Abstract
一种有机电致发光显示器和制造该有机电致发光显示器的方法。该有机电致发光显示器包括基材(12)、在基材(12)上形成的透光电极(14)、在基材(12)上形成的并包含空穴传输材料和电子传输材料的由膜形成的功能层(16)、在功能层(16)上形成的沟道图案(18a、18b)、掺入构成沟道图案的隔壁之间的功能层(16)中的掺杂剂(Do)、和覆盖沟道图案(18a、18b)的反光电极(20)。掺杂剂(Do)是通过毛细作用引入沟道图案(18a、18b)的,使得高清晰度色彩图案化成为可能。还公开了制造上述有机电致发光显示器的方法。
Description
发明背景
本发明涉及有机电致发光(下文缩写为“有机EL”),更具体地,涉及能够高清晰显示的有机EL显示器件,通过掺杂剂可对其进行色彩图案化(color patterning),还涉及对其进行色彩图案化的有机EL器件的制造方法。
有机EL器件具有非常快的响应速度而且是自发光器件,因此,在显示装置中使用EL器件时,预计可以提供一种具有宽视角的优质平板显示装置。因此,继液晶显示装置后正在研究将有机EL器件用于平板显示装置。
在将上述有机EL器件应用于平板显示装置时,在许多情况下,在其上形成特征为红(R)、绿(G)和蓝(B)光的色彩图案以进行彩色显示。为了形成上述色彩图案,迄今已提出了使用荫罩的色彩图案化方法、使用喷墨打印机的色彩图案化方法等等。
尽管使用荫罩进行色彩图案化的方法可以实现良好的色彩图案化,但该方法的缺点在于制成的荫罩的对准精度和荫罩本身的热膨胀和变形会降低色彩图案化的对准精度。此外,尽管使用喷墨打印机的色彩图案化方法也能够实现色彩图案化,但已知该方法具有下述缺点:喷墨喷嘴的低精确度、油墨喷出量的变动或类似原因造成的误差太大。
此外,还知道一种使用含掺杂剂的溶液并通过冲压进行掺杂的方法。图8表示通过冲压获得的掺杂图案的发光特征。尽管冲压也能够实现色彩图案化,但该方法的缺点在于精确度、均匀性和再现性不足,此外不能以足够的精确度进行色彩图案化。
由于上述缺点,在传统有机EL显示器件中不可能实现清晰度与液晶显示装置(大约200ppi)一样高的色彩图案化。特别地,一直需要一种对有机EL器件进行色彩图案化以使其具有大约200ppi或更高的高清晰度的方法,还需要使用此方法制得的有机EL显示器件。
发明概述
本发明的发明理念是,在通过对有机EL材料进行掺杂而形成色彩图案时,如果能够利用毛细现象将含掺杂剂的溶液引入有机EL材料层中,就能够简单安全地进行色彩图案化。
具体而言,本发明以所需的精确度邻近有机EL材料层形成由光致抗蚀剂制成的沟道。这些沟道的尺寸足够细并且能够通过毛细现象将含掺杂剂的溶液引入有机EL材料层。使引入的掺杂剂分散到有机EL材料层中,同时通过烘焙处理将溶剂干燥,由此对有机EL材料层进行掺杂。
根据邻近有机EL材料层形成的光致抗蚀剂图案的精确度及其图案构型,确定色彩图案化的精确度,而且能够为全彩色显示进行色彩图案化。尽管掺杂后留有光致抗蚀剂图案,但由于本发明所用的光致抗蚀剂在光学上是透明无色的,因此即使残留光致抗蚀剂层的图案也不会产生任何光学缺陷。此外,在本发明中,沟道图案可以以在形成功能层之前直接由电极形成隔壁的方式而形成。此外,在本发明的优选实施方案中,可以在功能层上形成沟道图案。
具体而言,本发明提供了一种有机发光二极管器件,包括:
基材;
在基材上形成的第一电极;
在基材上形成的有机EL功能层;
邻近功能层形成的沟道图案;和
在功能层和沟道图案上形成的第二电极层。
本发明中的功能层可以含有具有胺衍生物结构的聚合物或低聚物。在本发明中,在功能层各区域内可含有不同类型的掺杂剂,这些区域互相毗邻而且被沟道图案的隔壁间隔开来。在本发明中,构成沟道图案的隔壁下的功能层中的掺杂浓度优选低于其它部分。
本发明可提供一种制造有机发光二极管器件的方法,该方法包括下列步骤:
在基材上形成第一电极;
在所述电极上形成有机EL功能层和沟道图案;和
在所述功能层和沟道图案上形成第二电极层。
在本发明中,形成功能层和沟道图案的步骤可包括下列步骤:
形成功能层;在功能层上形成光致抗蚀剂层;将光致抗蚀剂层图案化为沟道图案。
在本发明中,制造方法可以进一步包括沿沟道图案引入至少第二功能层的步骤,第二功能层具有与上述功能层不同组成。按照本发明,该制造方法可进一步包括通过沿沟道图案供给掺杂剂溶液从而对功能层进行掺杂的步骤。
在本发明中,通过供给掺杂剂溶液从而对功能层进行掺杂的步骤可包括下列步骤:
沿沟道图案供给掺杂剂溶液;和
通过加热功能层使掺杂剂分散到功能层中。
在本发明中,进行掺杂的步骤可包括向功能层的各个区域供给不同类型掺杂剂的步骤,这些区域被沟道图案的隔壁间隔开。

优选实施方案详述
尽管下面将通过附图所示的实施方案描述本发明,但本发明并不限于附图所示的实施方案。
图1是图解本发明的有机EL显示器件结构的局部截面的透视图。图1所示的有机EL显示器件10向箭头A的方向发出由电致发光产生的光。在本发明的有机EL显示器件10中,由透明导电薄膜制成的阳极14沉积在玻璃之类的基材12上并被制成图案。在图1中,为了清楚地显示制成图案的阳极14,有机EL器件的基材14上的部分结构被切开,由此显示出制成图案的阳极14。此外,通过电致发光进行发光的功能层16沉积在阳极14上。在图1中,在功能层16的上表面上形成由光致抗蚀剂制成的光致抗蚀剂层,在光致抗蚀剂层18上将由隔壁隔开的沟道图案18a和18b制成图案。沟道图案18a和18b互相平行以便与成型阳极14大致垂直。此外,未标示出的反光电极在光致抗蚀剂层18上形成并向箭头A的方向发光。
在作为本发明所述的一种具体实施方案的底部发射型构造中,可以使用任何材料作为构成阳极14的材料,只要该材料透明且导电。例如,可以使用ITO、IZO、SnO2之类。此外,在采用本发明中的顶部发射型构造的情况下,阳极14不必是透明的,可以使用Al、Ni、Ni/Al、Cr、Ag之类作为阳极。可用于本发明的功能层16优选具有耐溶剂性和涂层强度,以便能够通过涂布光致抗蚀剂形成沟道图案18a和18b。为此,可以使用低聚载流子传输材料和聚合载流子传输材料,在本发明的具体实施方案中可以列举聚乙烯咔唑及类似材料。本发明中的低聚载流子传输材料是指分子量在单体载流子传输材料和下文所示的聚合载流子传输材料之间的任何载流子传输材料。下面将举例说明可用于本发明的聚合载流子传输材料。

此外,在本发明中,尽管在本发明的该具体实施方案中将上述功能层描述成单层,但也可以按照需要将功能层16设计成包含多层的结构,例如空穴传输层、发光层和电子传递层。
作为可以在本发明中用于形成沟道图案的光致抗蚀剂,可以使用迄今已知的任何正性或负性光致抗蚀剂。具体而言,作为正性光致抗蚀剂,可以列举通过将光敏材料与线型酚醛树脂混合制得的组合物、与光酸生成剂混合、使用聚乙烯酚烷基酯的的所谓酸-离解光致抗蚀剂和类似材料。此外,作为负性光致抗蚀剂,只要其利用光聚合作用,任何材料都是可用的。例如,可以使用丙烯酸酯、环氧化合物和酸-离解抗蚀剂。特别地,在本发明中,可以使用光致固化环氧树脂的负性光致抗蚀剂。此外,作为可用于本发明的光致抗蚀剂,可以使用几乎不会影响低层功能层16的非溶剂型光致抗蚀剂。
在本发明中,利用毛细现象向图1所示的沟道图案18a和18b供给掺杂剂溶液,由此沿沟道图案18a和18b对功能层进行掺杂。
作为可用于本发明的掺杂剂,可以使用任何掺杂剂,只要能够获得必需的发光特征。例如,掺杂剂可以选自日光荧光材料、荧光增白剂、激光染料、有机闪烁剂、荧光分析试剂用的染料和类似材料。
更具体地,作为上述染料,可以列举尼罗蓝、尼罗红、TPB、香豆素6、香豆素酮、红荧烯、DCM-1(橙红)、二萘嵌苯、间三联苯、聚苯1、均二苯乙烯1、均二苯乙烯3、香豆素2、香豆素47、香豆素102、香豆素30、若丹明6G、若丹明B、若丹明700、Styryl 9、HITCL、IR 140和类似材料。但在本发明中,只要能够产生合适的发射光谱,上述染料之外的其它任何染料都是可用的。
此外,一般而言,可使用在约420纳米附近产生发射光谱峰值的染料,以获得例如蓝光(B)发光。此外,可使用在约500纳米附近产生发射光谱峰值的染料,以获得例如绿光(G)发光。此外,可使用在约600纳米附近产生发射光谱峰值的染料,以获得例如红光(R)发光。此外,考虑到发射光谱的范围、溶度等,这些染料宜选自名字和化学结构对应于染料索引(CI)的染料。
此外,作为在本发明中对功能层进行涂布时可用的溶剂,可以使用迄今已知的任何溶剂。例如,可以列举烃溶剂,例如戊基苯、异丙基苯、乙苯、二甲苯、二乙苯、环己烯、环戊烷、二聚戊烯、二甲基萘、甲基异丙基苯类、樟脑油、石油醚、精制的烃质溶剂汽油、溶剂石脑油、萘烷、癸烷、1,2,3,4-四氢化萘、松节油、煤油、十二烷、十二烷苯、甲苯、萘、壬烷、松油、蒎烯、甲基环己烷、萜烷和挥发油。

此外,在本发明中,作为溶解掺杂剂用的溶剂,可以从上述溶剂中适当地选择不会对充当低层的功能层产生负面影响的溶剂以供使用。
图2是图1所示的本发明的有机EL显示器件沿着切割图案状阳极14处的箭头B-B方向的截面图。注意,尽管本发明的有机EL显示器件可以配置成在基材12上形成多个薄膜晶体管(TFTs)的晶体管阵列这种结构,但为了简化对其解说,有机EL显示器件如图2所示,省略了TFT结构。如图2所示,在本发明的有机EL显示器件中,在基材12上沉积阳极14,在阳极14上形成可由涂覆薄膜形成的功能层16。在功能层16上,形成由光致抗蚀剂制成的沟道图案18a和18b。这样,沟道图案18a和18b就成形得能够通过毛细现象向功能层16供应掺杂剂。
在图2所示的实施方案中,将不同类型的掺杂剂掺杂到相邻的沟道图案中。例如将尼罗红之类的掺杂剂掺入沟道图案18a中以形成R区域,而将二萘嵌苯掺入沟道图案18b中以形成G区域。通过烘焙处理将掺入的掺杂剂分散到功能层16的内部,并由此形成能够产生所需发光的构造。
此外,在沟道图案18a和18b上沉积阴极20,并由此形成能够协同阳极14向功能层16供应电流的构造。在底部发射型构造中,尽管用作阴极20的材料优选为反光的,但任何导电材料本身都是可用的。例如,可以使用Al、Ca、Sr、LiAl、Ni、Ni/Al、Cr、Ag、MgAg和类似材料。此外,在本发明中,合意的是在功能层16上直接形成碱元素和碱土元素之类的材料层,以便提高电子注入效率。此外,在本发明的另一实施方案中,使用含碱金属元素或碱土金属元素的导电有机薄膜作阴极。在这种情况下,Al、ITO、Ag、Ni和Cr之类的金属的导电薄膜可用作辅助导电层。
注意,在本发明的另一实施方案中,在图2中图示为上电极的阴极也可以位于基材12上,并由透光或不透光导电薄膜形成。此外,也可以在阳极和阴极之间插入功能层16,将阳极配置在与阴极20相对的一侧上,也就是说,将阳极配置为图2中的上电极,并可由反光或透光导电涂层形成。
图3(a)至3(c)是分部分表示本发明的有机EL显示器件的制造方法的图。在本发明中,如图3(a)所示,在基材12上形成透明阳极14,例如ITO,并通过例如旋涂之类的方法在阳极14上涂布功能层16,然后烘焙以在其上形成。此后,在形成的功能层16上通过使用例如环氧光致抗蚀剂形成光致抗蚀剂层18。
随后,在本发明中,如图3(b)所示在光致抗蚀剂层18上形成沟道图案18a和18b。在这种情况下,可以根据溶解掺杂剂用的溶剂的类型对光致抗蚀剂层18和功能层16的表面进行灰化处理,以便改变掺杂剂对溶剂的化学亲合力。沟道图案18a和18b被隔壁22彼此分隔,并由此构造成能够向其中引入类型互不相同的掺杂剂Do的结构。此后,如图3(c)所示,利用毛细现象将掺杂剂Do的溶液引入在光致抗蚀剂层18上形成的沟道图案18a和18b中。注意,在本发明中,可以向沟道图案18a和18b中引入相同类型的掺杂剂Do和不同类型的掺杂剂Do。
此后,如图4(a)所示,进行烘焙处理以使掺杂剂分散到功能层16中,由此获得所需的色彩图案化。在图3(a)至图3(c)所示的实施方案中,向沟道18a中引入尼罗红以形成R区域,向沟道18b中引入二萘嵌苯以形成G区域。此外,掺杂剂在烘焙过程中不会渗透到界定沟道图案18a和18b的隔壁的较低区域18c中,在其中不会产生发光。或者,在本发明的具体实施方案中,可以观察到由聚乙烯咔唑引起的蓝光(B)发光现象。
此后,在本发明中,如图4(b)所示通过喷镀之类的方法在沟道图案18a和18b上沉积反光阴极20,由此形成本发明的有机EL器件。由于阴极20沿沟道图案沉积,阴极20被沟道图案分割开,并由此可以形成平行条状。因此,可以在沟道图案18a中获得R发光,在沟道图案18b中获得G发光,并在隔壁22的较低区域获得B发光。这样就可以形成全彩色图案化。
图5是图解本发明的有机EL显示器件的器件结构的透视图。如图5所示,本发明的有机EL显示器件10包括在基材30上以矩阵排列的TFTs32,由此构造成能够进行活性矩阵驱动的结构。与TFTs 32相邻形成像素电极34,并在像素电极34上形成功能层16。此外,按照本发明对功能层16进行掺杂,并且以参考数字36a和36b标出形成掺杂用的沟道图案处的两个侧壁的末端位置。如图5所示,利用由光刻法形成的沟道进行本发明的掺杂,并因此可以在每个像素单位进行精度极高的掺杂。此外,由于在进行色彩图案化时不必使用昂贵的荫罩,可以以低成本极为容易地制造能够进行彩色显示的有机EL显示器件。如上所述,本发明的有机EL显示器件可用于任何被动类型和主动类型。当有机EL显示器件应用于主动类型时,如果阳极和阴极中的任一个可以与TFTs相连,则是令人满意的。
图6是图解本发明有机EL显示器件另一实施方案的截面构造的图。在图6所示的有机EL显示器件10中,在基材12上形成透明导电电极14,并在导电电极14上形成第一功能层16a。在第一功能层16a上形成光致抗蚀剂层18,并在光致抗蚀剂层18上形成沟道图案18a和18b。
此外,在图6所示的有机EL显示器件10中,沿沟道18a和18b引入构成第二和第三功能层16b和16c的材料。在本发明中,引入沟道18a和18b中的功能层16b和16c可以彼此相同或不同。在加入不同功能层16b和16c的情况下,可以加入对于各沟道图案18a和18b分别产生不同发射光谱的功能层,并在此加工阶段完成色彩图案化。此外,在图6所示的实施方案中,可以利用毛细现象进一步引入掺杂剂Do以获得所需的发光。在图6中,掺杂剂Do按照本发明被引入沟道18d中,并由此形成能够获得所需发光效果的构造。
实施例
尽管下面将通过具体实施例描述本发明,但本发明并不限于下列实施例。
(实施例1)
在玻璃基材上通过喷镀而沉积ITO膜,使膜厚度约为50纳米,并形成像素电极。将通过混合作为载流子传输材料的聚乙烯咔唑和作为电子传递材料的PBD而获得的溶液喷涂在制得的ITO膜上,然后对其进行烘焙。这样,就形成了膜厚度约为100纳米的功能层。使用环氧光致抗蚀剂(Microchem Corp.制造的SU-8)在制得的功能层上形成光致抗蚀剂层。烘焙后,形成沟道图案,将其间距设为190ppi或340ppi。图案化之后,对沟道图案的表面和暴露的功能层表面进行O2灰化,由此赋予其亲水性。
利用毛细现象将亚甲蓝(2质量%)的乙酸酐溶液引入制得的沟道图案中,并进行掺杂。图7显示了在掺杂过程中正在渗入沟道图案的掺杂剂的状态。图7所示的掺杂例子是在利用毛细现象向间距为190ppi的沟道图案中引入掺杂剂溶液时获得的例子。图8显示按照本发明可以很好地沿沟道图案进行掺杂。
掺杂后,在130℃烘焙30分钟。由此,使溶液干燥并使掺杂剂分散。此后,通过喷镀沉积MgAg以形成阴极,随后在N2气氛下形成保护层。这样,就制造出本发明的有机EL显示器件。对制成的有机EL器件提供直流电。然后,获得良好的B发光。
(实施例2和3)
制备具有下表1中组成的掺杂剂溶液,并类似实施例1制造有机EL显示器件,并观察其发光特征。然后,获得良好的R和G发光。
(实施例4)
在实施例4中,与实施例1类似地利用毛细现象进行掺杂,只是制备间距为340ppi的沟道图案。然后,同样能够实现良好的掺杂。

(实施例5)
类似实施例1形成有机EL器件,只是形成如图1所示的梳齿形沟道图案,从该图案的一端引入含2质量%的尼罗红溶液,并从另一端掺杂含2质量%的二萘嵌苯溶液。观察其发光特征时,观察到R、G和B的发光。由于尼罗红和二萘嵌苯的发光效力高于聚乙烯咔唑,因此优先产生R和G的发光。此外,由于掺杂剂没有掺入形成沟道的隔壁部分的区域,因而可以观察到聚乙烯咔唑引起的B发光。这些是发出各种色彩的光的原因。表2显示上述实施例1至4在掺杂剂类型和发光特征方面获得的结果。

如上所述,按照本发明,可以以低成本简单地为有机EL显示器件形成高清晰度色彩图案化效果。
如上,已经通过附图所示的实施方案详细描述了本发明。然而,本发明并不限于附图所示的实施方案。在有机EL功能层和类似结构的构造细节、结构、构造、材料、制造工艺的顺序方面,只要能够获得类似的构造,可以适当进行任何应用。此外,如果将沟道图案形成为滤色片形以对应于本发明中的像素,也可以形成良好的色彩图案化效果。
尽管已经详细描述了本发明的优选实施方案,但应该理解的是可以在不偏离所附权利要求界定的发明宗旨和保护范围的情况下对其进行各种改变、替换和变动。
Claims (13)
1.一种有机电致发光显示装置(10),包括:
基材(12);
在基材(12)上形成的第一电极(14);
在第一电极(14)上形成的有机电致发光功能层(16);
在功能层(16)上形成的沟道图案,该沟道图案包括被隔壁(22)分隔的相邻的沟道图案,其中所述相邻的沟道图案各自在一端封闭并在另一端具有开口,且所述相邻沟道图案的开口的方向不同,从而能够利用毛细现象向所述相邻的沟道图案引入相同类型或不同类型的掺杂剂;和
在隔壁(22)和沟道图案上形成的第二电极层(20)。
2.按照权利要求1的有机电致发光显示装置(10),其中功能层(16)含有聚合物或低聚物的任意一种,它们各自具有胺衍生物结构。
3.按照权利要求1的有机电致发光显示装置(10),其中所述相邻的沟道图案是如下形成的:在功能层(16)上形成光致抗蚀剂层(18);将光致抗蚀剂层(18)图案化为沟道图案。
4.按照权利要求1至3任一项的有机电致发光显示装置(10),其中所述相邻的沟道图案互相平行以便与第一电极(14)垂直。
5.按照权利要求1至3任一项所述的有机电致发光显示装置(10),其中所述相邻的沟道图案引入不同类型的掺杂剂溶液。
6.按照权利要求1至3任一项所述的有机电致发光显示装置(10),其中在形成沟道图案的隔壁(22)下的功能层中的掺杂浓度低于其他部分的掺杂浓度。
7.按照权利要求1至3任一项所述的有机电致发光显示装置(10),其中沟道图案的间距为190ppi或340ppi。
8.一种制造有机电致发光显示装置(10)的方法,该方法包括下列步骤:
在基材(12)上形成第一电极(14);
在第一电极(14)上形成有机电致发光功能层(16);
在功能层(16)上形成沟道图案,该沟道图案包括被隔壁(22)分隔的相邻的沟道图案,其中所述相邻的沟道图案各自在一端封闭并在另一端具有开口,且所述相邻沟道图案的开口的方向不同;
利用毛细现象向所述相邻的沟道图案引入相同类型或不同类型的掺杂剂,对功能层(16)进行掺杂;
在隔壁(22)和沟道图案上形成第二电极层(20)。
9.按照权利要求8的制造方法,其中在功能层(16)上形成沟道图案的步骤包括:在功能层(16)上形成光致抗蚀剂层(18);将光致抗蚀剂层(18)图案化为沟道图案。
10.按照权利要求8或9的制造方法,其中所述相邻的沟道图案互相平行以便与第一电极(14)垂直。
11.按照权利要求8或9的制造方法,进一步包括沿沟道图案引入至少第二功能层的步骤,第二功能层具有与上述功能层(16)不同的组成。
12.按照权利要求8或9的制造方法,其中通过引入掺杂剂而对功能层(16)进行掺杂的步骤包括:沿所述相邻的沟道图案供给掺杂剂溶液;和通过加热功能层(16)使掺杂剂分散到功能层(16)中。
13.按照权利要求8或9的制造方法,其中向所述相邻的沟道图案引入不同类型的掺杂剂。
