技术领域

背景技术
在1997年之前,数字照相机允许图像在家用计算机(PC)上使用并且合并到电子邮件文件和万维网上的个人主页中。当想要打印时,每个图像首先复制到PC且接着单独地打印。需要用户手动选择要打印的每个图像,并且手动决定每次打印多大和对每个图像打印多少份照片。
目前,存在能够从使用数字照相机捕获的图像产生照片的许多种数字打印系统。这些例如包括低成本器具打印机,诸如产生4″×6″照片且提供一些专用图像处理特征,但不产生更大尺寸的照片的KodakEasyShare Pfinter Dock家族。它们还包括能够产生也是4″×6″照片的页面大小的照片的喷墨打印机。它们还包括信息站(kiosks),诸如能够产生具有每页多个图像的不同尺寸的照片以及提供各种图像处理增强的Kodak Picture Maker信息站打印系统。它们还包括在线打印服务,诸如Kodak EasyShare Gallery在线打印服务。该打印服务能够产生范围从皮夹尺寸到20″×30″的照片,和诸如包括用户提供的数字图像的T恤和杯子的照片产品。数字照相机的用户期望能够容易地利用这些不同的数字打印系统的性能。
在1998年10月,Canon,Inc.Eastman Kodak Company,Fuji PhotoFilm Co.Ltd.和Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.Ltd宣布了现在众所周知的数字打印定单格式(DPOF)规范。DPOF使得当用户回顾图像时能在数字照相机中构成打印定单。DPOF文件接着和捕获的图像一起存储在存储卡上。然后将存储卡放入家用打印机或零售/实验室打印系统,其读取DPOF文件且产生在DPOF文件中规定的照片。
DPOF规范包括一些必须被所有的DPOF打印机支持的强制参数。例如,一些特定强制参数表示要打印哪些图像,和对每个图像打印副本的数目。DPOF规范还包括许多可选参数。这些可选参数例如可以规定照片尺寸应当是多大,是否在图像上打印日期/时间,以及是否在同一页面上打印多个图像。然而,不是所有的打印机都支持这些可选参数。因此,当用户使用他们的数字照相机构成DPOF打印定单时,他们无法得知他们的DPOF打印机是否可以支持某个可选参数,诸如选择特定的打印尺寸。结果,大多数数字照相机仅支持DPOF强制参数。这限制了DOPF的使用。
在2003年2月3日,在日本的相机与影像产品协会将众所周知的“PictBridge”标准化为CIPADC-001。该标准定义了一套协议和操作,使得当照相机经由USB电缆直接连接到打印机时,数字照相机创建打印定单且将其发送到打印机。PictBridge对打印单个图像或图像的集合以及向用户提供进行状态的结果提供支持。DPS_GetCapability操作使得打印机能够将其性能提供给数字照相机。这些性能包括纸张大小、纸张类型、打印质量设置、打印机是否可以打印日期/时间或图像名称、打印机是否可以增强或“优化”图像、打印机支持什么布局、和打印机是否可以在打印前修剪图像。
PictBridge照相机-打印系统的缺点在于仅当用户将照相机连接到打印机时,可以构成打印定单。因此,照相机和打印机需要在同一房间内。这通常是不方便的或甚至是不可能的,特别是如果打印机在零售或批发打印场所时。代替地,更加期望用户能够在远离打印机的场所,诸如休假旅行期间、在体育赛事时等构成打印定单。不幸地是,用PictBridge标准,这是不可能的,该标准要求数字照相机经由USB电缆直接连接到PictBridge打印机,以便确定并因此利用打印机的性能。

发明内容
本发明涉及一种使用数字打印机从使用数字照相机捕获的图像产生照片的方法。该方法包括:(a)提供具有特定打印性能的数字打印机;(b)产生定义数字打印机的打印性能的简档;(c)在数字打印机中存储简档;(d)使用可移除存储设备将简档从数字打印机传送到数字照相机;(e)使用数字照相机捕获图像并且将捕获的图像存储在可移除存储设备上;(f)使用数字照相机以通过使用数字打印机的至少一项打印机性能来产生打印定单;(g)在可移除存储设备上存储打印定单;(h)将可移除存储设备从数字照相机传送到数字打印机;和(i)在数字打印机上打印打印定单。
本发明还涉及一种用于从数字照相机捕获的图像产生照片的方法,该方法使用至少第一数字打印机和第二数字打印机,并且第二数字打印机具有和第一数字打印机不同的性能。该方法包括:(a)产生定义第一数字打印机的打印性能的第一简档和定义第二数字打印机的打印性能的第二简档;(b)将第一和第二简档存储在数字照相机中;(c)使用数字照相机捕获并存储图像;(d)使用数字照相机和第一及第二简档以产生用于第一数字打印机的第一打印定单和用于第二数字打印机的第二打印定单;(e)使用第一打印定单以使用第一打印机产生照片;和(f)使用第二打印定单以在第二打印机上产生照片。
本发明还涉及一种用于使用由数字照相机捕获且在通信网络上传送到服务提供商的图像在服务提供商处产生照片的方法,该方法包括(a)提供具有用于在通信网络上和服务提供商通信的调制解调器的数字照相机;(b)服务提供商使用通信网络以将数字打印机的打印性能传递到数字照相机;(c)使用数字照相机捕获数字图像;(d)使用数字打印机的打印性能以在数字照相机中创建打印定单;(e)将数字图像和打印定单传递到服务提供商;和(f)使用数字打印机以产生打印定单中规定的数字图像的照片。

具体实施方式
因为成像系统和设备是众所周知的,本说明书将特别针对形成根据本发明的装置的部分,或更直接地和该装置协作的元件。这里没有特别示出或描述的元件可以选自本领域中已知的那些元件。本说明书的一些方面可以在软件中实现。除非另外规定,所有软件实现是常规的并且处于编程领域中的普通技术内。

如图2中所示,为了打印,定单组成包括选择要打印的图像的数量512,以及打印尺寸和质量等级514(例如感热或喷墨)。例如,用户可选择两个不同图像的一个“标准”(4″×6″尺寸)图像,和两个标准尺寸图像加上一个他们“最喜欢的”休假图像的“放大”(8″×10″尺寸)图像。打印定单信息在利用文件中提供,利用文件标识定单且包括指向图像文件的指针,所述图像文件存储需要用来“填写”打印定单的图像。除了“普通”类型照片,照片可以是“创造物”照片,其使用在主机上选择且和文本一起下载到照相机的创造物背景之一。在该情况下,“最喜欢的”图像可以被经由主机PC10提供的边框和题注之一围绕,如图3中所示。作为进一步的选项,一旦选择了尺寸/质量514,用户可选择打印普通尺寸的图像、放大、海报打印或喷墨打印(516)。如果用户决定用电子邮件发送图像,他/她可指定图像将发送给谁(518,520)。如果用户决定将图像放入相册,用户可以用不同的名称来分类图像;且还确定谁可以访问图像526,528。
如上所述,在图3的例子中,用户图像540可以和用户选择的创造物背景542以及经由主机或照相机接口输入的用户文本444组合,以创建具有边框和文本的图像546。
然后用户可将包含图像文件和定单信息(利用文件)的图像存储卡36拿到或邮寄到打印服务提供商14。提供商读取信息,填写打印定单,且返回打印订单以便由用户或通过邮寄提取。服务提供商14对于提供的照片向用户的信用卡账户(其可存储在打印定单信息文件中)收费。可替换地,用户可将卡36和信用卡一起放入“临街信息站”16(图1B)的插槽或存储卡接口50中。然后信息站可自动产生要求的照片,同时使需要和用户交互的量最小化。最后,用户可将卡放入家用打印机48(图1A),并且打印机可自动产生需要的每张图像的照片数量。在后两种情况下,可用的打印类型的尺寸和质量可能限于信息站16或家用打印机48可用的那些。
可替换地,照相机可结合或连接到有线或无线调制解调器,例如通信接口28(图1A)。在该情况下,将打印定单信息和填写打印定单所需的图像信息及账户信息一起通过通信网络31(其可以是有线或无线网络)传送到服务提供商14。服务提供商14打印定单且将照片邮寄回用户。
不是构成打印定单或者除此之外,用户可选择将一个或多个图像传送给其他人。这些图像可包括上述的“创造物”图像和/或文本。用户选择图像且从经由之前描述的过程(在家用PC10上运行的软件应用)装载到照相机的地址组选择将要接收它们的人。电子邮件定单信息在利用文件中提供,利用文件给出电子邮件地址且包括指向图像文件的指针,所述图像文件存储“填写”电子邮件定单所需要的图像。
如果照相机包括发送器,例如在通信接口28中的蜂窝连接,则照相机可包括且启动用户在完成电子邮件定单后能够使用的“发送”命令。该命令使用适当的通信协议(FTP、mailto等)通过网络31自动将适当的图像发送到适当的用户电子邮件账户。可替换地,照相机可放入包含调制解调器的对接装置(未示出)。当照相机插入到底座时,图像可接着自动传送到服务提供商14。可替换地,可从照相机移除存储卡36且将其放入信息站,然后信息站传送图像且对用户的信用卡账单。
不是构成打印定单和/或电子邮件定单或除此之外,用户可选择将一个或多个图像传送到他们的“电子相册”账户,所述账户可由服务提供商14在图像“相册”存储器52中维护(或可替换可在用户的家用计算机10上维护)。在该情况下,用户选择要传送到他们相册的图像,且可选地选择允许什么样的用户组查看图像。组可包括“仅仅自己”、“仅自己加上近亲属”、和“所有人”(家人、朋友等)。信息可包括可输入和选择的文本,如在美国专利号5,633,678,“An ElectronicStill Camera for Capturing and Categorizing Images”中描述的,该专利于1995年12月20日提出,并且转让给本发明的受让人,且其合并在此作为参考。
不是让照相机12直接在通信网络31上和“下游”服务提供商14通信,而是来自照相机12的通信网络31可替换地连接到因特网服务提供商(ISP)(未示出),诸如AOL(美国在线)、Earthlink、Eznet等。然后“下游”服务提供商14经由因特网连接到所有的ISP,消除了维护单独通信网络的需要。ISP将需要来订购照片和相册图像的利用文件数据和图像传送到下游服务提供商。ISP通过使用在利用文件中的数据和图像,来可自行将图像用电子邮件发送到其他用户。
在利用文件中提供利用定单信息。在图4中示出了普通文件组织700,且在本说明书的附录I中给出了精细利用文件的文件内容的详细例子。该文件可以被加密以防止敏感信息,例如用户的信用卡号码的未授权使用。参考附录I和图4,全局信息区(附录I,2-26行)(图4,700a)提供客户信息(姓名、地址、信用卡),和做出定单的时间,以及其是否已经被处理。文件组织700还可包括打印定单信息区700b、电子邮件定单信息区700c、相册定单信息区700d、创造物细节信息区700e和图像引用700f。
更具体地,文件可包含包括打印定单信息700b的一个或多个打印定单区。例如,附录I 28-37行描述了在基于卤化银的CRT打印机上形成图像的“标准”尺寸(4″×6″)照片的打印定单。附录I34行指明了将打印33行中引用的图像的两个副本,而仅打印35-36行中引用的图像的一个副本。第二打印定单区(附录I,39-55行)指明了在基于卤化银的打印机上应当形成大尺寸的照片(24″×36″)且将照片特别地安装到胡桃木框架中。经由UPS将该打印品发送到附录I 47-52行中示出的地址。图像是在图3中示出的合成物,其在创造物细节区(76-90行)(附录I)中描述。
电子邮件定单区(附录I,57-65行)(图4,700c)提供电子邮件地址和应当发送到该地址的图像列表。相册定单区(附录I,67-72行)(图4,700d)提供了用于将图像添加到用户在线相册的方法。用户可将图像分类在特定标题(例如“休假”图像)下且指明允许谁经由因特网访问图像。
创造物细节区(附录I,74-90行)(图4,700e)定义了每个创造物图像,例如图3中的图像。它还描述了用户定义的文本(附录I,81行)。可从主机将多个模板和用户文本选项下载到存储卡,接着在拍照之前将所述存储卡插入到照相机。模板(背景)可以是例如在打印期间仅添加的标识码。在该情况下,当在照相机上显示图像时,不查看模板。可替换地,可在照相机中存储用户期望的模板的低分辨率版本,使得用户可预览最终的合成图像。可由服务提供商使用模板的高分辨率版本,以打印最终合成图像。在将图像插入到创造物背景中之前用户可决定修剪和旋转图像(附录I,86-87行)。
图像细节或引用区(附录I,92-102行)(图4,700f)描述文件类型(例如FlashPix、JPEG、TIFF)和每个图像的位置。在该例子中,三个图像都是位于存储卡“本地卡”上在“休假”文件夹中的FlashPix图像。
在数字照相机利用文件的全局信息和创造物细节区中的大多数信息,例如地址和创造物文本,在拍照之前从主机下载到照相机。在回顾图像后,用户使用图像LCD和用户接口以选择要打印、通过电子邮件发送、和放入相册哪些图像。由下拉菜单提供照片尺寸、电子邮件、加入相册和创造物选项,所述下拉菜单匹配服务提供商所提供的选项,它们已经在计算机上选择所述选项且将其(经由卡)下载到照相机。然后基于用户选择通过照相机来创建完全的利用文件(打印定单、电子邮件定单等)。
在附录II中示出了更简单的打印利用文件。在该情况下,照相机仅允许创建打印定单。然后将包含图像和简单利用文件的存储卡36插入到家用PC10、家用打印机、或临街信息站16或经由通信接口发送到服务提供商。然后自动打印适当数量的每个选择图像,而不需要进一步的用户干涉。
代替为单个利用文件中的的多个图像提供利用信息,其它实施例是可能的。例如,照相机可创建三个利用文件,一个包含产生打印定单所需要的信息,第二个包含提供电子相册所需要的信息,且第三个包含电子邮件定单信息。可替换地,可给每个图像文件提供利用信息,如图5中所示。在该实施例中,描述要打印的每个图像的数目和尺寸的打印定单信息被包括在每个图像文件内提供的标签中。例如,图像文件#1包含图像数据和指明用户要求一张标准尺寸照片的标签。图像文件#2不包含打印标签(或可替换地包括照片数目设置为等于零的标签),所以将不产生图像#2的照片。图像文件#3包括指明用户要求两张标准尺寸照片的第一打印标签,和指明用户还要求单张8″×10″尺寸的放大照片的第二标签。
图6A、6B是根据本发明的系统的另一实施例的框图。系统包括数字照相机12A,如之前参考图1A、1B所描述的。可替换地,数字照相机12A可以是照相电话、PDA、数字可携式摄像机等的一部分。图6A、6B的系统还包括可使用各种打印机提供照片的临街信息站打印系统16(图6B)和服务提供商14(图6B),如之前参考图1A、1B所描述的。
图6A、6B的系统还包括多个照片打印机80A、80B、80C。照片打印机80A-C的每个可以是不同类型的打印机,它们具有不同的性能。例如,打印机80A可以是从在Rochester,New York的Eastman Kodak Company可得到的Kodak EasyShare打印机底座,其产生4″×6″照片且提供一些专用图像处理特征,但不产生更大尺寸的照片。当数字照相机12A放在底座打印机80A顶部时,打印机底座80A连接到数字照相机12A的主机接口30。
打印机80B可以是能够产生信件大小的照片也就是4″×6″照片的喷墨打印机,例如从在Palo Alto,California的Hewlett-PackardCorporation可得到的HP Photosmart 8450 Printer。小型喷墨喷墨打印机80B还可包括容纳可移除存储卡36的存储卡接口(未示出),和连接数字照相机12A的主机接口30的接口,例如USB接口。
打印机40C可以是小形格式喷墨照片打印机,比如HP模型7450,其产色还能够大小到达4″×6″的照片。小型格式喷墨打印机80C还可以包括容纳可移除存储卡36的存储卡接口(未示出),和连接数字照相机12A的主机接口30的接口,例如USB接口。
可使用用于所述特定打印系统的打印机性能简档来规定打印机80A-C、信息站打印系统16、和服务提供商打印机的不同性能,这将在后面参考图7和图8描述。在一些实施例中,照相机12A可包括可经由通信网络31(例如移动电话网络)和服务提供商14通信的无线调制解调器29。在该情况下,服务提供商的性能可以传递到照相机12A,使得它们可被存储且随后用于创建用于要由服务提供商产生的打印照片定制的打印定单。服务提供商14可打印定制的打印定单且将照片邮寄回用户。

在一些实施例中,数字照相机12A可连接包含有线或无线调制解调器的对接装置(未示出),调制解调器和服务提供商14通信以便获得打印机性能简档且以便将定制的打印定单和图像传送到服务提供商。
图7是用于产生为特定打印机定制的打印定单文件的方法的第一实施例的流程图。在该实施例中,打印机特定信息,诸如打印机支持的输出媒体类型和尺寸以及支持的图像增强的类型,通过在可移除存储卡36上存储打印机简档来从打印机传送到照相机。这使得直接从照相机12A生成增强的打印定单。这些增强的打印定单是为关联于打印机简档的特定打印机而定制的。

如之前所描述,为提供在线打印服务的打印机简档,可经由无线调制解调器29在通信网络31上直接地或使用存储卡读卡器42通过主机PC10将适当的简档下载到数字照相机12A。在可替换实施例中,可能使用主机接口30(可使用USB接口提供)将照相机直接连接到打印机,并且为数字照相机12A使用存储卡接口34在可移除存储卡36上存储简档。

Claims (20)

1.一种使用数字打印机从使用数字照相机捕获的图像产生照片的方法,包括:
(a)提供具有特定打印性能的数字打印机;
(b)产生定义数字打印机的打印性能的简档;
(c)在数字打印机中存储所述简档;
(d)使用可移除存储设备将所述简档从数字打印机传送到数字照相机;
(e)使用数字照相机捕获图像并且将捕获的图像存储在可移除存储设备上;
(f)使用数字照相机以通过使用数字打印机的至少一项打印机性能来产生打印定单;
(g)在可移除存储设备上存储所述打印定单;
(h)将可移除存储设备从数字照相机传送到数字打印机;和
(i)在数字打印机上打印所述打印定单。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中数字照相机包括移动电话。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中数字照相机包括PDA。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中打印机性能包括打印尺寸。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中打印机性能包括图像处理增强。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中打印机是零售信息站。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中打印机是在线打印服务。
8.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括使用XML文件存储打印性能。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括在数字照相机的显示器上显示打印机性能。
10.一种用于从数字照相机捕获的图像产生照片的方法,该方法使用至少第一数字打印机和第二数字打印机,第二数字打印机具有和第一数字打印机不同的性能,该方法包括:
(a)产生定义第一数字打印机的打印性能的第一简档和定义第二数字打印机的打印性能的第二简档;
(b)将第一和第二简档存储在数字照相机中;
(c)使用数字照相机捕获并存储图像;
(d)使用数字照相机和第一及第二简档来产生用于第一数字打印机的第一打印定单和用于第二数字打印机的第二打印定单;
(e)使用第一打印定单以使用第一打印机产生照片;和
(f)使用第二打印定单以在第二打印机上产生照片。
11.根据权利要求10所述的方法,还包括使用XML文件存储打印简档。
12.根据权利要求10所述的方法,还包括在数字照相机的显示器上显示第一打印机和第二打印机的打印机性能。
13.根据权利要求10所述的方法,其中数字照相机包括移动电话。
14.根据权利要求10所述的方法,其中打印机性能包括打印尺寸。
15.根据权利要求10所述的方法,其中打印机性能包括图像处理增强。
16.根据权利要求10所述的方法,其中打印机是零售信息站。
17.根据权利要求10所述的方法,其中打印机是在线打印服务。
18.一种用于使用由数字照相机捕获且在通信网络上传送到服务提供商的图像来在服务提供商处产生照片的方法,包括:
(a)提供具有用于在通信网络上与服务提供商通信的调制解调器的数字照相机;
(b)服务提供商使用通信网络以将数字打印机的打印性能传递到数字照相机;
(c)使用数字照相机捕获数字图像;
(d)使用数字打印机的打印性能以在数字照相机中创建打印定单;
(e)将数字图像和打印定单传递到服务提供商;和
(f)使用数字打印机来产生打印定单中规定的数字图像的照片。
19.根据权利要求18所述的方法,其中数字打印机的打印性能至少包括一个打印尺寸。
20.根据权利要求19所述的方法,其中数字打印机的打印性能包括多个打印尺寸,且其中打印定单标识多个打印尺寸中的特定打印尺寸。
