EMI1.3

Process for the preparation of basic azo compounds The invention relates to a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula
EMI1.1
wherein R is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, Ri is hydrogen or an optionally substituted one
Alkyl or alkoxy radical, R2 hydrogen or an optionally substituted one
Alkyl or aryl radical or the group of the formula
EMI1.2
Rs hydrogen or an optionally substituted one
Alkyl radical, any of the radicals
R4 and R5 are each hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical.
Z is a component of an optionally substituted one
Ring and
AG denotes an anion, the radicals Ri and R2 and / or the radicals R4 and R5 together with the nitrogen atom bonded to R2 or to R4 can form heterocycles and the aromatic ring B can be further substituted by other non-water-solubilizing substituents, thereby characterized in that one is a compound of the formula
EMI1.3
with a compound of the formula
R-A (III), in which A is a radical which can be converted into an anion, quaternized, d. H. with a quaternizing agent. In the compounds of formula (I), the anion AG can be replaced by other anions, e.g. B. with the help of an ion exchanger or by reacting with salts or acids, optionally in several stages, e.g. B. via the hydroxide.
Good connections conform to the formula
EMI2.1
wherein Y is a component of an optionally substituted
5- or 6-membered ring and X is a sulfur or an optionally substituted one
Mean nitrogen atom.
Similar good connections correspond to the formula
EMI2.2
wherein the aromatic ring D may be substituted.
Equally good compounds correspond to the formula
EMI2.3
wherein R6 denotes an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl radical.
Particularly good connections correspond to the formula
EMI2.4
wherein R7 is methyl, ethyl or -CH2- #, R8 is hydrogen, halogen or an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy radical, Rs is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy radical, Mio is an optionally substituted alkyl or Rn
Aryl radical or the group -CH2 CH-CO-NH-R4 and Rrt are hydrogen or methyl and the aromatic ring E can be substituted by substituents which do not make water soluble.
Anion AG is understood to mean both organic and inorganic ions, such as, for. B. halogen, such as chloride, bromide or iodide, sulfate, disulfate, methyl sulfate, aminosulfonate, perchlorate, carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, phosphotungstate, phosphotungsten molybdate, benzenesulfonate, naphthalenesulfonate , 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate, oxalate, maleate, acetate, propionate, methanesulfonate, chloroacetate or benzoate ions or complex anions, such as that of chlorozinc double salts. The quaternization can be carried out by methods known per se, e.g. B.
in an inert solvent or optionally in aqueous suspension or without a solvent in an excess of the quaternizing agent at elevated temperatures and in a buffered medium.
Quaternizing agents are, for example, alkyl halides, e.g. B. methyl or ethyl chloride, bromide or iodide, alkyl sulfates such as dimethyl sulfate, acrylic acid amides / hydrohalides, e.g. B. CH2 = CH - CO NH2 / HCl, epoxides such as ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, epichlorohydrin, etc.
The compounds of the formula (I) are preferably free from water-solubilizing substituents, in particular from sulfonic acid groups. You can, however, carry a carboxyl group.
Halogen in any case preferably denotes chlorine, bromine or fluorine.
Alkyl radicals usually contain 1 to 12, or 1 to 6 and preferably 1 to 4 carbon atoms. If these radicals are substituted, they contain in particular halogen atoms, hydroxyl or cyano groups or aryl radicals, such as, for example, phenyl radicals; In such cases, alkyl represents an aralkyl radical, e.g. B. a benzyl radical.
Aryl radicals, such as phenyl, naphthyl or tetrahydronaphthyl radicals, are in particular substituted by halogen atoms, hydroxyl or cyano groups, by alkyl or alkoxy radicals or by aryl radicals such as phenyl radicals.
Alkoxy radicals contain, for example, 1 to 6 and preferably 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
Hydrocarbon radicals are, for example, optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radicals, e.g. B. cyclohexyl or phenyl radicals.
Substituents which do not make water soluble are, for example, halogen atoms, optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy radicals, preferably low molecular weight, e.g. B. 1 to 3 carbon atoms containing alkyl or alkoxy radicals, the cyano or nitro group, an optionally substituted alkyl or arylsulfonyl group, e.g. A methyl, ethyl or phenylsulfonyl radical, an acylated amino group, a substituted sulfonic acid amide group, e.g. a disubstituted sulfonic acid amide group, etc.
Heterocyclic, preferably 5- or 6-membered ring systems that form the skeleton
EMI3.1
These are based on, for example, thiazoles, such as benzothiazoles, thiadiazoles, indazoles, imidazoles, pyrroles, indoles, oxazoles, isoxazoles, pyrazolines, pyridines, quinolines, tetrahydroquinolines, etc.
Compounds of the formula (IX) can be obtained if an optionally substituted 1-aminobenzene is reacted with 1 or 2 moles of an acrylamide. Compounds of the formula (II) can be obtained if an optionally substituted 1-aminobenzene is reacted with 1 or 2 moles of an acrylamide. Compounds of the formula (II) can be obtained by coupling the diazo compound from a heterocyclic amine with a coupling component of the formula (IX).
The new dyes are used for dyeing or printing fibers, threads or textiles made therefrom, which consist of or contain acrylonitrile polymers or copolymers.
You can also dye or print synthetic polyamides or synthetic polyesters which have been modified by an acidic group. Such polyamides are known, for example, from Belgian patent specification 706 104. The corresponding polyesters are known from US Patents 3,018,272 or 3,379,723.
They are also used to color plastic masses or leather or to color paper.
It is particularly advantageous to dye in an aqueous, neutral or acidic medium at temperatures from 60 to 100 "C. or at temperatures above 100" C. under pressure. Very level colorations are obtained here even without the use of retarders. Mixed fabrics which contain a proportion of polyacrylonitrile fibers can also be dyed very well. Those dyes which have good solubility in organic solvents are also suitable for coloring natural plastic compositions or dissolved or undissolved plastic, synthetic resin or natural resin compositions. Some of the new dyes can be used, for example, to dye tannin cotton, regenerated cellulose or synthetic polyamides.
It has been shown that mixtures of two or more of the new dyes can also advantageously be used. The dyeings obtained have good light fastness and good wet fastness properties. Compared to the closest comparable dyes from American Patent 3,132,132, the dyes of the formula (I), also colored on polyacrylonitrile, have better lightfastness.
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
9.6 parts of a compound of the formula
EMI3.2
are stirred in 100 parts of glacial acetic acid and treated with 1.1 parts of magnesium oxide. The mixture is heated to 60-700. 63 parts of dimethyl sulfate are then added dropwise over a period of 30 minutes and the mixture is then stirred at 70-75 for 3 hours. The mass is then poured into 1000 parts of water and the dye is isolated by adding 50 parts of sodium chloride and 7 parts of zinc chloride. The dye is filtered off and washed. It dyes polyacrylonitrile in level blue shades with good lightfastness and good wetfastness
Example 2
44.1 parts of a compound of the formula
EMI4.1
are stirred in 300 parts of glacial acetic acid and mixed with 4.1 parts of magnesium oxide. The mixture is warmed to 60-70.
25.2 parts of dimethyl sulfate are then added dropwise over a period of 45 minutes such that the temperature remains constant. The mixture is then stirred at 750 for 3 hours. The mass is then stirred into 3000 parts of water and the dye is precipitated by adding 200 parts of common salt and 28 parts of zinc chloride. The product is filtered off and washed with a 50% sodium chloride solution. The dye dyes polyacrylonitrile in level blue shades with good lightfastness and good wetfastness.
In the following Table A, the structure of further dyes is given. They can be prepared according to the information in Examples 1 and 2 and correspond to the formula
EMI4.2
where Rio to Rio have the meanings given in the table.
As the anion O, those listed in the description are suitable.

Staining instructions
20 parts of the dye from Example 1 are mixed with 80 parts of dextrin in a ball mill for 48 hours, 1 part of the preparation obtained in this way is made into a paste with 1 part of 400% acetic acid, 200 parts of demineralized water are poured over the paste and briefly boiled. It is diluted with 7000 parts of demineralized water, 2 parts of glacial vinegar are added and, at 600, 100 parts of polyacrylonitrile fabric are added to the bath. The material can be pretreated beforehand for 10 to 15 minutes at 600 in a bath consisting of 8000 parts of water and 2 parts of glacial acetic acid.
It is heated to 98 to 100 within 30 minutes, boiled for lilo hours and rinsed. A blue dyeing with good lightfastness and good wet fastness properties is obtained.
