Le plongeur refoule le disque découpé à travers la partie de moindre diamètre de la matrice 56 pour former le rebord et ensuite introduit le fond ainsi formé dans-l'extrémité de plus grand diamètre de la paroi latérale de réci pient B' qui se trouve dans le support 32 au poste c, cette paroi latérale faisant légère ment saillie hors de ce support;
A method of manufacturing flexible material containers, and a machine for implementing this method. The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a flexible material container, for example paper, of the type comprising a side wall and a circular bottom, and having at the other end an opening for filling. This type of container is closed by flattening the filling opening and pressing the edges facing this opening against one another.
To manufacture the known containers of this type, a frustoconical side wall of circular section is first formed, for example by winding a blank on a mandrel and bringing together the longitudinal edges of this blank, then the bottom is fixed, for example a flanged disc, in the larger diameter end of this side wall. A container is thus obtained having a circular filling or opening. When closing such a container, the forces coming from the flattening of the opening cause a deformation of the bottom and of the side wall tending to open the seal (s).
In addition, if, as is frequently the case, the container has been covered with a material impervious to moisture, these deformations may produce slits in the covering.
The manufacturing process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain a container of this type which does not have the drawbacks of the known containers mentioned.
In the manufacturing process according to the invention, a frustoconical side wall of circular section is first formed and this process is characterized by the fact that the circular end of small diameter of this side wall of the container a flattened shape so as to transform the circular opening of this end into an elongated filling opening, after which the bottom of the container is positioned and fixed, in the circular end of large diameter, in maintaining the side wall externally in its new form during this operation.
Therefore, when, after filling, the container obtained by this process is closed, the displacement which will have to be imparted to the two longitudinal edges of the elongated opening to bring them against each other, will be sufficiently small so that the efforts discussed above. are practically non-existent and their harmful effects are avoided.
The invention also comprises a machine for implementing this method. The machine shown comprises a frame comprising uprights S carrying a table T (fig. 1 and 3). The mechanisms are actuated by a control shaft 28 rotating in console bearings 29, mounted on the table T, the shaft being connected to an electric motor, not shown.
The machine comprises a device, not shown, in which the paper blanks are fed and wound around a conical mandrel 30 carried by the table T so as to form a frustoconical side wall B 'of circular section; only the outlet end of this mandrel can be seen (fig. 1 and 3). The blank is wound on this mandrel with its longitudinal marginal parts overlapping each other and they are fixed in this position by a strip S of paper glued under pressure on the parts of the blank overlapping.
The side wall B 'obtained (fig. 21 and 22) of circular section over its entire length is ejected from the mandrel by a mechanism, not shown, and introduced into one of the hollow supports 32 of a series of supports, mounted in a fixed manner at an equal distance from each other on a circular table 33. The latter is fixed on a shaft 34 rotating in a sleeve 35 passing through an opening of the table T and fixed to the latter by screws 36 passing in openings of a flange of this sleeve and screwed into the table. The shaft is held by a thrust bearing 37 housed in an annular seat at the upper end of the sleeve.
The table 33 comprises a hub 133 (Figs. 5 and 7) engaging a conical part 134 of the shaft 34, and keyed on this conical part by means of the key 135. A nut 136 is screwed onto the. shaft and abuts against the upper end of the hub 133. The table 33 is reinforced by radial ribs 176 located on its underside and starting from a sleeve-shaped part 177 which protrudes under the table, at a certain point. sleeve distance 35.
The table 33 is driven intermittently by a shaft 3.8 rotating in bearings carried by consoles 39 suspended from the table, the shaft 38 being connected by a mechanism not shown to the motor shaft 28. The shaft 38 & is connected by means of pinions 40 to a shaft 41 rotating in bearings 42 suspended from the table T and the shaft 41 transmits an intermittent movement to the shaft 34 of the table 33 by means of a drum 43 frozen on the shaft 41, this drum carrying a block 44 mounted in a peripheral cavity thereof and protruding on both sides of this drum.
This block has a sinuous groove 441, as seen in dotted lines in FIG. 1 and in which come successively engage while the drum 43 rotates, rollers 45 distributed equidistantly on a disc 46 on which they are mounted and which is fixed at the end of the shaft 34 by a fixing screw 47 screwed into the hub 48 of this disc and engaging in a recess in the shaft, the end of the disc hub abutting against the flange of the sleeve 35 (fig. 3 and 6). The rollers 45 are equal in number to that of the supports 32 on the table 3.3 and they are arranged halfway between the supports, as can be seen in the punch line in FIG. 1.
The block 44 and the groove 44 'are dimensioned such that, due to the continuous rotation of the drum 43, the table rotates intermittently due to the fact that the rollers are successively engaged with the sinuous cam groove 44' of the block 44 and are moved along this groove from one end to the opposite end of block 44.
A support 32 containing a container side wall <I> B '</I> is fed from a station <I> a </I> lying in alignment with the mandrel 30 so as to receive the side wall from. from this, to a station b where no operation is carried out on the side wall located in this support, then to a station c where it is placed in the extension of a punch and die mechanism which forms the circular bottom D 'of the container in a strip W of relatively rigid material (fig. 3, 6 and 7) and introduces it into the end of the larger diameter of the wall contained in the support 32.
The punch and die mechanism comprises a plate 49 having an opening of the same axis as the tubular part 50 of an upright 51 carried by the table? '. This plate has a cavity 52 (FIG. 16) so as to place between this plate and the end of the tubular part 50 a space allowing the band W to pass through the opening of this plate. A tubular punch 53 is connected to the head 54 of a tubular plunger 55 sliding in the tubular part 50. A die 56 comprising a two-diameter ring is fixed to the plate 49, the opening of larger diameter being turned towards this plate.
The punch 53 receives a reciprocating movement by means of a pair of arms 57 fixed to the plunger 55 at the ends of a diameter thereof by means of screws 58 passing through elongated openings of the parts of the plunger. offset ends of these arms (fig. 16), in order to allow adjustment of the plunger and the arms with respect to each other. These arms are also connected in an adjustable manner to the plunger by a collar 59 screwed onto the end of the plunger and engaged in the notches of the arms.
The opposite ends of the arms 57 are forked and overlap the hubs of the discs 60 fixed to the motor shaft 28, rollers 61 carried by the arms being engaged in cam grooves of the disc faces 62 fixed to the shaft 28. , outside the discs 60.
A disc D is cut by the punch 53 in the strip W, then it is provided with a re peripheral edge (fig. 18 and 25), by a head of a plunger 63 pushing this disc cut through the part of reduced die bore diameter 5-6. The plunger 63 slides in the tubular plunger 55 and is moved by means of the rollers 64 carried by a fork-shaped part 65 straddling the hubs of the discs 60, and engaged in the cam grooves of the discs 60, the part 65 being connected. adjustable, by means of the screw thread 66, the plunger 63.
The plunger forces the cut disc out through the smaller diameter portion of the die 56 to form the rim and then introduces the bottom so formed into the larger diameter end of the container side wall B 'which is in the bottom. the support 32 at station c, this side wall protruding slightly from this support;
the displacement of the plunger 63 has such an amplitude and the rim of the bottom D 'of a length such that the end of the side wall B' of the container protrudes beyond the rim of the bottom D ', as seen on fig. 7.
The band W is advanced by the necessary length after the withdrawal of the punch and the plunger by means of two rollers 67 mounted in a frame 68 fixed to the upright 51 on which it protrudes at the front so as to be above of the matrix. The rollers are integral with shafts carrying pinions 69 meshing with one another and are thus positively driven by means of a pawl 70 cooperating with a ratchet wheel 71 fixed to the shaft of one of these pebbles 67,
the pawl 7 (1 being carried by one end of an arm 73 which oscillates so as to transmit to the ratchet wheel an advance movement by means of the pawl, under the action of a roller carried by this arm 73 and engaged in a cam groove of a disc 7.1 fixed on the shaft 28.
In order to allow the backward movement of the plunger 63 without the bottom D 'and the pa king B' in which it is engaged coming out of the support, the mechanism comprises a device, not shown in detail, and serving to hold the bottom <I> D '</I> and the <I> B' </I> wall in place. This device is actuated by means of a ga let carried by a connecting piece 75 and engaged in a cam groove of a disc 76 fixed on the motor shaft 28. The connecting piece is connected by connecting rods 77 (Fig. 1 and 6) to the members serving to hold the bottom D 'and the wall B' in place.
Once the bottom D 'has been placed in a side wall B' of a container placed in a support at station c, table 33 rotates and successively brings the support in question from station c to stations d and e. A crimping head, at station d, folds the end of the side wall B 'over the edge of the bottom D' and a crimping head at station e clips into each other by folding them towards the bottom. 'inside, the end of the lateral pa king <I> B' </I> and the edge of the bottom <I> D '. </I> The crimping heads are fixed on shafts 78 mounted so as to be able to turn and slide in bearings carried by uprights 79.
The shafts 78 are driven by motors M mounted on the table <I> T, </I> the shafts 78 rotating with the shafts of these motors and having an axial movement with respect to them. The connection between each shaft 78 and the corresponding motor shaft is effected by means of pins 80 fixed in a collar 81 and slidingly penetrating into openings of a collar 82 fixed on the motor shaft.
Each shaft <B> 78, </B> is driven in a reciprocating movement so as to bring the crimping heads into and out of the operating position by means of gaets 83 engaged in a groove of the corresponding collar 81, these rollers being carried by projecting journals; .on the inner faces of the branches of a fork being located at the end of an arm 84 fixed to an oscillating shaft 85, 86 respectively mounted in bearings secured to the uprights 79.
The shafts 85, 86 oscillate in synchronism under the action of a lever 87 fixed to the shaft 86 and connected by a universal joint <B> 88 </B> to an arm 89 fixed to the shaft 85, the lever & 7 being actuated by means of a roller 90 (shown in dotted lines in FIG. 3) carried by a connecting rod 91 and engaged in a cam groove of a disc 92 fixed to the shaft 41. The connecting rod 91 is articulated at one end with the lever 87 and its opposite end is provided with a fork overlapping on the shaft 41. The clamping heads are actuated at the desired times during the periods of rest of the table 33.
The two crimping heads are shaped in the same way (fig. 19 and 20) and it will suffice to describe one of them. Each head comprises a block 93 mounted on the reduced diameter end of the shaft 78, this block carrying a disc 94 engaged on a projection of circular section of the front face of the block, the disc 94 being fixed to the block at the using screws 95. This disc has a peripheral groove 96 in the form of an arc in transverse section.
Four rollers 97 are mounted on the part of the largest diameter of studs 98 whose parts of smaller diameter are engaged in bores distributed at equal distances from each other on the periphery of the block 93, these studs being held in position on the block by a ring 99 surrounding the block and fixed to it by screws passing through openings of the ring and screwed into projections 100 of the block extending laterally therefrom. Fixing screws 101 are screwed into holes in the ring 99 so as to engage the ends of the roller-holder studs 98 and they are locked in position by means of locking screws 102. The rollers each have a flange wider annular engaging in notches 103 of the disc 94.
The annular rims of the rollers each having a groove, which in cross section has the shape of an arc, completing the arc of the section of the groove 96, so that in an axial plane passing through the axis of a roller, the section of the groove 96 and that of the groove of the ga let complement each other to form a semi-circle. The edge of the side wall B 'engages in the grooves of the rollers and in the groove 96 and is thus folded over the edge of the bottom at station d, and, when the other crimping head acts at station e, it folds back this flap part kills from the edge of the side wall with the edge of the bottom, on themselves towards the inside, thus constituting a crimped seal for fixing the bottom, as shown in FIG. 26.
From stations d and e, the supports advance successively to stations f and g. At station f, no operation is performed, but at station g, the finished container is ejected from the support.
In order to give the tri-conical side wall, after it has left the mandrel 30, such that its smaller diameter end is flattened so as to form an elongated filling opening before the introduction of the fastener. from the bottom and also in order to support this wall externally during these operations, the supports 32 in which the side walls are introduced have the following form:
Starting from its end of greater diameter, the cavity of the support is first of all conical sections of circular section; to this frustoconical part is connected a part of the cavity going by flattening progressively in the form of a wedge until the other end, the main plane of this wedge-shaped part being oblique with respect to the vertical plane passing through the axis of the support, so that at its other end the support has an elongated oblique opening 105, the length of which is equal to the diameter of the cavity at the other end of the support (fig. 23, 21, 25). The diameter of the circular opening of the support is slightly larger than the outside diameter of the rim of the bottom D 'carried by the plunger 63.
The length of the support cavity is such that, when the side wall B 'is fully engaged therein, the opposite ends of this wall protrude out of the cavity, the end portion protruding from the end of it. largest diameter of the support used to form the seal r for fixing the bottom D '.
In order to prevent deformation and wear of the larger diameter end during operation of the plunger 63 and the crimping heads, this end of the support is provided with a flange 106 to which an annular part 107 is attached. , made of a wear-resistant material, and comprising an annular centering rib 108 near its inner periphery, which rib engages in a corresponding groove in the end of the support (fig. 5, 7 and 25 ).
When the bottom D 'is introduced by the plunger 63 into the side wall B', the projecting part of this wall takes a cylindrical shape 109, the bottom D 'widening the wall B' a little to form a shoulder against which it rests and this ensures a tight seal between the wall <I> B '</I> and the bottom <I> D' </I> when the latter is fixed in place. Each support is rigidly mounted on the annular table 33 by means of a base part 110, ribs <B> 111 </B> manufactured with the body of the support and the base part increasing the rigidity. The base parts 110 are fixed on the table 33 by means of bolts 112.
The larger diameter ends of the brackets protrude beyond the perimeter of the table.
In order to withstand the pushing force of the plunger 63 on the supports, during engagement, of the bottoms and to prevent the loosening and breaking of the members for fixing the supports to the table, each of the supports has a lug 113 , coming from manufacture with it, directed upwards and reinforced by a rib 114.
This ear 113 comes to bear, when the support is at station c, on a flange 115 directed downwardly of a plate 116 fixed to the support. of the punch and die mechanism and having an opening 1161 for passing the strip W (fig. 6).
In order to limit the penetration of the side walls of the container into the supports and to maintain these walls while the funds are introduced and fixed at the stations <I> c, d, e, </I> a movable stop is associated to each support 32. Each of these stops comprises a block 117, of elliptical shape in cross section, corresponding to the opening 105 of the supports.
This block has utie protruding part 118, coming to be housed in the end of the side wall, the edge of which abuts against the body of the stop block, as can be clearly seen in FIG. 7. The stops hold the side walls of the container in position in the supports and also resist the torsional forces exerted on them by the crimping heads 93.
On each block is mounted a plate 119, in the form of an arc in cross section, so as to correspond to the curvature of the block in the vicinity of the end of the latter and it is fixed by one end on the body of the block. , while the opposite end 120 comes above and at a certain distance from the side face of the protruding part 118. The face of this part 120 of the plate, opposite the protruding part 118, has .staged parts 121, 122 conforming to the sealing strip S of the side wall and coming to bear on it, as well as on the longitudinal marginal parts covering this wall (fig. 11, 12, 13 and 15) .
The end of the supports 32 has a notch receiving the plate 119.
Block 117 has a base portion 123 removably attached to the means. a screw 124 on a bar 125 sliding longi tudinally in a slideway 126 formed in the lower part of the base part 110 of the corresponding support 32. In this way, the stopper is movable axially relative to its support (fig. 2 and 11 to 14). The alignment of the stops with the sliding bars 125 is ensured by pins 12-7 passing through the bars and the base parts of the corresponding blocks.
At stations a, <I> b, c, d, e, </I> f and 1a, the stops are located at a distance from the flat ends 104 of the corresponding supports 32 and at station g the stop slides to get closer to the end of the bracket. The back-and-forth movement of the stops is obtained by means of rollers 150 carried by the bars 12.5, and engaged in a groove 128 of a face of a disc 129 comprising a bell-shaped part 130 and a hub 131 disposed projecting on this bell. The disc 129 is wedged on the shaft 34 and is housed in a circular recess 132 of the table 33, so that its upper face is in the plane of the upper face of the table so as to allow the back and forth. - comes from sliding bars 125 (fig. 7).
The hub 131 is engaged on a sleeve 140 threaded onto the end 139 of the shaft 34. The end of the hub 131 comes to bear against a shoulder 13.7 of the shaft 34 and the bell 130 surrounds the hub 133 of the table 33. The disc 129 is prevented from turning with the table 33 by a shaft end 141 engaged in the hub 13.1 which is keyed to this shaft using a key 142 The opposite end of shaft 141 is wedged in a head 143 of a <B> T </B> piece 144 mounted at one end of a bar 145, the opposite end of which is fixed in a boss 146. projecting laterally on the frame 68 of the rollers 67 for feeding the strip W.
The shaft 141 and the bar 145 are fixed in the part 144 and the bar in the boss 146 by means of fixing screws 147 (fig. 7). The bar 145 also supports the forces which can be transmitted to the shaft 34 by the plunger 63 when the funds D 'are put in place. Key 142 is also keyed in a keyway in the head of the <B> T </B> piece so as to prevent the shaft end from rotating.
When the rollers 150 which are carried by the journals 151 fixed to the bars 12-5 are located in the circular part, centered on the axis of the table, of the groove 128, the corresponding stops do not move relative to the supports . When a support passes from station <I> f </I> to station <I> g, </I> the roller of the corresponding stopper engages in the eccentric part 149 of the groove 128 and this stopper is moves closer to the support and its projecting part 118 engages in the cavity of the support. When the table 33 comes to rest, the roller of the support stopper located at station g is in its position furthest from the axis of the table.
As the protrusion 118 enters the holder, the side wall of the completed container is pushed back and detaches from the holder.
To reduce the contact area between the support and the side wall, grooves 153 are cut into the wall of the support cavity along the length of the support. One of these grooves, 154, begins at the upper end of the vertical diameter of the circular opening in the holder and ends at the upper end of one side of the elongated opening 105 and is intended for. receive the lateral sealing strip S.
In order to eject the containers from the supports at station g, the machine is provided with mechanically actuated jets each comprising two telescoping tubular elements 155, 156, the element 156 being fixed by one end in the block 117 of the stopper. corresponding, and hence extending axially into the holder and the element 155 being slidably mounted on the outer end of the element <B> 156. </B> The element 155 carries a head 158 fixed by means of a pin <B> 16,
1 </B> to a rod 160 disposed inside the elements 155 and 156 and passing through a sleeve 156 'in yarn in the end of the element 156 which is introduced into the block 117. A coil spring 159 pushes element 155 and head <B> 158 </B> outward. The end of the rod 160 opposite the head extends to the rear of the block 117 and is fixed in a block <B> 162 </B> using a pin 163, the block 162 sliding in a slideway 164 carried by an arm 165 integral with the block 117 (Fig. 8, 9, 11, 12 and 14).
Each of the sliding blocks 162 carries a roller <B> 166 </B> mounted on it by means of a journal 167. These rollers bear against a vertical wall <B> 168 </B> of an annular part 169 mounted on the bell <B> 130 </B> and pressing on a shoulder 170 of the latter. Part 169 is attached to the bell by bolts 171 (fig. 10). The wall <B> 168 </B> is interrupted at a point 172 of the path of the supports which is just before the supports come into place at the station g and it resumes at a certain radial distance from this point 172 by a part eccentric 173.
Just before a support stops at station g, the corresponding roller 166 passes point 172 of the wall 168, which releases the rod from the ejector. The head of the ejector, under the action of the spring 159, then moves towards the outside of the support, so that the enlarged part <B> 157 </B> of the head 1.58 abuts against the bottom of the container. and it is ejected from the medium. The movement of the head is limited by the roller <B> 166 </B> which comes up against. limit switch against part 173 of wall 168.
A spring 174 attached to the disc 129 and passing through a slot 175 in the part 169 dampens the impact of the rollers 166 against the wall portion 173 (Figs. 4, 5, 7 and 10). The rollers 166 and with them the ejector heads are brought back by the wall part 173 when the table 33 advances.
The side wall B 'of the container, before being introduced into the support 32', is of circular section over its entire length (Figs. 21 and 22). When this wall is introduced into the support, with the end or green of smaller diameter in front, it takes the form shown in FIGS. 26 and 27 with its end of smaller dia, - meter flattened.
