dans lesquelles R représente un reste hydroxy-carboxy-phényle, W représente un reste monosulfo-hydroxy-2- naphtyl-1, monosulfo-hydroxy-1-naphtyl-2, ou acylamino-monosulfo-hydroxy-1-naphtyl-2 et X représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe sulfonique, complexes dans lesquels le cuivre bivalent est fixé au colorant trisazdique à raison d'un atome de métal par molécule de colorant et ce par 17intermédiaire des groupes hv- droxy du groupement o,
o'-dihydroxyazoique.

Il est important, une fois la métallisation terminée, de détruire ce complexe de chélation afin d'obtenir un colorant plus facilement soluble dans l'eau et de nuance plus vive.A cet effet, on utilise des agents séques- trants, par exemple, le sel tétra-sodique de l'acide éthylènediamino-tétraacétique ;

The present invention relates to a process for preparing the copper complexes of the trisazo dyes of formulas :

EMI0001.0005
where R represents a hydroxy-carboxy-phenyl residue, W represents a monosulfo-hydroxy-2-naphthyl-1, monosulfo-hydroxy-1-naphthyl-2, or acylamino-monosulfo-hydroxy-1-naphthyl-2 and X represents a hydrogen atom or a sulphonic group, complexes in which the bivalent copper is attached to the trisazdic dye at a proportion of one metal atom per dye molecule and this by means of the hv-droxy groups of the group o,
o'-dihydroxyazoique. As acylamino groups, mention may be made of the acetylamino, benzoylamino, ethoxy-carbonylamino, methoxyethoxy-carbonylamino, simple ureido H2N - CO - NH - groups or substituted on the NH2 group.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that a dealkylating metallization of the dyes of formulas is carried out :

using divalent copper compounds and the residue R is demetallized in an alkaline medium using sequestering agents. The 0-alkyl group is transformed into a hydroxy group by hydrolysis ; the copper attaches itself to the hydroxy groups at ortho-ortho 'of the azo bond.
An excess of copper is generally necessary to bring about the complete hydrolysis of the 0-alkyl group and this excess leads alternatively to the formation of a chelation complex between the copper and the hydroxy and carboxy groups of the remainder hydroxy-carboxy-phenyl.
It is important, once the metallization is complete, to destroy this chelation complex in order to obtain a dye that is more easily soluble in water and has a more vivid shade. A For this purpose, sequestering agents are used, for example, the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediamino-tetraacetic acid ;
the complex is selectively demetallized, preferably either by adding the sequestering agent to the reaction mixture after dealkylating metallization, or by subsequent treatment of the complex isolated from its formation medium, or by mixing the sequestering agent with the isolated and dried complex, or finally by adding the sequestering agent to the dye bath.
The 1: 1 complexes according to the invention are particularly suitable for dyeing vegetal fibers ; shades are obtained which are solid to light and washing. .

are dissolved to salt of sodium in 2400 parts of water at 900 C. This solution is added to 10 parts of bicarbonate of sodium; slowly add a solution comprising 30 parts of crystallized copper sulphate, 150 parts (water and 56.5 parts of ammonia at 20% by volume. The mixture is heated for 12 hours at 90-920 C and the colorant is separated by adding chloride </ B> sodium.
The paste of the copper compound is taken up with 2500 parts of a 1% solution of tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminotetraacetic acid. It is heated for 30 minutes at 80-85o C and reprecipitates the dye by adding sodium chloride ; this dye only contains a metal atom in its molecule. It dyes the cellulose fibers in a green shade that draws on the olive.
Example 2 The 95.5 parts of colorant used in example 1 are replaced by 101.2 parts of the trisazo compound of formula:

and 30 parts of copper sulfate per 35 parts of, this product. By operating under conditions similar to those of Example 1, , after treatment with the sequestering agent, a copper complex is obtained. contains only one metal atom per dye molecule. This complex dyes cellulosic fibers a bright olive green.
Example3 The procedure is as in example 1, but using 105.7 parts of the trisazo dye of formula:
EMI0003.0002
Once the metallization is complete, a concentrated solution of tetrasodium salt of ethylenediamino-tetraacetic acid is introduced at 900 C into the reaction liquid in an amount such that its concentration is equal to 1% </ B > in the mixture. After 30 minutes of stirring at 900 C, the dye is isolated by adding sodium chloride to the liquid. The copper complex thus obtained contains only one copper atom per molecule of dye and dyes the cellulosic fibers green.
Example 4 The copper complex of the trisazo dye of formula:
EMI0003.0008
is prepared according to the indications of Example 2. The dye obtained dyes the cellulose fibers in olive green.

are coppery and then selectively demetallized in accordance with the process of Example 3. A dye is obtained which dyes the cellulose fibers in a yellowish green shade drawing on the olive.
