背景技术
存在利用打印色带来将油墨转印到打印媒介的打印机和其他打印设备的许多示例。打印色带通常包括基底和功能层,该功能层包括在打印期间施加于打印媒介的着色剂或油墨。例如,热转印打印机可以使用具有基底和功能层的打印色带,该功能层具有在暴露于来自打印头的热量时起反应并从打印色带转印至媒介的热敏油墨。

发明内容
因此,在第一方面中,本公开内容包括被配置用于确定打印色带的定向以及/或者识别已被安装的打印色带的设备、系统和方法。
在一个示例性实施例中,打印机被提供有沿着被配置成在打印头和媒介之间引导打印色带的打印色带路径安装的打印色带。该打印机包括面向打印色带的表面沿着打印色带路径定位的色带传感器。该色带传感器可以被配置成感测打印色带的任一个或多个特性,以及确定功能层或打印色带的基底是否面向色带传感器,以及/或者从多个之中识别打印色带。色带传感器可以感测打印色带的任何特性,功能层可以通过该特性来与基底区分开,以及/或者由此可以从多个打印色带之中识别打印色带。例如,色带传感器可以被配置成感测打印色带的光学特性、打印色带的电气特性、和/或打印色带的磁特性。包括与光电二极管或光电晶体管配对的LED光源的色带传感器可以被配置成确定用于打印色带的反射率值。

在一些实施例中,示例性打印设备100可以被配置成通过提供根据本公开内容的色带传感器来从多个打印色带识别打印色带。如下面更详细讨论的,当多个之中的打印色带拥有至少一个特性(色带传感器可以被配置成检测在多个打印色带之中不同的特性)时,色带传感器可以被配置成从多个打印色带之中识别打印色带。当色带传感器检测到错的打印色带被安装时可以触发响应和/或可以提供指示以确认适当的打印色带被安装。
除了图2A-2D中所示的色带传感器位置之外,色带传感器还可以被定位在沿着色带路径104的任何适当位置处。因此,还可以提供其他配置,下面讨论它们中的一些。在一个示例性实施例中,色带传感器可以被定位在基底侧上,并且被配置成使得色带传感器可以检测适当定向的打印色带的基底。备选地,色带传感器可以被定位在适当定向的打印色带的功能层侧上,以使得色带传感器可以检测适当定向的打印色带的功能层。作为示例,图3A和3B示出一些示例性色带传感器位置和配置。图3A示出具有适当定向的向内缠绕的卷轴118的示例性打印设备100,并且图3B示出具有适当定向的向外缠绕的卷轴126的示例性打印设备100。对本领域技术人员来说,附加的色带传感器位置将是显而易见的,所有这些都在本公开内容的精神和范围内。
如在图3A和3B中示出的那样,在一些实施例中,色带传感器可以位于沿着引导到打印头108的色带路径的一部分的基底侧上的位置处,例如位于在引导张力辊300和被拖带的(trailing)张力辊302之间的位置处。当被定位在各张力辊之间时色带传感器可能具有改进的精度,因为由张力辊提供的张力可以帮助保持打印色带和色带传感器之间的统一的距离。反过来,将预期打印色带具有低张力的区域可能不太适合于定位色带传感器,因为低张力可能在打印色带和色带传感器之间引起变化的距离,导致从色带传感器获得的值的降低的精度。图2A-2D中示出的色带传感器200(也在图3A和3B中示出)提供定位于各张力辊之间色带传感器的一个示例。在各个实施例中张力辊300/302之间的任何位置可能是适当的。色带传感器可能位于紧接在打印头前面的位置304处。备选地,色带传感器可以位于打印头108后面但在被拖带的张力辊302(未被示出)前面的位置处。在一些实施例中,打印头后面的位置可能不太适合,因为当打印时打印色带的功能层的一部分被移除;然而,在某些情况下这可能不重要,例如当在使用打印色带的任一部分之前感测到打印色带的特性时,或者当感测到将不会被已使用的打印色带的某一部分影响的打印色带的特性时。在一些实施例中,色带传感器和打印头可以被提供为一个集成部件,由此使色带传感器位于紧接在打印头前面的位置304处。利用如定位在图2A和2C的示例性传感器中的色带传感器200示出该配置的一个示例。作为另一示例,色带传感器连同打印头一起可以被提供为一个集成部件。如在图4中所示的,集成部件400包括打印头108和色带传感器402。这样的集成部件可以被用来例如利用色带传感器改造现有的打印设备。另外,集成部件(诸如图4中所示的集成部件)允许色带传感器在小的打印设备中的理想定位,例如在该小的打印设备中可能不存在色带传感器可用的其他空间。
进一步参考图3A和3B,色带传感器可以位于打印色带的功能层侧上的引导张力辊300和被拖带的张力辊302之间的位置306处。在一些实施例中,空间可能在功能层侧上受到限制,特别地当沿着媒介路径114接近打印色带与媒介在打印头108和压纸辊116之间的碰撞时。在另一示例性实施例中,色带传感器可以位于色带供应卷轴106/130和引导张力辊300之间,或者在沿着基底侧的位置308/310处或者在沿着功能层侧的位置312/314处。如在图3A和3B之间的这些位置的比较图示了在一些实施例中因为从色带供应卷轴106/130引导的打印色带的不同的切线角,可能存在如在向内缠绕的卷轴118和向外缠绕的卷轴126之间的离打印色带和色带传感器的不同距离。与接近色带供应卷轴106/130的位置相比,在接近引导张力辊300的位置处该不同的距离可以被最小化。在另一示例性实施例中,色带传感器可以位于被拖带的张力辊302和色带卷取卷轴110之间,或者在沿着基底侧的位置316处或者在沿着功能层侧的位置318处。在另一示例性实施例中,色带传感器可以位于沿着色带供应卷轴106/130的表面的位置320处或者沿着色带卷取卷轴110的表面的位置322处。通常,色带传感器将被定位成与打印色带路径相距约1mm到10mm。在一些实施例中,色带传感器和打印色带之间的距离可以是20mm或更近、15mm或更近、10mm或更近、5mm或更近、或者1mm或更近。
色带传感器和打印色带的特性
一般来说,打印色带的功能层将具有不同于打印色带的基底的特性的一个或多个特性。考虑到这一点,色带传感器可以被配置成感测打印色带的一个或多个特性,并且从色带传感器获得的值可以被用来确定是打印色带的功能层还是基底面向色带传感器。另外,当多个打印色带具有在多个中不同的一个或多个特性时,色带传感器可以被配置成感测打印色带的一个或多个特性,并且从色带传感器获得的值可以被用来从多个之中识别打印色带。
在一个示例性实施例中,可以提供热转印打印色带。热转印打印色带的功能层通常包括蜡、可感测材料(例如着色剂、染料、颜料或磁性粒子)和树脂粘合剂。相比之下,热转印打印色带的基底通常是包括合成树脂(诸如聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)聚酯)和沉积在基底的向外缠绕表面上的保护性硅酮涂层以便减少摩擦(诸如当通过打印头时)的薄膜。可以在功能层中使用的示例蜡包括石蜡、棕榈蜡和烃蜡。可以在功能层中使用的示例树脂包括热塑性塑料树脂和反应性树脂(诸如环氧树脂)。可感测材料可以包括着色剂(诸如染料或颜料)或者磁性粒子。示例可感测材料包括碳黑以及各种有机和无机颜料和染料。一些功能层包括反应性染料,诸如隐色染料。一些功能层包括允许利用信号诱导油墨对打印媒介进行编码的材料,诸如磁性颜料或粒子、带电颜料或粒子或者放射性颜料或粒子。用于在其他打印模态中使用的其他打印色带通常还包括如在功能层和基底之间的不同材料。色带传感器可以被配置成基于如在功能层和基底中使用的各材料之间不同的一个或多个特性来区别打印色带的功能层和打印色带的基底。另外或备选地,色带传感器可以被配置成基于所使用的各材料之间不同的一个或多个特性以及它们在多个之中的相对比例来区别来自多个之中的不同打印色带。
在一个示例性实施例中,色带传感器可以被配置成感测打印色带的光学特性。可以基于如在打印色带的功能层和基底之间的差异来选择该光学特性。例如,色带传感器可以包括被配置成感测打印色带的反射率的反射率传感器。另外或备选地,色带传感器可以被配置成感测任何其他光学特性,包括色调(或其分量,诸如L* a* b*值)、亮度、明度、照度、发射(诸如荧光)、辐射,透过率,衰减,衍射,折射,散射,吸光度等等。在各种其他实施例中,色带传感器可以被配置成感测打印色带的任何其他特性(其可以在打印色带的功能层和基底之间或者多个不同的打印色带之中不同),诸如电特性(例如电荷等等)或磁特性(例如磁矩、抗磁性等等)。
用于测量各种光学或其他特性的传感器是本领域技术人员公知的并且因此将不会详细讨论它们。作为一般的示例,反射率传感器通常包括LED光源,诸如与光电二极管或光电晶体管配对的红外LED。包括反射率传感器的色带传感器可以被配置成获得对应于光从打印色带的反射且入射在光电晶体管上的信号。该信号可以被用来确定对于面向反射率传感器的色带的表面的反射率值,并且因为打印色带的基底和功能层通常将呈现明显不同的反射率值,所以从诸如反射率传感器获得的值可以被用来确定是打印色带的功能层还是基底面向色带传感器。类似地,可以使用反射率传感器来将多个打印色带彼此区别开,以确定来自多个之中的打印色带的反射率值。
给定通常在热转印打印色带中使用的材料(诸如上面讨论的那些),热转印打印色带的功能层通常将呈现实质漫射反射率并且热转印打印色带的基底通常将呈现实质镜面反射率。换言之,通常热转印打印色带的功能层将具有无光泽外观并且通常热转印打印色带的基底将具有光泽外观。类似地,用于其他打印模态的打印色带通常也具有呈现实质漫射反射率的功能层和呈现实质镜面反射率的基底。
在一个示例性实施例中,高于阈值的反射率值可以被表征为实质镜面的并且低于阈值的反射率值可以被表征为实质漫射的。类似地,在另一示例性实施例中,可以利用在实质镜面的范围内的反射率值来适当地限定实质镜面范围。同样,可以利用在实质漫射的范围内的反射率值来适当地限定实质漫射范围。作为示例,在一些实施例中,打印色带的功能层可以呈现至少小于50%的实质漫射反射率并且打印色带的基底呈现至少大于50%的实质镜面反射率。因此,阈值可以被限定在50%,其中高于该阈值的反射率值是实质镜面和/或低于该阈值的反射率值是实质漫射。在其他实施例中,作为示例,打印色带的功能层可以呈现小于45%、小于35%、小于25%、小于15%、小于10%、小于5%、或小于1%的实质漫射反射率;并且打印色带的功能层可以呈现至少55%、至少65%、至少75%、至少85%、至少90%、至少95%、或至少99%的实质漫射反射率。相应地,作为示例,该阈值可以被限定在45%、35%、25%、15%、10%、5%或1%,其中低于该阈值的反射率值是实质漫射;以及/或者阈值可以被限定在55%、65%、75%、85%、90%、95%或99%,其中高于该阈值的反射率值是实质镜面。

在另一示例性实施例中,作为示例,如从打印色带的基底所预期的反射率可能与如从打印色带的功能层所预期的反射率相差1%或更多、5%或更多、10%或更多、20%或更多、30%或更多、40%或更多、50%或更多、60%或更多、70%或更多、80%或更多、或者90%或更多。然而,一些打印色带可能呈现不同的反射特征,并且本领域技术人员将会认识到可以依据本领域技术人员可能根据本公开内容的精神和范围而选择的具体实施例来选择适当限定的值、阈值或范围。
作为另一些示例,图5A一直到5F示出对应于示例性打印色带的功能层和基底的示例性光学值。例如,图5A一直到5F中示出的光学值可以是反射率值;然而,这些示例也意图说明适用于其他特性的示例。因此,在一个示例性实施例中,图5A和5B分别示出用于示例性打印色带的功能层和基底的示例性光学值。图5A示出用于示例性打印色带的功能层的光学值500。该光学值500低于阈值502。在一个示例性实施例中,该光学值500是反射率值,并且当低于阈值502时可以被表征为对应于实质漫射反射率的反射率值。图5B示出针对示例性打印色带的基底的光学值504。该光学值504高于阈值506。在一个示例性实施例中,该光学值504是反射率值,并且当高于阈值506时可以被表征为对应于实质镜面反射率的反射率值。

图5E和5F分别示出用于又一示例性打印色带的功能层和基底的示例性光学值。图5E示出用于示例性打印色带的功能层的光学值520(诸如反射率值)。光学值520在范围522内。在一个示例性实施例中,光学值520是反射率值,并且当在范围522内时可以被表征为对应于实质漫射反射率的反射率值。在一些实施例中,打印机或打印系统可以被配置成仅当光学值落入范围内时确定打印色带的给定表面面向色带传感器。例如,打印机或打印系统可以被配置成仅当光学值落入范围522内时确定光学值520对应于打印色带的功能层。在反射率值或对应于打印色带或多个打印色带的功能层的其他光学值碰巧已知在某一范围内的情况下这可以是适当的。在一些实施例中,甚至指示范围522之外更多漫射的反射率值的反射率值可能被表征为打印色带的基底而不是功能层。在这里,更多漫射的反射率值可能对应于基底上的表面标记或某一其他区别特征。图5F示出针对示例性打印色带的基底的光学值524(诸如反射率值)。该光学值524在范围526之外。在一些实施例中,该范围526可能与图5E中所示的范围522相同。在一个示例性实施例中,光学值524是反射率值,并且当在范围526之外时可以被表征为对应于实质镜面反射率的反射率值。
在一些实施例中,可以将打印色带的一个或多个光学特性或其他特性与所限定的值、阈值和/或范围的组合相比较。例如,从色带传感器获得的值可以基于该值与阈值的关系被表征为对应于打印色带的基底,以及/或者基于该值与范围的关系被表征为对应于打印色带的功能层,并且反之亦然。作为另一示例,从色带传感器获得的值可以基于该值与阈值和范围二者的关系被表征为对应于基底和/或对应于打印色带的功能层。在一些实施例中,除了阈值或范围之外或者作为阈值或范围的备选,可以将打印色带的一个或多个光学特性或其他特性与限定的值相比较。例如,限定的值可以是对应于打印色带的功能层的已知值或者对应于打印色带的基底的已知值。

打印设备和打印系统的示例性方法和特征包括被配置用于确定打印色带的定向、用于在不当定向打印色带的情况下触发响应、和/或确认打印色带的适当定向的方法和特征。打印设备和打印系统的示例性方法和特征另外或备选地包括被配置用于适当安装打印色带的方法和特征。
图6示出描绘可以被配置成例如确定打印色带的定向、提供打印色带的适当安装、在不当安装的打印色带的情况下触发响应、确认打印色带的适当安装和/或从多个打印色带之中识别打印色带的示例性步骤600和/或特征的流程图。可以利用面向向内表面的色带传感器(即适当定向的打印色带的基底侧)602和/或利用面向向外表面的色带传感器(即适当定向的打印色带的功能层侧)604来实施图6中示出的示例性步骤。在具有至少部分安装在打印机或打印系统中的打印色带的情况下,色带传感器检测对应于打印色带的特性的值606。该特性可以是可以凭借其将打印色带的功能层与打印色带的基底区分开的任何特性,包括如本文中所讨论的光学特性、电气特性或磁特性。该特性可以另外或备选地是可以凭借其从多个打印色带之中识别打印色带的任何特性。

当色带传感器面向适当定向的打印色带602的向内表面时,当值对应于针对感兴趣的打印色带或多个打印色带的基底可应用地选择的限定的值、阈值或范围时,可以确认该值。反过来,当色带传感器面向适当定向的打印色带604的向外表面时,当值对应于针对感兴趣的打印色带或多个打印色带的功能层可应用地选择的限定的值、阈值或范围时,可以确认该值。在一些实施例中,当值不对应于可应用地选择的限定的值、阈值或范围时将不会确认由色带传感器检测的该值。这可能发生,例如当色带传感器获得已知对应于不当定向的打印色带的值时,以及/或者当色带传感器获得根据其仍然不能确定打印色带是否被适当定向的值时。在一些实施例中,当打印色带被正确定向时610,确认值608,并且当打印色带被不当定向时和/或当仍然不确定打印色带是否被不当定向时,不确认值。
在打印色带适当定向的情况下610,打印设备或打印系统继续打印612。反过来,当该值没有被确认时,不能做出打印色带被适当定向的结论,并且因此在一些实施例中可以触发响应614。该响应可以包括警报(诸如可视或可听警报)和/或提供给用户的错误消息(诸如通过打印设备上的用户接口或通过被配置成远程警告用户的网络)。另外,该响应可以包括发出停止打印命令来防止进一步打印,将打印作业重新路由到不同的打印设备或打印系统,和/或请求备用打印机。
图7A一直到7C示出描绘被配置成确定打印色带的定向、提供打印色带的适当安装、在不当安装的打印色带的情况下触发响应、和/或确认打印色带的适当安装的步骤和/或特征的附加示例性实施例的流程图。在一个示例性实施例中,图7A-7C中所示的步骤利用色带传感器,其包括被配置成感测打印色带的反射率且返回反射率值的反射率传感器。在其他示例性实施例中,可以利用被配置成感测可用来区分打印色带的功能层和基底的任何其他特性的色带传感器来实施图7A-7C中示出的步骤。

Claims (10)
1.一种打印系统,包括:
色带,包括基底层和包含墨水或着色剂的功能层,被配置为遵循色带路径;和
色带传感器,位于沿打印色带路径的任何合适位置,并且被配置为通过使用所述色带的特性来检测色带的定向,
其中检测的定向被配置为区分所述色带的基底层和所述色带的功能层。
2.如权利要求1所述的打印系统,其中,所述打印系统所使用的色带的特性是光学特性。
3.如权利要求1或2所述的打印系统,其中,所述打印系统所使用的色带的特性是电特性。
4.如权利要求1所述的打印系统,其中,所述打印系统所使用的色带的特性是磁特性。
5.如权利要求1所述的打印系统,其中,在关闭门或板时触发所述色带传感器,其中,所述门或所述板用于接近和补充所述打印系统的色带。
6.一种从多个打印色带中确定定向和识别打印色带的方法,该方法包括:
提供打印机,所述打印机包括:打印头;沿打印色带路径安装的打印色带,该打印色带路径被配置为在打印头和媒介之间引导打印色带;以及,沿着所述打印色带路径面向所述打印色带的表面定位的色带传感器;
其中所述打印色带具有:包括具有第一反射率的实质镜面基底的第一表面和包括具有第二反射率的实质漫射功能层的第二表面,第一反射率大于第二反射率;
用色带传感器检测来自所述打印色带的反射值;和
当检测的反射率值对应于从第一表面所预期的实质镜面反射率时确定第一表面面向色带传感器,和/或当检测的反射率值对应于从第二表面所预期的实质漫射反射率时确定功能层面向色带传感器;
基于至少一个特性,从多个打印色带中检测打印色带,其中色带传感器能够被配置为检测所述至少一个特性在多个打印色带中不同;
当色带传感器检测到安装的错误打印色带时触发和/或指示响应。
7.如权利要求6所述的方法,其中,所述打印色带缠绕在卷轴上;和
其中,该方法还包括确定沿着打印色带路径安装的打印色带具有在卷轴上是向内面向还是向外面向的功能表面。
8.如权利要求6所述的方法,其中所述打印色带包括热转印色带,并且其中所述第一表面包括聚酯膜、合成树脂和/或硅酮涂层。
9.如权利要求6所述的方法,其中所述确定至少部分地基于从第一表面所预期的实质镜面反射率,所述实质镜面反射率与从第二表面所预期的实质漫射反射率相差10%或更多。
10.如权利要求6所述的方法,其中所述第二表面包含热塑性树脂、环氧树脂、蜡和/或着色剂。
