerstoffen, gegebenenfalls unter Verwendung von oberflächenaktiven
Mitteln, also Emulgiermitteln und/oder Dispergiermitteln und/oder schaumerzeugenden Mitteln. Im Falle der
Benutzung von Wasser als Streckmittel können z. B. auch organische Lösungsmittel als Hilfslösungsmittel verwendet
werden. Als flüssige Lösungsmittel kommen im wesentlichen in Frage: Aromaten, wie Xylol, Toluol, Benzol oder Alkylnaphthaline,
chlorierte Aromaten oder chlorierte aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Chlorbenzole, Chloräthylene oder
Methylenchlorid, aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Cyclohexan oder Paraffine, z. B. Erdölfraktionen, Alkohole, wie
Butanol oder Glycol sowie deren Äther und Ester, Ketone, wie Aceton, Methyläthylketon, Methylisobutylketon oder Cyclohexanon,
stark polare Lösungsmittel, wie Dimethylformamid und Dimethylsulfoxid, sowie Wasser; mit verlüssigten gasförmigen
Streckmitteln oder Trägerstoffen sind solche Flüssigkeiten gemeint, welche bei normaler Temperatur und unter
Normaldruck gasförmig sind, z. B. Aerosol-Treibgase, wie Halogenkohlenwasserstoffe, z.B. Freon; als feste Trägerstoffe:
natürliche Gesteinsmehle, wie Kaoline, Tonerden, Talkum, Kreide, Quarz, Attapulgit, Montmorillonit und
Diatomeenerde, und synthetische Gesteinsmehle, wie hochdisperse Kieselsäure, Aluminiumoxid und Silikate; als
Emulgier- und/oder schaumerzeugende Mittel: nichtionogene und anionische Emulgatoren, wie Polyoxyäthylen-Fetteäureester,
Polyoxyäthylen-Fettalkohol-äther, z. B. Alkylarylpolyglycol-äther,
Alkylsulfonate, Alkylsulfate, Arylsulfonate
sowie Eiwelßhydrolysate; als Dispergiermittel: z.B. Lignin, Sulfitablaugen und Methylcellulose.
Die erfindungßgemäßen Wirkstoffe können in den Formulierungen in Mischung mit anderen bekannten Wirkstoffen vorliegen.

Zur Herstellung einer zweckmäßigen Wirkstoffzubereitung vermischt
man 1 Gewichtsteil Wirkstoff mit der angegebenen Menge Lösungsmittel, gibt die angegebene Menge Emulgator zu und
verdünnt das Konzentrat anschließend mit Wasser auf die gewünschte Konzentration.
Mit der Wirkstoffzubereitung spritzt man Testpflanzen, welche
eine Höhe von 5-15 cm haben so, daß die in der Tabelle angegebenen
Wirkstoffmengen pro Flächeneinheit ausgebracht werden,
Je nach Konzentration der Spritzbrühe liegt die Wasaeraufwandmenge
zwischen 1000 und 2000 l/ha. Nach drei Wochen wird der Schädigungsgrad der Pflanzen bestimmt und mit den Kennziffern

25 g (0,09 Mol) 3-(4-Trifluormethylphenyl)-3-chlormethyl-l,Ια
imethylharnetoff werden in 200 ml wasserfreiem Tetrachlorkohlenstoff
gelöst. Dazu wird unter Rühren eine Lösung von 8 g (0,1 Mol) 2-Chloräthanol und 10,1 g (0,1 Mol) Triäthylamin
in 50 ml wasserfreiem Tetrachlorkohlenstoff getropft. Dabei steigt die Temperatur von Raumtemperatur auf 430C an und
fallt nach dem Abklingen der exothermen Reaktion langsam auf ihren Ausgangswert zurück. Nach weiterem einstündigem Rühren bei
Raumtemperatur wird das Lösungsmittel der erhaltenen Suspension im Vakuum abdestilliert, der Rückstand mit 100 ml Wasser aufgenommen
und die wäßrige Suspension zwei bis drei Mal mit je 100 ml Tetrachlorkohlenstoff ausgeschüttelt. Die vereinigten
Tetrachlorkohlenstoffphasen werden über Natriumsulfat getrocknet
und das Lösungsmittel abdestilliert.
Man erhält 26 g (90# der Theorie) 3-(4-Trifluormethylphenyl)
-3-(2~chloräthoxy)-methyl-l,l-dimethylharnstoff als öl, das
langsam kristallinisch erstarrt und dann einen Schmelzpunkt von 390C aufweist.

Zu einer Lösung von 23 g ("0,1 Mol) 3-Phenyl-3-chlormethyl-1,1-dimethylharnstoff
in 125 ml Essigsäureäthylester wird unter Rühren und Außenkühlung eine Lösung von 3,3 g (0,1 Mol)
Methanol und 10,1 g (0,1 Mol) Triethylamin so zugetropft, daß die Realct ions temperatur 200C nicht übersteigt. Nach
einetündigem Rühren bei Raumtemperatur wird der entstandene Niederschlag abfiltriert und mit ca. 50 ml Essigester gut
ausgewaschen. Die vereinigten Filtrate und Waschlösungen werden im Vakuum vom Lösungsmittel befreit, das erhaltene
Öl mit 100 ml Benzol aufgenommen und mit zweimal je 50 ml
Wasser gewaschen. Die organische Phase wird über Natriumsulfat getrocknet und das Lösungsmittel abdestilliert. Der ölige
Rückstand wird mit 100 ml eines Gemisches aus Äther/Petroläther
(1:1) aufgenommen, filtriert und das Lösungsmittel des Filtrats nochmals im Vakuum abdestilliert. Es bleiben 17»5 g
(84 % der Theorie) 3-Phenyl-3-methoxymethyl-l,l-dimethylharnstoff
als Öl zurück.
Die Verbindung wird am besten durch ihr Protonenresonanzspektrum (PMR) charakterisiert:

der entstandene Niederschlag anschließend abfiltriert, mit 50 ml Essigester nachgewaschen und das Filtrat im Vakuum

Man erhält in quantitativer Ausbeute 3-(4-Chlorphenyl)-3-nbutylthiomethyl-1-methyl-l-methoxyharnetoff

Zu einer Suspension von 27 g (0,15 Mol) 4-chlorbenzoesaurem Natrium in 300 ml wasserfreiem Acetonitril wird eine
Lösung von 33,1 g (0,1 Mol) 3-(3-Chlor-4-trifluomethoxy~
phenyl)-3-chlormethyl-l,l-dimethylharnstoff in 100 ml wasserfreiem Acetonitril zugetropft, wobei eich die Lusung auf
30 bie 350C. erwärmt. Man rührt eine Stunde bei Raumtemperatur,
filtriert vom Niederschlag ab und destilliert das lösungsmittel des Filtrate unter vermindertem Brück ab. Bas hinterbleibende öl kristallisiert langsam durch.

Beispiele für die Herstellung von Ausgangsprodukten der Formel (II): __

CH2Cl'
164 g (1 Mol) 1-rhenyl-3,3-dimethylharnstoff und 45 g (1,5
Mol) Paraformaldehyd werden in 1500 ml wasserfreiem Benzol
suspendiert. Diese Suspension wird mit trockenem Chlorwasserstoff gas durch Einleiten bei einer Temperatur von 100C bis
150C gesättigt. Anschließend werden unter Rühren und Eiskühlung
179 g (1,5 Mol) Thionylchlorid bei einer Temperatur von 15 bis 200C langsam zugetropft.
Nach Rühren über Nacht bei Raumtemperatur wird das Lösungsmittel unter Feuchtigkeitsausschluß bei 4O0C Badtemperatur
im Vakuum abdestilliert. Der Rückstand wird mit 100 ml Tetrachlorkohlenstoff
versetzt, filtriert und das Piltrat im Vakuum abdestilliert. Das entstandene Ul wird im Hochvakuum
getrocknet.
Man erhält in quantitativer Ausbeute 212,5 g 1-Chlormetbyl-1-phenyl-3,3-dimethylharnstoff.
Die Verbindung wird am besten durch ihr Protonenresonanzspektrum (PMR) charakterisiert; Die
chemische Verschiebung S der in der erfindungsgemäßen Reaktion
neu gebildeten CHg-Gruppe

gemessen bei 60 MHX in Tetrachlorkohlenstoff als Lösungsmittel
und gegen Tetramethylsilan (TMS) (<£ = Oppm)
als inneren Standard beträgt 5,56 ppm.

198,4 g (1 Mol) 3-(4-Chlorphenyl)-l,l-dimethylharnstoff
werden mit 33 g (1,1 Mol) Paraformaldehyd, gelöst in 1,5 1 wasserfreiem Benzol, suspendiert. In diese Suspension
wird unter Eiskühlen und Rühren ca. 1 Stunde trockenes Chlorwasserstoffgas so eingeleitet, daß die Innentemperatur
20 bis 25°C nicht übersteigt. Während des Einleitens
wird die Suspension allmählich klar: es tritt Lösung ein. Zur erhaltenen Lösung werden dann 82,5 ml (1 Mol)
Thionylchlorid zugetropft. Die Temperatur soll dabei 3O0C
nicht übersteigen.
Nach 12-stündigem Rühren wird das Lösungsmittel unter
Feuchtigkeitsausschluß im Vakuum bei 4O0C Außentemperatur
abdestilliert. Der Rückstand wird mit 250 ml Benzol aufgenommen und die benzolische Lösung vom nicht umgesetzten
Ausgangsharnstoff durch Filtration befreit. Danach wird das Lösungsmittel des Filtrats im Vakuum abdestilliert.
Man erhält 237 g (96 # der Theorie) 3-(4-Chlorphenyl)-3-chlormethyl-ljl-dimethyl-harnstoff
als öl, das beim Anreiben mit Petroläther kristallisiert; Schmelzpunkt 37 - 430C;
CH = 5,49 ppm (gemessen bei 60 MHz in CDCl, und TMS als
inneren Standard).

In analoger Weise wie in Beispiel a beschrieben,können die
in der folgenden Tabelle 2 aufgeführten Verbindungen hergestellt
werden; auch sie werden am besten durch die chemische Verschiebung (" /-Wert" in ppm) der neu gebildeten -CHg-Gruppe
als physikalisch-chemische Kenngröße charakterisiert!

- 5) Verwendung von N.N'-tetrasubstituierten Harnstoffen gemäß Anspruch 1 zur Bekämpfung von unerwünschtem Pflanzenwachstum.
- 6) Verfahren zur Herstellung von herbiziden Mitteln, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man N.N'-tetrasubstituierte Harnstoffe gemäß Anspruch 1 mit Streckmitteln und/oder oberflächenaktiven Mitteln vermischt.Le A 14 635 - 50 -409814/1238
