Description
本发明是关于一种在整个光学纤维上含有金属涂层的光学纤维的制造方法,用该方法制造的纤维至少在外围涂一种合成树脂,并提供一个导电层,随后在其上面电镀金属涂层。
具有合成树脂底涂层和紧接其上面涂金属层的光学纤维本身已为人们所知。在光学玻璃纤维上形成一种金属涂层,以便保护光学纤维不受水和水蒸汽的侵蚀。
已经提出了一种光学玻璃纤维,涂敷有合成树脂涂层,具有导电材料粉末和聚合物的混合物,并在其上面采用电镀法金属涂层。在这个方法中,镀金属层之前必须把导电层进行干燥(参见日本公开专利57-124308的摘要)。导电材料和聚合物的混合物层,本生就具有相当高的电阻。正因为这个原因,在电镀的时候,必须选择相当低的电流密度,否则在电导层所产生的热能太多。因此,采用这种已知的方法,则要求高速度电镀是不可能的,所以不适用于连续的工艺。另一个缺点,该工艺是以两个工序进行的,而这两个工序很难连接成单个连续工艺。另外别的问题,相当厚的导电层难保证同心。
本发明的目的是提供本文所公开的那种类型的方法,本方法尽可能避免已知方法中的缺点。而且可以实现连续工艺。
根据本发明,其目的是通过如下方法实现的。该方法的特征在于,在一个连续的工艺中,使一个金属的导电层或金属氧化物的导电层涂敷在纤维的外周,然后在水浴槽中通过电镀法,形成一个金属层。
根据本发明,其方法的优点包括,可以在不提高温度的情况下形成金属涂层,因为提高温度,对光学纤维的性能是有害的,并且根据本发明的方法,能够连续地、并与已知的工艺相比更容易地得到同心金属涂层。
根据本发明的方法,可以用不同的方式所实现。首先,在合成树脂底涂层上,形成一个导电材料的薄层。适合于方法的一个例子是无电的金属镀,使金属涂层通过上述的金属盐还原,在水浴槽中沉积在纤维上。以这个方式可提供的合适的金属,例如,是银、铜、镍、钴、金以及锡等。
纤维上形成薄导电层,通过在纤维上沉积导电氧化物薄层,例如氧化铟、氧化锡以及类似的氧化物的方法是可能的。为了这个目的,纤维的表面在潮湿的空气中,与相对应的氧化物或在挥发溶剂中的它们的溶液相接触,在这些成份中,氧化物形成导电层。
当然,导电薄层也可以由物理和化学气相沉积法(PVD,CVD)以及溅射法得到。但在这些工艺中,沉积期间有时释放出热能,导致合成树脂涂层下面的底层会受到危害。因为这些工艺必须在与大气隔绝的空间中或真空中实现,所以既不可能连续地进行沉积工艺,也不可能与工艺中的下一步工序,即金属层的电镀合在一起。
所有上述的涂敷方法,特别是无电金属镀工艺,它具有的优点,是它毫无问题地提供导电性能较高的同心的均匀导电层。
在方法的下一阶段中,进行电镀使纤维具有金属涂层。原则上,该涂层可以是能够电镀的任何金属。几个金属的涂层,也可以在其它的某个涂层上形成。代替纯金属,同样可以提供适合于该目的的合金。当该涂层,由柔软的金属或柔软合金组成的时候,就如所提到的铅、锡和它们的合金是有利的。
根据本发明方法的最佳实施方案,具有合成树脂底涂层的纤维,是在第一阶段连接地连行无电金属镀,而在第二阶段连续电镀金属层。为了这个目的,使纤维连续地通过若干个交替的沉积槽和水浴槽。如果必要,使该纤维可以几次通过同一沉积槽,以便形成一个足够厚的涂层。
根据本发明特别好的实施方案,金属层至少在两个相继步骤中,在导电层上连续形成电沉积,这两个相继的步骤中,电流密度有所增加,并使金属涂层的纤维通电。以如此低的电流密度时,一开始就能金属化,没有使纤维温度过高而引起的危险。由于金属在相继的工序中变厚,在每一步骤中的电流密度,根据增加的电导而增加。于是在每一步骤中可以控制温度。电流的密度也可以在每一步骤中分别进行控制。其实验结果,就能以很少的步骤迅速地制成相当厚的金属层。
在导致本发明的实验中,发现在几个水浴槽中的停留时间如此之短,以致使水不能渗入到纤维的合成树脂涂层中;当沉积金属层的时候,已经形成了一个不渗透性的金属层,厚度大约为0.05微米。这个厚度,在与水浴槽中的水接触时,足以形成耐久的阻挡层。金属层的进一步加厚(既使有的话),也只能用来填充微孔。
现在参照附图进一步详细介绍本发明。附图中的图1给出了本发明方法的一个实施示意图,图2是通过本方法实施所得到的纤维剖视图。
从预制件拉制后,使其具有合成树脂底涂层的光学纤维,例如包括紫外线处理过的丙烯酸酯树脂,厚度为60微米底涂层的光学纤维,从绕纱框引出,穿过槽子T,该槽装有每升含1克丹宁的去离子水溶液。然而,每升中的丹宁的量可选择为0.01~10克/升。纤维从槽子T中带出的溶液,在含有去离子水的水浴槽H1中进行洗浴。由于丹宁在合成树脂表面上的作用,得到了对金属层更好的连接。
这个预处理,也可以将合成树脂表面暴露到放电的电晕中处理,或用丹宁任意处理。
以这种方式处理其合成树表面,然后引出的纤维通过包含每升水中0.1克的SnCl2·2Ag+0.1毫升HCl(37%)溶液的槽S,以锡的氯化物溶液进行处理。该槽S中,使合成树脂表面具有Sn2+核。象这样的涂层,也可以由所说的溶液的喷镀方法获得。在含有去离子水的水浴槽H2中,将过量的SnCl2洗掉。
然后,用常规的方式,使光学纤维的表面具有银涂层,最好是根据气溶胶工艺(雾化),其中银盐的水溶液,例如AgNO3和NH4OH的水溶液,以及一种还原剂的水溶液例如福尔马林溶液,以及如果需要的话,葡萄糖酸钠水溶液,同时喷雾在表面上(槽A)。该工艺,以及金属镀液和所用的还原剂溶液,已经公开,例如在(“气溶胶喷镀技术工艺”)“The technology of aerosol plating”,Donald J.Levy,Technical Proceedings 5lst Annual Convention American Electroplaters'Society 14-18 June,St.Louis 1964,PP.139-149。许多化学喷镀是商品化了的,例如,由Ermax和London Loboratories Ltd.或Merk的。
接触时间,最多为1分钟。用这个方法,在纤维上沉积银涂层,厚度为0.1微米到1微米。该纤维进入水浴槽H3,在槽内,冲洗从A处带出的液体。然后镀银的光学纤维在槽N中电镀2微米厚的镍层。该槽装有氨基磺酸镍水溶液,该溶液每升中含80克的镍,溶液的PH值用硼酸调整为4.5。以槽内的镍为阴极,以纤维上的银层为阳极。根据空间的容积实现电镀,使纤维穿过该槽一次或若干次,直到获得所要求的镍层厚度为止。在得到所需要镍层厚度之后,使该纤维导入水浴槽H4,在该槽中,由槽N带出的液体用去离子水冲洗。随后,在槽P中,在镍层上面电镀具有40%的Pb,其余为Sn的铅-锡合金。该槽装有Sn(BF4)和Pb(BF4)2的水溶液。该溶液,通过硼酸调整PH≤1。该槽中的水溶液含大约100克/升的Sn和50克/升的铅。该纤维穿过槽,至到沉积足够厚的铅-锡合金层为止。具有金属层的纤维在水浴槽H5中进行冲洗,然后经过干燥空间D,以暖空气将纤维干燥。然后将该纤维绕在绕纱框上。最好是使该纤维至少二次通过槽N,并且在这二个步骤之间的电流密度增加1倍。
图2是最终的纤维剖视图,该纤维由直径50微米的掺杂GeO2石英玻璃芯1组成,以这种方式掺杂的芯部的折射率分布,由芯的圆周沿着轴向以一个抛物曲线增加。该纤维的皮2,由没有掺杂的石英玻璃组成,厚度为37.5微米。
根据本发明方法用的纤维组成和制造本身是没有特殊性。用单膜纤维和阶梯型折射率纤维,以及不同尺寸和玻璃或合成树脂不同类型的纤维,都同样能很好地实现该工艺。
厚度为60微米的合成树脂涂层3,从预制件拉制成纤维后,在其上面即可形成。适合于该目的的合成树脂也能适合于电镀。例如,紫外线(UV)或电子束(E.B)熟化丙烯酸酯树脂。例如,聚氨基甲酸酯,丙烯酸酯,环氧丙烯酸酯或聚丙烯酸酯为基质,也可以使用熟化的硅胶或环氧树脂。
厚度为0.2微米的银层4,厚度为2微米的镍层5,以及铅-锡合金(40%Pb,其余为Sn)层6,连续地形成在合成树脂涂层3上面。这些金属涂层的总的厚度大约为10-20微米。
在实施中叙述了根据本发明的光学纤维,如何涂敷金属层。完全由合成纤维树脂组成的光学纤维,也可以用相似的方法形成金属涂层。
根据本发明方法制成具有金属涂层的纤维,能够耐水和水蒸汽。该金属涂层的纤维不吸收任何静电负荷,结果提高了加工能力。提高了完全含有合成树脂的纤维尺寸的稳定性。
Claims (4)
1、一种在整个光学纤维上含有金属涂层的光学纤维的制造方法,该方法中的纤维至少包括在其外周的合成树脂,配有一个导电层,并在其上面电镀金属涂层,其特征在于,用连续的工艺,在纤维的外周形成金属的导电层或金属氧化物的导电层,然后在水浴槽中通过电镀形成金属层。
2、按照权利要求1的方法,其特征在于使纤维通过无电金属镀水槽,在该纤维的外周连续沉积导电层。
3、按照权利要求2的方法,其特征在于在水浴槽中通过无电金属镀,在纤维外周上镀银、铜、钴、镍、金或锡。
4、按照权利要求1的方法,其特征在于在水浴槽中通过电镀,至少在两个相继的步骤中,并向涂有导电金属层的纤维通电,增加电流密度,从而在导电层上连续地形成金属层。
