Abstract

시스템 간 핸드오버를 용이하게 하기 위한 방법 및 시스템{METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR FACILITATING INTER-SYSTEM HANDOVER}
본 발명은 무선 통신 시스템에 관한 것으로서, 더 구체적으로는 무선 통신 시스템에서 시스템간 핸드오버를 용이하게 하기 위한 방법 및 시스템에 관한 것이다.
범용 이동 통신 서비스(UMTS) 시스템과 같은 종래의 셀룰러 형태의 무선 통신 시스템은 특별한 서비스 가능 영역을 가지는 복수개의 셀들을 포함한다. 무선 송수신 장치(WTRU)가 셀의 경계를 넘어 이동할 때, WTRU는 한 셀에서 다른 셀로의 핸드오버가 필요하다.

본 발명은 두 다른 통신 프로토콜을 사용하여 두 다른 무선 통신 시스템 사이에서 시스템 간 핸드오버를 용이하게 한다. 무선 통신 시스템은 UMTS, 코드 분할 다중 접속 2000(CDMA2000), 이동 통신 글로벌 시스템(GSM), 범용 패킷 무선 서비스(GPRS), IEEE 802.11 시스템 및 블루투스를 포함하는 미래 발전가능한 무선 통신 시스템의 현재의 형태일 수 있다.
설명의 편의상, 이후 본 발명은 UMTS 시스템의 서비스 가능 영역 내에 핫 스폿을 제공하는 UMTS시스템 및 IEEE 802.11 WLAN 통신 시스템을 참조하여 묘사될 것이다. 하지만, 미리 언급한 바와 같이, 본 발명은 UMTS 또는 802.11 WLAN 시스템과 다른 어떤 무선 접속 시스템에도 마찬가지로 적용될 수 있다는 것에 주목해야한다.

각 기지국(114)은 양호하게 이웃 셀 목록에서 가까운 핫 스폿(120)을 고려하는 정보를 포함하고, 각 셀(112)에 위치한 WTRU(130)에 이웃 셀 목록 또는 메시지를 전송한다(단계 204). 핫 스폿에 관한 정보는 핫 스폿의 위치, 주파수 대역, 보안 레벨, 또는 핫 스폿에 연결을 설립하기 위해 필요한 다른 정보들을 포함하나 이에 제한되는 것은 아니다.
핫 스폿(120)을 고려하는 정보는 양호하게 브로드캐스트된다. 하지만, 기지국은 핫 스폿(120)에 관한 정보를 브로드캐스팅하는 대신에 WTRU(130)의 서브세트에만 그것을 송신할 것이다. 상기 정보는 전용 채널 또는 공용 채널을 통해 전송될 것이다.
WTRU(130)는 WTRU(130)가 이웃 셀 목록 또는 별도의 메시지를 수신할 때 유휴 모드(idle mode) 또는 활성화 모드(active mode)일 수 있다. WTRU(130)이 활성화 모드일 때, WTRU(130)는 핫 스폿(120)에 핸드오버를 위해 핫 스폿(120)에 관한 정보를 이용하고, WTRU(130)가 유휴 모드일때, WTRU(130)는 상기 정보를 사용하여 핫 스폿(120)을 통해 새로운 통화를 시작할 수 있다.
핫 스폿(120)에 연결을 설립하기 전에, WTRU(130)는 이웃 셀 목록 및 핫 스폿(120)내의 기지국(114)으로부터 전송된 메시지에 물리적 측정을 수행한다. 물리적 측정은 이웃 셀(112)과 핫 스폿(120) 사이에 신호 질을 측정하고 비교하는 데 관한 어떤 측정값일 수 있다. 이것은 신호 대 간섭비(SIR) 또는 수신 신호 강도 지수(RSSI)를 포함할 수 있으나 이에 제한되지는 않는다.

Claims (8)

  1. 무선 송수신 장치(wireless transmit/receive unit; WTRU)에서 이행되는 방법에 있어서,
    핸드오프에 이용가능한 복수의 무선 액세스 네트워크들 - (상기 복수의 무선 액세스 네트워크들은 하나 보다 많은 액세스 기술의 무선 액세스 네트워크들을 포함하며, 상기 복수의 무선 액세스 네트워크들은 상기 WTRU의 근처에 위치하는 무선 액세스 네트워크들로 구성됨) - 에 관련된 정보를 포함하는 네트워크 정보 메세지를 셀룰러 네트워크를 통해 수신하고;
    상기 복수의 무선 액세스 네트워크들로부터 적어도 하나의 네트워크의 신호 세기를 측정하고;
    핸드오버를 위한 상기 복수의 무선 액세스 네트워크들로부터의 네트워크들 중에서 하나의 네트워크를 선택하며;
    상기 선택된 네트워크를 통해 핸드오버 프로시저를 개시하는 것
    을 포함하는, 무선 송수신 장치(WTRU)에서 이행되는 방법.
