Device for non-manual control of at least one toilet seat The present invention relates to a device for the non-manual control of at least one toilet seat, for example single or double toilet seats such as those of toilet bowls, comprising seat and cover, and for which modern hygiene requires, as far as possible, control by mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or equivalent devices interposed, excluding any manual contact.
The device which is the subject of the present invention is characterized in that it comprises a main connecting rod controlled from a control member, so that its upper end performs, at the will of the user, a series back and forth according to a determined arc of a circle causing the flap to rotate in one direction or the other, without contact with the user's hands.
In the drawing opposite, there is shown, by way of example, various embodiments of the device according to the invention with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical control variants.
Fig. 1 is an axial view of a mechanism comprising a cam for controlling two flaps, the two flaps being lowered.
Fig. 2 is a similar view, the two flaps being raised.
Fig. 3 is a similar view, only one of the flaps being raised.
Fig. 4 is a similar view, the flap raised being in the process of being folded back on the one which is lowered. Fig. 5 is a diagram of a variant with mechanical control by pedal. Fig. 6 is a diagram of a variant with hydraulic control.
Fig. 7 is a diagram of an electrically controlled variant.
Figs. 8, 9 and 10 are diagrams of a construction variant comprising a double ramp cam.
Fig. 11 shows an arrangement for controlling the seat of a sanitary appliance, without a cover, with a pedal working directly on the thrust.
Fig. 12 shows a similar arrangement, to a pedal working in thrust on an intermediate spring cam.
Fig. 13 shows an arrangement with two double pedals working at the push, one for the seat, the other for the cover.
Fig. 14 shows a connecting rod arrangement acting by direct traction on a flange, without dead point.
Fig. 15 shows a variant with a connecting rod acting by traction on a spring cam and notches ensuring a raised position of the flap when the pedal is abandoned, and folding it on a second operation of the latter.
In fig. 1 to 10, a connecting rod 18 constitutes the main transmission element of a control (pedal 37 or button 52 or 74) to a device comprising a cam rotating about an axis 3.
In all the cases shown in said FIGS. 1 to 10, the device has only one control member (pedal or button) to determine the different movements of the flaps (seat 1, cover 2). In the examples described, it is accepted that a first action on the pedal or the control button determines the concomitant lifting of the two parts 1 and 2; - the second identical action determines the folding of seat 1 alone; - the third action determines the folding of the cover 2 on the seat 1 already folded down; the maneuver cycle. is finished, parts 1 and 2 then return to their initial folded down position.
Referring first to the fia. 1 (initial position), we therefore see the seat or bezel and the cover 2 folded; they are both centered on the same axis of rotation 3, normally placed above and behind the bowl (not shown).
The seat 1 and the cover 2 are attached to the axis 3 by any means known per se, for example by molding bosses and pierced with holes not shown in the figures, and by a flat part 4 fixed to the side right of the seat 1 by screws 5, while the cover 2 is articulated on the axis 3 by means of a plate 6 which can be molded with the cover itself. The part 4 pivots around the axis 3 in front of the plate 6 (for the observer considering the drawing). It is indented along a profile having two rounded indentations 7 and 8, the latter being closer than the other to the axis 3.
The plate 6 carries, for its part, a groove 9 profiled like the notch of the part 4, but having two notch bases 10 and 11 - the latter closer than the other to the axis 3 - and a circular arc clearance 12. In the initial position (indicated by I in FIG. 1), the notch bases 7 and 10 are practically aligned with one another.
Furthermore, a cylindrical finger 13, fixed to the upper end of a link 14, is called upon to move along the notch profile of the part 4 and, by its axial extension (perpendicular to the plane of the drawing), in the throat 9.
The rod 14, at its lower end, is articulated at 15 on one end of a crank pin 16, the other end of which can pivot about a fixed axis 17, so that the articulation 15 can describe an arc. of circle 15-15 '. (indicated in phantom in the figures) when a thrust is applied to it from bottom to top by the main connecting rod 18, which transmits the actions of the control members to the cam device. The articulation 15 is the common place of application of the driving force of one of the three control variants which will be described later with reference to FIGS. 5, 6 and 7.
The rod 14 is biased to the right or to the left by the articulated parallelogram 15 17-19-20, the branch 19-17 of which is extended, making a certain angle up to an attachment point 21 d ' one of the ends of a traction spring 22, the other end of which is hooked to a lug 23 fixed to a boss 24 presented by the periphery of the plate 6.
If we consider figs. 1, 2 and 3, it can be seen that this lug, depending on the position of the cover 2, will be on the right (fig. 1) or on the left (fig. 2 and 3) of the fixed axis 17, and that the spring 22 will therefore attract the end 21 of the angled arm 21-17-19 to the right (fig. 1) or to the left (fig. 2 and 3); consequently, the rod 14 will be stressed, either towards the left (fig. 1) or towards the right (fig. 2 and 3) by the articulated parallelogram 15-20-19-17, whatever the position of the articu lation 15 on the arc of a circle 15-15 '.
It will therefore be understood that, if an upward thrust is exerted on this articulation 15 by the connecting rod 18, this thrust will be transmitted by the connecting rod 14 to the finger 13 which, tending to move first to the left until it stops. on the appendix 25 of part 4, will engage in the notch bases 7 and 10 and will rotate clockwise the assembly consisting of part 4, the seat 1, the plate 6 and the cover 2 (the latter pushed in addition by the seat 1 itself). The seat and cover will therefore rise until they take their position as shown in fig. 2 (raised position).
The length of the arc of a circle 15-15 ', and the dimensions of the parts, are such that the aforementioned assembly describes an angle of a little more than 90 (in practice 95o), so that the vertical passing through the center of gravity of said assembly is then to the right of axis 3, which ensures a good balance to the flaps raised against a stop (not shown) placed in a suitable place.
In this raised position, as shown in FIG. 2, the moving parts are indicated in dashed lines (II) in their position at the end of the upward stroke on the arc 15-15 '. The lug 23 is then placed so that the traction of the spring 22 is exerted on the attachment point 21 to the left of the fixed axis 17; consequently, the link 14 will be biased towards the right.
If, at this moment, the connecting rod 18 goes down (as will be explained later), to its position indicated in solid lines in FIG. 2 (III), the finger 13, sliding along the notch of the part 4 and in the groove 9 of the plate 6, will finally come up against a convex rounding 26 that the same part 4 has, ready to engage in the bottom of notch 8 from a new upward thrust of the connecting rod 18. This rounding 26 prevents the finger 13 from going to engage in the bottom of notch 1 1 of the plate 6.
A second upward thrust of the connecting rod 18 causes the part 4 to rotate counterclockwise, and the seat 1 to be folded down onto the bowl, the cover 2 remaining raised. This is what fig. 3, where the high position (IV) of the connecting rod 18 is seen in dashed lines; the finger 13, moving in the clearance 12 of the plate 6, does not push at the bottom of the notch 8 because of the inclination of the link 14; seat 1 falls back onto the bowl by the simple effect of gravity.
The rod 14 is always urged to the right, because the lug 23 has not moved; but, when the connecting rod 18 descends again to gain its position indicated in solid lines in FIG. 3 (V), the finger 13 finally comes to the entrance of the notch bottom 11 of the plate 6. The seat is still folded down, the cover still up.
During the third upward thrust of the connecting rod 18, the finger 13 engages frankly in the bottom of notch 11, and turns the plate 6 in the anti-clockwise direction, until reaching the intermediate position shown in fig. 4 (VI). At this moment, the cover 2 is driven by its own weight and folds itself back onto the seat 1. The parts have returned to the initial positions according to FIG. 1. The maneuver cycle is completed.
One obtained successively a) the lifting of the seat and cover by the first upward thrust of the connecting rod 18; b) folding the seat only by the second push; c) the folding of the cover by the third push.
This does not prevent, if necessary, to operate the seat or the cover by hand, whatever their position, without any risk of distorting the mechanism or of breaking the molded plastic parts, as can be. the seat and the neck themselves.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show the three envisaged variants of controlling the upward movement of the main connecting rod 18.
In fig. 5, we see the direct mechanical control by pedal: at its lower part, the connecting rod 18 has an adjustable part made of a tip 27 blocked on the connecting rod itself by two screws 28 tightened on oblong holes 29 drilled in the connecting rod; this makes it possible to compensate for the differences in height which could exist between different types of cuvettes.
The lower end of this end piece is articulated at 30 in a yoke 31 ending a flail 32 oscillating around a fixed axis 33 supported by a cradle 34 fixed to the ground 35 by bolts 36. The other end of the flail 32 carries the pedal 37 on which the user presses with his foot to make the curved stroke 15-15 'run at the upper end of the connecting rod 18. An opposing spring 38 returns the beam to its initial position as soon as the foot is removed from the pedal; the connecting rod descends and returns to its lowered position indicated in solid lines in fig. 5.
In fig. 6, we see a hydraulic control mode: the connecting rod 18 '(homologous to the connecting rod 18) has its lower end articulated by a pin 39 on a piston 40 sliding in a fixed cylinder 41. A crimped leather 42, fixed on the piston by a washer 43 and a nut 44 screwed on a thread 45 extending the piston, seals the cylindrical piston. The return to the low point of the piston and the connecting rod 18 is ensured by a coil spring 46 which bears between the piston and a cap 47 screwed to the upper part of the cylinder 41. The latter is sealed to the ground 35 by a collar. 48 and sealing screws 49.
Pressurized water is sent into the cylinder 41, or evacuated, through a pipe 50 and a distributor 51; the latter comprises a double valve controlled by the foot to connect the cylinder 41, either to the distribution of pressurized water (when the button 52 is pressed with the foot), or to the emptying (when this pressure ceases). The control button 52 controls the mobile assembly 53 com carrying two rubber washers forming a valve, one 54 at its lower part, the other 55 at its upper part. These washers support, in turn, on their respective seats 56 and 57. A spring 58, housed in the moving assembly, normally pushes the washer-valve 54 against its seat 56, while the washer-valve 55 is held apart. from its seat 57.
A bottom 59, screwed into the body of the dispenser 51 and tightening a seal 60, has at its center a cylindrical part 61 guided in the movable assembly 53 and supporting the spring 58. A collar 62, traversed by sealing screws 63, fixes everything on the ground.
At rest, the cylinder 41 communicates with the drain 64 through the valve 55, normally separated from its seat 57. The spring 58, aided by the pressure of the water, keeps the valve 54 closed on its seat 56. When one press (with your foot) on the button 52, the spring 58 is compressed and the pet valve 55 comes to rest against its seat 57 while the valve 54 leaves its seat 56. The cylinder 41 then communicates with the water pipe under pressure 65, and no longer with the drain 64.
The pressurized water arrives in the cylinder 41 and lifts the piston 40, which pushes the connecting rod 18 'upwards, the upper end of which traverses the arc of a circle 15-1.5'. The spring 46 is compressed between the piston 40 and the cap 47.
When the pressure of the user's foot on the button 52 ceases, the spring 58 returns to their initial position the parts of the movable assembly whose valve 54 closes, while the valve 55 opens again. L 'pressurized water ceases to intervene in the cylinder 41, and the force of the spring 46 forces the piston 40 to expel from the cylinder the water which is withdrawn through the drain 64. The piston 40 goes down bringing back with it the connecting rod 18 'whose upper end returns from 15' to 15. This intervention is repeated for each operation of the connecting rod.
Fig. 7 shows an electric control diagram. In this case, the lower end of the 18 "connecting rod is articulated on a crank pin 66 eccentrically riveted to the face of a toothed wheel 67; the eccentric circle 68 that this ma - neton has a radius such that the other end of the connecting rod 18 "traverses the arc of a circle 15-15 'back and forth during one revolution of the wheel 67. On the teeth of the latter, a reduction engages (70, 69) disposed near an electric motor 72, on the shaft of which is wedged a pinion 71.
The motor is connected to the network by two switches, the first of which is of the push-button type 73, fixed for example to the ground and controlled at the foot by an insulating button 74 establishing contact when it is pressed. It is used for starting. The second switch relays the first; it is controlled by the toothed wheel 67, and consists of a latch 75 held, on the one hand, at a fixed point 76, and ensuring, by its other end, which is movable, contact with a tongue 77.
An insulating shoe 78, integral with the pin 75 and interposed between the latter and the crankpin 66, temporarily separates the latch from the tongue 77 when the crankpin is opposite the shoe (low position of the connecting rod 18), thus breaking the electric contact.
A recess 79 of the shoe 78 ensures the fixity of the connecting rod in this position. When the button 74 is pressed, the motor starts and drives the wheel 67 according to the arrow 80; after a certain stroke, the crankpin 66 is released from the shoe 78; the latch 75 is no longer forced to move away from the latch 77, and there establishes the electrical contact between the motor and the network, in parallel with the switch 73.
From this moment, you can remove your foot from button 74: the current is not cut, however, and the motor continues to turn until the toothed wheel 67 has completed a full revolution, which brings back the crankpin 66 in pressing the sa bot 78, thus cutting off the contact between the latch 75 and the tongue 77. The motor 72 stops. The friction of the crankpin 66 on the shoe 78 slows down the movement, and the recess 79 of the shoe positions the crankpin at the lowest point.
During the complete revolution of the wheel 67, the crankpin 66 first pushed the connecting rod 18 "upwards, then brought it down again, causing its upper end to travel the arc of a circle 15-15 ', and return 15'-15, regardless of how long the user's foot is pressed on button 74, which may be very short.
It can be seen that, with one of these three control devices, by a simple pressure of the foot - on pedal 37, button 52 or button 74 depending on the variant chosen - will be caused to go back and forth from the foot. 'upper end of the connecting rod 18, 18' or 18 "on the arcuate path 15-15 '. Each time, attacking the cam device, one will obtain, successively and in order, one of the three movements of the flap maneuver cycle, without touching any part with the hands.
Figs. 8, 9 and 10 show a variant of execution in which the main connecting rod 18 always acts according to the same principle and is always controlled in the same way.
The connecting rod 18 is articulated at 15 on one end of an intermediate arm 100, which on the other hand pivots on the axis 103 of a cam 101. On the other hand, the arm 100 door, articulated towards its middle at 102, a pawl 104 resiliently retained by a spring 105 which constantly urges it towards the axis 103, so that it engages in one or the another of the teeth 106, 106 'or 106 "of a first slice 107 of the cam 101. The cam also comprises two other slices 108 and 109 each having a nose ramp respectively controlling rollers 110 and 119, located in their respective plane of rotation.
The roller 110 and a roller 111 are mounted idle at both ends of a lever 112 forming a rocker arm and capable of oscillating about a fixed pivot 113. This rocker arm also has an extension 114 articulated at 115 on an arm 116, the other end of which is articulated at 117 to seat 1.
On the fixed axis 113 is mounted, on the other hand, an arm 118 forming the control lever of the cover 2. This arm carries the roller 119 located in the plane of rotation of the section 109 of the cam 101 and it has an extension at the end of which is articulated at 120 an arm 121, itself articulated at 122 to the cover 2.
Operation In fig. 8, the parts are at rest, seat and cover folded down. When the connecting rod 18 rises until its head passes from 15 to 15 ', as before, it rotates the cam around the axis 103 by its pawl 104; the eccentric ramp 108 therefore pushes back the roller 110, causing the lever 112 to tilt in the direction of dice clockwise; this results in the raising of the seat and, consequently, of the cover; the parts take their position according to fig. 9.
The connecting rod 18 descends alone, since it is not integral with the cam; but, on her next ascent, she clicks the cam; the latter, by turning again, causes its ramp 108 to push back the roller 111, which is located in its plane of rotation and lowered by the raising of the seat (tilting of the lever 112). The lever 112 rocks, this time, in the opposite direction; it can do so, since the roller 110 no longer encounters an eccentric ramp. The seat 1 is therefore folded down without the cover 2 being (fig. 10). The ramp 109 rotates without touching the roller 110, which is not in its plane of rotation. The connecting rod 18 can come down again on its own.
On its third ascent, the rotation of the cam causes the ramp 109 to push back the roller 119, thus causing the cover 2 to be folded down. The parts are found in the initial position.
We can obviously provide the flaps with counterweight or compensating springs helping to reduce the effort required for lifting, and provide a certain damping, friction for example, to avoid any too sudden impact of the seat or the cover when they are closed.
Referring now to fig. 11, the bowl A of the sanitary appliance is seen, on which the seat 1a is shown in solid lines, pivoting about the horizontal axis 3 integral with the bowl. The seat is secured, moreover, to a flange 4a which pivots with it, and on which is articulated in 5a one of the ends of a connecting rod 6a whose other end is articulated in 7a on the arm 8a of a lever pivoting about a fixed horizontal axis 9a and the other arm 18a of which ends in a pedal 10a. All these parts are indicated in solid lines in their position corresponding to the folded (horizontal) position of the seat la.
By pressing the pedal 10a, it is lowered according to the arrow Y to the position 10'a, the arms of the pivoting lever at 9a then taking the positions 18'a and 8'a indicated in phantom. It follows that the articulation 7a passes in 7'a, which results in lifting the connecting rod 6a approximately vertically (arrow Z) to carry it in the position 6'a. The elevation of the articulation 5a which is now located but in 5'a, therefore makes the flange 4a pivot around axis 3 (which goes to 4'a) and the seat la which rises according to the arrow W to position a or even to an almost vertical position.
Releasing pedal 10a (10'a) allows gravity to immediately return all parts to their original position.
Fig. 12 shows a similar device, differentiated from the first in that the first operation of the pedal 10a raises the seat 1a and that the pedal can be abandoned without this seat falling; to put it back in the folded position (solid lines), you will again act on the same pedal.
This device comprises a cam 4b integral with the seat 1a, and capable of pivoting about the same horizontal axis 3. This cam has two rounded notches 14a and 14b; in the drawing, it is represented in solid lines for the folded down position of the seat (I), and its notch 14a receives the upper end of a connecting rod 16a; this end carries, at 5a, a lug to which is hooked one end of a spring 12a working in traction and the other end of which is hooked to a lug 13a located at the periphery of the cam, and towards its middle. The res out 12a is located along the side of the cam.
A similar spring 11a constantly tends to draw down the arm 8a of the lever centered at 9a and the other arm 18a of which carries the pedal 10a.
On the first pressing action on this pedal (arrow Y), lever 8a / 18a. tilts counterclockwise and, through the play of the articulation 7a, the connecting rod 16a rises to its position II, at 16'a, causing the cam 4b to pivot clockwise watch (arrow I / II) until occupying the position indicated in phantom in 4'b.
At the same time, the seat is raised to its vertical position a (II-III). If we abandon the pedal 10a (then at 10'a), the spring lla tilts the lower lever, which returns its end 7a to its initial position, which makes the er got 5a slide from its position 5 'a in position 5 "a, under the action of spring 12a / 12'a, which finally forces the lug to come to be housed at 5" a, in notch 14b moved from cam 4b / 4 'b (III). The cam does not move, nor does the seat which is still in the position.
It is only if one acts again on the pedal according to the arrow Y, that the connecting rod, then in 16 "a, will push back in the opposite direction (arrow III / IV) the pivoting cam in 3, and will bring it back in its initial position, the seat folds down onto the bowl, all the parts have returned to their position shown in solid lines.
A second pedal, identically arranged, could control, in the same way, a cover (not shown) such as that which exists in FIG. 13. However, for this dual control, the device according to the latter figure was preferred.
In this variant, there are four pedals, arranged at the rate of two per lever rocking around the common horizontal axis 9a. The lever 8b / 18b, which carries the lob pedal as before, is completed by a third arm 28b carrying, at its end, a pedal 20b; this arm is placed in the same general plane as the other two, but it is directed almost perpendicular to them (in practice, it will be slightly inclined on this per pendicular). The lever 8c / 18c / 28c is identical, and carries the pedals 10c and 20c under the same conditions.
The lever 8b / 18b / 28b is articulated, in 7b, as above, at the lower end of the vertical connecting rod 16b, the upper end of which is articulated in 5b on an ear of the flange 4c, pivoting about the horizontal axis 3 and integral with the seat 1a. The lever 8c / 18c / 28c is articulated at 7c at the lower end of a second connecting rod 17b, the upper end of which is articulated at 5c on the lug of a flange 4d pivoting around the same axis 3 and integral with the cover 2a.
In fig. 13, the parts are shown in solid lines, seat folded down but the cover raised. The positions in phantom lines are the folded position of the cover, raised of the seat, but it is obvious that they are simultaneously incompatible, unlike the reverse.
If one wishes to raise the seat, one will lower, as before, the pedal lob to raise the articu lation 7b, the connecting rod 16b and the articulation 5b which gains the position 5'b; the flange 4c takes the position 4'c and the seat is raised in a, as before. An action pushing the pedal 20b in the opposite direction will cause the reverse movements of the moving parts, and the folding of the seat. Likewise, by pushing the pedal 20c towards the right of the figure, the articulation 7b, the connecting rod 17b and the articulation 5c which will go to 5'c; </ I> the tilted cover will open with its 4d flange and will fall back on the seat.
One could also place just as easily one of the two levers on each side of the bowl A. Referring now to fig. 14, we see the pedal 10d mounted on the end of the lever 8d pivoting on the fixed horizontal axis 9a. Towards its middle, the lever arm 8d carries, articulated in 7d, the lower end of the connecting rod 6d, the upper end of which is articulated in 5d on the flange 4d integral with the seat 1d and capable of pivoting with it around the horizontal fixed axis 3.
By pressing the IOd pedal (arrow Y), the lever 8d is lowered to 8'd. The 7d joint comes in 7'd; the connecting rod 6d in 6'd, the 5d joint in 5'd, the flange 4d </ I > in 4'd and the seat I d in I'd (arrow W). The seat is not raised to the vertical, so that, when the pedal is released, its weight causes it to fall back into its folded position, the moving parts each returning to the initial position in solid lines.
In fig. 15, where the corresponding parts bear the same reference letters and numbers, a res sort 1 I d, working under pressure, constantly tends to raise the lever 8d. The upper end of the connecting rod 6d carries a lug 5d to which is hooked one end of the coil spring 12d working in traction and the other end of which is hooked to the lug 13d of the cam 4e.
This has, upwards, two rounded notches on either side of its axis of rotation 3. In the position of the folded seat (I), the lug 5d is housed in one of these notches where the maintains the spring 12d. If we lower the pedal 10d (arrow Y) and, with it, the lever 8d and the connecting rod 6d, by increasing the resistance of the spring 11d, we tilt the cam clockwise (arrow W); it comes from its position in dashed line 4'e, raising with it the seat which is placed vertically in 1'd (II and III).
If you let go of the pedal, the spring 11d raises the lever 8d and the connecting rod, which goes from the 6'd (II) position to the 6 "d (III) position because the 12d spring will have slid the 'connecting rod end lug from position 5'd to position 5 "d. This is the neutral position, seat raised.
To fold it down, the pedal l Od is lowered again and, by the play of the articulated moving parts, the lug moves from position 5 "d to position 5'd, bringing back the cam and, with it, the seat, on its initial position (IV), after which, on the last release of the pedal, the spring 11d raises the lever 8d and returns the connecting rod upwards, the spring of which 12d finally returns the lug 5d to its initial position, in its starting notch.
