Shuttleless loom breaker
The weft breaker is an essential safety device for the proper functioning of any loom; it consists of stopping the machine mechanically or electrically when the weft thread breaks.
On shuttle and bobbin looms, the weft is checked either in the middle of the leaf by a horizontal fork which is retained or not in height by the weft, or outside the width by a fork vertical which is repelled or not by the weft.
On looms without shuttle direct feeding from a spool placed laterally, two solutions are also possible:
1) check the weft over the length of it
located between the coil and the called member
Weft donor,
2) check the weft on its end lying
opposite to the distributor.
The first solution cannot be suitable for a loom without a shuttle of the gables type, that is to say with development of a loop, one end of which is held on the supply side. In fact, in this case, the weft is only checked at the time of unwinding on the reel and, therefore, the part of the loop which develops is not checked. It is therefore essential to control the end of the loop that is developing.
This control is generally carried out by presenting in front of the frame a vertical fork pivoting around its upper end, this fork, pushed back by the frame, causing a stop device to escape. However, this fork must be mounted on a device allowing it to descend to stand in front of the weft and to rise after the check to escape the comb.
In order to avoid a permanent stop of the machine, the electric current necessary for the stop command must be distributed only at the moment of the weft control, which requires a cyclic contactor controlled by a cam.
The present invention relates to a weft breaker for a shuttle-less weaving loom with continuous weft feed, ensuring control of the weft on the side opposite to the feed, characterized in that, being positioned at a fixed point, it comprises a needle freely pivoting without constraint in contact with which the weft thread comes into contact, this needle being arranged to cooperate with the flapper in the event of the weft thread being absent and causing the loom to stop.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view.
Fig. 2 is a front view, also in elevation.
On the frame 1 of the loom is fixed a support 2 on which is mounted a microswitch 3 held on said support 2 by means of bolts 4.
The lever 5 of the microswitch 3 supports at its end a needle 6 mounted freely around an axis 7 integral with the lever 5.
This needle 6 is formed by two strands: one is directed downwards and bent at its end at 6a to promote its support on the weft 8 to be checked, while the other approaches the horizontal position and its end 6b forms a hook to cooperate with the notch 10 of a support 11 which is clamped on the leaf 9.
When the weft is deposited in the shed, the flapper 9 advances in the direction of the arrow and forces the end of the weft 8 to pass under the lower strand 6a of the needle 6. Therefore, the hook 6b of the strand horizontal position of the needle is kept raised and passes above the notch 10 by rotation about the axis 7.
On the other hand, if, for some reason, the weft 8 cannot reach the strand 6a of the control needle, the latter is not stressed and its notch 10, which follows the forward movement of the beating 9, will drive the lever 5 of the microswitch via the hooked strand 6b of the needle 6. The electrical stop circuit is thus activated and the machine stops.
This frame breaker therefore obviates the drawbacks of those recalled in the preamble of the present description.
In particular, it does not include any movement of the assembly or cyclic control for stopping the loom.
