Description
技术领域
本发明涉及等离子体显示装置及其驱动方法。具体而言,本发明涉及等离子体显示装置的功率回收电路。
背景技术
等离子体显示装置是一种使用气体放电产生的等离子体来显示字符或图像的平板显示器。等离子体显示装置包括等离子体显示面板(PDP),PDP根据其尺寸,以矩阵形式设有数十乃至数百万个像素。
当一个PDP电极被施加维持放电脉冲,而另一电极用作电容性负载时,需要附加的无功功率以及用于维持放电的功率,以便将维持脉冲施加给这两个电极。从而,维持放电电路通常包括用于回收和重新使用无功功率的功率回收电路。
不过,对于传统的功率回收电路而言,极难回收100%的能量,这是由于在回收功率时,开关和电路会引起损耗,因而在功率回收操作期间,维持放电电压不能增加到维持放电脉冲的高电平电压,也不能减小到维持放电脉冲的低电平电压。在此状况下,当提供维持放电脉冲的高电平电压或低电平电压的开关被闭合时,该开关被硬切换,因而造成开关损坏,并引起电磁干扰(EMI)。因此,需要减小功率回收电路中的开关损耗。
发明内容
根据本发明,可提高与等离子体显示面板的维持放电电极相连的功率回收电路的功率回收效率。当功率回收电路施加给维持放电电极的电压增大时,将功率回收电路中第一功率回收电容器的电压设定为高于维持放电电压的一半,并且当功率回收电路施加给维持放电电极的电压减小时,将功率回收电路中第二功率回收电容器的电压设定为低于维持放电电压的一半,第一功率回收电容器和第二功率回收电容器均与维持放电电极相连。
根据本发明一个实施例的一种示例性等离子体显示装置,包括复数个第一电极、一个第一晶体管、一个第二晶体管、至少一个电感器、一个第四电源、一个第三晶体管、一个第五电源和一个第四晶体管。第一晶体管连接在第一电源与复数个第一电极之间,第一电源提供高于基准电压的第一电压。第二晶体管连接在第二电源与复数个第一电极之间,并且第二电源提供基准电压。所述的至少一个电感器具有与复数个第一电极相连的第一端。第四电源连接在第三电源的正极与负极之间,并且提供比第二电压高的第三电压,其中第二电压与第一电压与基准电压之间的电压差的一半相当。第三晶体管连接在所述至少一个电感器中的一个电感器的第二端与第四电源之间。第五电源连接在第三电源的正极与负极之间,并且提供比第二电压低的第四电压。第四晶体管连接在所述至少一个电感器中所述电感器的第二端与第五电源之间。
根据本发明另一实施例的示例性驱动方法,驱动具有复数个第一电极的等离子体显示装置。在该驱动方法中,由第一电源提供第一电压,所述第一电压大于基准电压。提供第二电源,该第二电源用于供给大于第一电压的一半的第二电压。提供第三电源,该第三电源用于供给小于第一电压的一半的第三电压。通过从第二电源经由与第二电源相连的电感器向第一电极提供第二电压,来增大提供给复数个第一电极的电压。接着,第一电压被施加给复数个第一电极。通过从第三电源经由与第二电源相连的电感器向第一电极提供第三电压,来减小提供给复数个第一电极的电压。然后,基准电压被提供给复数个第一电极。

具体实施方式
参照图1,等离子体显示装置包括PDP 100、寻址电极驱动器200、扫描电极驱动器320、维持电极驱动器340和控制器400。
PDP 100包括复数个沿列向延伸的寻址电极A1到Am,和复数个成对的沿行向延伸的维持电极X1到Xn和扫描电极Y1到Yn。下面,将寻址电极称作A电极,将维持电极称作X电极,将扫描电极称作Y电极。
寻址电极驱动器200从控制器200接收寻址驱动控制信号SA,并将显示数据信号施加给相应A电极,以选择要显示的放电单元。
扫描电极驱动器320和维持电极驱动器340分别从控制器200接收扫描电极驱动信号SY和维持电极驱动信号SX,并将驱动电压分别施加给Y电极和X电极。
控制器400从外部接收视频信号,产生寻址驱动控制信号SA,扫描电极驱动信号SY和维持电极驱动信号SX,并将信号SA,SY,SX分别传送给寻址电极驱动器200、扫描电极驱动器320和维持电极驱动器340。
现在将参照附图描述根据本发明示例性实施例的扫描电极驱动器电路的结构和操作。
图2A为根据本发明第一示例性实施例的扫描电极驱动器320的电路图。扫描电极驱动器320可同时与复数个Y电极Y1到Yn相连,或者与Y电极部分地相连。
如图2A中所示,扫描电极驱动器320包括晶体管Ys,Yg和二极管Ds,Dg。晶体管Ys具有与Vs电压相连的漏极,和与平板电容器Cp的Y电极相连的源极。晶体管Yg具有与该Y电极相连的漏极,和与接地端相连的源极。二极管Ds连接在电感器L与Vs电压之间,并且将电感器L的第一端处的电压箝位在Vs电压。二极管Dg连接在电感器L与接地端之间,并且将电感器L的第一端处的电压箝位在接地电压(在图2A中为0V)。此外,用于回收和重新使用功率的功率回收电路包括电感器L、晶体管Yr,Yf、二极管Dr,Df、电容器Cer,Cr,Cf以及电阻器Rr1,Rr2,Rf1,Rf2。

将参照图2A和图2B描述根据本发明第一示例性实施例,在维持周期内驱动电路的时间变化操作。此处,从模式1(M1)到模式4(M4)顺序执行时间变化操作,并且可通过晶体管的操作从一种模式改变为另一种。在下面的描述中,使用术语电感-电容(LC)谐振。应当理解的是,该术语并非必然表明振荡的无限性。在下面的描述中,使用术语LC谐振表示在电压增大或减小过程中,电压的性质所遵循的曲线或图形。半导体元件(晶体管或二极管)的阈值电压与放电电压相比相当低,因此,在下面的描述中,该阈值电压近似为OV。
图2B表示根据本发明第一示例性实施例,在各个模式下Y电极驱动器所形成的电流路径。
在第一示例性实施例中,假设在开始M1之前用Vs电压给电容器Cer充电。从而,在由电阻器Rr1,Rr2分压的电压中,电阻器Rr2处的电压对电容器Cr进行充电。即,电容器Cr处的电压Vcr为VsRr2/(Rr1+Rr2)。
在M1期间,晶体管Yr导通。从而,如图2B中所示,形成通过电容器Cr、晶体管Yr、二极管Dr、电感器L和平板电容器Cp的电流路径①,因而,在电感器L与平板电容器Cp之间产生LC谐振。由于LC谐振而充入电容器Cr中的电荷移动到平板电容器Cp,从而将平板电容器Cp充电,使得Y电极的电压从0V逐渐增大。
不过,由于在各个元件中形成的寄生成分,Y电极的电压不能达到Vs电压。从而,将充到电容器Cr上的电压设定为高于Vs电压的一半,从而将Y电极的电压增大到几乎为Vs电压。即,电容器Cr被充电为具有电压Vcr(Vcr=VsRr2/(Rr1+Rr2)),因此应当满足VsRr2/(Rr1+Rr2)>Vs/2。因此,将电阻器Rr2的阻值设定为大于电阻器Rr1的阻值。
在M2期间,晶体管Yr截止,晶体管Ys导通。从而,如图2B中所示,形成通过电源Vs、晶体管Ys和平板电容器Cp的电流路径②,由电源Vs提供的Vs电压通过晶体管Ys施加给平板电容器Cp的Y电极。
不过,在M1期间Y电极的电压已经增大到Vs电压,当M2期间晶体管Ys导通时,不会发生硬切换。
在M3期间,晶体管Ys截止,晶体管Yf导通,形成通过平板电容器Cp、电感器L、二极管Df、晶体管Yf和电容器Cf的电流路径③,如图2B中所示。因而,在电感器L与平板电容器Cp之间产生LC谐振。充入平板电容器Cp的电荷在LC谐振作用下移动到电容器Cf,从而对电容器Cf进行充电,而平板电容器Cp的Y电极的电压从Vs电压逐渐减小。
不过,如上所述,由于各个元件中形成的寄生成分,Y电极的电压不会减小到0V。从而,将充入电容器Cf的电压设定为低于Vs电压的一半,因此Y电极的电压几乎减小到0V。即,电容器Cf被充电成具有Vcf电压(Vcf=VsRf2/(Rf1+Rf2)),因而应当满足VsRf2/(Rf1+Rf2)<Vs/2。从而,将电阻器Rf2的阻值设定为小于电阻器Rf1的阻值。
在M4期间,晶体管Yf截止,晶体管Yg导通。从而,如图2B所示,形成通过电容器Cp、晶体管Yg和接地端的电流路径④,因而,平板电容器Cp的Y电极被施加接地电压。
不过,Y电极的电压在M3期间已经减小到0V,从而当晶体管Yg在M4期间导通时,不会发生硬切换。
如上所述,根据本发明该示例性实施例的功率回收电路执行高于电压Vs/2的电势的上升操作,并执行低于电压Vs/2的电势的下降操作,从而借助功率回收操作可使Y电极的电压增大到Vs电压或减小到0V。
从M1到M4,Y电极的电压可在0V与Vs电压之间摆动。此外,在完成M4之后重复M1到M4中的操作。
另外,根据本发明第一示例性实施例,串联连接的电阻器与电容器Cer并联连接,并且电容器与串联电阻器中的一个电阻器相连。不过,串联连接的各个电阻器可以与各自电容器相连。
图3为根据本发明第二示例性实施例的Y电极驱动器320的电路图。
如图3中所示,Y电极驱动器320与本发明第一示例性实施例的Y电极驱动器相同,不过Y电极驱动器320还包括电容器Cr1,Cf1。
更详细而言,彼此串联连接并且与电容器Cer并联连接的电阻器Rr1,Rr2,分别与电容器Cr1和电容器Cr2并联连接。与电阻器Rr1,Rr2类似,彼此串联连接并且与电容器Cer并联连接的电阻器Rf1,Rf2,分别与电容器Cf1,Cf2并联连接。
在此情形中,与本发明第一示例性实施例类似,根据本发明第二示例性实施例,在功率回收操作的电压上升周期期间通过使用电容器Cr2提供的电荷来增大Y电极的电压,并通过使用电容器Cf2提供的电荷来减小Y电极的电压。
在第二示例性实施例中,通过将电阻器Rr2的阻值设定为大于电阻器Rr2的阻值,为电容器Cr2充电的电压Vcr2变得大于电压Vs的一半;通过将电阻器Rf2的阻值设定为小于电阻器Rf1的阻值,为电容器Cf2充电的电压Vcf2变得小于电压Vs的一半。
这样,通过功率回收操作,能够将Y电极的电压增大到Vs电压,并且能够将其减小到0V。从而,当晶体管Ys和晶体管Yg导通时,不会发生硬切换。此外,充入电容器Cer的电荷被同时充电到两对电容器Cr1,Cr2和Cf1,Cf2中,因此,与本发明的第一示例性实施例相比,可减小将电容器Cr2,Cf2充电的时间。

更详细而言,电容器Cer被充电为具有Vs电压,从而电容器Cr被充电为具有(Vs-Vdzr)电压(即,从Vs电压减小齐纳二极管Dzr的击穿电压Vdzr的电压),并且电容器Cf被充电为具有(Vs-Vdzf)电压(即,从Vs电压减小齐纳二极管Dzf的击穿电压Vdzf的电压)。
此时,将(Vs-Vdzr)电压设定为大于Vs电压的一半,将(Vs-Vdzf)电压设定为小于Vs电压的一半。即,将齐纳二极管Dzr,Dzf的击穿电压设定为满足Vdzr<Vs/2和Vdzf>Vs/2。
因而,通过功率回收操作,可将Y电极的电压增大到Vs电压和减小到0V,从而防止当晶体管Ys,Yg导通时发生硬切换。
根据本发明该示例性实施例,设定晶体管Yr,Yf,Ys,Yg为NMOS晶体管,从而可形成体二极管,不过它们也可由其他晶体管来取代。
此外,根据本发明该示例性实施例,二极管Dr连接在晶体管Yr与电感器L之间,二极管Df连接在晶体管Yf与电感器L之间,不过,二极管Dr的正极可以与晶体管Yr的漏极相连,二极管Df的正极可以与晶体管Yf的源极相连。
此外,根据本发明该示例性实施例,一个电感器与Y电极相连,从而交替地形成通过该电感器的充电路径和放电路径,不过也可使用两个电感器将充电路径与放电路径分开。另外,当使用两个电感器时,一个电感器连接在电容器Cr与晶体管Yr之间,另一电感器连接在电容器Cf与晶体管Yf之间。
此外,本发明该示例性实施例描述了扫描电极驱动器的功率回收电路,不过,上述示例性实施例可应用于维持电极驱动器和寻址电极驱动器的功率回收电路。
如上所述,在功率回收电路中,在电压上升周期期间将功率回收电容器的电压设定为大于维持放电电压的一半,并且在电压下降周期期间将功率回收电容器的电压设定为小于维持放电电压的一半。即,在平板电容器的电压增大到Vs电压或减小到0V之后,使用于提供维持放电电压的开关闭合,从而防止开关硬切换时产生的浪涌电流(inrush current),并且减小开关上的应力。
尽管结合目前认为实际的实施例描述了本发明,不过应当理解的是,本发明不限于所披露的实施例,相反,认为其涵盖包含在所附权利要求的精神和范围之内的多种变型和等效结构。
Claims (12)
1.一种等离子体显示装置,包括:
复数个第一电极;
连接在第一电源与所述复数个第一电极之间的第一晶体管,其中所述第一电源提供高于基准电压的第一电压;
连接在第二电源与所述复数个第一电极之间的第二晶体管,其中所述第二电源提供该基准电压;
至少一个电感器,具有与所述复数个第一电极相连的第一端;
连接在第三电源的正极与负极之间的第四电源,其提供高于第二电压的第三电压,以将施加给所述复数个第一电极的电压从所述基准电压增大至所述第一电压,所述第二电压与第一电压和基准电压之间的电压差的一半相当;
连接在所述至少一个电感器中的一个电感器的第二端和所述第四电源之间的第三晶体管;
连接在第三电源的正极与负极之间的第五电源,其提供低于第二电压的第四电压,以将施加给所述复数个第一电极的电压从所述第一电压减小至所述基准电压;以及
连接在所述至少一个电感器中一个电感器的第二端与所述第五电源之间的第四晶体管。
2.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示装置,
其中所述第四电源包括:
在第三电源的正极与负极之间串联连接的第一电阻器和第二电阻器,和
与第二电阻器并联连接的第一电容器,其经由第一电阻器与第二电阻器之间的节点提供第三电压,
其中所述第五电源包括:
在第三电源的正极与负极之间串联连接的第三电阻器和第四电阻器,和与第四电阻器并联连接的第二电容器,其经由第三电阻器与第四电阻器之间的节点提供第四电压。
3.如权利要求2所述的等离子体显示装置,其中第二电阻器的阻值大于第一电阻器的阻值,第四电阻器的阻值小于第三电阻器的阻值。
4.如权利要求2所述的等离子体显示装置,其中所述第四电源还包括与第一电阻器并联连接的第三电容器,所述第五电源还包括与第三电阻器并联连接的第四电容器。
5.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示装置,
其中所述第四电源包括在第三电源的正极与负极之间串联连接的第一齐纳二极管和第一电容器,并且该第四电源经由第一电容器与第一齐纳二极管之间的节点提供第三电压,并且
所述第五电源包括在第三电源的正极与负极之间串联连接的第二齐纳二极管和第二电容器,并且该第五电源经由第二电容器与第二齐纳二极管之间的节点提供第四电压。
6.如权利要求5所述的等离子体显示装置,其中第一齐纳二极管的击穿电压小于第二电压,而第二齐纳二极管的击穿电压大于第二电压。
7.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示装置,其中所述第三电源包括第五电容器,用于充入与第一电压和基准电压之间的电压差相当的电压,并且该第五电容器具有与第二电源相连的负极。
8.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示装置,还包括:
第一二极管,其电连接在所述至少一个电感器与第三晶体管之间,并且确定一个为第一电极充电的电流方向,和
第二二极管,其电连接在所述至少一个电感器与第四晶体管之间,并且确定一个使第一电极放电的电流方向。
9.如权利要求1所述的等离子体显示装置,其中所述第一电极的电压通过使第三晶体管导通来增大,并通过使第四晶体管导通来减小到第二电压。
10.一种具有复数个第一电极的等离子体显示装置的驱动方法,该驱动方法包括:
由第一电源提供第一电压,所述第一电压大于基准电压;
提供第二电源,该第二电源用于供给大于第一电压与基准电压之间的电压差的一半的第二电压;
提供第三电源,该第三电源用于供给小于第一电压与基准电压之间的电压差的一半的第三电压;
通过从第二电源经由与第二电源相连的电感器向第一电极供给第二电压,来将施加给所述复数个第一电极的电压从所述基准电压增大至所述第一电压;
将第一电压施加给所述复数个第一电极;
通过从第三电源经由与第二电源相连的电感器向第一电极供给第三电压,来将施加给所述复数个第一电极的电压从所述第一电压减小至所述基准电压;以及
将基准电压施加给所述复数个第一电极。
11.如权利要求10所述的驱动方法,其中:
所述第二电源包括第一电容器,该第一电容器经由第一电阻器与第一电源的一端相连,
所述第三电源包括第二电容器,该第二电容器经由第二电阻器与第一电源的一端相连;
所述提供第二电源的步骤包括,用由第一电源供给的电荷将第一电容器充电,并且
所述提供第三电源的步骤包括,用由第一电源供给的电荷将第二电容器充电。
12.一种用于提高与等离子体显示面板的维持放电电极相连的功率回收电路的功率回收效率的方法,包括:
当该功率回收电路施加给维持放电电极的电压从基准电压增大至维持放电电压时,将功率回收电路中第一功率回收电容器的电压设定为大于维持放电电压的一半,其中所述第一功率回收电容器与维持放电电极相连;和
当该功率回收电路施加给维持放电电极的电压从维持放电电压减小至基准电压时,将功率回收电路中第二功率回收电容器的电压设定为小于维持放电电压的一半,其中所述第二功率回收电容器与维持放电电极相连。
