Abstract

WTRU以及在WTRU中实施的方法
本申请是申请号为200480033518.X、申请日为2004年11月12日、发明名称为“有利于系统间切换的方法及系统”的中国发明专利申请的分案申请。
技术领域
本发明系有关无线通信系统。更特别是，本发明系有关无线通信系统中有利于系统间切换的方法及系统。
背景技术
如通用移动通信服务(UMTS)系统的先前技术蜂窝型无线通信系统，包含多个具有特定覆盖区域的小区。当无线传输/接收单元(WTRU)跨越小区边界移动时，无线传输/接收单元必须从一小区切换至另一小区。
各小区传播有利于通用移动通信服务系统内切换程序所需的信息。此信息通常包含邻近小区列表，其包含服务小区附近的邻近小区列表。该邻近小区列表可使无线传输/接收单元仅经由有限小区数而非所有可能编码来搜寻。结果，无线传输/接收单元可加速小区搜寻程序而更快速对新小区执行切换。
同时，以IEEE802.11标准为基础的无线局域网络(WLANs)已被发展且被广泛使用。这些系统可期待其高数据速率传输支持。依据802.11标准的无线局域网络使用之一例系为公共空间中使用所谓“热点”的接入点。具有802.11接口的无线传输/接收单元可不需任何实体连接而连接至热点。一旦无线传输/接收单元(经由射频接口被与热点无线相关，则无线传输/接收单元可以通常远较被提供于通用移动通信服务系统者为快的数据速率经由热点传输及接收数据。
当热点提供高品质，高数据速率连接性时，热点的服务范围通常被限制为相当短距离。因为802.11标准下的无线传输/接收单元传输功率被限制为相当低功率电平，所以很难达成充分覆盖大量人口区域。此外，由于802.11装置的受限范围，无线传输/接收单元通常对新热点执行固定搜寻程序。此为严峻处理负载，因此对无线传输/接收单元电池系为固定消耗。缺乏通知热点存在的机构下，无线传输/接收单元应搜寻定期及连续被传输自热点的信号。此产生处理功率及资源非必要的消耗。
因为无线传输/接收单元可接收来自热点的相当高速率服务而可维持通用移动通信服务系统中广泛覆盖区域的连接，所以预期提供被配置通信及切换于802.11标准下的通用移动通信服务系统及无线局域网络系统间的双模无线传输/接收单元。然而，目前并无从如通用移动通信服务的蜂窝型通信系统切换至如热点的无线局域网络型通信系统的便捷方法。因此，预期提供有利于如通用移动通信服务及无线局域网络的两无线通信系统的系统间切换的方法及系统。
发明内容
通过无线传输/接收单元有利于系统间切换的方法系被揭示。无线传输/接收单元可使用不同无线通信协议通信于多重无线通信系统中。第一无线通信系统提供第二无线通信系统至少一部份覆盖区域内的热点。第二无线通信系统中的小区中的基站可产生及传输信息来通知位于小区附近的热点存在给无线传输/接收单元。无线传输/接收单元接收该信息并被通知小区附近的热点存在。
无线传输/接收单元不需搜寻被传输自热点的信号而更快速及有效激活(initiate)切换程序。

具体实施方式
在此，“无线传输/接收单元”名词系包括但不受限于站、行动站、使用者设备、固定或行动用户单元、呼叫器或任何可操作于无线环境中的任何其它类型装置。
本发明使用不同无线通信协议有利于两不同无线通信系统间的切换。无线通信系统可为未来发展无线通信系统所呈现的任何类型，包含但不限于通用移动通信服务，分码多重接入2000(CDMA2000)，全球移动通信系统(GSM)，一般封包无线服务(GPRS)，IEEE802.11系统及蓝芽。
为了简化，此后本发明将参考通用移动通信服务系统及提供通用移动通信服务系统覆盖区域内的热点的IEEE802.11无线局域网络通信系统作说明。然而，如上述，应注意本发明亦可公平地应用至通用移动通信服务系统或IEEE802.11无线局域网络通信系统外的任何无线接入系统。
图1为依据本发明的无线通信系统100方块图。系统100包含操作于不同通信协议且具有重叠覆盖区域的两个或更多通信系统。图1描绘802.11标准下操作的通用移动通信服务系统110及热点120。通用移动通信服务系统110具有较广覆盖区域，而热点120具有通用移动通信服务系统110覆盖区域内的有限覆盖区域。通用移动通信服务系统110包含各服务特定覆盖区域的多个小区112。各小区112系被基站114服务，而热点120被接入点122服务。
无线传输/接收单元130系被配置通信于通用移动通信服务系统110及热点120中。无线传输/接收单元130固定或定期监视来自多个基站114及接入点122的信息。无线传输/接收单元130对被接收自小区112及热点120的信息执行实际量测(physical measurement)且可切换至另一小区112或热点120。
依据本发明，通用移动通信服务系统110的各基站114可通知小区112附近的如热点120的任何热点存在给无线传输/接收单元130。各小区的基站114已留意位于各小区112附近的热点120的存在。基站114获得有关热点120信息的方式并非本发明重心。然而，例如基站114可通过侦测被传输自热点120的信号或通过接收来自通用移动通信服务系统110或无线局域网络系统的信息来获得该信息。可替代是，基站114可被人工配置来包含基站114何时被设立或如新热点何时被配置的该信息。
通用移动通信服务系统110中，各小区112中的基站114可产生及传播邻近小区列表来支持通用移动通信服务系统110中各小区112间的有效切换。依据本发明，各小区112亦较佳包含邻近小区列表中热点120的额外信息。可替代是，小区112可针对此传输独立信息。
无线传输/接收单元130可接收来自服务无线传输/接收单元130的小区112的基站114的邻近小区列表或独立信息，并被通知小区112附近的热点120存在。有关热点120的信息包含但不限于热点120的位置，频带，安全电平，或建立对热点120的连接所需的任何其它信息。因为无线传输/接收单元130可事先获得对热点120的连接信息，所以无线传输/接收单元130可降低处理功率及放置热点及设定特定热点连接的参数通常所需的任何资源。
有关热点120的连接系较佳从小区112中的基站114被传播至所有无线传输/接收单元130。可替代是，各小区112的基站114可经由专用信道或共享/共享信道传输邻近小区列表或独立信息仅至无线传输/接收单元130子组。
图2为依据本发明通过通知热点120存在给无线传输/接收单元130而有利于系统间切换的处理200流程图。无线传输/接收单元130系为多模无线传输/接收单元，所以无线传输/接收单元130可接收来自通用移动通信服务系统110及无线局域网络系统(也就是热点)120两者的信息。通用移动通信服务系统110中的小区112中的基站114可通知小区112附近的热点120存在给位于小区112中的无线传输/接收单元130。有关热点120的信息系较佳被包含于邻近小区列表中。然而，该信息可经由独立信息来传输。
通用移动通信服务系统中的各基站114可产生有效切换至另一小区的邻近小区列表(步骤202)。邻近小区列表包含切换所需信息，包含但不限于邻近小区的编码组，主乱码实体或邻近小区搜寻窗。各基站114系经由传播信道传播邻近小区列表至无线传输/接收单元130。
各基站114系较佳包含邻近小区列表中的热点120附近相关信息，或产生独立信息(步骤202)及传输邻近小区列表或信息至位于各小区112中的无线传输/接收单元130(步骤204)。热点120相关信息包含但不限于热点位置，频带，安全电平，或建立对热点的连接所需的任何其它信息。
热点120相关信息系较佳被传播。然而，基站可传输热点120相关信息仅至无线传输/接收单元130而非传播它。该信息可经由专用信道或共享/共享信道来传输。
无线传输/接收单元130接收邻近小区列表或独立信息，且被通知热点120的存在(步骤206)。无线传输/接收单元130可不需搜寻被传输自热点130的信号而更快速及有效激活切换程序。
当无线传输/接收单元130接收邻近小区列表或独立信息时，无线传输/接收单元130可处于闲置模式或主动模式。当无线传输/接收单元130处于主动模式时，无线传输/接收单元130可使用热点120相关信息对热点120切换，而当无线传输/接收单元130处于闲置模式时，无线传输/接收单元130可使用该信息经由热点120来激活新呼叫。
建立对热点120的连接的前，无线传输/接收单元130系对被传输自邻近小区列表中的基站114及热点120的信息执行实际量测(步骤208)。该实际量测可为量测及比较小区112及热点120间的信号品质有关的任何量测。此可包含但不限于信号干扰比(SIR)或被接收信号强度指示符(RSSI)。
无线传输/接收单元130决定被传输自热点120的信息量测是否满足预定准则(步骤210)。若该量测满足该准则，则无线传输/接收单元130激活对热点120的切换程序或经由热点120激活新呼叫(步骤212)。若量测不满足预定准则，则无线传输/接收单元130并不尝试建立对热点120的连接(步骤214)。
虽然本发明特征及组件通过特定组合中的较佳实施例做说明，但各特征或组件均可无较佳实施例的其它特征及组件下被单独使用或具有或无本发明其它特征及组件的各种组合中。

Claims (20)

1.一种在无线传输/接收单元(WTRU)中实施的方法，所述方法包含：
所述WTRU在所述WTRU在处于主动模式或闲置模式时经由蜂窝网络接收网络信息消息；
其中所述网络信息消息包括与能够用于切换的多个无线接入网络有关的信息，所述信息包括标识能够用于切换的所述多个无线接入网络的邻近小区列表；
其中所述多个无线接入网络包括基于第一无线接入技术的第一无线接入网络以及基于第二无线接入技术的第二无线接入网络，其中所述第一无线接入技术和所述第二无线接入技术不同，以及
其中所述多个无线接入网络包括处于所述WTRU附近的无线接入网络；
在所述WTRU处于主动模式的情况下，响应于接收所述邻近小区列表，所述WTRU仅在从邻近小区列表中被标识的所述无线接入网络传送的信号上执行实际量测；
所述WTRU从用于切换的所述多个无线接入网络中选择一个网络；以及
所述WTRU激活与所选择的网络的切换过程；以及
在所述WTRU处于闲置模式的情况下，所述WTRU使用接收到的与所述无线接入网络有关的信息选择所述邻近小区列表中被识别的一个无线接入网络，并且对所选择无线接入网络激活新呼叫。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述所选择的网络是无线局域网(WLAN)。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述所选择的网络是WiMax网络。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述所选择的网络是无线个域网(WPAN)。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述网络信息消息包括与所述多个无线接入网络中的网络有关的位置信息。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述网络信息消息包括与所述多个无线接入网络中的网络有关的通信参数。
7.根据权利要求6所述的方法，其中所述通信参数包括频率信息。
8.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述从用于切换的所述多个无线接入网络中选择一个网络是基于来自所述多个无线接入网络的至少一个网络的被量测的信号强度的。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述从用于切换的所述多个无线接入网络中选择一个网络是基于包含在所述网络信息消息中的信息的。
10.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述第一无线接入技术是蜂窝技术，以及所述第二无线接入技术是无线局域网(WLAN)技术。
11.一种在无线传输/接收单元(WTRU)，所述WTRU包含：
用于在所述WTRU在处于主动模式或闲置模式时经由蜂窝网络接收网络信息消息的装置；
其中所述网络信息消息包括与能够用于切换的多个无线接入网络有关的信息，所述信息包括标识能够用于切换的所述多个无线接入网络的邻近小区列表；
其中所述多个无线接入网络包括基于第一无线接入技术的第一无线接入网络以及基于第二无线接入技术的第二无线接入网络，其中所述第一无线接入技术和所述第二无线接入技术不同，以及
其中所述多个无线接入网络包括处于所述WTRU附近的无线接入网络；
用于在所述WTRU处于主动模式的情况下，响应于接收所述邻近小区列表，仅在从邻近小区列表中被标识的所述无线接入网络传送的信号上执行实际量测的装置；
其中，所述WTRU从用于切换的所述多个无线接入网络中选择一个网络并且激活与所选择的网络的切换过程；以及
其中，在所述WTRU处于闲置模式的情况下，所述WTRU使用接收到的与所述无线接入网络有关的信息选择所述邻近小区列表中被识别的一个无线接入网络并且对所选择无线接入网络激活新呼叫。
12.根据权利要求11所述的WTRU，其中所述所选择的网络是无线局域网(WLAN)。
13.根据权利要求11所述的WTRU，其中所述所选择的网络是WiMax网络。
14.根据权利要求11所述的WTRU，其中所述所选择的网络是无线个域网(WPAN)。
15.根据权利要求11所述的WTRU，其中所述网络信息消息包括与所述多个无线接入网络中的网络有关的位置信息。
