Sulfinylgruppen enthaltende Alkenylbernsteinsäureester .
Vorliegende Erfindung betrifft Sulfinylgruppen ent haltende Alkenylbernsteinsäureester.
In Kurzstreckfahrzeugen eingesetzte Verbrennungs motore
erreichen nicht ihre leistungsfähigste Betriebstempera tur. Deshalb sammeln sich im Verbrennungsmotor große Mengen
unerwünschter Produkte an, die aus der unvollständigen Ver brennung des Treibstoffs sowie aus den ölunlöslichen Oxyda tionsprodukten
der Schmierstoffe und aus anderen Quellen her rühren. Setzen sich diese unerwünschten Produkte auf den
Motorteilen ab, wird die Motorleistung dadurch weiter vermindert.
Um die Ansammlung von Fremdstoffen und das Absetzen von
Schmutz zu verhindern, setzt man dem Schmieröl ein Disper gierungsmittel
zu, wodurch bewirkt werden soll, daß die ölunlöslichen Fremd- und Schmutz teilch en im Öl suspendiert bleiben
und sich nicht auf den betriebswichtigen Motorteilen absetzen .

Außerdem können die Verbrennungsprodukte des Treibstoffs
außerordentlich starke Abnutzung hervorrufen und zwar besonders dann, wenn der Motor unter verhältnismäßig kalten
Betriebsbedingungen arbeitet, wodurch sich Feuchtigkeit und Säureprodukte auf der Motoroberfläche ansammeln, wodurch der
Verschleiß verschiedener Motorteile weiter gefördert wird.
Ziel vorliegender Erfindung ist es nun, neuartige Verbindungen herzustellen, die in Schmieröle oder flüssige
Kohlenwasserstofftreibstoffe als Additive zur Dispergierung
von Schmutz, sowie als Korrosions- und Verschleiß-Schutz stoffe eingearbeitet werden können.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen eignen sich zur
Verwendung als Dispergiermittel in Schmierölen und Treib stoffen. Sie können in Mengenverhältnissen von etwa 0,005
bis 15 Gew.# des Öl- oder Treibstoff-Gemisches verwendet werden.
Aufgrund von verschiedenen Standardtests wurde festge stellt, daß die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen eine hervor ragende
Wirksamkeit als Dispergierungsmittel besitzen.
Die neuartigen sulfinylhaltigen Alkenylsuecinate sind
erhältlich durch Umsetzung von
(1) einem Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid, einer Alkenylbernsteinsäure
oder einem Halbamid einer Alkenylbernstein säure mit
(2) mindestens einer sulfinylhaltigen Hydroxy-Verbindung der folgenden allgemeinen Formel:

2 Kohlenstoffatouie enthält, die sich als Kette zwiscüen
den benachbarten Schwefel- und Sauerstoffatomen erstrecken,

bei sicn. mindestens 2 Kohlenstoffatome als Kette zwischen den
benachbarten Schwefel- und -Sauerstoffatomen erstrecken, oder ein Phenylenrest oder ein durch eine niedere Alkylgruppe
substituierter Phenylenrest, wobei, wenn R* und R, Phenyl enreste
oder ein durch eine niedere Alkylgruppe substituierter Phenylenrest sind, η =1 ist.
Die Alkenylbernsteinsäureverbindung kann auch mit
einem Gemisch verschiedener Verhältnismengen der in den Formeln A, B und C beschriebenen sulfinylhaltigen Hydroxyverbindungen umgesetzt werden. Werden sulfinylhaltige Hydroxyverbindungen der Formain A und B zusammen mit einem oder
mehreren Alkoholen der Formel C verwendet, wirken sie als
Kettenabbrecher bei der Polyesterreaktion.
Beispiele für Substituenten R-^ sind: grad- und
verzweigtkettige aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffreste wie
in ethyl-, Äthyl-, Propyl-, tert .-Butyl-, Amyl—, Isohexyl-,
Octyl-, Isooctyl-, ,tert. Octyl-, Honyl-, Decyl-, Dodecyl-,
tert.-Dodecyl-, tert.-Tetradecyl-, Hexadecyl-, tert.-Hexadecyl-,
Eicosyl-, Tetracosyl-, Phenyl-, Naphtyl-, Tolyl-,
tert.-Butylphenyl-, tert.-Octylphenyl-, tert.-Dodecylphenyl-,
Octadecylphenyl-, Tetracosylphenyl-, Benzyl- oder Phenyläthyl.

Typische Rp-Alkylengruppen sind Äthylen-, Propylen-
und Butylengruppen. R, und R. können Äthylen-, Propylen-,
Butylen-, Phenyl-, jJ^-Dimethylphenyl- oder 3,5-Ditert.-Butylphenylgruppen
sein.
Verbindungen der Formel A sind bekannt. Der Rp-Rest
der Formel A kann ein Gemisch aus verschiedenen Alkylen gruppen sein, die dadurch erhalten wurden, daß als Reaktionsteilnehmer zur Herstellung der Verbindung der Formel A Gemische
aus Alkylenoxyden wie z.B. Äthylenoxyd, Propylenoxyd und 1,2-Butylenoxyd verwendet wurden. Verbindungen der Art
der Formel C sind ebenfalls in der Literatur bereits beschrieben worden. Die den Verbindungen der Formel G ent sprechenden
Sulfide wurden in der USA-Patentschrift 2 582 geoffenbart; sie können durch Verwendung üblicher Oxy dationsmittel
wie Wasserstoffperoxyd und Persäuren können
zu Sulfoxyden oxydiert werden. Hierfür verwendbare Per säuren sind u.a. Peressigsäure, Perschwefelsäure und Per benzoesäure.
Die Oxydation der Sulfidverbindung zur äquiva lenten SuIfinylverbindung erfolgt durch übliche Verfahrens weisen.
Verbindungen der Formel B werden durch Misehkonden sation
einer Verbindung der Formel A mit einer Verbindung der Formel C erhalten. Die Kondensationsreaktion wird be schleunigt
durch Verwendung eines Kondensationskatalysators wie z.B. einer starken Mineralsäure, wie Schwefelsäure.

Das aus Alkenyl bernsteinsäureanhydrid.«bestehende
Ausgangsmaterial besitzt die allgemeine Formel

worin R ein Alkenylrest mit etwa 12 bis 200, vorzugsweise 30 bis 200 Kohlenstoffatomen ist. Deshalb hat R ein Molekulargewicht
von etwa 170 bis etwa 2800. Diese Verbindung wird dadurch erhalten, daß Maleinsäure mit einem geeig neten
Polyolefin umgesetzt wird.
Weitere Ausgangsmaterialien dieses Typs sind u.a. Alkenylbernsteinsäure und das Halbamid der Alkenylbernstein
säure, deren Alkenylgruppe der oben gegebenen Definition von R entsprechen.
Das Alkenylberasteinsäuremonoamid wird so berge stellt,
daß ein Alkenylbemsteinsäureanhydrid mit einer Ver bindung der allgemeinen Formel

Beispiele für die Gruppen A der Formel sind Methyl-,
Äthyl-, Butyl-, 5-Butyl-, Octyl-, tert.-Octyl-, Dodecyl-,
tert.-Octadecyl-, Tetracosyl-, Phenyl-, Naphthyl-, Benzyl-,
Butylphenyl-, Octylphenyl-, Dodecylphenyl-, Dioctyl phenyl-,
Butylnaphthyl-, Butylbenzyl- und Octylbenzylgruppen.
B kann ein Wasserstoffatom, eine Methyl-, Butyl-, Octyl-, Dodecyl-, Octadecyl-, Eicosyl- oder letracosylgruppe
sein. Vorzugsweise stellen A oder B einen tert.-Alkylrest
dar, wobei der restliche Substituent ein Wasserstoffatom
ist. A und B können jeweils eine einzelne Alkylgruppe
oder ein Gemisch von Alkylgruppen darstellen. So können A oder B z.B. ein Gemisch aus tert.-Alkylgruppen mit 12 bis
15 C-Atomen, durchschnittlich mit 13 C-Atomen, oder ein Gemisch
aus solchen mit 18 bis 24 C-Atomen darstellen. Eine weitere, vorzugsweise angewendete Ausführungsform besteht
darin, daß A oder Bein tert.-Butylrest und der restliche
Substituent ein Wasserstoffatom ist. Die Umsetzung zwischen
den Verbindungen der Formel D und der Formel E zur Her - ■
stellung von Alkenylbernsteinsäuremonoamid wird bei Temperaturen von etwa O0C bis 200°C, vorzugsweise von 60 C bis
1200C, durchgeführt.
Der Substituent R der Formel D wird erhalten durch Polymerisation eines 2 bis 18 C-Atome,. vorzugsweise 2 bis 8 C-Atome
enthaltenden Olefins, durch Additionspolymerisation von im wesentlichen reinen Olefinen und zwar solchen, die
unter normalen Bedingungen entweder gasförmig oder flüssig
sind, und die häufig beim Kracken von Petroleum und anderen Kohlenwasserstoffen anfallen. Olefinisch ungesättigte offenkettige
Kohlenwasserstoffe eines breiten Molekulargewichtsbereichs sind leicht aus Olefinen mit 2 bis 18 Kohlenstoff atomen
erhältlich. Vorzugsweise verwendete Olefine sind solche mit 2 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen und zwar besonders Olefine mit 4 Kohl enstof fatomen* Vorzugsweise verwendet man
selbstverständlich verhältnismäßig reine Olefine, aus denen
Schwefel, cyclische Verbindungen und andere Verunreini gungen entfernt wurden. ,

Es können sowohl Gemische verschiedener Olefine, von Äthylen bis Octadecen, wie auch einheitliche Verbin düngen
verwendet werden. Vorteilhaft anwendbar sind Gemische besonderer Olefine und zwar von Äthylen bis Pent en. Beson ders
vorteilhaft für die vorliegenden Zwecke erwiesen sich Gemische der verschiedenen Butene. Die gewöhnlich verwendeten
Butene enthalten sowohl gerad- wie verzweigtkettige Verbindungen. Es ist ferner möglich und häufig erwünscht, ein besonderes
Isomeres wie z.B. Isobutylen zu verwenden. Für die Zwecke der vorliegenden Erfindung ist jedoch die Trennung
oder Isolierung besonderer Isomeren nicht erforderlich. Die der chemischen Industrie leicht zugänglichen Gemische sind
für die erfindungsgemäßen Zwecke besonders brauchbar. Die als
Ausgangsstoffe verwendeten olefinischen Polymerisate können solche Flüssigkeiten sein, die bei normalen Temperaturen ziemlich
dünnflüssig sind, aber auch solche die bei diesen Temperaturen ziemlich viskos sind.
Hierfür verwendbare typische olefinische Polymerisate werden aus Äthylen, Propylen, Isobuten, 1-Buten, 2-Buten,
1-Penten, 2-Penten, 1-Hexen, 1-Octen, 2-Octen, 1-Decen, 1-Dodecen,
2-Dodecen und 1-Octadecen hergestellt.
Wahrend, nach der Darstellung der Strukturformel D, R
an ein bestimmtes Kohlenstoffatom gebunden ist, ist es für den Fachmann klar, daß R sich auch am anderen Kohlenstoffatom,
das in Alpha-Steilung zur anderen Carbonylgruppe steht, befinden
kann. Für die Einführung von R in das jeweilige Molekül wird von Maleinsäureanhydrid ausgegangen, weshalb R an jedem
der beiden in Alpha-Stellung zur Carboxylgruppe stehenden Kohlenstoffatome stehen kann. Diese Möglichkeit schließt vorliegende
Erfindung mit ein.
Das Polyolefin wird zuerst mit Maleinsäureanhydrid bei Temperaturen von etwa 200° bis 250 C während etwa 6 bis
16 Stunden umgesetzt. Man verwendet Maleinsäureanhydrid im Überschuß und zwar vorzugsweise in etwa der 1,5 - bis 3-fachen
stöchiometrischen Menge. Die Verwendung von überschüssigem

Maleinsäureanhydrid dient zur größtmöglichen Steigerang,
der Ausbeute. Das Polyolefin setzt sich mit Maleinsäureanhydrid unter Bildung eines Derivates des Bernsteinsäureanhydrids
um, das von überschüssigem Maleinsäureanhydrid
durch Vakuumdestillation oder durch ähnliche Behandlung abgetrennt werden kann. Das Produkt kann mit Xylol oder
einem ähnlichen Lösungsmittel verdünnt und filtriert werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Älkenylbernstexnsäureester
werden erhalten durch Umsetzung eines Alkenylbernsteinsäur
eanhydri ds, einer entsprechenden .freien Säure oder
des entsprechenden Bernstexnsäuremonoamxds mit entweder einem sulfinylhaltigen einwertigen Alkohol (beschrie ben
in den Formeln A oder B) oder einer sulfinylhaltigen
zweiwertigen Verbindung (definiert in Formel C) oder mit
Gemischen von beiden.
Bei ausschließlicher Verwendung von einwertigen sulfinylhaltigen Alkoholen lassen sich die erhaltenen
Mono- und Diester durch die folgenden Formeln darstellen:

Die Säuregruppe in Formel F kann durch Umsetzung mit einem beliebigen Alkanol oder Phenol in üblicher Weise
oder wie in der deutschen Patentanmeldung R 42010, eingereicht am 11. November 1965» beschrieben, "verestert wer den.
Ester der Formel F und G können so hergestellt werden, daß das Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid, die entsprechende
Säure oder das Alkenylbernsteinsäuremonoamid mit der gewünschten einwertigen Verbindung gemäß Formel A
oder B bei Temperaturen von 25 bis 220 C , vorzugsweise bei 60 bis 150 C, so lange umgesetzt wird, bis die Ver esterung
den gewünschten Grad erreicht hat. Bei dieser Umsetzung kann auch ein inertes organisches Lösungsmittel
verwendet werden.
Bei Verwendung von sulfinyl halt igen zweiwertigen Verbindungen wird ein Polyester erhalten der gewöhnlich
folgender Formel entspricht:

worin R, R5, R4 und η die obengenannte Bedeutung besitzen
und worin ζ die sich wiederholende Polyester-Einheit bedeutet
und eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 50 oder mehr sein kann. Die Ausgangsstoffe dieses Produktes können auf eine Temperatur
im Bereich von 80° bis 2200C, vorzugsweise von 120 bis 15Ö°C, erhitzt werden. Ein inertes organisches LÖsungs mittel
ist zur azeotropen Entfernung von Wasser aus dem Reaktionsgemisch erforderlich. Geeignete Lösungsmittel sind
aromatieche, aliphatisch^ und halogenierte Kohlenwasser stoffe.
Die Veresterung kann in einer Mineralöllösung oder -

dispersion oder in einer Kombination mit dem inerten organischen
Lösungsmittel durchgeführt werden. Bevorzugte
Lösungsmittel sind u.a. Benzol, Toluol und Xylol. Das Aufhören der Freisetzung von Wasser zeigte den -wesentlichen
Abschluß der Umsetzung an.
Ein innerhalb des Erfindungsbereichs liegendes
andersartiges Produkt wird dadurch erhalten, daß man ein ü-ewichtsäquivalent einer in Formel C beschriebenen zwei wertigen
Verbindung mit zwei Gewichtsäquivalenten einer Alkenylbernsteinsäure oder eines solchen Anhydrids umsetzt. Dieses Reaktionsprodukt läßt sich durch die folgende
Formel darstellen:

In ähnlicher Weise kann ein Gewichtsäquivalent
einer zweiwertigen Verbindung der Formel C mit zwei Gewichtsäquivalenten
eines Alkenylbernsteinsäuremonoamids
umgesetzt werden.
Bei den durch die obigen Formeln dargestellten Veresterungsreaktionen
kann das Molverhältnis des Alkenyl bernsteinsäureanhydrids
der freien Säure oder des Halbamids zur Sulfinylhydroxyverbindung im Bereich von etwa 1: 0,5
bis 1:2 oder höher schwanken. Deshalb verwendet man etwa 1/2
bis etwa 2 Mol Sulfinylhydroxyverbindung je Mol Säure-Verbindung.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen eignen sich zur Verwendung als Dispersionsmittel in Schmierölen und Treib -

stoffen. Sie können im Bereich von etwa 0,005 bis 15 Gew.fo
des Öls oder der Treibstoffzusammensetzung angewendet und nach üblichen Verfahrensweisen in diese eingearbeitet wer den.
Bei Treibstoffen beträgt der Bereich 0,005 bis 5, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 2 Gew.$ der Treibstoffzusammensetzung.
Bei Schmierstoffen beträgt der Bereich 0,1 bis 15, vorzugsweise
0,1 bis 10 Gew.% der Schmiermittelzusammensetzung .
Mittels mehrerer bekannter Prüfverfahren wurde nachgewiesen, daß die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen außergewöhn lieh
gute Dispersionswirkung besaßen.
Einige der zur Prüfung der erfindungsgemäßen Verbin-™
düngen herangezogenen Verfahren werden im folgenden beschrieben:
a) "API-Service-MS-Sequence V-A"-Test.
Dieser Test bestimmt die Schmutzdispergiereigen schäften
eines Schmiermittels bei niedrigen und mittleren
Betriebstemperaturen. Ein einzelner Zylinderöltestmotor wird unter Betriebsbedingungen geprüft, die in der von der
American Society for Testing and Materials, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19103 veröffentlichten "ASTM
Special Technical Publication Nr. 315" niedergelegt sind.
φ Messungen am Motor können während der Dauer des Prüf-
vorgangs jederzeit vorgenommen werden. Die 7 Teile, die auf Verschmutzung geprüft wurden (nach GRC-Merit, wobei 10 =
sauber ist) sind: Pleuelstange, Pleuelstangenabdeckplatte, Ventildeckplatte, Ventilsteuerung, Stößeldeckplatte, Stößelraum
und Ölwanne.
b) " Panel Coker" -Test.
Dieser Test wird im Bericht über den 5. WeIt-Petroleumkongreiss
(1959) in einem Artikel von R.N. Jolie "Laboratory Screening Test for lubricating Oil Detergents and Dispersants"
beschrieben. Eine Probe einer zu prüfenden Verbindung wird

in einer aus "170 SUS Mid-Continent Solvent Extracted
• Neutral" bestehenden Beschickung, die 1 $ eines thermisch
unbeständigen Zinkdialkyldithiophosphats enthält, gelöst» Das Gemisch wird in einen erhitzten Sammeltank gebracht
und gegen eine erhitzte Platte gespritzt, die zwei Stunden
lang bei einer Temperatur von 299°C gehalten wird. Die Gewichtszunahme der Platte wird bestimmt und dieser Wert
wird verglichen mit dem Wert des Öls, dem keine Testver bindung
zugesetzt wurde.
c) "Sundstrand Pump"-Test.
Bei diesem Test für Destillat-Treibstofföle, wird
1 Liter Treibstofföl, das 4 g synthetischen Niederschlag enthält, mit dem Additiv behandelt. Man läßt das Öl eine
Stunde lang durch eine Sundstrand-Ölbrennerpumpe zirkulieren,
die ein Sieb einer lichten Maschenweite von 0,147 mm
enthält. Der sich absetzende Schmutz wird gesammelt und
gewogen. (Nelson, Osterhaut und Schwindeman, Ind. Eng. Chem., 48, 1892 (1956)).
Zu den verwendbaren Treibstoffen gehören anerkannter maßen Destillattreibstoffe mit Siedepunkten von 24° bis
C, wie Benzine, Düsen- und Dieseltreibstoffe, sowie Heizöle. Die vorliegenden Verbindungen eignen sich besonders Jj
zur Verwendung in Treibstoffen mit Siedepunkten bis zu 316°C,
d.h. für gewöhnliche Benzine und Düsentreibstoffe und ähnliche flüssige Kohlenwasserstofftreibstoffe.
Schmiermittelgemische im Sinne vorliegender Erfindung können solche auf der Grundlage von Mineralölen oder
synthetischen Schmiermitteln sein. Die Mineralöle können einen breiten Viskositätsbereich, z.B. von 1 bis 25 Centistoke
bei 99°ö aufweisen. Diese Öle können naphthenischer
oder paraffinischer Natur oder verschiedene Gemische von solchen, ferner Destillate oder Gemische aus neutralen Ölen
und Brightstocks aein. Gegebenenfalls kann man die Scbjaier -

mittel eindicken und gelieren lassen und als Schmier fette verwenden. Verwendbar sind hierfür so verschieden artige
Öle wie Spindelöle, oder hydraulische Öle sowie Öle für Kolbenflugzeugmotore. Hierunter fallen auch Öle
für Zündverbrennungs- und Verdichtungszündmotore, und zwar Qualitäten von S.AeE. 5 "bis S.A.E. 50, sowie auch
andere Schmiernuttelarten, wie flüssige Kohlenwasser stoffe
für hydraulische und automatische Transmission.
Zu den synthetischen Schmiermitteln gehören Ester, wie z.B. Dioctyl-, Dinonyl- oder Diisodecyladipate, ^
azelate oder -sebacate, Polyäther und Silicone. Ist eine Verwendung für hydraulische Zwecke vorgesehen, können
auch Phosphatester als Basis verwendet werden. Bei den vorliegenden Zusammensetzungen kann auch ein Trans missions-,
Press-, Getriebeöl oder -fett als Basis dienen.
Pur die erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen können ein oder mehrere Zusatzstoffe, wie z.B. Antioxydantien,
Antischaummittel , Antirost - und Verschleißmittel, Grobwaschmittel,
den Gießpunkt herabsetzende Mittel, Verbesse rungsmittel
für den Viskositätsindex, oder andersartige Additive verwendet werden. So können z.B. ein oder mehrere
Dithiophosphate, wie Zink-, Barium- oder Nickeldialkyl dithiophosphat,
aulfurierte Öle, wie sulfuriertes Walratöl
und sulfurierte Terpene, Phenole, Sulfide, Alkylarylsulfonate,
Petroleumsulfonate, entweder gewöhnliche oder mit alkalischer
Reserve, wie z.B. Calcium-, Barium- oder Magnesiumpetroleumsulf
onate, Polymerisate und Mischpolymerisate aus Alkylaerylaten, Methaerylaten, Itaconaten oder Fumaraten
oder Vinylcarboxylaten und Gemische derselben, Mischpolymerisate
von Acryl estern und polaren, monoäthylenisch
ungesättigten Verbindungen wie IMFinyl-2-pyrrolidinon,
Vinylpyridinen, Aminoalkylacrylaten oder Methaerylaten» oder Polyäthylenglycolacrylsäureester, Polybutene, Alkylphenolalkylenoxydkondensate,

verschiedene Silicone und Alkyl- oder Arylphosphate, wie
Tricresylphosphate, verwendet werden.
Auch können verwendet werden; 4,4'-Methylen-bis-2,6-di-tert.-butylphenol,
Irialky!phenole, Iris(dimethylaminomethyl)-phenol,
Phenothiazin, Naphthylamine, N'-sec.-Butyl-U.N-dimethyl-p-phenylendiamin, Erdalkalialkylphenate,
Erdalkalisalicylate, Calciumphenylstearat,
Alkylamine, besonders Cjn- '^8 G2/-Alkylamine, cyclische
Amine, Alkyl- und Aryl imidazoline und Alke nylbernst einsäur eanhydride, die mit Aminen und dann mit Borverbindungen
wie Boroxyd, Borhalogeniden und Borestern umgesetzt wur - ,
den. - *
Ein Turboprop-Schmiermittel kann hergestellt werden
durch Vermischen der erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen mit Di-2-äthylhexylsebacat und einem Gemisch von Polyestern, die durch Kondensation von 2-Äthyl~l,3-hexan- diol
und Sebacinsäure in den Polyestern gebildet werden, mit 2-Äthylhexanol,
wobei auf jedes Molekül durchschnittlich 3 Grlycol-Einheiten kommen. Diese Zusammensetzung kann auch
Antioxydantien, Stabilisatoren oder andere zweckmäßige
Additive enthalten.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen, Zusammensetzungen
und das Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung werden anhand nachfolgender
Beispiele, die jedoch nicht als Begrenzung aufzufassen sind, näher erläutert. Hierbei sind die angegebenen
Teile durchweg Gewichtsteile.
Ein Gemisch aus 409 Teilen Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid
mit einem Anhydridgehalt von 0,502 Millimol/g (hergestellt
aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten mit einem Molekular gewicht von 1300), 62,6 Teilen Äthylsulfinyläthanol und
400 Teilen Xylol wurde in einem mit Mihrvorrichtung, Hüek-

flußkühler und Wasserabscheider versehenen Reaktions gefäß
auf 1500C erhitzt. Die Erhitzung bei Rückfluß temperatur
wurde während 8 Stunden fortgesetzt; während dieser Zeit hatte sich die theoretische Menge Wasser angesammelt.
Das Endprodukt wurde erhalten, nachdem die flüchtigen Bestandteile sowie überschüssiges Ausgangs material
durch Abstrippen bei 150 G und einem Druck von
0,5 mm Hg entfernt und das anfallende Produkt filtriert
worden war. Analyse: ^S= 2,52 (Theorie = 2,86).
Im "Panel Coker"-Test ergibt ein Gemisch, das 1,0 %
des obigen Produktes enthält, einen Niederschlag mit einem Gewicht von 111 mg. Das gleiche Öl ohne Zusatz mittel
ergibt einen Niederschlag mit einem Gewicht von 322 mg.
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test ergibt ein Zusatz von 0,01 g zu 100 ecm Öl ein Niederschlagsgewicht von 31 mg,
während ohne vorgenanntes Zusatzmittel 225 mg gefunden wurden.
1,6 Teile des obigen Produktes werden mit 1,0 Teilen eines handelsüblichen Zinkdialkyldithiophosphats
und 6,0 Teilen eines handelsüblichen Polymetacrylat VI-
. Verbesserungsmittels vermischt und 91»4 Teilen eines "170
SUS Mid-Gontinent-Sffllvent Extracted Neutral Oil" züge setzt.
Die Viskosität dieser Mischung beträgt 11,2 cSt bei 99°0 und 62,5 cSt bei'37,80C bei einem Viskositäts index
von 146. 'Der ASM-Gießpunkt beträgt -34,4°C. Die Prüfung dieser Mischung im "Sequence VA"-Test zeigte
nach 75-stündigem Motorbetrieb eine Schmutzquote von 66,7 (70,0 = sauber). Der entsprechende Wert für das Öl
ohne Zusatzstoff lag bei 39,7.
Ein Gemisch aus 447 Teilen des in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid und 59»2 Teilen

Äthylsulfinylpolyäthoxyäthanol (das durchschnittlieh 3»2
Äthoxy-Einheiten enthielt), wurde unter Rühren bei 70-90 6 -Stunden erhitzt, worauf das Infrarot-Spektrum der Reak tionslö'sung
keine Anhydridbande zeigte, woraus hervor ging, daß die Reaktion zum gewünschten Halbester abgeschlossen
war. Das Endprodukt nach dem Filtrieren enthielt 1,35 °/o S (Theorie: 1,35).
Im "Panel Coker" -Test ergab ein 1,0 $ des obigen
Produktes enthaltendes Gemisch einen Niederschlag, der
56 mg wog. Dasselbe Öl ohne Zusatz führte zu einem Niederschlag,
der 322 mg wog.

Bei Zugabe von 0,01 g zeigten 100 ecm ül im Sundstrand
Pump"-Test einen Niederschlag von 110 mg, während das Öl ohne Additiv 230 mg Niederschlag ergäbe
Der aus dem in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen .Polybutenyl-.
bernsteinsäureanhydrid gewonnene Halbester und das Äthylsulf inylpolyäthoxyäthanol (das durchschnittlieh 10,3 Äthoxy-Einheiten
enthielt), wurden so hergestellt, daß äquimolare Mengen der Reaktionskomponenten nach dem Verfahren des Beispiels
2 vermischt wurden. Das Endprodukt enthielt 1,02 $ S ^
(Theorie: 1,06). . ;.' ™
Im "Panel Goker"-Test ergab ein 1,0 fo des obigen
Produktes enthaltendes Gemisch ein Niederschlagsgewicht von 44 mg. Das gleiche Öl ohne Zusatzmittel ergab ein Niederschlagsgewicht
von 322 mg.
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test betrug das Niederschlagsgewicht bei einem Zusatz von 0,01 g zu 100 ecm Öl .16 mg,
während es im zusatzlosen Öl 230'mg betrug.

(hergestellt aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten eines Molekulargewichts von 950) 36,8 Teilen Benzyl sulfinyläthanol
und 400 Teilen Xylol wurde unter Bückflußbedingungen
(etwa 1500C) solange erhitzt, bis die theoretische Menge
Reaktionswasser sich in einem angeschlossenen Abscheider gesammelt hatte. Man erhielt das Endprodukt durch Vakuum strippen
und Filtrieren. Die Azidität betrug 0,02 Milli mol/gj
was eine im wesentlichen vollständige Umwandlung zum Diester anzeigte.
Im "Panel CokerM-Test ergab ein 1,0 $ des obigen
Produktes enthaltendes Gemisch einen .Niederschlag, der 32 mg wog. Das gleiche Öl ohne Additiv führte zu einem Mieder schlag,
der 322 mg wog.
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test zeigten 100 ecm Öl mit einem Zusatz von 0,01 g einen Niederschlag von 26 mg, während
der Niederschlag ija zusatzlosen Öl 230 mg wog.
Ein Gemisch aus 362 Teilen Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid mit einem Anhydridgehalt von 0,276 Millimol/g
(hergestellt aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten des Molekulargewichts 2200), 70,2 Teilen n-Dodecylsulfinylpoly äthoxyäthanol
(das durchschnittlich 10 Äthoxy-Einheit en enthielt)
und 150 Teilen Toluol wurde 12 Stunden unter Kühren auf 90-100°C erhitzt, worauf die vollständige Umsetzung zum
Halbester erfolgt war, was durch das vollständige Verschwinden der Anhydridbande im Infrarotspektrum zum Ausdruck kam.
Das Endprodukt erhielt man durch Vakuum-Strippen der flüchtigen Bestandteile bei 100°c und Filtrieren. Im "Panel Coker"-Test
zeigte ein 1,0 % dea obigen Produktes enthaltendes Ge-

misch ein Niederschlagsgewieht von 80 mg. Das gleiche Öl
ohne Additiv ergab einen niederschlag,-" der 322 mg viog.
Im "Sundstrand Pump»-Test bei Zusatz von 0,01 g zu 100 ecm öl betrug das Gewicht des Niederschlags 16 mg,
während der Niederschlag im Öl ohne Additiv 230 mg wog.
3,0 Teile des obigen Produktes wurden mit 1,0 Teil eines handelsüblichen Zinkdialkyldithiophosphats, 6,4 Teilen
eines handelsüblichen Polymethacrylat Vl-Verbesserungsmittels
und 2,0 Teilen eines basischen Calciumsulfonats
(TBW = 300), 87,6 Teilen eines "150 SUS Mid-Continent Sol vent
Extracted Neutral"-Öls zugesetzt. Die Viskosität dieser Mischung betrug bei 99°C 11,26 cSt. und 79,3 cSt bei
38°C bei einem Viskositätsindex von 143. Der ASTM-Gieß punkt
ist -400C. Im "Sequence V-A "-Test zeigte diese Mischung
nach 75 Stunden Motorbetrieb eine Niederschlagszahl von 68,2 (70,0 = sauber), während der entsprechende Wert
für das zusatzlose Öl 39*7 betrug.
Aus 391 Teilen Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid
mit einem Anhydridgehalt von 0,49 Millimol/g (hergestellt m
aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten des Molekulargewichts . 1300),sowie
aus 137,5 Teilen eines Äthylpolysulfinyl ätheralkohols der Formel B (worin R1 ein Äthyl-, Rp, .Rv '
und. R. ein Äthylenrest sind und η = 5 ist) wurde durch 12-ständiges
Erhitzen der Bestandteile auf 130-145° unter Rühren
ein Halbester hergestellt, Nach Ablauf dieser Zeit wurde
die homogene Lösung unter Vakuum abgestreift und filtriert.
Das Produkt besaß eine Azidität von 0,46 Millimol/g sowie
einen Sehwefelgehalt von 6,73 $>
(Theorie : 7,35).
Im "Panel Ooker-Test ergab ein Gemisch, das 1,0 %
des obigen Produktes als Zusatz enthielt , einen Nieder -

schlag eines Gewichts von 63 mg. Das gleiche Öl ohne
Zusatzinittel enthielt einen Niederschlag, der 322 mg
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test betrug das Gewicht des
Niederschlags bei 0,01 g Zusatzmittel zu 100 ecm Öl 41 mg, während das zusatzlose öl 240 mg Niederschlag ergab.
Ein Gemisch aus 500 Teilen eines Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrids
mit einem Anhydrid-Gehalt von 0,22 Millimol/g (hergestellt aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten
eines iviolekulargewichts von 2400) und 80,2 Teilen
des Sulfinylalkohols des Beispiels 6 wurde 12 Stunden
unter Rühren auf 145° erhitzt. Der Halbester wurde unter Vakuum abgestreift und filtriert. Azidität =0,41 Millimol/g;
io ti= 3,98 (Theorie : 4,3).
Im "Panel Coker"-Test zeigte ein 1,0 $ des obigen
Produkts enthaltendes Gemisch ein Niederschlagsgewicht von 39 mg. Das gleiche Öl ergab ohne den Zusatz ein Niederschlagsgewicht
von 3-22 mg.
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test betrug das Gewicht des Niederscnlags bei einem Zusatz von 0,01 g Additiv zu 100 ecm
Öl 18 mg, während das zusatzlose Öl zu 240 mg Nieder schlag führte·
Aus 491 Teilen eines Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrids
mit einem Anhydrid-Gehalt von 0,217 Millimol/g
(hergestellt aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten des Molekulargewichts von 2200) sowie 141 Teilen eines PoIysulfinylätheralkohols
der Formel B (worin IL ein Äthyl -

rest, R?, R~ und R. Äthylenreste sind und η = 10 ist)
wurde unter lO-stündi^-em Rühren und Erhitzen der beiden
Reaktionsteilnehmer auf 165 0 ein Halbester hergestellt.
Das Produkt -wurde im Vakuum abgestreift und filtriert.
Azidität : 0,16 Millimol/gm.
Im "Panel Coker"-Test ergab ein 1,0 $ des obigen Produktes enthaltendes Gemisch einen Niederschlag von 82 mg.
Das gleiche Öl ohne Additiv ergab einen Wiederschlag, der
322 mg wog. .
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test lieferten 100 ecm Öl, dem
0,01 g Additiv zugegeben worden waren, einen Niederschlag, ™
der 146 mg wog, während das Öl ohne Additiv' 240 mg Niederschlag ergab.
Ein äquimolares Gemisch aus 514 Teilen des PoIybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrids
des Beispiels 6 und 34,6 Teilen von in 300 Teilen Xylol gelöstem bulfinyldiäthanol
wurde unter Rückflußbedingungen 6 Stunden bei 160 C unter
Verwendung eines Wasserabscheiders behandelt, worauf die theoretische Menge Wasser sich angesammelt hatte, was an zeigte,
daß die Umwandlung zum gewünschten Polyester er - M
folgt war. Nach Vakuumstrippen bei 130. und Filtration wurde
das Produkt isoliert, f» S = 1,64 (Theorie : 1,60).
Im "Panel Goker"-Test ergab ein I3Q % des obigen Produktes
enthaltendes Gemisch einen Niederschlag von 91 mg. Das gleiche Öl ohne Additiv ergab 322 mg Niederschlag.
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test ergaben 100 ecm Öl, dem 0,01 g
Additiv zugesetzt worden war, einen Niederschlag von 152 mg,-während
der im zusatzlosen Öl enthaltene Niederschlag 240 mg wog. - .

Ein Gemisch aus 225 Teilen des Polybutenylbernstein Säureanhydrids
des Beispiels 1 und 23,Ö Teilen eines zweiwertigen Polysulfinylätheralkohols der Formel C (worin R-,
und R. Äthylenreste sind und η einen durchschnittlichen
Wert von 3»4 besitzt) wurde 16 Stunden lang unter Rühren
auf 1300G erhitzt zwecks Erzielung einer vollständigen Umsetzung zum gewünschten Halbester. Nach Ablauf der ge nannten
Zeit war das Gemisch vollständig homogen und sein Infrarotspektrum zeigte im wesentlichen keine Anhydrid banden.
Analyse des Endproduktes: # S = 2,43 (Theorie : 2,33). Azidität =0,45 willimol/g.
Im »Panel Coker"-'i!est zeigte ein 1,0 % des obigen
Produkt enthaltendes Gemisch 38 mg Miederschlag, während
das gleiche Öl ohne Additiv einen Niederschlag von 322 mg ergab. Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test betrug das Niederschlagsgewicht
von 100 ecm Öl, dem 0,01 g Additiv zugesetzt waren, 9 mg, während das Öl ohne Additiv 205 mg Nieder schlag
enthielt.
1,6 Teile des obigen Produktes wurden mit 1,0 Teilen eines handelsüblichen Zinkdialkyldithiophosphats und
5,9 Teilen eines handelsüblichen Polymethacrylat-YI-Yer besserungsmittels
vermischt und 91,5 Teilen von "70 SUS Mid-Continent Solvent Extracted Neutral" -Öl zugesetzt.
Die Viskosität dieser Mischung betrug 11,06 cSt bei 99°C und 60,65 eSt bei 37,8°G, bei einem Viskositätsindex von
147. Der ASTM-Gießpunkt betrug -37°C. Im "Sequence VA"-Test
zeigte dieses Gemisch nach 75 Stunden Motorbetrieb einen Niederschlagswert von 65,3 (70,0 = sauber). Für
das zusatzlose Öl betrug der entsprechende Wert 39,7.
Unter 6-stündiger Rückflußbehandlung bei 130-140°G
einer Toluol-Lösung bestehend aus 208 Teilen des"Poly -

butenvlbernsteinsäureanhydrids des Beispiels 1 und 62,3
Teilen des zweiwertigen Polysuliinyläthers der Formel C
(worin R^, und R. Äthylenreste sind und η den Durch. schnittswert
von 4,8 besitzt) wurde ein Polyester hergestellt. Die Anlage war mit einem Wasserabscheider ver sehen
und nach Ablauf der sechsstündigen Reaktionszeit
hatte sich die theoretische foenge Reaktionswasser angesammelt. .Das Reaktionsgemisch wurde im Vakuum destilliert
und filtriert; das Endprodukt enthielt 5»5 % S (Theorie:
6,05).
Im "Panel Coker"-Test zeigte ein 1,0 % des obigen
Produktes enthaltendes Gemisch ein Niederschlags - 4|
gewicht von 16 mg. Das gleiche Öl ohne Additiv ergab ein Niederschlagsgewieht von 322 mg.
Im "Sundstrand Pump"-Test ergaben 100 ecm Öl, dem
0,01 g Additiv zugegeben worden waren, ein Niederschlagsgewicht
von 12 mg, während das zusatzIose öl 230 mg
Niederschlag enthielt.
Ein Gemisch aus 1390 g einer 90 #-igen Polybutenyl-
bernsteinsäureanhydridlösung in Xylol (hergestellt aus μ
Maleinsäureanhydrid und Polybuten des Molekulargewichts
950) mit einem Anhydridgehalt von 0,720 Millimol/g und
130 g tert.-Oetylamin wird 10 Stunden lang gerührt und auf
100°C erhitzt. Nachdem die Lösungsmittel und nicht umgesetztes tert.-Octylamin im Vakuum abdestilliert worden sind,
erhält man das entsprechende Halbamid als Zwischenprodukt
( H 56 = 0,90). Nach dem Verfahren des Beispiels 2 werden
äquimolare Mengen des Halbamids und Äthylsulfinyläthanol
umgesetzt und das erhaltene Produkt im Vakuum abgestrippt und filtriert.
Im "Panel GokerH-Test ergibt ein 1,0 % des obigen
Produkts enthaltendes Gemisch ein Niederschlagsgewicht

von 85 nig. Das gleiche öl ohne Additiv ergibt ein Niederschlagsgewicht
von 322 mg.
Gleichartige Testergebnisse wurden erhalten, wenn man die Verfahren der Beispiele 1 und 12 wiederholte, dabei
jedoch statt Polybuten chloriertes Polypropen eines durchschnittlichen Molekulargewichts von etwa 900 und mit
einem Chlorgehalt von 3,9 % verwendete. Das Polypropenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid
enthielt aufgrund der Analyse 0,91 Millimol Anhydrid je g.

Claims (14)
- Pat entansprü ehe:"1. Sulfinylgruppen enthaltende Alkenyl ■bernsteinsäureester erhältlich ausa) einem Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid, einer Alkenyl-"bernsteinsäure oder einem Alkenylbernsteinaminsäuremonoamid mitb) mindestens einer sulfinylhaltigen Hydroxyverbindung der allgemeinen FormelnIlA) R-, -S-O OIl IlB) R1-S-R2 (OR3-S-R4Jn-OH , AIlC) HO(R5-S-R4O)nHworin y eine ganze Zahl von 1 "bis etwa 50 und n. eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 40, vorzugsweise von 1 bis 10, ist; R1 ein C1- bis C24 -Alkyl-, ein Aryl- oder Aralkylrest mit einer C1 - bis C4 - Alkylgruppe oder ein Alkarylrest mit einer109847/175C-,- "bis Gp^-Allcylgruppe ist; IL, ein Alkylenrest mit 2 bis 5 Kohlenstoffatomen, wobei mindestens 2 Kohlenstoff atome sich als Kette zwischen den benachbarten Schwefel- und Sauerstoffatomen erstrecken, ein Phenylenrest oder ein durch eine niedere Alkylgruppe substituierter Phenylenrest ist, wobei, falls R* und R. ein Phenyl en- oder ein durch eine niedere Alkylgruppe substituierter Phenylenrest sind, η = 1 ist.
- 2. Produkt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekenn zeichnet, daß die Verbindung (a) ein Alkenylbernstein säureanhydrid ist.
- 3« Produkt nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das verwendete Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid ein Polybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid ist.
- 4. Produkt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Alkenylrest der Verbindung (a) 12 bis 200 Kohlenstoffatome enthält.
- 5· Produkt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Verbindung (a) ein Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid und die Verbindung (b) eine Verbindung der Formel A ist.
- 6. Produkt nach Anspruch 5» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das verwendete Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid ein PoIybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid ist.
- 7. Produkt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Verbindung(a) ein Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid und die Verbindung (b) eine Verbindung der Formel A ist, worin Ε, ein Gj- bis C2^ - Alkyl -, Rp ein Äthylenrest und y » 1 isi109847/1751
- 8. Produkt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß"die Verbindung (a) ein Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid und die Verbindung (b) eine Verbindung der Formel G ist, worin R, und R. Äthylenreste sind und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 10 ist,
- 9· Produkt nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das verwendete Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid ein PoIybutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid ist.
- 10. Produkt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Verbindung (a) ein Alkenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid und die Verbindung (b) mindestens eine sulfinylhaltige Hydroxyverbindung der Formel A und mindestens eine sulfinylhaltige Dihydroxyverbindung der Formel C ist.
- 11. Verwendung der Verbindungen gemäß Anspruch 1 als Additive zu Schmiermitteln und Treibstoffen.
- 12. Verwendung nach Anspruch 11, dadurch gekenn zeichnet, daß man einen größeren Teil eines Schmieröls einen kleineren Teil einer Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 1 zu setzt.
- 13. Verwendung nach Anspruch 12* dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man zu einem mineralischen Schmieröl einen kleineren Teil einer Verbindung gemäß Anspruch 5 oder 8zusetzt.109847/1751
