Description
- Borsäurefreier Elektrolyt für Elektrolytkondensatoren Die Erfindung betrifft einen neuen Elektrolyt für Elektrolytkondensatoren, insbesondere für solche mit Aluminiumelektroden. Der Elektrolyt ist borsäurefrei und zeichnet sich nach der Erfindung dadurch aus, daß er aus einem Aluminiumalkoholat sowie aus einem oder mehreren Alkoholen und aus Kationenbildnern besteht.
- Es ist bereits bekannt, Aluminiumalkoholat als Trockenmittel bei Elektrolytkondensatoren als Zusatz zu üblichen Elektrolyten zu verwenden, da dieses bei Einwirkung von Wasser in Alkohol und Metallhydroxyd zerfällt. Diese Anwendung hat nichts mit der vorliegenden Erfindung zu tun, da der erfindungsgemäße Elektrolyt extrem wasserarm ist, so daß eine Hydrolyse des Aluminiumalkoholats nicht eintritt. In erster Linie liegt der Unterschied darin, daß der erfindungsgemäße Elektrolyt aus alkoholischen Alkoxosalzlösungen des Aluminiums besteht, wobei das Aluminiumalkoholat wesentlicher Bestandteil des Elektrolyten ist.
- Aluminiumalkoholate vermögen in alkoholischer Lösung Alkohol zu addieren unter Bildung einer Komplexverbindung mit Säurecharakter (Alkoxosäure). Bezeichnet man einen Alkohol mit ROH, die Alkoxygruppe eines Alkohols mit R0, so bildet sich aus einem Aluminiumalkoholat (Al (0 R)") die Alkoxosäure nach der Reaktionsgleichung: Al (O R)3 -I- ROH z--,n H[Al(OR)4] (1) Derartige Alkoxosäuren sind wenig dissoziiert, und ihre alkoholischen Lösungen besitzen elektrische Leitfähigkeiten von etwa 0,01 ms/cm. Durch Salzbildung wird jedoch der Dissoziationsgrad und damit die elektrische Leitfähigkeit wesentlich erhöht. Durch Umsetzung der Alkoxosäuren mit Metallen (Me) erhält man Alkoxosalze, deren Lösungen in Alkoholen elektrische Leitfähigkeiten von etwa 0,5 bis 2 ms/cm besitzen. Die Bildung eines Alkoxosalzes läßt sich durch die Reaktionsgleichung H [A1(0 R)4] -I- Me =;#!2 Me [Al (O R)4] + 1/2, Hz (2) beschreiben. Sofern das Alkoxosalz in einem Überschuß an Alkohol gelöst ist, wird man folgendes Gleichgewicht anzunehmen haben: Me [A1(0 R)4] + R0 H =:#:=H [A1(0 R)4] + Me0 R (3) Über die Lage des Alkoholysegleichgewichts (3) kann aus Leitfähigkeitsmessungen nicht ohne weiteres eine sichere Aussage gemacht werden. Da Versuche gezeigt haben, daß alkoholische Natrium-Alkoholat-Lösungen zwar eine hohe Leitfähigkeit aufweisen, aber keine Formierfähigkeit haben, so ist anzunehmen, daß bei der formierend wirkenden Lösung gemäß Gleichung (3) das Gleichgewicht weitgehend auf der Seite des Alkoxosalzes liegt. Dementsprechend gelangt man zu den gewünschten Alkoxosalzlösungen auch durch Einarbeiten von Alkalialkoholat in die Alkoxosäurelösung gemäß der von rechts her gelesenen Gleichung (3).
- Aluminiumalkoholate sind im Handel als Aluminiumisopropylat und Aluminium-sec.butylat erhältlich. Nach einigen Voruntersuchungen erwiesen sich diese Präparate für Elektrolyte als ungeeignet, da damit hergestellte Elektrolytgemische eine zu geringe Leitfähigkeit besaßen. Zur Darstellung einiger bei den nachstehenden Untersuchungen* verwendeten Aluminiumalkoholate aus mehrwertigen Alkoholen durch Umesterung wurde allerdings vorwiegend technisches Aluminiumisopropylat als Ausgangsmaterial herangezogen. Folgende Aluminiumalkoholate wurden im einzelnen hergestellt: a) Aluminiummethylglykolat: 1 Mol Aluminiumisopropylat wird in 3 Mol wasserfreiem Methylglykol suspendiert und vorsichtig erhitzt. Über eine Kolonne wird die durch Umesterung erzeugbare Menge (3 Mol) Isopropylalkohol abdestilliert. Im Kolben hinterbleibt als farblose dickflüssige Masse Aluminiummethylglykolat Al(OCHZ - CH, ' OCH3)s Es ist in Methylglykol gut löslich, während Zusätze von Glykol eine gallertige Ausfällung erzeugen. b) Aluminiumglykolate und AI(OCH,CHZOH)3 Aluminiumisopropylat kann mit wasserfreiem Glykol in verschiedenen Mengenverhältnissen umgesetzt werden. Zum Beispiel erhält man durch Erhitzen von 1 Mol Aluminiumisopropylat mit 2 Mol Glykol das Aluminiumdiglykolat, eine farblose, feste Substanz. Praktisch führt man derartige Umsetzungen in einem inerten Lösungsmittel durch, z. B. in Benzol. Beim Abdestillieren ist zu beachten, daß Isopropylalkohol mit Benzol ein azeotrop siedendes Gemisch mit Minimumssiedepunkt von 72°C bildet, das aus 67°/o Benzol und 33 °/o Isopropylalkohol besteht. Man muß also mindestens so viel Benzol einsetzen, daß es ausreicht, die eingebrachte Menge Isopropylalkohol abzudestillieren. Zweckmäßig arbeitet man mit einem Überschuß an Benzol, wodurch eine Überhitzung des Kolbeninhalts am Ende der Destillation vermieden wird. Die Aluminiumglykolate hinterbleiben bei der Reaktion als gallertige Masse. Durch Zusätze von wenig Methylalkohol wird das betreffende Aluminiumalkoholat ausgefällt und kann dann abgesaugt und getrocknet werden.
- c) Aluminiumphenolat enthaltendes Gemisch: 1 Mol Aluminiumisopropylat wird z. B. mit 18 Mol Glykol und 3 Mol Phenol erhitzt bis 3 Mol Isopropylalkohol abdestilhert sind (Umesterung).
- Zur Darstellung von Aluminiumalkoholaten eignen sich neben den bisher erwähnten Alkoholen noch folgende: Isopropanol, sec.Butanol, n-Butanol.
- Mit den Alkoholaten wurden unter anderem folgende Gemische angesetzt:

- Mit den beiden Elektrolyten I und II wurden je zehn Elektrolytkondensatoren für 100/110 V, 20 p.F, angefertigt. Die Wickel der Kondensatoren wurden aus in üblicher Weise vorformierter Folie hergestellt, unter Feuchtigkeitsausschluß in einem verschlossenen Gefäß (mit den Elektrolyten) imprägniert und bei Raumtemperatur nachformiert. Der durchschnittliche Reststrom nach 5 Minuten betrug 17 bis 20 #tA bei Spitzenspannung, der spezifische Reststrom somit 6 bis 7 nA/p.F - V. Die durchschnittliche Kapazität war 27,3 #tF, der Verlustfaktor tgd = 0,09. Je fünf Elektrolytkondensatoren mit den Elektrolyten I und II wurden Messungen bei Temperaturen von -60 bis -1-90°C unterzogen. Die Meßergebnisse für die relativen Kapazitäten Ci9/C"° und für tgb zeigen die Fig. 1 und 2.
- Mit den Elektrolyten III und IV wurden je zehn Kondensatoren für 12/15 V und etwa 73 J gebaut. Die Wickel der Kondensatoren wurden etwa 10 Stunden bei 70°C mit diesen Elektrolyten imprägniert, dann bei Raumtemperatur nachformiert bis auf 2,6 bis 4 V.A. Der Reststrom bei Spitzenspannung betrug nach 5 Minuten 4,8 bis 6,3 #tA, der spezifische Reststrom also 4 bis 6 nA/p,F V. Die Kondensatoren wurden im Dauerversuch bei 85°C mit 12 V 4 Wochen lang belastet. Es wurden dann je zwei Kondensatoren geöffnet; diese zeigen keine Korrosion. Die beiden Elektrolyte III und IV haben den Vorteil, daß sie Gallertkonsistenz aufweisen und dennoch relativ gute elektrische Leitfähigkeiten besitzen. Außerdem haben sie niedrigen Dampfdruck und nicht korrodierende Eigenschaften; sie eignen sich daher als NV-Betriebselektrolyte für hohe Betriebstemperaturen.
- Der erfindungsgemäße Elektrolyt kann auch zum Vorformieren einer Kondensatorelektrode verwendet werden, da sich herausstellte, daß die blanken Schnittkanten der beim Wickeln verwendeten Folie mit einer guten Formierschicht bedeckt wurden.
- Der erfindungsgemäße Elektrolyt- besitzt den Vorteil, daß in ihm keine Bestandteile mit hohem Dampfdruck (wie Wasser, Ammoniak oder niedrigsiedende Borsäureester) vorliegen. Er ist daher für Elektrolytkondensatoren geeignet, welche bei Temperaturen von mehr als 70°C betrieben werden sollen.
- Gegenüber den bekannten Elektrolyten hat der erfindungsgemäße Elektrolyt den Vorteil, daß er sowohl für Kondensatoren für tiefe Temperaturen, beispielsweise -30°C, als auch für höhere Temperaturen, wie -1-85°C und mehr, geeignet ist.
- Die Gallertkonsistenz der unter III und IV beschriebenen Elektrolyte mit ihren relativ guten Leitfähigkeiten bietet weitere Vorteile. Schließlich sei hervorgehoben, daß der neue Elektrolyt infolge seiner extremen Wasserfreiheit keine korrodierenden Eigenschaften besitzt.

- PATENTANSPRÜCHE: 1. Borsäurefreier Elektrolyt für Elektrolytkondensatoren, insbesondere für solche mit Aluminiumelektroden, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Elektrolyt aus einem Aluminiumalkoholat sowie aus einem oder mehreren Alkoholen und aus Kationenbildnern besteht.
- 2. Elektrolyt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das im Elektrolyt enthaltene Aluminiumalkoholat aus einem einwertigen Alkohol, wie Isopropanol, Butanol-(1), Butanol-(2), Methylglykol, Äthylglykol oder Phenol, hergestellt ist.
- 3. Elektrolyt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das im Elektrolyt enthaltene Aluminiumalkoholat aus einem mehrwertigen Alkohol, wie Glykol, Glycerin, 1,4-Butandiol, 1,2-Propandiol, hergestellt ist.
- 4. Elektrolyt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der im Elektrolyt enthaltene Alkohol Methanol,Äthanol,1,2-Propandiol,1,3-Propandiol, Glykol ist.
- 5. Elektrolyt nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das im Elektrolyt enthaltene Kation von einem Alkali- oder Erdalkalimetall gebildet wird. In Betracht gezogene Druckschriften: Schweizerische Patentschrift Nr. 297 165.
