Botteleuse automatique.

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Automatic baler.
This invention relates to an automatic baler intended to form and bind the bales of cereals and various plants of the kind in which a single clutch is arranged on a motor shaft set in motion by the movement of the machine on the ground.
Its purpose is to enable this clutch to be put into operation and therefore the machine to be put into action by the simple encounter of the latter with the pile located on the ground.
With a view to achieving this aim, the machine, object of the invention is characterized by the arrangement on a vertical shaft of a triggering pallet placed near the ground, and which provokes by means of organs @

appropriate the operation of the single clutch when this pallet encounters a pile deposited on the ground. In practice, a second vane which at the same time forms the needle is fixed on a vertical shaft which is parallel to the shaft carrying the trigger vane and which can oscillate around a third. vertical shaft controlled by a crank actuated by the motor shaft.
On the motor shaft, on which is mounted as usual a plate carrying a clutch lever on which can slide a lock or spring rod, is wedged a ratchet with which can engage the spring rod during the meeting the pallet with a pile so as to produce through the clutch lever the rotation of the cam plate and the movement of the crank controlling the needle pallet.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the machine.
Figure 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3 is a side view.
FIGS. 4 and 5 are detail views in section and in elevation of the control ambrayge.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the machine object of the invention comprises a frame 1, composed of two uprights 2 and 3 and a cross member 4 fig.l).
In the example shown, the upright 2 carries two horizontal sockets 5 made of cast iron with the frame, intended to receive the axis 6 of the wheel 7, and fixed by four bolts to the upright (1) so as to vary the height of the machine according to the height of the tasks These sockets are located one above the other, so as to be able to vary the. height of the machine according to the importance

and the size of the tans. Two housings 8 are also provided in the upright 3 for receiving an arm 82 fig.3) carrying a roller 9 which can also occupy an adjustable position according to the height of the piles.
The baler mechanism is controlled by means of the rotational movement imparted to the wheel 7 and to its axis 6 by the movement of the machine on the ground. For this purpose on the axis 6 is wedged a chain wheel 10 on which passes a chain 11 passing on the other hand, on a second chain wheel 12. This wheel 12 is wedged on a shaft 13 which carries a cone pinion 14 meshing with a second pinion-cone 15 which is wedged on a vertical shaft 16 crossing over its entire height the upright 2 (fig, 1 and 4).
This shaft 16 carries at its upper part a ratchet wheel 17 integral with the shaft and a cam plate 18 able to rotate freely on the shaft. It is surrounded moreover, freely, above the ratchet wheel 8, by a clutch lever 19 which is connected to the plate 18 by a bolt 20 which receives a fixing nut 21. With the lever 19 forms a body. part 22 to which is fixed a crank button 23 to which is connected a rod or crank 32. The lever 19 carries a spring rod 24 which can be de.placer in guides 25 in front of the lever 19. This rod 24 tends under the action of its spring 26 to engage with the teeth of the wheel the 'ratchet.
However, it is normally prevented from assuming this position as a result of the action of a lever 27 abutting against a stopper or release rod 46 and of a rod 28. The lever 27 is provided at its end with 'a fork 29 surrounding the end of the lever 19, rotates around an axis 30 and acts by an arm 31 on the connecting rod 28 and the rod 24.
The end of the rod 32 opposite the button 23 is fixed by means of a job 34 to a gear 33 (fig. 1 and 2)
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
which is mounted freely on a shaft 35 which passes through the upright 3 of the frame in its entire height. This shaft 35 also carries at its upper part a lever 36 and at its lower part a similar lever 37. The two levers 36 and 37 are wedged on the shaft 35, and support two shafts 38 and '39. The shaft 39 carries at its upper part a toothed secleur 40 meshing with the toothed wheel 33 and at its lower part a needle 41, the role of which will be explained below.
The shaft 38 carries at its lower part a release pallet 42, and at an appropriate height a lever 43 which is connected by a chain 44 to a lever 45 (FIG. 4) which operates the stop 46. This lever 45 can oscillate around an axis 47 (fig. 4) which carries a beak 48 acting on a stirrup 49 integral with the rod 46 surrounded upwards by a cap 50: To the latter is fixed a spring 51 which is connected by its another end to a guide 52 forming part of the frame. This clutch release stop can also be controlled by means of the foot by a pedal 53, a chain 54 and a lever 55 acting on the axis 47 (FIG. 4).
The upright 3 of the frame of the machine is provided with two supports 56 for a shaft 57 (fig. 3) which carries at its lower end a retaining pallet 58 and at its upper end a lever 59. the lever 59 is connected. a rod 60 (fig. 2) provided with a tensioner 61 with a lever 62 provided 3'un roller 63 which bears on the wedge plate 18 (fig. 5). The upright 3 of the frame carries at its upper part, made of cast iron with it, a support 61 intended to receive the axis 65 of a toothed segment 66. This segment carries an arm 67 connected by means of a rod 68 to an extension - gear 69 of lever 36.
The shaft 16 carries (fig. 1) at its lower end a partially toothed bevel pinion 70, which actuates a knotter 71 and which carries a release rod 72 The pallets @
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
release and retention are provided with a plate 73 supported by rods 74 and subjected to the action of springs 75.
The madine is also provided with a seat 76 for the driver; of stretchers 77 for the. animal traction and a rope box 78.
Two plates 79 and 80 are provided for the suitable guiding of the herbs or plants to be assembled into hoods.
The nut 81 located at the top of the shaft 16 allows height adjustment of the latter and of the members which are integral with it.
The end of the arm 82 is connected by means of a rod 83 (fig.3) to the lower end of the shaft 39,: the needle 41.
The machine thus constructed operates as follows:
If it is assumed that the baler is moved on a cultivated ground, the rotational movement of wheel 7 is transmitted to the ratchet wheel 17 via the axis 6, the wheel 10, the chain 11 , the wheel 12, the shaft 13 of the bevel gears 14 and 15 and the shaft 16.
The shaft 16 is thus set in rotation without causing the movement of the mechanism itself: the baler.
When the pallet 42 (fig. 2) meets a pile 84 of mown grass, the entry into contact of this pallet 42 with the pile 84 and the advancement of the machine have the effect of moving this pallet in the direction of the movement. arrow A (fig. 2) and to rotate the shaft 38. This rotation causes traction on the chain 44 (fig.1) which moves the lever 45 (fig. 1 and 4) which rotates the axis 47 .
This acts through the spout 48 on the lower part of the caliper 49 which causes the rod 46 to descend downwards at the same time as the cap 50 while the spring 51 is compressed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The lowering of the chip 50 releases the lever 27 which, no longer being retained, pivots by driving the axis 29 which determines by means of the crank 28 and under the action of the spring 26 the displacement of the rod 24 which thus engages with the ratchet wheel 17 thus making the plate 18 and the crank 19 integral -, the, the shaft 16 ,,
The clutch lever 3 '19 then transmits its movement to the gear 33 via the crank 32 (wire: ;;. 2).
The crank knobs 23 and 34 being arranged in relation to their center of rotation, so that a complete revolution of the crank 23 produces an alternating oscillation of an amplitude of about a third of a turn of the turn. 'gear 33, the first half-turn of plate 18 in the direction of arrow B (fig. 2) has the effect of turning gear 33 in the direction of arrow C (- fig. 2) . This determines the reverse rotation of the toothed ring 66 and the displacement of the arm 67 which, through the intermediary of the rod 68, drives the extension 69 of the lever 36.
The lever 37 also being driven in this movement, the axis 39 which is thus moved in the direction of the arrow D (fig. 2) following the movement of the levers 36 and 37 also receives a rotational movement on itself. even in the direction of the arrow E via the segment 40 and the gear 33. Consequently, the needle 41 which participates in the movement of the shaft 39 also moves in a movement. combined rotation around axis 39 and rotation around axis 35, which has the effect of compressing the. boot 84 which is now engaged between the guide plates 79 and 80 and is retained at the rear by the pallet 58.
At this point, the pallet 42 is erased and the boot is held by the retaining pallet 58.
On the other hand, one end of the core 85 (fig. 2)
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
coming from the reserve box 78 is retained by the knotter 71, then passes through the end of the needle 2, follows this to the shaft 39, then follows the cross member 4 and arrives at the box 78 , after having passed under the cam plate 18; furthermore, the dulèier displacement 37 during the rotation of the shaft 39 produces during the formation of the boot a traction on the rod 83 which thus moves the roller 9 in the direction of the arrow 7 wire ,. 3) which has the effect of lifting the machine and consequently the boot which, at this moment is held as already said between the needle 41 and the pallet 58.
The boot is thus withdrawn from contact with the ground, so as to facilitate its formation.
At this moment, the needle 41 has entered the knotter mechanism 71 and the toothed part of the bevel pinion (fig.1) comes into contact with the pinion of the knotter mechanism 71; the knotting and cutting of the rope takes place while the cam plate continues to rotate and begins the second half of its rotation.
When the roller 63 of the lever 62 enters the hollow 88 of the plate 18 and comes into contact with the part 89 of the wall of the hollow, the rod 60 moves in the direction of the arrow K (fig. 1) and rotates. the shaft 57 so that the pallet 58 is driven in this movement. The boot which until then was held between this pallet and the needle 41 is released and falls to the ground; it is assisted in this movement by the arm 72 rotating with the shaft 16 and exerting a push on it. When the roller comes into contact with the part 90 of the hollow, the shaft 57 executes a rotation in the opposite direction and the pallet 58 returns to its original position with a view to receiving another box.
At this same moment, the trigger paddle 42 which remained erased during the whole formation of the boot returns to its original position under the action of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
spring 51 which exerts a traction on the rod 46 while the lever 45, the chain 44 and the shaft 38 perform movements in the opposite direction.
On the other hand, during the second half of the rotation of the plate 18, the crank 32 has driven the wheel 38 in the opposite direction to the arrow C which produced the rotation of the shaft 39 in the opposite direction. the arrow E, as well as the movement of the needle 41 in the opposite direction to that of the arrow D via the toothed sector 66 of the lever 67 of the rod 68 and of the lever 69-36.
When the boot has been formed it is pushed laterally by the extension 87 of the pallet 58 on the return thereof to the retaining position so that the path is made free for the subsequent passage of the machine.
