Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von durch komplexe Mischsalze verdickten Schmierfetten
sowie die nach diesem Verfahren hergestellten Schmierfette. Insbesondere bezieht sich die Erfindung auf ein verbessertes
Verfahren zur Herstellung von mit Hilfe komplexer Mischsalze verdickten Schmierfetten, nach
welchem man ein homogenes und praktisch kornfreies (oder grießfreies) Erzeugnis erhält.
Das als Verdicker dienende komplexe Mischsalz wird durch Neutralisation erstens einer organischen und bzw.
oder anorganischen Säure niedrigen Molekulargewichts und zweitens einer Fettsäure hohen und bzw. oder mittleren
Molekulargewichts mit einer Metallbase gebildet. Der komplexe Mischsalzverdicker wird also aus einer der
folgenden Säurekombinationen hergestellt:
a) niedrigmolekulare Säure und hochmolekulare Säure;
b) niedrigmolekulare Säure und Säure mittleren MoIekulargewi
chtes;
c) luedrigmolekulare Säure, Säure mittleren Molekulargewichtes
und hochmolekulare Säure.
Das üblichste Verfahren des Standes der Technik zur Herstellung dieser komplexen Mischsalzverdicker besteht
in der gemeinsamen Neutralisation eines Säuregemisches. Bei dem Verfahren der gemeinsamen Neutralisation wird
ein Gemisch von Säuren niedrigen und hohen und bzw. oder mittleren Molekulargewichts mit geeigneten Basen,
insbesondere mit den Hydroxyden und bzw. oder Carbonaten der entsprechenden Metalle neutralisiert. Diese
gemeinsame Neutralisation wird im allgemeinen in einem Fettkessel »in situ.; in dem gleichen flüssigen Medium ausgeführt,
für welches die Komplexverbindung als Verdicker dienen soll. Beispielsweise kann das Säuregemisch in einem
Teil des Schmieröls oder in dem gesamten Schmieröl, welches als Dispergiermittel für das mit Hilfe des Mischsalzkomplexes
zu verdickende Schmierfett dienen soll, gemeinsam neutralisiert werden. Die gemeinsame Neutralisation
ist in denjenigen Fällen möglich, in denen die Salze den gleichen Metallbestandteil besitzen und das
flüssige Medium unter den Bedingungen der Verseifung oder Neutralisation inert ist. Das gemeinsam neutralisierte
Material kann dann vor der Verwendung auf etwa 120 bis 2880C erhitzt werden, um das Produkt zu dehydratisieren
und in gewissen Fällen, z.B. wenn man mit einem Erdalkalihydrat arbeitet, die Komplexbildung zu beschleunigen.
Man hat auch bereits Mischsalzkomplexe hergestellt, indem man zunächst mindestens einen Teil des Carbonsäuresalzes
hohen und bzw. oder mittleren Molekulargewichtes gesondert erzeugte, dieses Salz dann mit dem
Salz der Säure niedrigen Molekulargewichts innig mischte und das Gemisch nötigenfalls erhitzte. Dieses Verfahren
ist weniger vorteilhaft als die gemeinsame Neutralisation und ist vom praktischen Gesichtspunkt nur dann zweckmäßig,
wenn man zur Bildung der veischiedenen Salze verschiedene Metalle verwendet.

Es ist weiterhin bekannt, daß man Mischsalzkomplexe, die in einem flüssigen Dispergier- oder Lösungsmittel
hergestellt sind, durch Lösungsmittelextraktion des Di-
spergiermittels mit einem Lösungsmittel isolieren kann, in welchem die Salzkomplexe unlöslich sind. Hierfür geeignete
Lösungsmittel sind z. B. Kohlenwasserstoffe, Alkohole, Ketone usw., wobei die richtige Wahl von den Löslichkeitseigenschaften
und dem zur Dispergierung des Komplexes
verwendeten flüssigen Medium abhängt. Dieses Verfahren wird jedoch selten angewandt, da es zweckmäßiger ist,
den Komplexverdicker unmittelbar in dem gleichen Schmiermittel, zu dessen Verdickung er dienen soll, durch
gemeinsame Neutralisation zu erzeugen.
Obwohl das Verfahren der gemeinsamen Neutralisation das bevorzugte Verfahren zur Erzeugung komplexer
Mischsalzverdicker des gleichen Metalls darstellt, weist es doch den Nachteil auf, daß man bei Anwendung bestimmter
niedrigmolekularer Säuren zur Bildung des
Kornplexverdickers »grießige« (oder körnige) Schmierfette
(d. h. Schmierfette, die kleine, harte Teilchen enthalten) erhält. So findet z. B. bei der Herstellung von Schmierfetten,
die mit einem komplexen Mischsalzverdicker gedickt sind, in welchem Essigsäure die niedrigmolekulare,
zur Komplexbüdung dienende Säure und Kalkhydrat die Metallbase ist, eine besonders starke und äußerst unerwünschte
Grießbildung statt. Dieser Grieß rührt offenbar von der Umsetzung der niedrigmolekularen Säure mit der
Metallbase unter Bildung eines Salzes her, welches an der

Komplexbildung nicht teilnimmt, d. h. welches sich mit der hochmolekularen Säure und bzw. oder der Säure
mittleren Molekulargewichts nicht weiter umsetzt. Es scheint, daß sich diese Grießkörner rings um Tröpfchen
der niedrigmolekularen Säure herum bilden, die mit der Metallbase bereits reagiert, bevor die Tröpfchen durch den
langsamen Mischvorgang in dem Fettkessel endgültig dispergiert sind. Wenn sich dieser grießartige Stoff einmal
gebildet hat, läßt er sich durch Verkochen nicht mehr dispergieren oder entfernen, und durch Vermählen oder
Homogenisieren wird lediglich die Teilchengröße verkleinert, ohne daß die Teilchen selbst verschwinden. Man
kann die Grießteilchen zwar durch Filtrieren entfernen; dies ist jedoch nicht vorteilhaft, da es zum Materialverlust
führt und beim Betrieb einer Anlage infolge der raschen Verstopfung des Filters unpraktisch ist.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß die Menge und Größe dieser Grießkörner zum Grad der Dispergierung oder der Durchmischung
während des Zusatzes der niedrigmolekularen Säure zu dem die Metallbase enthaltenden Gemisch in
Beziehung stehen. Die Erfindung betrifft daher ein verbessertes Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser komplexen
Mischsalzverdicker, welches die Bildung unerwünschter Gneßteüchen vermeidet oder mindestens erheblich vermindert.
Als hochmolekulare Carbonsäuren kommen im Rahmen ir Erfindurig'o'iegesät'tigten und ungesättigten, nach dem

5'/,2 Fettsäuren in Betracht. Im allgemeinen enthalten diese
Fettsäuren etwa 12 bis 30, vorzugsweise etwa 12 bis 22 C-Atome im Molekül und besitzen Verseifungszahlen
von etwa 300 bis 150. Geeignete Fettsäuren sind z. B. ■-..yLaurinsäure, Myristinsäure, Palmitinsäure, Stearinsäure,

Fettsäuren, wie Fischölsäuren, Talgsäuren, Kokosnußölsäuren, unmittelbar oder nach" einer iwecks
Herabsetzung einer zu hohen Anzahl von Doppelbindungen ausgeführten Hydrierung verwenden. Gemische dieser
hochmolekularen Fettsäuren, z. B. hydrierter Fischölsäwren, mit Oleinsäure in jedem Mengenverhältnis sowie
durch Destillation, Extraktion oder Kristallisation erhaltene Fraktionen sind ebenfalls verwendbar.
Die Monocarbonsäuren mittleren Molekulargewichtes
sind die gefadKettigen, gesättigten" Fettsäuren mit 7 bis
10 C-Atomen im Molekül. Verwendbai e Carbonsäuren mittleren Molekulargewichtes sind z. B.

Caprylsäure und Pelargonsäure werden bevorzugt. Die Carbonsäuren mittleren Molekulargewichtes mit gerader
Anzahl von Kohlenstoffatomen werden normalerweise durch Verarbeitung in der Natur vorkommender Rohstoffe,
wie Kokosnußöl, erhalten, Pelargonsäure fällt als Nebenprodukt bei der Herstellung von Azelainsäure an und
bildet sich auch durch Ozonolys? von Oleinsäure.
Zu den geeigneten Säuren niederen Molekulargewichtes
gehören gesättigte "und ungesättigte afiphatische Monocarbonsäuren
mit 1 bis 6 C-Ätomen im Molekül, wie Ameisensäure, Essigsäure, Propionsäure, Furancarbonsäure, Acrylsäure
und ähnliche Säuren einschließlich der Oxufsäuren, wie Milchsäure usw. Gesättigt? Carbonsäuren
mit 1 bis 3 C-Atomen im Molekül werden bevorzugt. Ameisensäure und insbesondere Essigsäure werden besonders

Salpetersäure und bzw. oder Schwefelsäure, verwenden. Essigsäure, die besonders bevorzugt wird, kann als Eisessig
oder in konzentrierter wäßriger Lösung angewandt
ίο werden.
Als Metaükomponenten der Mischsalze kommen die Metalle der Gruppe II des Periodischen Systems, wie
Calcium, Magnesium, Barium und Strontium, in Betracht. Sie könnenTn Form einer"ll"3taUbase, d. h. als Oxyde,
Hydroxyde oder Carbonate, angewandt werden. Calciumhydroxyd oder Kalkhydrat wird besonders bevorzugt.
Als Schmieröle kommen Mineralschmieröle oder verschiedene
synthetische öle in Betracht. Mineralschmieröle mit Viskositäten von etwa" 30 bis 1000 SUS bei 37,80C
werden als flüssige Phase der Schmierfette nach der Erfindung bevorzugt. Diese. Mineralschmieröle natürlichen
Ursprungs können von beliebigen paraffinischen oder naphthenischen Erdölen abgeleitet und nach an sich in der
Erdölindustrie bekannten Verfahren raffiniert sein.
Die Erfindung ist jedoch nicht auf die Verwendung von Mineralölen beschränkt, sondern man kann als flüssige
Phase des Schmierfettes oder als Teil derselben auch verschiedene synthetischeÖlejnit Viskositäten von min-
Heitens 3D SÜS bei 37,80C verwenden. Beispiele derartiger
synthetischer Schmieröle sind Ätheralkohole, z. B. diejenigen der allgemeinen Formel
RO(CnH2nO)^H
in welcher R eine Alkylgruppe, z. B. Butyl, η eine ganze
Zahl von 2 bis 5 und χ eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 40 bedeutet; Ester von Monocarbonsäuren, die insgesamt
20 bis 80 C-Atome enthalten7iTBTEster ^aBphätischer
C4- bis Cjg-Säuren mit aliphatischen C4- bis Cjg-Äikoholen,
wobei die C^ bis> C18-Keste z. B. Butyl,- Isobutyl-, Hexyl-,
Octyl-, Isooctyl-, 2-Äthylhexyl-, Nonyl-, Decyl-, Lauryl-,
Stearyl- und ähnliche Reste sein können; Diester von
Dicarbonsäuren, wie Adipinsäure oder Sebacinsäure, mit
einwertigen AlEoholen, wie Hexyl-, Octyl-, 2-Äthylhexyl-J5
alkohol oder höheren Alkoholen ;_Ester von Polyäthylen;
glykolen mit verzweigtkettigen C8- bis Cjg-Cärbonsäuren;

Die Schmierfette nach der Erfindung können aus etwa 50 bis 97 Gewichtsprozent Schmieröl und etwa 3 bis
50 Gewichtsprozent des Verdickerkomplexes hergestellt werden. Ein bevorzugter Bereich ist etwa 10 bis 30 Gewichtsprozent
des Verdickerkomplexes, bezogen auf die Gewichtsmenge der Gesamtvermisehung. Der Verdickerkomplex
seinerseits wird aus 1 Mol der Säure hohen und bzw. oder mittleren Molekulargewichtes, etwa 3 bis 15 Mol,
vorzugsweise 5 bis 12 Mol, der Säure niedrigen Molekulargewichtes und etwa 2 bis 8 Mol, vorzugsweise 3 bis 6 Mol,
der Metallbase hergestellt.

Essigsäurelösung durch Leitung 4 der Zahnradpumpe 5 zugeführt, von der sie mit einer Geschwindigkeit von
25 g/Min, durch Leitung 6 in den Mischer 3 gefördert wird.
Das aus dem Mischer 3 durch die Austrittsleitung 7 ausströmende Fett befindet sich auf einer Temperatur von
62 bis 66° C und ist gut dispergiert. Dieses Produkt gelangt in den Erhitzer 8, wo es im Verlaufe von etwa 50 Sekunden
auf 149°C erhitzt wird. Der aus dem Erhitzer austretende Strom wird dann mit dem l3/2fachen seiner Gewichtsmenge an weiterem Mineralöl verdünnt. Als Oxydations-
verzögerer wird Phenyl-a-naphthylamin in einer Menge
von 0,5 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Gesamtmasse, zugesetzt. Ein Teil (Beispiel 1 A) wird
1 Stunde lang bei 2380C in einem direkt beheizten und
mit Rührern versehenen Kessel verkocht. Ein anderer Teil (Beispiel 1 B) wird in einer kontinuierlichen Kochvorrichtung
verkocht, wo das Gut zunächst in einem Wärmeaustauscher auf etwa 204 bis 232° C erhitzt, dann in einem
Erhitzer weiter auf etwa 260 bis 266° C zwecks Komplexbildung erhitzt, darauf beim Durchfluß durch einen
Wärmeaustauscher auf etwa 107 bis 135° C gekühlt und schließlich durch einen Kühler geleitet wird, wo es weiter
auf 66 bis 1210C gekühlt wird. Sodann wird das Fett
an der Luft auf Zimmertemperatur erkalten gelassen. Die physikalischen Eigenschaften der nach den obigen Beispielen
hergestellten Schmierfette sind in der folgenden Tabelle zusammengestellt:

Kokosnußfettsäuren erhaltenen leichten Fraktion, die 24,5 Gewichtsprozent Caprylsäure, 57,8% Caprinsäure
und 17,5 °/0 Laurinsäure enthält, durch Leitung 4 der Zahnradpumpe 5 zugeführt. Das Säuregemisch wird von
der Zahnradpumpe 5 durch Leitung 6 in den Mischer 3 gefördert.
Das Verhältnis der Pumpgeschwindigkeiten der beiden Zahnradpumpen 1 und 5 ist so bemessen, daß 3 Gewichtsteile der Aufschlämmung je Gewichtsteil des Säuregemisches
gefördert werden. Das durch Leitung 7 aus dem Mischer 3 austretende Produkt ist ein dickes Gel.
Dieses Produkt gelangt durch Leitung 7 in den Erhitzer 8, wo es durch Erhitzen auf etwa 160° C im Verlaufe von
Minuten dehydratisiert und darauf in eine Vakuumdehydratiesieranlage (Cornell Homogenizer) entspannt
wird. Dann wird dem Produkt 38 Gewichtsprozent weiteres Mineralöl, bezogen auf die Gewichtsmenge des
aus dem Mischer 3 austretenden Produktes, zusetzt. Das so erhaltene Gemisch wird zwecks Bildung des Verdickerkomplexes
im Verlaufe von etwa 60 Sekunden auf 260° C erhitzt. Das Schmierfett hat die folgenden Eigenschaften

Wie sich aus der obigen Tabelle ergibt, zeigt das nach dem Stande der Technik verdickte Schmierfett Grießteilchen
mit einem maximalen Durchmesser von 0,10 mm. Dieses Fett ist grob und besaß einen ausgesprochenen
körnigen Griff. Die Fette nach Beispiel IA und IB der
Erfindung sind glatt und homogen im Aussehen, besaßen einen maximalen Grießkomdurchmesser von 0,02 mm
und haben keinen körnigen Griff, sondern sind glatt und salbenartig.
Es wird eine Aufschlämmung durch Mischen der folgenden Bestandteile hergestellt:
Gewichtsprozent Coastal-Mineralöl (hellfarbig);
Viskosität 500 SUS bei 37,8° C 81,5
Kalkhydrat; 98,5 Gewichtsprozent Ca(OH)2 18,5
Die Aufschlämmung wird durch Leitung la der Zahnradpumpe 1 zugeführt, von wo sie durch Leitung 2 in
den Mischer 3 gepumpt wird (der aus der gleichen Gould-Zentrifugalpumpe
bestand wie im Beispiel 1). Gleichzeitig wird ein Säuregemisch aus 2 Gewichtsteilen 99°/0igem
Eisessig und 1 Gewichtsteil der bei der Destillation von
Grieß nicht vorhanden

Das in Tabelle 2 beschriebene Fett besitzt ein glattes und homogenes Aussehen und ist vollständig frei von
Körnern.
Claims (4)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Schmierfetten, die mit einem \7erdickerkomplex gedickt sind, welcher
aus erstens einem Metallsalz einer niedrigmolekularen organischen Säure mit 1 bis 6 C-Atomen im Molekül
und bzw. oder einer anorganischen Säure, wie Salzsäure, Phosphorsäure, Salpetersäure, Schwefelsäure, und
zweitens einem Metallsalz einer Carbonsäure hohen Molekulargewichtes mit 12 bis 30 C-Atomen im Molekül
und bzw. oder einer Carbonsäure mittleren Molekulargewichtes mit 7 bis 10 C-Atomen im Molekül
besteht, wobei die Metallsalze durch Neutralisation der Säuren mit einem Oxyd, Hydroxyd oder Carbonat
von Metallen der Gruppe II des Periodischen Systems als Metallbase in mindestens einem Teil des Schmieröls
gebildet und die Metallsalze anschließend auf eine Temperatur erhitzt werden, bei der Komplexbildung
erfolgt, und anschließend gekühlt werden, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man zunächst eine Aufschlämmung
der Metallbase in mindestens einem Teil des Schmieröls bildet und in dieser Aufschlämmung eine
niedrigmolekulare Säure in Form von Tröpfchen eines Teilchendurchmessers von weniger als 0,05 mm innig
dispergiert, wobei die übiigen Carbonsäuren entweder zusammen mit der niedrigmolekularen organischen
Säure bzw. der anorganischen Säure oder mit der Metallbase oder als dritter «Strom« zugegeben werden.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die niedrigmolekulare Säure in
Form von Tröpfchen eines Teilchendurchmessers von weniger als 0,03 mm dispergiert.
3. Verfahren nach den Ansprüchen 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man mit einer Aufschlämmung
arbeitet, die außerdem die Säure hohen Molekular-
gewichtes und bzw. oder die Säure mittleren Molekulargewichtes enthält.
4. Verfahren nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man einen Strom der Aufschlämmung
in eine Mischzone einführt, die bei einer Schergeschwindigkeit von etwa 5000 bis 100000 Sek."1,
insbesondere etwa 5000 bis 30000 Sek."1, und mit
einer Eingangsenergie von etwa 0,22 bis 66, insbesondere etwa 11 bis 33 PS-Sek./kg des in die Mischzone
eingeführten Materials arbeitet, und gleichzeitig in die Mischzone einen Strom der niecirigmolekularen Säure
einführt.
