Abstract

Μια ηλεκτροχρωμική διάταξη, περιέχουσα δύο πλάκες ή μεμβράνες, από τις οποίες τουλάχιστον μία είναι διαφανής, και οι οποίες είναι εφοδιασμένες με ένα αγώγιμο στρώμα στις πλευρές που είναι στραμμένες η μία προς την άλλη, όπου τουλάχιστον ένα των αγώγιμων στρωμάτων είναι διαφανές, όπου μέσω των πλακών ή μεμβρανών και ενός στεγανοποιητικού δακτυλίου ορίζεται ένας όγκος, στον οποίο βρίσκεται ένα ηλεκτροχρωμικό μέσο, το οποίο περιέχει τουλάχιστον μία αναγώγιμη ένωση ΟΧ2 και τουλάχιστον μια οξειδώσιμη ένωση RED1, οι οποίες μετατρέπονται μέσω πρόσληψης ηλεκτρονίων στην κάθοδο ή απελευθέρωσης ηλεκτρονίων στην άνοδο στις αντίστοιχες οξειδοαναγωγικές τους καταστάσεις RED2 και OX1 όπου μετά την εξίσωση φορτίων μεταξύ RED2 και ΟΧ1 δημιουργούνται κάθε φορά ξανά οι αρχικές οξειδοαναγωγικές καταστάσεις ΟΧ2 και RED1, που χαρακτηρίζεται από το ότι τουλάχιστον ένα RED1 ή ένα ΟΧ2 είναι μια ηλεκτροχρωμική ένωση, στην οποία δύο ίδιες ή διαφορετικές χρωστικές μονάδες είναι συνδεδεμένες μέσω τουλάχιστον μιας γέφυρας κατά τέτοιο τρόπο, ώστε κατά την οξείδωση ή αναγωγή μεταξύ των δύο μονάδων σχηματίζεται ή διασπάται ένας σ-δεσμός με αλλαγή χρώματος της σχετικής ένωσης, χαρακτηρίζεται από βελτιωμένες ιδιότητες.
