Abstract

Description

具有带最佳润滑剂粘性的氢化轴承 磁盘驱动器主轴电动机
本发明涉及磁盘驱动器数据存储装置用的主轴电动机,具体地说,涉及主轴电动机内流体动力轴承用的最适宜润滑液。
公知为“文切斯特”(“winchester”)型磁盘驱动器的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置在工业上是众所周知的。在文切斯特磁盘驱动器中,将数字数据写入转动的磁盘表面上的可磁化材料薄层中,并从其读取之。写入和读取操作是通过被装入滑座主体中的转换器实现的。有时将滑座及转换器总称为磁头,而且通常使一个单独的磁头与每个盘面联系起来。借助一个致动机构,在电子电路控制下,使各磁头以选择方式移动到盘面上多个环形的同心数据磁轨中的任一个。每个滑座主体都包括一个自作用气垫面。随着磁盘的转动,磁盘拖带所述气垫面底下的空气,加大了升力,这一升力引起滑座在盘面上方升起几个微英寸。
在磁盘驱动器制品的通行制作过程中,最为通用的致动机构类型是旋转移动线圈致动机构。磁盘本身通常被安装于无刷直流主轴电动机的轴套结构上的“组套”中。主轴电动机的转速由电机驱动电路精确地控制,既控制引向电机定子绕组的整流信号的时间,也控制其能量。通常的主轴电动机转速在3600RPM范围内。如今的技术已将主轴电动机的转速提高到7200RPM、10000RPM,乃至更高。
磁盘驱动器数据存储装置内的主要噪声源之一就是主轴电动机。磁盘驱动器的制造者近来已开始考虑在主轴电动机内以诸如流体动力轴承或流体静力轴承等“氢化”轴承替代常规的滚珠轴承或滚柱轴承。氢化轴承依靠一个液膜,所述液膜将轴承各表面分开,因而是非常消音的,而且,一般说来,这种氢化轴承比普通滚珠轴承的振动更小。流体动力轴承是一种自充式轴承,它在内部产生压力,用以维持所述液膜的分开作用。为维持液体的分开作用,流体静力轴承需要外部加压液体源。氢化轴承内轴承各面间的相对运动使之成为一个完全存在于所述液膜内的剪切部件,使轴承各面间不发生接触。
这种情况不同于诸如滚柱轴承、滚珠轴承和滑动轴承等一般范围润滑或弹性流体力学润滑的应用,其中固态的轴承表面总是互相接触的,并且在分界面处存在正压力。在这些范围的应用中,润滑的主要目的在于改变所述分界面,以降低磨损和摩擦。润滑剂的表面化学性质是最重要的。
在氢化轴承的应用中,完全不同的流体性质对于轴承的功能是重要的。边界性质只在磁盘转动的起始和停止过程中是重要的。在正常工作期间,最重要的性质是体相性质。被考虑用于磁盘驱动器应用中的氢化轴承为小型组合件,它要求很小的能耗和有限的油料补充,这应该适用于较长的寿命,而不从轴承中逸出。对于磁盘驱动器内小型氢化轴承的应用来说,商业上适用的润滑剂在某些情况下几乎是不适用的。
为使磁盘驱动器中的氢化轴承小型化,应该受到控制的润滑剂性质和应该得到的控制程度是独特的。这些性质包括能量损耗、粘度及其温度相关性、迁移特性、蒸汽压力和蒸发率,对氧化和腐蚀的阻力、流变学特性、边缘特性和系统相容性。粘度确定能量损耗和轴承稳定性,这应该在各种工作条件下都是相对恒定的。润滑剂的离子迁移应该小,使得润滑剂不渗出轴承。为了给轴承提供较长的寿命,润滑剂对氧化和反应能力应有较高的阻力。流变学特性是对剪切应变及流动的响应。
润滑剂还应该是与磁盘驱动器的其它材料相容的。例如,润滑剂的迁移特性或脱气不应损害磁头与磁盘之间的分界面,比如造成磁头与磁盘之间的粘滞摩擦力增大,或者磁头结构或磁头动作的退化。适合于氢化轴承特点的流体的成分需要与打算作为一般目的润滑剂用的流体有不同的考虑。商业上适用的润滑剂的其它缺点在于,常常不能通过制造者提供润滑剂的准确成分,而且可能包括一种或多种添加剂,这些添加剂与磁盘驱动器的灵敏动作是不相容的。
本发明的磁盘驱动器数据存储系统包括:外壳;中心轴;相对于外壳被固定并与所述中心轴共轴的静止部件;和可以绕着所述中心轴相对于所述静止部件转动的可转部件。一个转子由该可转部件支承,并与定子磁性耦合。至少一个数据存储磁盘被装附于所述可转部件并与之共轴。氢化轴承与所述静止部件及可转部件互相联系,并包含其粘性在经选择的所需粘性范围内的多种基本液体的混合物,使得这些基本液体的混合物给氢化轴承提供所需的能耗和抗扰性。所述基本液体的混合物包含具有大于所需粘度之第一粘度的第一基本液体,和具有小于所需粘度之第二粘度的第二基本液体。
在一则优选实施例中,所需粘度是在70℃下4-10厘泊(cp)之间的绝对粘度。使这些基本液体混合,达到在所需粘度的10%以内,最好在2-5%的综合粘度。另外,以约1.9-2.0mm的体积对表面面积比(V/A)为基础,所述基本液体混合物的粘滞系数至少为110,并且蒸发率小于1.0×10-3mg/day-mm2
首选的基本液体包括全氟聚醚类、酯类、合成碳氢化合物和精制(高纯)矿物碳氢化合物。最佳的基本液体包括二元酸酯类、聚酯类和聚α-烯烃类。可按多种组合使这些基本液体混合,比如仅为酯类的组合、仅为聚α-烯烃类的组合,或者仅为一种以上的酯与一种以上聚α-烯烃的组合。
已发现这些首选基本液体显现出一些超过作为标准液体润滑剂所以石油为基础的普通碳氢化合物的优点,比如得到改善的粘度-温度关系、蒸发较少和蒸汽压力较低,较低的离子迁移,得到改善的抗氧化性、易于由添加剂增强的相似边界特性、较好的与磁盘驱动器内其它材料的相容性,以及由于公知的纯化学组分所致各种性质的较好控制性。

本发明是一种具有流体动力轴承或流体静力氢化轴承主轴电动机的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,所述电机具有对于磁盘驱动器独特的需求为最适宜的润滑液组分。图1是一种本发明所用的典型磁盘驱动器10的顶视图。磁盘驱动器10包括外壳基座12和顶盖14。所述外壳基座12与顶盖14组合在一起,形成一个密封环境,以保护内部各部件免受该密封环境外部元素沾污。
磁盘驱动器10还包括借助磁盘支架18安装的磁盘容器16,用于关于主轴电动机(未示出)转动。磁盘容器16包括多个被安装用以绕着中心轴运行的单独的磁盘。每个磁盘表面有一个被安装到磁盘驱动器10上的相关磁头20,这些磁头与磁盘表面保持通信联系。在图1所示的实例中,各磁头20都由曲臂22所支承,它们以弯折方式被装附于致动机构主体26的磁头安装杆24上。图1中所示的致动机构属于公知为旋转线圈致动机构类型,包括一个以标号28概括表示的直线电机(VCM)。直线电机28绕着枢轴30转动带有附着于它的磁头20的致动机构主体26,使磁头20沿一弧形路径32定位于所需数据磁轨的上方。不过,图1中表示的是转动致动机构,本发明还可用于具有其它类型致动机构,如直线性致动机构的磁盘驱动器。
图2是本发明流体动力轴承主轴电动机32的剖面图。主轴电动机32包括一个静止部件34、轴套36和定子38。在图2所示的实施例中,所述静止部件是一个轴,利用螺栓40和垫圈42将其固定并装附于基座12上。轴套36通过流体动力轴承37与轴34互相联系,以绕轴34转动。轴承3 7包括径向工作面44和46和轴向工作面48和50。轴34包含流体部件54、56和58,它们供给润滑液60,并帮助润滑液沿着轴承的各工作面循环。利用流体源(未示出)将润滑液60供送给轴34,所述流体源以公知的方式耦接于轴34内。
主轴电动机32还包括止推轴承45,它形成流体动力轴承37的轴向工作面48和50。对面板62压在工作面48上,为该流体动力轴承提供轴向稳定性,并使轴套36定位于主轴电动机32内。对面板62与轴套36之间设有O-形环64,用以密封该流体动力轴承。这种密封防止流体动力液60自面板62与轴套36之间逸出。
轴套36包括中央铁芯65和支承用于绕轴34转动的磁盘容器16(图1中有示)的磁盘承载部件66。借助磁盘支架18(图1中也有示)使磁盘容器16被装到磁盘承载部件66上。将永磁铁70装附于轴套36的外径上,充当主轴电动机32的转子。铁芯65由磁性材料制成,充当磁铁70的护铁。可将转子磁铁70制成为一体的环圈,或者可将其制成多个彼此留有一定间隙地被置于轴套36外围的单块磁铁。使转子磁铁70被磁化,形成一个或多个磁极。
定子38被装附于基座12上,并包括定子铁心72和定子绕组74。定子绕组74附在铁心72上。定子绕组74与转子磁铁70沿径向彼此留有一定间隙,使转子磁铁70和轴套36能绕中心轴80转动。通过公知的方法,如一个或多个C形夹紧装置76,使定子38被装附于基座12上;通过螺栓78使所述夹紧装置76被固定在所述基座上。
加给定子绕组74的变换脉冲产生一个旋转磁场,该磁场与转子磁铁70相互联系,造成轴套36关于轴承37绕中心轴80转动。使变换脉冲被计时,将偏振的直流脉冲引向顺序选择的定子绕组,以驱动转子磁铁并控制其速度。
在图2所示的实施例中,主轴电动机32是“低于轴套”型的电机,其中定子38的轴向位置在轴套36以下。定子38的径向位置在轴套36外面,使得定子绕组74被紧固在铁心72的内径表面82上。在一种可供选择的实施例中,与在轴套以下不同,使所述定子位于所述轴套以内。定子的径向位置或者在轴套内,或者在轴套外面。此外,所述主轴电动机可以具有被固定的轴,比如图2所示那样,或者具有转动的轴。在转动轴的主轴电动机中,将所述轴承安排在转动轴与一个与该转动轴共轴的外部固定衬套之间。
图3是沿图2的3-3线所取流体动力轴承主轴电动机32的示意剖面图,为清楚计,部分被取去。定子38包括铁心72和定子绕组74,它们与转子磁铁70及中央铁芯65共轴。定子绕组74包括相位绕组W1、V1、U1、W2、V2和U2,它们被绕在铁心72内的凸状物周围。各相位绕组均由线圈制成,这些线圈的线圈轴垂直并与中心轴80相交。例如,相位绕组W1的线圈轴83即垂直于中心轴80。流体动力轴承37的径向工作面44和46由轴34的外径表面及中央铁芯65的内径表面形成。径向工作面44和46被润滑液84分开,在正常工作期间保持一个间隙c。
1.润滑剂粘度的优选
按照本发明的一个方面,润滑液包括多种经过选择的基本液体的混合物,以便对于特定的流体动力轴承设计而言,使能耗及轴承负荷能力(即轴承的稳定性)最佳,所述设计中通过精确地确定流体的粘度而选用所述液体。

其中μB是液体混合物的绝对粘度,ω是轴套的转动速度,c是径向工作面44和46(或者轴向工作面48和50)之间的间隙或间距,而R是径向和/或轴向工作面的特征长度。
在具有小型流体动力轴承的磁盘驱动器应用中,功率及负荷能力均为极限的。所以需要对润滑液规定在任何特定温度下的准确粘度,而且所需的粘度随主轴电机的尺寸和结构变化。各种商品润滑剂并不适用于任意的粘度值。本发明的润滑液包括多种基本液体的混合物,每种基本液体都具有类似的化学组分但不同的粘度。使这些基本液体精确地混合,得到综合粘度,这最好是在所需粘度的10%以内,而在所需粘度的2-5%以内则尤好。使所述基本液体按如下关系混合:

例如,若n=2且所需混合物的动粘度为ν,则按照ν1>ν>ν2,ν1和ν2的适当选择得到所需粘度的润滑液。
首选的基本液体包括全氟聚醚类、酯类、合成碳氢化合物和精制(高纯)矿物碳氢化合物。最佳的基本液体包括二元酸酯类、聚酯类和聚α-烯烃类(PAO)。可按多种组合使这些基本液体混合,但首选的混合物包括仅为酯类的组合、仅为聚α-烯烃类的组合,以及一种以上的酯与只有一种聚α-烯烃的组合。如果所述液体具有所需的粘度,并满足其它所需的性质,则单独一种酯或聚α-烯烃可被用于本发明的另一种实施例中。
已发现这些首选基本液体在磁盘驱动器的应用中显现出一些超过作为标准液体润滑剂的以石油为基础的普通碳氢化合物的优点。这些基本液体的粘度对温度依赖性小、蒸发较少、蒸汽压较低、离子迁移小、得到改善的抗氧化性、易于由添加剂提高的类似的边界特性、较好的与磁盘驱动器中其它材料的相容性,以及由于公知的纯化学组分所致对所有性质的更好控制。所以,这些液体对磁头与磁盘分界面的损害最小,并为轴承及磁盘驱动器提供较长的寿命。
在一则优选实施例中,以约1.9-2.0mm的体积对表面面积比(V/A)为基础,使多种基本液体混合,得到在70℃下4与10厘泊(cp)之间的准确的绝对粘度,至少为110的粘滞系数和小于1.0×10-3mg/天-mm2的蒸发率。
此外,选择这些基本液体,使基本液体对由于液体自轴承对磁盘脱气所致对磁头与磁盘间粘滞摩擦(“静摩擦”)的影响,在诸如热或潮湿等各种条件下,最好类似或小于磁盘驱动器中所用现有化学制品或润滑剂的影响。譬如,这些化学制品或润滑剂包括油脂密封和铁磁流体密封。
2.润滑液与选定的添加剂混合
按照本发明的另一方面,润滑液包括高粘滞系数基本液体(或基本液体混合物)与添加剂的混合物,选择所述添加剂,使所述混合物有效地阻止催化作用下降,并与磁头-磁盘分界面相容。
随着温度的升高,流体动力轴承中润滑液的粘度下降。这造成能耗的降低以及具有给定厚度的液体的轴承负荷能力下降。在具有小型流体动力轴承的磁盘驱动器的应用中,能耗和轴承负荷能力的较大变化是不能被接受的。
粘滞系数(VI)是一种表示润滑剂粘度-温度灵敏性的适宜方法,常常被解释为粘度的温度依赖性。具有给定粘度的液体的粘滞系数越大,表明流体粘度随温度的变化较小。由于能耗对于磁盘驱动器中的小型流体动力轴承来说是个关键参数,所以较高的VI系数就是所需要的。表1中对几种类别液体的有代表性的粘滞系数表示如下:

酯类流体包含氧以及氢和碳,而且在所有天然及合成的碳氢化合物流体磁盘驱动器的应用中,有些酯类流体表现出独特的优点。这些优点包括较高的粘滞系数、较高的抗氧化性、得到改善的润滑特性、比合成碳氢化合物低的迁移特性,以及蒸发较少。
例如,许多商业上适用的二元酸酯流体具有较高的VI系数和较好的抗氧化性,但在金属-金属接触中阻止催化作用下降较差。这限制了许多商业上适用的二元酸酯流体在小型流体动力轴承中的应用,这种轴承中的油量之少,以致稍有减少,即有害地影响轴承的性质。
商业上适用的流体没有足够的使金属钝化的添加剂去延长轴承寿命。另外,大部分商业上适用的流体所具有的组分不能与磁头-磁盘分界面相容。通常,不能通过制作控制各种商业上适用的流体的精确组分。这些流体的使用可以造成磁盘驱动器特性的无意损害。
本发明的润滑液包含诸如二元酸酯流体或聚α-烯烃等高VI系数基本液体与添加剂组合的混合物,选择所述添加剂的组合,以便为所述流体提供抗氧化、抗腐蚀及使金属钝化等性质,使所述流体比起商业上适用的酯和/或合成碳氢化合物的混合物来能更为明显地抵抗催化作用的下降,同时与磁头-磁盘分界面相容。
首选类型抗氧化剂包括氮和含比如胺(芳基胺)、酚或二者混合物的抑制剂的氧。最佳类型抗氧化剂包括丁基化的羧基甲苯(液态受阻酚)、烷基化的二苯基胺、苯基α-萘胺,或者这些抗氧化剂中的两种或多种的组合。这些添加剂在以润滑剂为基础的液体中的分析含量是质量的0.25-3%。
首选类型的抗锈蚀和抗腐蚀,或金属钝化剂包括金属磺酸盐、长链胺类、羧酸衍生物、噻重氮和噻唑衍生物,以及磷酸胺。最佳类型包括合成的或石油磺酸钙、合成的或石油磺酸钡、烯基丁二酸衍生物,以及噻唑衍生物。这些添加剂在以润滑剂为基础的液体中优选的分析含量是质量的0.02-0.5%。
本发明的润滑液还包含用以改善耐磨性、高压金属接触特性以及摩擦性质的添加剂。首选的这类添加剂包括二烃基二硫代磷酸盐、烷基及芳基二硫化物和多硫化物、二硫代氨基甲酸盐类、烷基膦酸盐类、钼的配合物、天然磷酸酯(三芳基和三烃基),如三苯基磷酸盐,或者这些添加剂中的两种或多种的组合。最佳的耐磨添加剂包括二烃基二硫代磷酸锌、二硫化钼、液态磷酸胺,以及丙醇盐化和丁基化的三苯基磷酸盐类。这些添加剂在以润滑剂为基础的液体中优选的分析含量是质量的0.1-4%。
高VI系数二酯基油和/或带有选择上述添加剂的合成碳氢化合物的混合得到流体动力液体,它比商业上适用的酯或合成碳氢化合物的混合物对于催化作用的下降有更为明显的阻止作用。多种混合物被试验并发现是与磁头-磁盘分界面相容的。这些混合物并不会造成磁头与磁盘间粘滞摩擦的任何明显的增大,也不会造成磁头-磁盘分界面的其它干扰。这些混合物还提供在重负荷及温度升高的情况下在能耗和寿命方面都优于精制的烷族石油液体。
3.高抗剪强度的粘滞系数被改善的液体的应用
按照本发明的再一方面,所述润滑液包含基本液体与高抗剪粘度调节剂(“VI改进剂”)的混合物。VI改进剂降低基本液体粘度对温度的相依性。粘度对温度的相依性是非常重要的,而且对于小型轴承的功能而言,通常不希望较高的温度相依关系。为了减小这种影响,本发明使经选择的商业上适用的聚合物与基本液体混合,这导致主轴电动机中的温度-能耗曲线方面测试的改善。可以看到能耗对温度的相依关系较小。
在本发明的一则优选实施例中,给定另一种适宜的具有不充分的温度-粘度特点基本液体,以5-50%(重量)的浓度,将一种高分子量可溶性聚合物加入所述基本液体中。所述聚合物分分子量最好为10,000-1,000,000道尔顿。首选的聚合物VI改进剂包括,但不限于,聚丙烯酸酯、聚异戊二烯和聚苯乙烯。
在本发明小型流体动力轴承中遇到的各种情况下,剪切应变速率大于每秒106。所述剪切应变速率被确定为轴承工作面关于轴承内的间隙(图3中所示的间隙c)宽度变化的速率。轴承各面间的剪切应变条件通过分解各种聚合物限制了VI改进剂的寿命。因为作为其它因素之一,VI的作用与聚合物链的长度有关,所以,由剪切应变的破坏,使VI改进剂的效能被降低。
在本发明更为优选的实施例中,所选聚合物的VI改进剂属于聚合物类,采用固态聚合物的抗拉强度至少为10,000PSI,并且对其热降解的阻碍在250度(F)以上,这种聚合物对剪切应变破坏有很大的阻碍作用。因而,聚合物具有抗剪强度。这类聚合物包括多种材料,如聚苯撑硫化物、聚醚酮醚和聚醚亚胺的可溶解形式,但这并非限定。
在更优选的实施例中,所述固态聚合物的抗拉强度至少为14,000PSI,对其热降解的阻碍在500度(F)以上。这类聚合物包括酰胺-酰亚胺、酰胺、聚苯并米唑,和液晶聚合物,但这并非限定。在再一个更优选的实施例中,固态聚合物的抗拉强度至少为20,000PSI,对其热降解的阻碍在700度(F)以上。这类聚合物包括巴氐管(buckytubes)和其它巴氐碳球(buckminsterfullerene)  碳形式,但这并非限定。
在有如上述的大部分优选实施例中,聚合物的VI改进剂具有先前各组性质,并被功能化或以化学方式变化,以便对液体提供抗氧化及金属钝化保护。
虽然已参照各优选实施例描述了本发明,但熟悉本领域的人员将能判明,可就形式和细节方面进行多种改变,而不脱离本发明的精髓和范围。

Claims (11)

1.一种磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于它包括:
外壳;
中心轴;
关于外壳被固定并与所述中心轴共轴的静止部件;
关于外壳被固定的定子;
可以绕着所述中心轴关于所述静止部件转动的可转部件;
被所述可转部件支承并与定子磁性耦合的转子;
被装附于所述可转部件并与之共轴的至少一个数据存储磁盘;
氢化轴承,与所述静止部件和可转部件互相联系,并包括在氢化轴承的诸工作表面之间循环的润滑剂,该润滑剂包含多种基本液体的混合物,选择所述混合物中的基本液体,使得所述多种基本液体中一种的粘度大于关于磁盘驱动器数据存储装置选择的所需粘度,而所述多种基本液体中另一种小于所述的所需粘度,并且所述多种基本液体的混合物的粘度在选定的所需粘度范围内,以1.9-2.0mm的体积对表面面积比(V/A)为基础,所述基本液体混合物的蒸发率小于1.0×10-3mg/天-mm2,所述基本液体混合物包括选自一组全氟聚醚类、酯类、合成碳氢化合物和矿物碳氢化合物的基本液体。
2.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物的粘度在所需粘度的10%以内。
3.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物的粘度在所需粘度的2-5%以内。
4.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物的粘度是在70℃下4-10厘泊(cp)的绝对粘度。
5.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物的粘滞系数至少为110。
6.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物包括选自一组二元酸酯类、聚酯类和聚α-烯烃类的基本液体。
7.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物仅包含两种以上酯类的混合物,它们具有不同的动粘度。
8.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物仅包含两种以上聚α-烯烃类的混合物,它们具有不同的动粘度。
9.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,所述基本液体混合物仅包含至少一种酯和至少一种聚α-烯烃的混合物,它们具有不同的动粘度。
10.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于,还包括:
致动机构;
磁头,所述磁头由该致动机构支承,靠近数据存储盘,用以与磁盘保持通信联系,其中磁头和磁盘具有分界面,并且多种液体的混合物选择成与该分界面相容,即不致造成磁头与磁盘间粘滞摩擦的任何明显的增大。
11.如权利要求1所述的磁盘驱动器数据存储装置,其特征在于该润滑剂包含n种基本液体的混合物,所述混合物具有关于磁盘驱动器选定的所需粘度范围内的绝对粘度μB,其中,n是大于1的整数;使所述基本液体按如下关系混合:
μBatT-Tc=ν1×ρ1×χ12×ρ2×χ2…+…νn×ρn×χn
其中:T是温度,Tc是粘度为所需者时的温度,νn是基本液体n的动粘度,ρn是基本液体n的密度,χn是基本液体n的重量百分数;χ12…+…χn=1;而且ν1>ν>ν2,其中ν是基本液体混合物的动粘度。
