Device for turning on the spot of vehicles, in particular motor vehicles. The subject matter of the present invention is a device for turning vehicles, in particular motor vehicles, on the spot.
Until now, due to the poor mobility of the steering wheels in vehicles where these steering wheels were not diminished enough to be pivoted under the front frame, these vehicles could not be turned on the spot. This is mainly the case in automobiles where, for design reasons, all the wheels have the same diameter. In many places, such a turn cannot happen without time-consuming and, depending on the location of the vehicle, dangerous driving forwards and backwards.
With the device according to the present invention, these inconveniences are completely eliminated. It allows a car of the usual type, for example, to rotate any number of degrees wherever the available space is as wide as the car is long.
This device is characterized in that it has means which enable the wheels to be pivoted symmetrically at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the car, to the extent that the wheels lie on a circle drawn from the center of the other wheel axis, whereupon the car moves around it Center can be rotated.
Some exemplary embodiments of a device according to the invention are shown in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a plan view of a motor vehicle to which the device is attached in a first form; Fig. 2 is the compilation on a larger scale of the same facility. This figure shows how the various parts shown in Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6 are interconnected; Fig. 3 is a partially sectioned plan view of part of the device and Fig. 4 is a section on the line IV-IV of Fig. 3; Figure 5 is a longitudinal section on the line V-V of Figure 2; Fig. 6 is a section on the line VI-VI of Fig. 2; 7 and 8 are a longitudinal section, respectively.
a section along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7 through a device which can take the place of that which is shown in FIGS. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6; 9 is a longitudinal section through a rear axle which is set up so that the car can be turned after the front axle has pivoted; Figures 10 and 11 are details pertaining to a device which allows the car to be turned by driving the front wheels.
Referring to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 6, a is the front wheels of an automobile. These wheels are used as steering wheels and are arranged pivotably at the end of the front axle b. They are united with a handlebar c, which transmits the movement communicated to one wheel by the control to the other wheel in the usual way.
In all of the embodiments of the invention shown here, this rod c is in two parts. The two parts can be mutually displaced in such a way that a symmetrical pivoting of the steering wheels obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the car is accomplished in such a way, until the wheels a lie on a circle with its center in the middle of the rear axle. This position is shown in FIG.
Afterwards, either the rear wheels of the car can be moved so that they turn in opposite directions and also move the car to the left or right on a circle with its center in the middle of the rear axle , or one or both front wheels can also intervene at the end of the pivoting in devices that give them the movement necessary to turn the car. In both cases, however, the same devices can be used to pivot the front wheels.
Appropriately, this Vorrich device for pivoting the front wheels will be provided with a lock that ent neither specially or automatically can be operated by the same means that are used to pivot the wheels. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 relate to an example of this device, in which this Ver locking is operated independently of the means used to turn the front wheels.
The wheels a are pivotable in a known manner at the end of the front axle b. For this purpose they are connected with a rod c (Fig. 1 and 2), which can be operated from the driver's seat by means of the steering wheel d and control rod d1 transversely to the longitudinal axis of the car. This handlebar c is in two parts (Fig. 6) and consists of a rack c1 and a guided over it, partially slotted th tube c2. Each of these parts is attached to a wheel and they can be moved either to pivot the wheels independently of one another or to manage the car. In the latter case, they are connected by a bolt e1 and the tube c2 is moved by a screw d2 fixed on the control rod d1. The housing e clamped onto the pipe c2 goes along with it.
In the first case, after the decoupling has taken place, the rod c1 is moved by the wheel e3 and the tube c2 is pushed indirectly by the wheel e2 over the rod c1. For this purpose, the following devices are provided: The known link k for moving the wheels is hinged to a rod k1 which is moved by the wheel e2.
A gear d2 (Fig. 5) is also keyed on the guide rod d1. This wheel can be coupled to a spindle f1 (FIGS. 2, 5 and 6) by means of a sliding coupling f2, which can be moved along the spindle f1 by an arm f3. The oscillating movement of the arm f3 is communicated to him by a rod f ', which in turn is connected to a cross slide g'.
This transverse slide (Fig. 2, 3 and 4) is connected at one end to an anticipated sector g2 and extends with a pin g3 into the inclined recess g4 of a longitudinal slide g5, which from the driver's seat by a rod g6 (Fig. 2 and 3) in a slide g7 attached to a carriage part can be moved. The longitudinal movements of the slide g5 result in a transverse movement of the slide g1. This transverse movement is transmitted to a toothed pinion g8 by means of the sector g2 and communicated to an eccentric e4 by means of a universal joint and a rod g9 that can be extended telescopically in the longitudinal direction (FIGS. 2 and 3).
The rotation of this eccentric is communicated to the bolt e1 by an eyelet and this is pulled out of the notch e6 provided for connecting rod c1 and tube c2 against the action of a spring e5. It is then possible to operate the tube c2 and the rod c1 independently of each other to pivot the wheels a in the position shown in FIG. This is done on the one hand by the spindle f1, which has been connected to the control rod by the coupling f2, and which acts by means of a universal joint on the axis e8 of the wheel e3 and thus (Fig. 2 and 6) on the rod c1, on the other hand through the Snail d2, whose movement is transferred to wheel e2 and from there to the right wheel.
There are not shown stops before seen so that the wheels a stop in the position in which they are on a circle struck around the center of the rear axle. Then the rear wheels can be turned in mutually opposite directions in order to turn the car ent either to the right or to the left.
This device works as follows: To swivel the wheels a, it is first necessary to unlock the rod c1 and the tube c2; this is done by pulling the rod g6. As a result, the longitudinal slide g5 is moved in its slideway g7, the pin g3 moves into the slot g4 and the transverse slide g1 experiences a longitudinal movement. The latter has the consequence: 1. The pivoting of the toothed sector g2 around its center, which results in a rotation of the pinion g8 and the rod g9 connected with it. As a result, the eccentric e4 is rotated and the cam e1 is pushed out of the groove e6 of the rod c1 against the action of the spring e5. The unlocking is now complete.
2. The oscillation of the rod f4 around its fixed center on the housing f, the movement of the arm f3 and the sliding of the coupling f2 on the axis f1. The parts are then so far in mutual position to one another that by rotating the guide rod d1 the wheels, on the one hand by the worm, the wheel e2, the rod k1 and the link k, on the other hand by the gear d3 and the on the axis f1 seated clutch f2 can be rotated. After the trolley has been turned, the locking of the rod c1 and the tube c2 on the one hand and the decoupling of the wheel d3 from the axle f1 on the other hand is effected by a backward movement of the rod e6. All parts perform a retrograde movement that brings them back to the gezeich designated position in FIGS. 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The device can also be constructed in such a way that the unlocking of rod c1 and tube c2 takes place automatically. Such an embodiment is shown in FIGS.
The rod c1 is also toothed here and it is moved relative to the tube c2 by means of a toothed ring 7h1, which is toothed on the outside and inside. For this purpose, a coupling h2 is provided, which can slide on the spindle h3, but entrains it in its rotation. This clutch h2 has a pinion h30 which, on the one hand, is under the influence of a spring h4 and, on the other hand, is held in the disengaged position by a bolt h5 under spring pressure. The rod h? is seen in h.6 with a thread that is directed to take a nut h 'a.
The spring h4 rests against this nut and presses on the spring h8 with the interposition of a plate-like intermediate piece h14. This spring h8 is tensioned in the disengaged state and tends to bring the nut h7 onto the thread h6.
This nut h7 is guided in an extension h9 of the housing, so that it cannot rotate but can only move back and forth in the longitudinal direction on the axis h3. It is extended towards the bottom and carries a bush h10 in it, in which there is space for a spring h12. This is wound around a pin h11 and held in place by two nuts. This pin h11 forms the extension of the Rie gel l, which, arranged transversely to the rod c1, connects the latter with the tube c2. This bolt l is provided with a cross pin l1 against which a driver h13 leans on.
This device works as follows: If you want to bring the wheels a into a position pivoted symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the car, you rotate the axis h3 from the driver's seat, with which it is connected by a linkage, not shown. This clockwise rotation first brings the nut h7 onto the thread h6 and this under the influence of the spring h8. The spring of the bolt h5 is tensioned. At the end of their longitudinal movement, the upper lugs of the nut h7 come into contact with the lower most inclined surfaces of the bolt h5, so that it is shifted upward.
If this movement of the bolt h5 has become large enough to allow the coupling h2 to snap out of the right tooth of the bolt h5, the bolt l has also been pushed so far by the extension of the nut that the recess l2 under the rod c1 has reached and so the latter can allow movement. As soon as the pinion h30 is released, it jumps into the inner toothing of the ring and connects the axis h3 with the wheel h1. A further rotation of this axis causes a mutual displacement of the rod c1 and the tube c2. The nut h7 has been completely unscrewed from the areas of the thread h6. The plate-shaped extension h14, against which the spring h8 is supported, has remained so that the axis h3 can be rotated as large as desired.
If the car is now turned, and the wheels a are to keep their parallel position again and the rod c1 and the tube e2 are locked together, the axis h3 is rotated in the opposite direction of the clock pointer. Under the pressure of the spring, the nut h7 is brought back onto the thread h6 and screwed back. However, for the time being, no pull is exerted on pinion h30, so that it remains in mesh with ring h1. The backward movement of the nut h7 has tensioned the spring located in the bushing, because the bolt is prevented from moving longitudinally through its recess l2 until the sections of tube c2 and rod c1 match each other.
If this agreement is reached, this bolt springs back under the influence of the spring h12, its pin l1 strikes against the driver h13 of the pinion h30 and brings the latter into the disengaged position, i.e. H. into the position shown in FIG.
In special cases, for example in the case of large wagons, where a weakening of the rod c1 is not permitted, a special rod is preferably provided for locking the parts. The whole device is then slightly extended downwards without changing anything about their cooperation.
The turning of the vehicle after swiveling the front wheels can take place either by driving the rear axle or by driving the front axle.
Fig. 9 relates to an embodiment form in which the drive of the car takes place by a drive in mutually opposite system sense of the two rear wheels. The whole device is built into the box of the differential. A differential of the usual type is housed in the karter m, which consists of the ring gear m1, which is connected to the main shaft o by a conical pinion m2, the rotating planet gears m3 and the drives m4 wedged on the wheel axles.
On the bearing part m5 of the planetary gears m3, a second gear ring m6, which is the same as the gear ring m1, is mounted on balls. This ring gear m6 runs empty on the bearing part m5 during the forward movement of the carriage. It forms the driving part of a coupling and is provided for this purpose with internal toothing m7, in which a longitudinally movable pinion m8 can be inserted. This pinion m8 forms the moving part of a clutch, the entrained part m9 of which is wedged on a wheel axle p. This entrained part can perform small radial movements with respect to this wheel axle for the purpose of an effortless introduction of the movable part in its teeth.
The moving part m8 is designed as a rack at the outer end and is connected to a gear m10, which can be rotated by means of linkage m11 from the driver's seat.
If this wheel m10 is operated in such a way that the movable part m8 of the coupling is inserted into the toothing of the ring m6 and at the same time into the one of the entrained part m9, this wheel axis p is directly coupled to the drive axis. The ring gear m6 bridges the planet gears. If the drive axle rotates, the wheel axis p will revolve in the opposite direction to the wheel axis q and the whole car will rotate around a center located in the middle of the rear axle. The planet gears will only ro animals about their longitudinal axis.
An example of the driving of the car by the front axle is shown in FIGS. A cart r containing a gear r1 is mounted on the front axle w of the car. This wheel is through a linkage, not shown, with the speed box of the car in connec tion. A lever position is provided in order to be able to communicate a certain, usually small speed to this wheel r1. One front wheel is provided with a ring gear r2 which, in the pivoted position of the wheels, is brought into engagement with the toothing of the wheel r1. If the latter rotates in one sense or the other, then one front wheel is given a movement that is able to turn the whole car around a center located in the middle of the rear axle.
