Method for assembling two strands of a tie and apparatus for carrying out this method
The subject of the present invention is a method for assembling two strands of a tie and an apparatus for implementing this method.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the two strands are placed side by side against a face of a ring, in that these strands are deformed so that a part passes through the hole of the ring. , the strands thus cutting the plane of the ring into two zones close to the inside of the ring and located on either side of the axis of the latter, in that the ring is deformed in a first direction, perpendicular to its plane, acting on it near said zones, so that the parts of the ring outside these zones are placed on one side of the strands and the internal parts at the extensions of these zones of the 'other side of the strands, and in that the ring is deformed between said zones and their extensions and in a direction perpendicular to the first mentioned to bring the interior parts closer to one another,
so that the strands are clamped between these parts and the parts outside the zones.
The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, an implementation of the method according to the invention and represents, also by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.

The apparatus shown in Figs. 1 to 6 and 11 comprises two flanges 1 and 2 hollowed out and fixed parallel to one another to a handle 3. A cable 4 cooperating with a sheath 5 mounted in the handle 3 is connected to two rods 6 and 7 mounted in so as to be able to pivot on two plates 8 and 9 which themselves pivot on the flanges 1 and 2 about an axis 10 fixed to these flanges. The plates 8 and 9 carry a pin 11 passing through a slot 12 of a lever 13 mounted on a pin 14 fixed to the flanges 1 and 2. The plates 8 and 9 have a slot 15. They also carry a pin 16. A lever 17 pivoting on the axis' 4 has at its end a slot 18 in which the axis 16 engages. It comprises a nose 19, the role of which will be specified later.
The two flanges 1 and 2 carry an axis 20 around which two levers 21 and 22 pivot, having a rounded edge at their end opposite to the axis 20.
The levers 21 and 22 are integral and are connected by a pin 23 on which pivots a rod 24. This rod passes through the base of a U-shaped lever 25 and carries at its free end a washer 25 ′ resting normally against said base, under the action of the weight of the levers 21 and 22 which pull the rod 24 downwards. The lever 25 carries between its two arms an ankle 26 which passes through the slot 15 of the plates 8 and 9 and normally rests on a rounding 27 formed in the edge of the flanges 1 and 2. A compression spring 28, arranged around the cable 4, is mounted between, on the one hand, a stop not shown and fixed to the handle 3 and, on the other hand, the rods 6, 7. This spring normally maintains the various members described in the position shown in FIG. . 1.
The flange 2 carries a reservoir 29 in which are stacked rings 30 intended to assemble the strands of string. The flange 2 also carries a tube 31 and a pin 32 in a slot of which is mounted a flat lever 33 capable of pivoting about an axis 34 fixed in the pin 32. A compression spring 35 mounted in the tube 31 acts on a end of lever 33, the other end 36 of which is housed in a slot made at the base of the tube 31. The spring 35 tends to rotate the lever 33 counterclockwise, looking at FIG. 4. The free end 36, in the normal position, closes the reservoir 29 at its lower end, keeping the rings therein in place.
The reservoir 29 carries an axis 37 on which pivots an angled lever, one arm of which (not visible in the drawing) is placed just below the nose 19 of the lever 17 and the other arm, 38, of which rests under the action of a spring not shown against the flange 2 and is at a slight distance from the lever 33.
The reservoir 29 is closed at its upper part by a removable cap 39. This stopper carries a spring, not shown, which extends in the reservoir 29 and presses on the stack of rings 30 so as to push the rings downwards against the end 36 of the lever 33 when the latter is in the normal position.
The lever 13 and the lever 17 each form, at their lower part, a jaw 41, respectively 42, these jaws being arranged to receive between them a ring 30, at a determined moment of the operation of the device that one is. describing (fig. 1) and to deform it as we will see later (fig. 11), at another time.
The cable 4 is connected, at the opposite end of that which is fixed to the rods 6 and 7, to a control member not shown, for example to a pedal, making it possible to pull the cable 4 against the action of the spring 28 for move the various parts of the device as will be seen below.
To explain the operation of the device described, we will first assume it in its normal rest position (fig. 1 to 4), the cable 4 not being stressed and the spring 28 maintaining the various members in the positions shown. . In this position, a ring 30, which left the lower part of the magazine 29 at the end of the previous cycle, as will be seen later, is held between the jaws 41 and 42 of the levers 13 and 17 as shown in FIG. 1, above the two levers 21 and 22 and at a certain distance from them.
Two strands of string to be assembled 43 and 44 (also shown in Figs. 7 to 15) are placed under a slide 40 which will be discussed later (see Fig. 2) and on the rounded edges of levers 21 and 22, so to be located under the underside of the ring 30 which entered between the jaws 41, 42 and which is arranged perpendicular to the flanges 1 and 2. These strands are placed substantially along a diameter of the ring 30.
We then begin to exert traction on the cable 4, using the control member and against the action of the spring 28. The rods 6 and 7 are then pulled to the right, looking at FIG. 1, beginning to rotate the plates 8 and 9 around their axis 10. The lever 25 is pulled upwards as a result of the engagement of its pin 26 in the slot 15 of the plates 8 and 9. This traction, by through the rod 24, rotates the levers 21 and 22 around their axis 20 (in the direction of clockwise looking at Fig. 1), so that the rounded edges of these levers come into contact with the strands 43 and 44 and pass a certain length of the strands through the hole in the ring 30 (fig. 7), these strands thus cutting the plane of the ring in two zones defined by the levers 21 and 22.
The ring 30 is held against the flanges 1 and 2 and between the jaws 41 and 42, as indicated above.
At the start of the rotation of the plates 8 and 9, the lever 13 and the lever 17 begin to rotate around their common axis 14. The lever 13 rotates in the counterclockwise direction, looking at figs. 5 and 6, the lever 17 in the opposite direction to the previous one. The jaws 41 and 42 therefore begin to press the ring 30 in a diametral direction perpendicular to the direction of the strands 43, 44 and these strands in turn are pressed under the action of the levers 21 and 22 actuated by the lever 25 .
When the traction of the cable 4 continues, the further forward rotation of the plates 8 and 9 causes a further forward rotation of the levers 13 and 17. The levers 21 and 22 deform the ring as shown in FIG. 9, the ring still being pressed against the flanges 1 and 2 and held between the jaws 41, 42. At the same time, these jaws approach each other and deform the ring in a direction perpendicular to the last deformation mentioned, so as to ovalize the ring as shown in fig. 10. At this time, the various organs occupy the positions shown in FIG. 5. The levers 21 and 22 have finished their travel, so that the deformation of the ring due to these levers is finished (fig. 9).
It can be seen that, in this position, the strands 43, 44 are placed in such a way that the outer parts of the ring 30 looking at FIG. 9 are arranged above the strands and that the central part of the ring is placed below these strands.
The traction of the cable 4, which is accentuated, still causes the plates 8 and 9 to turn. The profile of the slot 15 of these plates is such that the pin 26 of the lever 25 is pushed on a flat part of the edge of the flanges 1 and 2 (fig. 6) and does not prevent the rotation of the plates 8 and 9, so that the levers 21 and 22 remain fixed at this time. The further forward rotation of the plates 8 and 9 produces a further forward rotation of the levers 13 and 17 which then come into the position shown in FIG. 6. During this movement, the jaws 41, 42 move closer to one another, beyond the position shown in FIG. 10 and up to the position shown in FIG. 12. The extreme position of levers 13 and 17 is shown in FIGS. 1 1 and 12 which show the jaws 41, 42 fully tightened.
The strands are assembled as seen in Figs. 13 to 15, being clamped between the various parts of the ring 30 which are now respectively above and below the strands.
Before the end of the movement described, the nose 19 of the lever 17 comes to press on the arm, not shown, of the angled lever mounted on the shaft 37 to make it turn.
The arm 38 of the latter then comes to press against the lever 33 (FIG. 4) and causes the latter to rotate around its axis 34, until the end 36 of the lever 33 comes outside the magazine 29. As one As seen, this part 36 constitutes the bottom of the store in the normal position. This part being now removed, the ring 30 placed at the bottom of the magazine, and which was in contact with the end 36, falls into the slide 40 under the action of the spring (not shown) fixed to the stopper 39.
When these movements are accomplished, the traction exerted on the cable 4 is released and all the members return to their normal position under the action of the spring 28. When the lever 33 returns to the position shown in FIG. 4 under the action of its spring 31, the end 36 of this lever pushes the ring 30 which has just come out of the magazine and places it between the jaws 41, 42 and under the flanges 1, 2 and a new cycle can start again .
