Description

本申请是2006年9月29日递交的、名为“用于管理点播内容的本地存储的系统和方法”的发明专利申请No.200680036020.8的分案申请。
技术领域
本发明涉及点播系统(on-demand system)。本发明尤其涉及管理点播系统中点播内容(on-demand content)的本地存储。
背景技术
已经开发了允许用户向点播服务器订购(order)内容(例如视频节目)以由用户的设备重放(或在应用程序的情况下是执行)的点播系统(例如视频点播(VOD:video-on-demand)系统)。在某些方法中,与VOD节目相关的租用时间段限定了一个时间段,其中用户在该时间段期间可以访问内容。租用时间段可以是基于费用的,也可以不是基于费用的。

发明内容

具体实施方式
图1的简化框图示出了根据本发明的点播系统100的一个实施例。点播系统100包括用户设备110和远程点播服务器150。在某些实施例中,点播内容可以从头端或远程站点(未示出)分发到远程点播服务器150,并被存储在远程点播服务器150上。虽然图1为了清楚示出了一个远程点播服务器150,但是点播系统100可以包括多于一个的远程点播服务器150和/或与用户设备110连接的附加类型的服务器。

通信路径138可以是任何合适的显示接口,诸如数字视频接口(DVI:Digital Visual Interface)或FireWire接口(IEEE 1394)。通信路径122可以是任何合适的有线或无线路径(例如红外路径)。
在一种典型使用情形中,点播系统100的用户利用输入装置120选择播放内容。用户输入装置120发送信号到点播客户机,作为响应,点播客户机向点播服务器150请求所选择的点播内容。点播服务器150检索点播内容,并将其作为数字流(例如MPEG流)传送到用户设备110。点播客户机将该流存储在存储装置134中,并且可以在完整的流被接收之前(即当只有部分内容被存储时)从存储装置134播放该内容,或者在某些方法中,可以在播放内容之前存储完整的内容流。在其他方法中,完整的点播内容不被本地地存储,并且环形高速缓存(circular cache)被用于在给定时间点只存储或缓冲部分内容。
如果为了在远程点播服务器150和用户设备110之间建立通信链路已经要求额外开销,则存储完整的点播内容与存储部分点播内容相比所要求的附加额外开销可能很小。因此,在某些实施例中,点播客户机与用户是否实际观看完整的点播内容无关地存储点播内容整体。在这样的实施例中,如果由于其他系统要求而不期望记录完整的点播内容,或者如果对节目的访问违背了如下所述的约束标准,则点播客户机可以例如响应于调谐器或通信路径变得不可用而停止存储点播内容整体。
在某些实施例中,远程点播服务器150可以在将内容流发送到用户设备110之前对内容流进行编码和压缩。在这样的实施例中,点播客户机将编码和压缩后的内容流存储在存储装置134中。点播客户机可以通过以先进先出(FIFO)方式从存储装置134检索内容流、并解码和解压缩该流以输出到显示装置149,而立即开始播放点播内容。点播客户机也可以在随后的时间访问该流(诸如为用户提供本地重放控制,或在重放之前存储完整的流)。

在某些实施例中,约束标准可以最初被存储在用户设备110中处理电路130、存储装置134、或其他电路中。在其他实施例中,由远程点播服务器150或其他合适的服务器提供部分约束标准,而一部分最初被存储在用户设备110中。
约束标准可以包括点播租用条件。它们是与系统提供者的租用策略(可以是基于费用的,也可以不是基于费用的)相关的条件。点播租用条件例如可以指定点播租用窗、一个或多个其他时间段、使用限制或这些或其他合适的租用条件的组合。租用条件例如可以指定允许或禁止与和租用条件相关的内容一起存储在存储装置134上的其他点播内容的特性。这样的特性例如可以包括可用性、大小、持续时间、定价、销售、是否是公共序列的一部分、是否是公共推广包的一部分、和其他与该其他点播内容相关的因子。
租用条件时间段可以以任何适当的方式被限定。在某些实施例中,时间段基于点播内容最初被存储在存储装置134中的时间。例如,点播客户机可以根据该时间段,在点播内容被存储在存储装置134中之后24小时时从存储装置134删除点播内容或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。
时间段例如可以基于点播内容最初可从远程点播服务器150获取的时间(其取决于(例如用户)订购点播内容的实际时间和/或点播内容被本地存储的时间)。例如,点播客户机可以根据该时间段,在点播内容最初可从远程点播服务器150获取之后7天时从存储装置134删除点播内容或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。
作为另一例子,时间段可以基于将从远程点播服务器150删除点播内容的时间。例如,点播客户机可以根据该时间段,在从远程点播服务器150删除点播内容的同时、或在此之后某时间段之后从存储装置134删除点播内容或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。
在再一例子中,时间段可以基于用户第一次请求从服务装置134重放点播内容的时间。例如,点播客户机可以根据该时间段,在用户最初请求从存储装置134重放点播内容之后12小时时从存储装置134删除点播内容或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。用户可以在用户请求重放点播内容的同时或在此之前已经订购(或购买)了按虚实内容。
在最后一个例子中,时间段可以基于当前日期和时间。例如,点播客户机可以根据该时间段在每个星期天午夜从存储装置134删除点播内容。
租用条件使用限制也可以以任何适当的方式被限定。使用限制可以是用户已经向存储装置134请求重放点播内容的允许次数。例如,点播客户机可以根据该租用条件在用户已经从存储装置134向存储装置134请求和观看点播内容三次之后删除点播内容或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。
使用限制可以是用户可以用于从存储装置134观看点播内容的累积时间。例如,点播客户机可以根据该租用条件在用户已经花费总共8小时整体地或以各种部分观看点播内容之后从存储装置134删除点播内容或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。
使用限制可以是限制用户可以向存储装置134请求和/或从存储装置134观看超过一定等级(rating)的点播内容(或超过一组等级的点播内容的组合)的次数和/或累积时间的父控制(parentalcontrol)。
使用限制可以是当前存储的点播内容的允许数量。例如,点播客户机可以只允许用户在任何时刻在存储装置134中最多存储四个点播内容。响应于用户请求第五个点播内容,点播客户机可以删除存储在存储装置134中的点播内容之一和/或防止访问存储在存储装置134中的点播内容之一。该最大值可以基于当前存储在存储装置134中的一个或多个类别(例如首轮放映、经典、动作、喜剧、某演员主演的影片、特定系列中的影片等)中点播内容的数量。例如,点播客户机可以只允许用户同时最多存储五部首轮放映影片和/或十部经典影片。响应于用户请求第六部首轮放映影片(或第十一部经典影片),点播客户机可以删除和/或防止访问当前存储在存储装置134中的首轮放映影片(或经典影片)之一。
在某些实施例中,约束标准可以包括指定用户设备的条件的动态因子。这样的因子例如可以包括用户是否正观看点播内容、关于本地存储装置中可用性的动态因子(例如其他系统行为是否要求使用本地存储装置或其他冲突)、存储在本地存储装置中的部分点播内容是否满足“保持”标准(例如需要被存储在本地存储装置中的点播内容的阈值量,其中低于该阈值量,用户的设备就从本地存储装置删除点播内容)或这样的因子的组合。
在某些实施例中,点播客户机可以使用密码技术(例如加密/解密和密码转换)。在这样的实施例中,约束标准可以包括密钥。点播客户机使用来自约束标准的密钥来处理(例如解密、密码转换)内容流以显示给用户。远程点播服务器150可以发送加密后的(或密码转换后的)内容流或其一部分到用户设备110。点播客户机可以在将内容流存储在存储装置134中之前或之后利用密钥解密(或密码转换)内容流。如果希望,密钥和其他机密信息可以被存储在安全存储装置中或否则以安全方式处理。
在根据约束标准从存储装置134中删除点播内容和/或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容之前,点播客户机可以为用户提供选项以扩展点播内容的观看时间窗或以其他方式放松与点播内容的约束标准。当用户不接受这样的选项时,点播客户机然后可以从存储装置134删除点播内容和/或防止用户从存储装置134访问点播内容。当用户接受该选项时,可以向用户收费(例如按原始费用或以一定折扣),或用户可以接收诸如与点播内容相关的特殊特征或相关点播内容的预览这样的激励。该扩展后的观看时间窗可以具有与原来用于本地存储的点播内容的约束标准相同、或不同的约束标准。
图2是根据本发明一个实施例的用于检索和显示本地存储的点播内容的示意性过程的流程图。在该实施例中,点播客户机可以在将完整内容存储在存储装置134中之前开始重放。
过程200开始于步骤202,其中点播客户机接收到(例如来自本地用户的)对点播内容的片段(segment)(例如至少一部分)的请求。在步骤204,点播客户机确定(例如在存储装置134中)是否本地地存储完整的点播内容。如果完整的点播内容不被本地地存储,则过程200前进到步骤206,其中点播客户机确定是否正在进行从远程点播服务器150检索点播内容。如果不是,则过程200然后前进到步骤208,其中点播客户机开始从远程点播服务器150检索点播内容。如果在步骤206确定点播客户机已经开始检索点播内容,或在步骤208之后,则过程200然后前进到步骤210。在某些条件下,步骤208可以被跳过。例如,可能不希望试图在必要资源不可用时-诸如当单调谐器系统中的用户调离点播内容时-检索完整的点播内容。因此,在这样的情形下,过程200可以直接前进到步骤210。
在步骤210,点播客户机确定在本地存储装置134上是否存在所请求的点播内容的片段。如果所请求的片段不存在,则过程200前进到步骤212,其中点播客户机确定是否存在资源超时(例如调谐器资源或IP连接上的异常延迟、或错误状态)。如果检测到资源超时,则在步骤214中,点播客户机向用户或系统通知问题。过程然后在步骤220结束。如果在步骤212没有检测到资源超时,则过程200返回到步骤210。
如果在步骤210或204处存在所请求的片段,则过程200前进到步骤216,其中从本地存储装置134检索所请求的片段。然后在步骤218,点播客户机解码并显示所请求的片段。过程200在步骤220结束。
图3-11是点播客户机可以执行以根据约束标准的各种组合控制对本地存储的点播内容的删除和/或访问的示意性过程的流程图。点播客户机可以例如响应于触发事件或定时器而开始这些过程。在某些实施例中,点播客户机可以周期地或连续地(诸如以循环方式)执行这些过程中的一个或多个。这些过程只是示意性的,因为其他实施例可以以任何适当的组合来组合图3-11的过程中的约束标准,并可以使用附图中未示出的其他类型的约束标准。
图3和4是根据影响本地存储装置中可用性的动态因子管理本地存储装置中点播内容的两个示意性过程的流程图。在这些例子中,约束标准所指定的动态因子包括确定用户是否正在观看该节目,以及确定其他系统行为是否需要存储(图3和4)以及是否满足“保持”标准(图4)。这些例子以租用时间段还没有期满作为初始状态(没有示出确定租用时间段是否已经期满)。图3的过程300开始于步骤302。在步骤304,点播客户机确定用户是否正观看点播内容,过程重复步骤304直到用户不再观看该点播内容。
如果用户并没有正观看该点播内容,或一旦用户不再观看该点播内容,则过程前进到步骤306,其中点播客户机确定系统是否需要本地存储装置134存储该点播内容的部分用于其他行为(诸如存储新的点播内容)。如果当前没有其他系统行为需要本地存储装置134上的空间,则过程300返回到步骤304。如果其他系统行为需要本地存储装置134上的空间,则点播客户机删除该点播内容,从而使本地存储装置134的该部分可用于其他系统行为(步骤308)。如这里所述,删除点播内容包括删除点播内容的一部分或删除存储在本地存储装置134中的点播内容整体。当只有点播内容的一部分被存储在本地存储装置134中时或当所需要的磁盘空间比存储在本地存储装置134中的整个点播内容所使用的少时,可以删除点播内容的一部分。过程300然后在步骤310结束。
图4的步骤400开始于步骤402。在步骤404,点播客户机确定用户是否正观看已经被存储在本地存储装置134中的点播内容。如果用户正观看该点播内容,则过程重复步骤404,直到用户不再观看该点播内容。
如果用户并没有正观看该点播内容或一旦用户不再观看该点播内容,则过程400前进到步骤406,其中点播客户机确定系统是否需要本地存储装置134的存储该点播内容的部分用于其他行为。如果当前没有其他系统行为需要该部分本地存储装置134,则过程前进到步骤408,其中点播客户机确定该部分点播内容是否满足“保持”标准。例如,如果相对于完整的点播内容的大小和/或本地存储装置上可用的空间,已经存储了阈值数量的节目,则点播内容可以被“保持”。如果满足保持标准,则过程400返回到步骤404。如果在步骤406,其他系统行为需要本地存储装置134,或如果在步骤408,不满足保持标准,则过程400前进到步骤410,其中点播客户机删除该点播内容,从而使存储装置134的该部分可用于其他系统行为。过程400然后在步骤412结束。
在过程300和400的一个或多个变体中,过程300的步骤306的测试和/或过程400的步骤406的测试还取决于优先权确定。也就是说,测试被修改为“其他“更高优先权”的系统行为是否需要存储”。
图5示出了根据本发明一个实施例的用于根据动态因子(在本例中是用户是否正在观看点播内容)和点播租用条件而删除本地存储装置中的点播内容的示意性过程的流程图。在所示过程中,点播租用条件被点播客户机用作删除标准,以确定是否删除本地存储的点播内容。在这样的方法中,使用其他租用条件,从而以其他方式控制对节目的访问。
过程500开始于步骤502。在步骤504,点播客户机确定用户是否正观看已经被存储在本地存储装置134中的点播内容。如果用户正观看该点播内容,则过程重复步骤504,直到用户不再观看该点播内容。在某些实施例中,点播客户机可以基于某些点播租用条件(例如用户帐号上逾期未付的余额)删除本地存储的点播内容,或防止用户观看本地存储的点播内容,即使用户正在观看节目。这没有在过程500中示出,以避免附图过于复杂。
如果用户没有正观看该点播内容,或一旦用户不再观看该点播内容,则过程500前进到步骤506,其中点播客户机确定该点播内容是否满足点播租用条件,并因此在该情形下应该从本地存储装置134中删除。如果点播内容不满足点播租用条件的删除标准,则过程500返回到步骤504。如果点播内容满足点播租用条件的删除标准,则在步骤508追踪,点播客户机删除该点播内容,从而使本地存储装置134的部分可用于其他系统行为。过程500然后在步骤510结束。
图6示出了根据本发明一个实施例的用于根据动态因子(在本例中是用户是否正观看本地存储的点播内容)和点播租用条件-包括点播内容是否需要被安全地擦除-从本地存储装置删除点播内容的示意性过程的流程图。在该示意性过程中,点播租用条件被点播客户机用作删除标准,以确定是否删除本地存储的点播内容。在这样的方法中,使用其他租用条件来以其他方式控制对节目的访问。
注意,通常计算机系统中释放存储器并不必须移除数据(并因此保留其为可访问)例如,在基于Unix的计算机系统中,系统函数free()仅仅移除指向所存储数据的指针,而使数据保持原样,直到空间后来被其他对与先前释放的存储器部分重叠的重新malloc()的块进行写操作的进程覆写。
过程600开始于步骤602。在步骤604,点播客户机确定用户是否正在观看已经被存储在本地存储装置中的点播内容。如果用户正在观看该点播内容,则过程重复步骤604,直到用户不再观看该点播内容。在某些实施例中,点播客户机可以基于某些点播租用条件(例如用户帐号上逾期未付的余额)删除本地存储的点播内容,或防止用户观看本地存储的点播内容,即使用户正观看节目。这在过程600中没有示出,以避免使附图过分复杂。
如果用户不是正在观看该点播内容或一旦用户不再观看该点播内容,则过程600前进到步骤606,其中点播客户机确定点播内容是否满足可能表明点播内容在该情形下是否应该被从本地存储装置134中删除的点播租用条件。如果点播内容不满足点播租用条件的删除标准,则过程600返回到步骤604。如果点播内容满足点播租用条件的删除标准,则在步骤608,点播客户机确定点播内容是否被分发控制(例如版权保护的材料是否受到分发限制)。
如果点播内容被分发控制,则过程600前进到步骤610,其中点播客户机安全地从本地存储装置134擦除该点播内容。这可以通过覆写该点播内容(例如具有多遍不同模式的写,以降低恢复该内容的可能性)或通过毁坏该点播内容的关键部分(例如利用量化矩阵、CRC校验、首标)使得更难以播放该点播内容来实现。安全擦除也可以是将点播内容中的“广播”标志设置为指示内容不再能够被分发那样简单的技术。替换地,在诸如IEEE 13945C这样的数字权益管理协议中,可以设置“从不拷贝”标志,或重新设置“播放一次”标志。更多关于IEEE 13945C的信息可以在被整体包含在此以引作参考的“DigitalTransmission Content Protection Specification Revision 1.4(Information Version)”,2005年2月28日,DTLA,www.dtcp.com中找到。

图11是根据本发明一个实施例的根据允许被同时存储在本地存储装置中的点播内容的最大数量管理本地存储的点播内容的示意性过程的流程图。过程1100开始于步骤1102。在步骤1104,点播客户机发送从用户输入装置120所接收的请求重放点播内容的请求到远程点播服务器150。在步骤1106,点播客户机从远程点播服务器150接收指示可以被存储装置134存储的内容C的最大数量S的租用条件。在步骤1108,点播客户机确定存储在存储装置134中的点播内容的数量C是否等于该点播内容最大数量S。
在本实施例中,点播客户机维持指示当前存储在存储装置134中的点播内容的数量的计数器C。如果存储在存储装置134中的点播内容的数量等于该点播内容最大数量,则过程1100前进到步骤1110,其中点播客户机通过适当的显示向用户通知最大数量的点播内容被存储在存储装置134中,并为用户提供选项以选择当前存储在存储装置134中的点播内容之一来删除。在步骤1112,点播客户机从存储装置134删除所选择的点播内容,并使计数器C减1(在图11中通过以下编程代码语法:“C--”表示)。在另一实施例中,用户在步骤1110可以具有选择不止一个当前存储在存储装置134中的点播内容以供移除的选项。在这样的实施例中,计数器C被减小,以反映从存储装置134移除的点播内容的数量。在再一实施例中,点播客户机可以自动地删除存储在存储装置134中的点播内容中之一。在步骤1112之后,过程1100返回到步骤1108。

在某些实施例中,点播客户机可以将标志与本地存储的点播内容相关,以控制对该点播内容的删除和/或访问。这些标志可以例如被存储在存储装置134上的表格或目录中。可以有删除标志、控制访问标志、或一个用于删除和控制对某点播内容的访问的标志。点播客户机可以根据例如包括点播租用条件、密钥或动态因子的约束标准置位这些标志。
例如,点播客户机可以在点播内容被内容保护(例如单个用户购买、版权保护、或分发限制)并且满足约束标准时置位控制访问标志,以指示该节目不将被访问,或只借助于密钥被访问。当确定控制访问标志被置位后,点播客户机可以改变(例如破坏)存储在存储装置134中的内容流的比特表示,以防止用户在点播租用时间段之后观看该视频。点播客户机可以通过随机地修改所存储视频的各分组中的循环冗余校验(CRC)位、在所存储视频的规则间隔处插入空分组、用零比特代替量化矩阵、重新排列所存储视频的各分组、或任何其他适当的改变来改变视频的比特表示。在试图重放点播内容后或在此过程中,点播客户机可以检查控制访问标志,看其是否被置位,并且确定其是否具有合适的密钥来对节目进行解码。如果否,则点播客户机可以向用户指示该节目不可访问,或者用户只可以在付费之后进行访问。
作为如何使用标志的另一例子,点播客户机可以置位指示要从存储装置134删除该点播内容的标志。在要记录另一点播内容时(或在以其他方式需要记录装置134上的空间时),点播客户机可以检查删除标志,以确定其是否被置位,并用新的节目覆写该节目。
图12是根据本发明一个实施例的利用标志管理本地存储的点播内容的示意性过程的流程图。过程1200开始于步骤1202。在步骤1204,点播客户机通过确定与该点播内容相关的控制访问标志(标志A)是否被置位(例如被置位为二进制“1”)来确定是否防止用户从存储装置134访问该点播内容。如果没有置位该控制访问标志,则过程1200前进到步骤1206。
如果控制访问标志被置位,则过程1200前进到步骤1208,其中点播客户机防止用户从存储装置134访问该点播内容(例如通过改变该点播内容的比特表示)。在步骤1210,点播客户机将该控制访问标志复位(例如复位为二进制“0”)。该第二标志可以随后与后来存储在存储装置134中的另一点播内容相关地被使用。过程1200然后在步骤1216结束。

图3-12所示的过程是示意性的。步骤可以以不同的顺序被执行,步骤可以被省略,或者步骤可以被适当地添加。
因此,提供系统和方法来将点播内容存储在本地存储装置中并根据某点播约束标准管理本地存储的点播内容。本领域技术人员将理解,可以通过与为了说明而非限制的目的而提供的所述实施例不同地实现本发明,并且本发明只受到后面的权利要求的限制。

Claims (10)

1.一种在包括点播服务器和点播客户机的点播系统中用于管理由所述点播服务器提供并存储在所述点播客户机本地的存储装置中的点播内容的至少一部分的方法,该方法包括:
在所述点播客户机处接收重放所述点播内容的至少一部分的用户请求;
确定所述点播内容的至少一部分是否与约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的访问的点播租用条件相关联;以及
基于确定结果来重放所述点播内容的至少一部分。
2.根据权利要求1的方法,还包括:
在所述点播客户机处使状态数据与所述点播内容的至少一部分相关联,其中所述状态数据标识是否约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的删除和/或访问;以及
在适当的时间,基于从所述点播服务器接收的点播租用条件来修改所述状态数据。
3.根据权利要求1的方法,其中基于确定与点播内容的至少一部分相关联的点播租用条件约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的访问的确定结果,向用户显示错误消息。
4.根据权利要求1的方法,其中基于确定与点播内容的至少一部分相关联的点播租用条件不约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的访问的确定结果,重放所述点播内容的至少一部分。
5.根据权利要求2的方法,其中所述状态数据还包括第一标志和第二标志,其中置位第一标志表明不能访问所述点播内容的至少一部分,置位第二标志表明所述点播内容的至少一部分被标记进行删除。
6.一种在其上实现点播客户机的用户设备,所述用户设备包括被配置为存储点播内容的至少一部分的存储装置和处理电路,其中所述处理电路被配置为:
指示所述存储装置存储所述点播内容的至少一部分;
在所述用户设备处接收重放所述点播内容的至少一部分的用户请求;
确定所述点播内容的至少一部分是否与约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的访问的点播租用条件相关联;以及
基于确定结果来重放所述点播内容的至少一部分。
7.根据权利要求6的用户设备,其中所述处理电路还被配置为:
在所述点播客户机处使状态数据与所述点播内容的至少一部分相关联,其中所述状态数据标识是否约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的删除和/或访问;以及
在适当的时间,基于从所述点播服务器接收的点播租用条件来修改所述状态数据。
8.根据权利要求6的用户设备,其中所述处理电路还被配置为:
基于确定与点播内容的至少一部分相关联的点播租用条件约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的访问的确定结果,向用户显示错误消息。
9.根据权利要求6的用户设备,其中所述处理电路还被配置为:
基于确定与点播内容的至少一部分相关联的点播租用条件不约束对所述点播内容的至少一部分的访问的确定结果,重放所述点播内容的至少一部分。
10.根据权利要求7的用户设备,其中所述状态数据还包括第一标志和第二标志,其中置位第一标志表明不能访问所述点播内容的至少一部分,置位第二标志表明所述点播内容的至少一部分被标记进行删除。
