Process for the preparation of basic compounds of the monoazo series
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula
EMI1.1
where R is an ß-hydroxyalkyl group which is optionally substituted by an unsubstituted alkyl group or an alkyl group further substituted by alkoxy, Rt is an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group, R2 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl group, R3 is hydrogen or, in conjunction with Rt or R2, a component of a heterocycle, Z is a component of an optionally substituted ring and As is an anion equivalent to the dye cation,
where the radicals RJ and R2 can form a heterocycle together with the adjacent N atom and the aromatic ring B can be substituted by further substituents which do not make water soluble, characterized in that a compound of the formula
EMI1.2
in an acidic medium, advantageously in the presence of an organic acid, with a compound which has at least one group of the formula
EMI1.3
contains.
In the compounds of the formula (I), the anion A9 can be exchanged for other anions, e.g. B.
with the aid of an ion exchanger or by reaction with salts or acids, optionally in several stages, e.g. B. via the hydroxide. Particularly good connections correspond to the formula
EMI1.4
wherein Y is a component of a mononuclear or polynuclear ring which is optionally substituted by substituents which do not make water solubility and which may contain further heteroatoms and 5 denotes a sulfur or nitrogen atom, or of the formula
EMI2.1
Wherein the rings B and / or D can be substituted by further non-water-solubilizing substituents.
The compounds of formula (III) used are advantageously propylene oxide or ethylene oxide.
The compounds of the formula (I) can also be prepared by using hydrazones of heterocyclic compounds or functional derivatives thereof, their radicals of the formula
EMI2.2
correspond with amines of the formula
EMI2.3
couple oxidatively.
The compounds of the formula (I) are preferably free from water-solubilizing substituents, in particular from sulfonic acid groups.
Alkyl radicals R1 and R2 usually contain 1 to 12 and preferably 1 to 4 carbon atoms. If these radicals are substituted, they contain in particular halogen atoms, hydroxyl or cyano groups or aryl radicals, for example phenyl radicals; In such cases, alkyl represents an aralkyl radical, e.g. B. a benzyl radical.
Aryl radicals are in particular substituted by halogen atoms, hydroxyl or cyano groups, by alkyl or alkoxy radicals such as phenyl radicals. In any case, halogen is preferably to be understood as meaning chlorine or bromine.
The radicals R1 and R2 can, together with the adjacent N atom, form a heterocycle, e.g. B.
a pyrrolidine, piperazine, morpholine, aziridine or piperidine ring.
Substituents that do not make water solubility are, for example, a halogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group, the cyano or nitro group, an optionally substituted alkyl or arylsulfonyl group, an acylated amino group, a substituted sulfonic acid amide group, etc.
The β-hydroxyalkyl radical can contain 2 to 12, but advantageously 3, 4, 5 or 6 carbon atoms.
Heterocyclic, preferably 5- or 6-membered ring systems that form the framework
EMI2.4
These are based on, for example, thiazoles, such as benzothiazoles, thiadiazoles, indazoles, imidazoles, pyrroles, indoles, oxazoles, isoxazoles, pyrazolines, pyridines, quinolines, etc.
R3 in conjunction with R2 or R3 can be a component of a heterocycle, such as, for. B. morpholines, piperidines, carbazoies, partially hydrogenated quinolines or indoles, etc. Anion Ao is understood to mean both organic and inorganic ions, eg. H.
Halogen, such as chlorine, bromine, iodide, or methyl sulfate, sulfate, disulfate, perchlorate, phosphate, phosphorus tungsten molybdate, benzene sulfonate or naphthalene sulfonate, 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate, oxalate, acetate, maleate , Propionate, methanesulfonate, chloroacetate or benzoate ions or complex anions, such as. B.
that of zinc chloride double sentences.
The reaction of a compound of the formula (II) with a compound which contains the grouping of the formula (III) at least once is usually carried out in the presence of formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid or benzoic acid. However, the reaction can also be carried out in the presence of inorganic acids, such as sulfuric acid, perchloric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrohalic acid, etc. These can be used in concentrated, commercially available form, or as a dilute aqueous solution or as a mixture with organic solvents, optionally with the addition of water.
If the reaction is carried out with organic acids, the concentrated form of these acids is usually used, or mixed with water or organic solvents.
Suitable organic solvents are organic hydrocarbons, e.g. B. benzene, toluene, xylene, halogenated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g. B. chloroform, ethylene chloride, chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, alcohols such as ethanol, ethylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, ketones such as acetone, cyclohexanone, esters such as ethyl acetate, ethers such as diethyl ether, dioxane, nitro compounds such as nitrobenzane. The reaction can also be carried out in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid, boron trifluoride or tin (IV) chloride.
The reaction is advantageously carried out at temperatures between -20 "to +200 C, preferably at +30 to i * 70 C. For the reaction, the compounds of the formula tII) are preferably completely or partially dissolved in the acidic mixtures and in the equivalent amount or in a An excess of an epoxy compound is added, the latter being able to be added all at once or gradually.
The dyes are used for dyeing or printing fibers, threads or textiles made therefrom, which consist of or contain acrylonitrile polymers or acrylonitrile polymers
They are also used to color plastics, leather and paper.
It is particularly advantageous to dye in an aqueous, neutral or acidic medium at temperatures from 600 ° C. to the boiling point or at temperatures above 1000 ° C. under pressure. Level dyeings with good lightfastness and good wetfastnesses are obtained. Those dyes which have good solubility in organic solvents are also suitable for coloring natural plastic compositions or dissolved or undissolved plastic, synthetic resin or natural resin compositions. Some of the new dyes can be used, for example, to dye tanned cotton, wool, silk, regenerated cellulose and synthetic polyamides. It has been shown that mixtures of two or more of the new dyes or mixtures with other cationic dyes can also advantageously be used.
From the Dutch patent application 66 08 698 are u. a. Dyes of the formula
EMI3.1
known, wherein R 'and R "can each be chloroalkyl and Xo is an anion. The dyes of the formula (a) can be obtained by using a compound of the formula
EMI3.2
reacts with epichlorohydrin, d. H. quaternized. Compared to these dyes, the dyes of the formula (I) have better resistance to boiling.
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
39 parts of a compound of the formula
EMI3.3
are dissolved in 315 parts of glacial acetic acid at 300, and 17 parts of propylene oxide are added with stirring. After 24 hours, the mixture is diluted with 1000 parts of water, undissolved by-products are filtered off and the dye is precipitated from the filtrate by adding sodium chloride.
The isolated dye of the formula
EMI3.4
dissolves in water with a blue color.
Example 2
If the compound a) used in Example 1 is reacted with ethylene oxide, working in a closed steel apparatus, the dye of the formula is obtained

Staining instructions
20 parts of the dye from Example 1 are mixed with 80 parts of dextrin in a ball mill for 48 hours.
1 part of the preparation obtained in this way is made into a paste with 1 part of 40% of the above acetic acid, 400 parts of demineralized water are poured over the paste and briefly boiled. It is diluted with 7000 parts of demineralized water, 2 parts of glacial acetic acid are added and 100 parts of polyacrylonitrile fabric are added to the bath at 600 parts. The material can be pretreated beforehand for 10 to 15 minutes at 60 in a bath consisting of 8000 parts of water and 2 parts of glacial acetic acid.
The mixture is heated to 98-100 within 30 minutes, boiled for 1 1/2 hours and rinsed. A blue dyeing with good lightfastness and good wet fastness properties is obtained.
