We know that burial vaults are, conventionally, constituted by a masonry cabin built in one piece inside a pit and covered by a slab. Lateral shoulders are provided internally, which allow the provision of crosspieces supporting the caskets successively placed, in superposition, in the vault.

This method of manufacturing a cellar is not rational. It is limited to resuming, for the construction of each vault, relatively long masonry work which obliges, in the event of the first death in a family, to accommodation awaiting the coffin of the deceased, and takes no advantage of the fact that the dimensions of a cellar, only a function of the number of places it must contain, are always the same and therefore lend themselves to standardization.
